Russia's currency is tumbling after Western nations on Saturday agreed to put crippling sanctions on the country's financial sector in retaliation for its invasion of Ukraine. One Russian ruble which was N5.55 before the war and sanctions drop drastically to N3.90. The ruble also fell about 30% against the dollar today Monday making it worthless more than 1 U.S. cent after the U.S., European Union and the United Kingdom announced moves to block some Russian banks from the SWIFT international payment system and to restrict Russia's use of its massive foreign currency reserves. The system is used to move billions of dollars around more than 11,000 banks and other financial institutions around the world.

Russian attack on Ukraine hits global markets as oil prices reach highest level in seven years. Oil prices reached highest level in seven years following explosions in Ukraine, as investors fled to traditional safe havens. Russia’s attacks on Ukraine roiled global markets Thursday, driving up prices for crude oil and natural gas as investors flood into gold and government debt - traditional safe havens. Brent crude, the global oil-price benchmark hit $102, topping $100 a barrel for the first time since 2014. Analysts warned on Wednesday that a full-scale attack on Ukraine from Russia could rapidly drive prices well above £1.50 a litre at the pump for British consumers. Source: independent.co.uk

Hopes for a diplomatic way out of a potentially devastating war are fading after Vladimir Putin received authorisation to use military force outside his country last night and the West began imposing sanctions. Allies of Ukraine have accused the Russian president of breaking international law by recognising two separatist-backed eastern regions as independent states and sending in troops. The move has been referred to as the beginning of an invasion by officials in the UK and US. Moscow has insisted it does not want to break off diplomatic relations with Kyiv. However, it began pulling personnel from its diplomatic posts in Ukraine today, state news agency Tass reported, in a sign of worsening relations. The Russian Foreign Ministry had previously announced a plan to evacuate diplomatic staff, citing threats. By Wednesday afternoon, the Russian flag was no longer flying over the embassy in Kyiv, according to an Associated Press photographer. Police surrounded the building. After weeks of trying to project calm, Ukrainian authorities also signalled increasing concern on Wednesday. The Foreign Ministry advised citizens against travel to Russia and recommended anyone there leave immediately, saying Moscow’s ‘aggression’ could lead to a significant reduction in consular services. The head of Ukraine’s National Security and Defence Council also called for a nationwide state of emergency – subject to parliamentary approval. Oleksiy Danilov said it will be up to regional authorities to determine which measures to apply, but they could include additional protection for public facilities, restrictions on traffic, and more . Countries around the world have announced sanctions against Russian banks and oligarchs amid fears Europe is heading for its bloodiest conflict since World War Two. The UK has also announced it will be providing greater military support to Ukraine, in the form of defensive weapons and non-lethal aid. But MPs from all sides have said the measures do not go far enough. Elsewhere, Germany halted a lucrative pipeline deal... The threat of war has shredded Ukraine’s economy and raised the spectre of massive casualties, energy shortages across Europe and global economic chaos. Leaders around the world fear the worst is yet to come. Putin has still not unleashed the 150,000 troops massed on three sides of its border with Ukraine. The US and UK have said tougher sanctions which could cause economic turmoil for Russia would go ahead if there is further aggression. But the Russian ambassador in the US, Anatoly Antonov, retorted that ‘sanctions cannot solve a thing’, adding: ‘It is hard to imagine that there is a person in Washington who expects Russia to revise its foreign policy under a threat of restrictions.’ In Ukraine’s east, where an eight-year conflict between Russia-backed rebels and Ukrainian forces has killed nearly 14,000 people, violence also spiked again. One Ukrainian soldier was killed and six more sustained injuries after shelling by the rebels, Ukrainian military said. Separatist officials reported several explosions on their territory overnight and three civilian deaths What are the latest developments in the Russia-Ukraine crisis? After weeks of rising tensions, Putin took a series of steps this week that dramatically raised the stakes. First, he recognised the independence of two separatist-held regions in Ukraine – Donetsk and Luhansk. Then he said that recognition extends even to the large parts of the territories held by Ukrainian forces, including the major Azov Sea port of Mariupol. Finally, he asked for and was granted permission to use military force outside Russia – effectively formalising a military deployment to the rebel regions. He suggested there was a way out of the crisis – if Kyiv would recognise Russia’s sovereignty over Crimea, which Russia illegally annexed in 2014, and renounced its bid to join Nato. Both demands have been previously rejected by Ukraine and the West. Source: metro.co.uk

Cameroon have approached Anthony Elanga to switch international allegiance to them, reports say. After making his Manchester United debut against Leicester City and opening his account for the club against Wolves a few days later last year, Elanga has become a useful member of the first-team squad. Interim boss Ralf Rangnick in particular has taken a liking to the young winger and given him plenty of first-team opportunities since he replaced Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Elanga was born in Sweden and moved to England at the age of 12 to join United - therefore making him eligible to play for the Three Lions internationally. But according to Footazimuts, Cameroon are making moves to try and convince him to play for them. Elanga's father Joseph, a left-back, represented the central African country 17 times and played at the 1998 World Cup. X X X was intended to represent kisses. Xs are used to represent kisses in other parts of the world too, but British people seem to use them particularly often. X X X simply means kisses, in an totally innocent way. Three kisses means he’s pretty keen on you - the minimum for kindness and affection would be one. It’s very common in British texting. It has nothing whatsoever to do with “X X X” porn. Most notably, they may add an x at the end of a message even to people they don’t know especially well – I’d say it’s the written equivalent of hugging someone when you meet with them. Almost everyone does it with their family; most people do it with friends; many people do it with acquaintances and colleagues; a few people do it with strangers. It’s perhaps more common from women than men. To some extent the number of xs correlates with the degree of affection, much like the length of a hug. But don’t make assumptions. If a British person adds xs after their name in a text, it doesn’t necessarily indicate a desire to actually kiss you in person, any more than a hug on meeting indicates a desire to hold you all night long.

Thousands of furious Brits have signed a petition calling on the Met Police to prosecute West Ham ace Kurt Zouma. The Sun exclusively shared footage of the player booting his cat like a football. He's since issued a grovelling apology after the film, shared by his brother Yoan on Snapchat, was exclusively featured by The Sun. But the Premier League ace could still face a criminal prosecution if the RSPCA deems the clip contains illegal behaviour. The Met Police say they won't be investigating, although the charity has its own powers to prosecute if it sees fit. Now more than 7,000 Brits have signed a petition calling for the Met to launch a probe. Source: https://www.breaking7.com/NewDetails/45031271

Opinion, please. Is it likely to be against the law to login into your friend's work account if they have given you their credentials? Does it count as hacking? Can I be arrested by the police?
