Bella Amor Global Aid Foundation, Nigeria Customs Service Conclude Mo’Feed Project in Akwa Ibom

By Naomisophyblog

Bella Amor Global Aid Foundation, in strategic partnership with the Nigeria Customs Service, has successfully concluded the Mo’Feed Project in Akwa Ibom State, marking a significant milestone in humanitarian outreach and food security intervention.

The large-scale initiative directly impacted over 5,000 beneficiaries, including children, widows, persons living with disabilities, underserved families, and vulnerable youths across six Local Government Areas. The outreach commenced in the Uyo Local Government Area and extended to Mkpat Enin, Esit Eket, Nsit Ubium, and Etinan, and concluded in Nsit Atai, ensuring inclusive and statewide coverage.

Observers note that the project went beyond food distribution, addressing broader social welfare needs while restoring dignity and hope to vulnerable households. Community leaders and beneficiaries described the intervention as impactful and timely, particularly amid ongoing economic challenges.

The Bella Amor Foundation sincerely acknowledges the Comptroller-General of Customs, Sir Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, for his leadership and support through the Customs Cares Initiative, which facilitated the collaboration. His administration has continued to emphasise corporate social responsibility and institutional partnerships aimed at strengthening community development.

The Foundation also acknowledged the dedication of officers who were present throughout the outreach, ensuring seamless coordination and professional execution across all locations. Special recognition was given to the Comptroller, CSR Unit, and M. P. Ibrahim for his hands-on leadership and unwavering support during the project.

Stakeholders noted that the active involvement of officers on the ground significantly contributed to the overall success of the initiative. The collaboration has further reinforced public perception of the Nigeria Customs Service as an exceptional institution committed not only to its statutory mandate but also to advancing humanitarian causes and community development.

Notably, Bella Amor Global Aid Foundation is reported to be the first non-governmental organisation to partner with the Nigeria Customs Service at this scale under the current framework, highlighting a growing synergy between public institutions and the nonprofit sector.

Stakeholders have described the Mo’Feed Project as a model for future humanitarian collaborations designed to advance food security and social protection across Nigeria.

We remain deeply grateful for the trust placed in our foundation and reaffirm our commitment to delivering sustainable, people-centred interventions that transform lives and communities.

NASFAT Call to Conscience: Upholding the Sanctity of Life and Social Responsibility

By Naomisophyblog

The Annual Ramadan Public Lecture of the pacesetting global Islamic society, Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society (NASFAT), reaffirmed the sanctity of human life and the collective duty to protect it. Held at the gigantic Masjid of NASFAT Islamic Center on Lagos-Ibadan Motorway, Asese, framed by the enduring principle that saving one life is akin to saving all humanity, the gathering reflected the Society’s commitment to compassion, moral courage and national renewal during the holy month of Ramadan.

In his welcome address, the President of NASFAT, Alhaji Ayodeji AbdulWahid AbdulRauf, warmly received members, distinguished guests and leaders. He restated NASFAT’s devotion to spiritual growth and social responsibility while commending the planning committee led by Alhaji Sheriffdeen Akinpelu for their dedication, foresight and disciplined coordination in delivering a successful event.

Professor Luqman Adedeji, Head of the Department of Arts Education at the University of Lagos and Branch Missioner of NASFAT’s Ikoyi-Dolphin Branch, led the intellectual engagement. Drawing on the Qur’anic principle of li-taʿārafū, he presented Islam’s moral vision for peaceful coexistence in a divided world.

He explained that diversity of race, language and culture is divinely ordained to foster dialogue, respect and moral accountability. True equality, he noted, is spiritual rather than social, and superiority is measured by piety, not lineage. When lived sincerely, these values reflect Islam’s universal mercy and its vision of humanity as one family under God.

Following this, Dr Abdul-Hakeem Abdul-Lateef, Chief Imam of the Lagos State House of Assembly Central Mosque, condemned terrorism, corruption and civic irresponsibility. He called for stricter adherence to the rule of law and urged journalists to prioritise verified facts over speculation, reinforcing the need for accountability in public life.

Delivering goodwill remarks, Her Excellency, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Deputy Governor of Ogun State, applauded NASFAT’s deliberate commitment to education and national development, particularly its investment in Fountain University Osogbo.

She expressed deep emotion that her father was part of the pioneering journey of the university, noting that its steady growth stands as a testament to visionary leadership and faith-driven enterprise. She described the institution as a beacon of academic excellence and moral discipline for future generations.

Representing the Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Dr Kadir Obafemi Hamzat, Dr Tajudeen Afolabi of the Lagos State Government commended NASFAT’s consistent humanitarian outreach and civic engagement across communities.

The lecture closed in a spirit of reflection and resolve led by the Chief Missioner of NASFAT, Imam Maroofdeen AbdulAzeez Onike, who prayed for all attendees, including Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji of Osun State. Participants departed inspired to uphold justice, protect lives and strengthen unity, determined to embody Ramadan’s lessons in daily conduct and ensure that compassion remains society’s enduring legacy.

Alhaji Shamsideen Owolabi Oseni, National Public Relations Secretary, Nasrul-Lahi-L-Fatih Society related this report to the press on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.

Amasiri: Lawyer sues govt, security chiefs for N100 billion, as Amasiri indigenes send SOS to President Tinubu

By Naomi Onome

Residents of the Amasiri community in Ebonyi state said their lives have become a living hell due to a 20-hour curfew imposed by the state governor, Mr Francis Nwifuru, following the brutal killing in a neighbouring community.

Although reports have hinted that the curfew has been relaxed to 12 hours, residents said they can no longer continue to live under the curfew and presence of heavy security operatives, whom they accused of torture and housebreaking, as they call for urgent restoration of normalcy in Amasiri and withdrawal of the security personnel from their homes.

The 20-hour curfew, it can be recalled, follows escalated tension on January 29, 2026, when suspected attackers reportedly struck Okporojo village in Oso Edda, a neighbouring community, leading to the alleged beheading of four men.

In response, the Ebonyi State Government, led by Governor Francis Nwifuru, imposed sweeping measures affecting the Amasiri community, which the residents alleged that the government blamed them for the beheading without conducting any investigations before the curfew was imposed.

The residents said the 20-hour daily curfew, closure of public and private schools, shutdown of banks and markets, redeployment of teachers, dissolution of certain community structures, and heavy deployment of security personnel to the area.

While government officials have maintained that the measures were aimed at restoring and preventing further violence, including reprisal attacks on the Amasiri community. However, the Amasiri residents say the curfew and other measures by the government have made life a living hell for them.

One Mrs Joy, an indigene of Amasiri, said, "In Amasiri, daily survival has become a difficult endeavour as farmers cannot easily access their fields. Traders have watched their goods spoil in locked shops. Students preparing for national examinations remain at home as classrooms stay closed. The curfew has affected access to healthcare delivery and every aspect of life. It's as if they do not want the Amasiri community to remain in existence as a community in Ebonyi state."

Mrs Joy recounted how an elderly relative fell ill during the curfew and could not be transported immediately for treatment.

“Since the curfew started, movement has been difficult. Hospitals, markets, schools – everything is affected. People are struggling and dying. Personally, I witnessed the impact of these harsh measures of the government, as one of my in-laws, an 80-year-old woman, fell ill, but due to the curfew, she could not be transported to the hospital. She died. This is a woman that could have lived to be 100, but her life was cut short. Also, pregnant women are giving birth at home, and they and their children cannot access medical care in the hospital."

Community leaders also expressed worry about the suspension of traditional institutions and administrative structures, describing them as pillars of social stability in the town.

It was gathered that two traditional rulers, Ezeogo Idam Bassey Onya (Ekuma Ubaghala III of Amasiri Autonomous Community) and Ezeogo Godfrey Oko Obia (Isa Ogu IV of Ndukwe Autonomous Community), as well as the Amasiri Community Development Association Coordinator. Hon. Baron Enya Ogbonnia is reportedly in custody. Residents say their continued detention has heightened anxiety within the community.

Following the devastating impact of the curfew, a lawyer identified as Barrister Madabuchi Idam has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja, demanding N100 billion in exemplary and aggravated damages over what he describes as widespread violations of the fundamental rights of Amasiri people.

In the suit filed before the Federal High Court, Idam is asking the court to determine whether the actions taken against Amasiri amount to collective punishment and whether they violate constitutional protections guaranteeing freedom of movement, association, education and fair hearing.

Joined in the suit are several security and government officials, including the Inspector-General of Police, the army and other federal authorities.

Legal observers note that Nigerian law prohibits collective punishment and requires that sanctions be evidence-based and proportionate.

"While the killings in Oso Edda demand justice, accountability must follow due process, and sanctions must target perpetrators, not entire communities."

Beyond the legal filings, fear has spread across Amasiri due to security agencies' alleged activities of alleged maltreatment. Sources said residents have reportedly relocated to neighbouring towns, wary of security operations and uncertain about when normalcy will return. The presence of armed personnel in civilian areas, residents say, has created a climate of tension rather than reassurance.

Civil servants and students of Amasiri origin claim they have faced disruptions in work and schooling outside the community, though government officials have denied allegations of discriminatory enforcement.

Community representatives are appealing to the Federal Government and international human rights organisations to intervene, urging dialogue, independent investigation into the violence, and restoration of civil institutions.

". We, the indigenes of Amasiri living outside the state, have come together to donate food items, medical supplies and cash to be taken to those in the village. It has become a humanitarian crisis for which the government at the federal level and the international community must come to our rescue. We also called for clear boundary demarcation between the Amasiri community and the Oso Edda community to prevent recurring clashes. We urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and call on the governor to restore normalcy to the Amasiri community by lifting the curfew and releasing our leaders that have been in jail." All we are saying is that the government should restore normalcy to Amasiri and go after the killers and give them justice. The security personnel deployed to the community should be withdrawn as well." Says an indigene.

Eze Chika Nwokedi Denies Role in Chibuike Azubuike 'Self-Acclaimed Obi of Lagos' Arrest, Demands Proof

By Naomi Onome

In a conversation led by Eze Chika Nwokedi, Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu, regarding a rumour about his involvement in a recent police incident and court case involving Chibuike Azubuike and others, he clarified that his dealings with Azubuike were limited, stemming from a lack of prior acquaintance, and maintained that the accusations against him (Nwokedi) are false.

Eze Chika Nwokedi, Chairman of Ndi'Eze Igbo Lagos, has denied allegations that he was involved in the arrest of Chibuike Azubuike, a self-proclaimed "Obi of Lagos". He stated that he only advised Azubuike against unveiling a ₦1.5 billion palace, citing potential tensions between Igbo and Yoruba communities in Lagos.

Azubuike was arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly parading himself as the "Obi of Lagos" and planning to unveil a ₦1.5 billion palace. The police described his actions as an unlawful attempt to exploit revered cultural institutions for selfish gain.

Nwokedi's denial comes after Azubuike accused him of orchestrating his arrest and urged Azubuike to come out and show evidence of his involvement, saying, "If I had known I would be falsely accused, I wouldn't have made efforts to see to his release."

According to Nwokedi, he only advised against sharing the invitation while foreseeing potential issues that could happen due to Azubuike's ambition. Azubuike's arrest alongside others was orchestrated by the supreme leaders of the Yoruba indigenous communities in Lagos, as earlier speculated, he said.

However, Nwokedi stated that his opposition to the ₦1.5 billion palace project was not intended to discourage Azubuike's ambition but rather to advise him on respecting cultural and geographical boundaries, given his (Eze Chika's) extensive experience living in Lagos.

He recounted events where he attempted to assist Azubuike after the latter was invited by the police, ultimately making an effort for his release. Despite efforts and multiple court appearances, Nwokedi was bewildered when allegations arose suggesting he had orchestrated Azubuike's arrest, insisting he had no part in it.

He urged for transparency and proof from those making such claims, emphasising that he had consistently sought to mediate the situation.

Eze Chika Nwokedi has given an ultimatum of 14 days with proof he orchestrated Azubuike's arrest; otherwise, he will approach the court of law to sue for false allegations and defamation.

Throughout the discourse, Nwokedi maintained that such discussions were harmful to the Igbo community in Yoruba land, as he advocates for careful consideration of the situation to mitigate future conflicts.

Human Trafficking Survivors Share Horrific Experiences of Sex Exploitation in Burkina Faso

...as GAHTO Calls for Action Against Human Trafficking

By Naomi Onome

Two Nigerian women, Anita and Saviour Aloho, have recounted their harrowing experiences of being trafficked to Burkina Faso for sex work.

The victims, who were rescued by Prosper K.A., the founder of the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organization (GAHTO), an organisation that combats human trafficking, shared their stories of exploitation and abuse.

According to the victims, they were lured to Burkina Faso with promises of legitimate work but were instead forced into sex trafficking. They were subjected to physical and emotional abuse and were forced to work long hours to pay off debts of 1.6 million CFA francs.

The victims described the conditions they were kept in as inhumane, with inadequate food, no medical care, and constant threats of violence. They were forced to engage in sex work to survive and were beaten and tortured if they refused.

One of the victims, 22-year-old Saviour Aloho, said she was introduced to the traffickers unknowingly through a family member with the promise of a sales job in Lagos, Nigeria. She was then taken From Lagos to Benin still with promises of a sales girl job and then to Burkina Faso, where she was forced into sex work.

Anita, a 19-year-old, also recounted that she was sent to Lagos by a familiar neighbour who had recently given birth and needed help with hospital bills. She was accompanied by two others and was tasked with meeting a person who would provide the necessary funds. However, upon arrival, she discovered that the designated person was imprisoned and had referred her to a Mr Lucky, who she believed would provide the money. Instead, Mr Lucky orchestrated her abduction, and she was taken to Benin and then Burkina Faso, while the two individuals she came with were left behind.

The victims praised PROSPER K.A. of GAHTO for rescuing them and providing them with support and assistance. They urged others to be cautious of human trafficking and to seek help if they are in similar situations.

Prosper K. A. Michael, founder of the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organization (GAHTO), established in 2019, has dedicated over two decades to humanitarian service, focusing on the critical issue of human trafficking.

Despite operating without government funding and relying solely on private donations, GAHTO is committed to rescuing victims and aiding their rehabilitation and empowerment, emphasising the necessity of financial support for these missions.

Michael advocates for poverty eradication as a primary strategy to prevent trafficking, stressing the need for improved parent-child relationships to ensure children's safety. He urges vigilance among parents to protect their children from traffickers.

Highlighting the organisation's past efforts, Michael recounts the recent rescue of two victims, Anita and Saviour, from Burkina Faso, where they were held against their will. He condemns human trafficking as a crime against humanity and expresses gratitude to the Nigerian Ambassador to Burkina Faso, Ambassador Muhammad Galadima, for the embassy's support in the repatriation process.

The Embassy has pledged collaboration with GAHTO to intensify the fight against human trafficking in Burkina Faso and West Africa, targeting areas notorious for sexual exploitation of young girls. Michael’s vision is to position GAHTO as the leading NGO in the fight against human trafficking in Nigeria, advocating for partnerships and donor support to enhance their operations.

The report highlights the need for increased efforts to combat human trafficking and protect vulnerable individuals from exploitation.

Uzor Kalu: A Disgrace to Nigerian Leadership and Incompetence in Constituency Representation - Iche

...as Uzor Kalu's 'No Network in My Constituency' Excuse Sparks Outrage

By Naomi Onome

The controversy surrounding former Abia State Governor and current Senator Uzor Kalu continues to escalate, with many Nigerians expressing outrage over his recent comments blaming poor network coverage in his constituency for his stance on electronic transmission of election results.

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, argues that Kalu's excuse is not only shameful but also a clear indication of his incompetence and lack of commitment to serving his people.

Iche said,

Kalu had stated that he was against the electronic transmission of results because there was no network coverage in his constituency, a claim that has sparked widespread outrage.

Many Nigerians see his excuse as shameful and an indication of his incompetence, pointing out that it's unacceptable for a senator to be unable to provide basic infrastructure like network coverage in his constituency, especially after serving as governor for 8 years.

Uzor Kalu is a deeply shameful individual in Nigerian politics, characterised as an ex-convict who, due to his affiliation with the ruling party, has managed to evade justice for his alleged atrocities.

Kalu’s previous court case was effectively sidelined because of his political connections. He is criticised for being a betrayal of his people, particularly during the 2023 APC convention when he expressed a desire for the presidential nomination, only to ultimately be denied.

This scenario is particularly embarrassing, especially considering his public assertions about the lack of network coverage in his constituency, which he claims is a reason for opposing electronic transmission of results.

The absurdity of such a statement is coming from someone who served eight years as governor and should have ensured better infrastructure.

Iche challenges his return to seek another Senate term, questioning his capability to fulfil the role effectively. Overall, Kalu's behaviour and statements are depicted as disgraceful for Nigeria, suggesting his constituents should promptly recall him due to his incompetence and lack of representation. The source document argues that as a leader, Kalu should be ashamed for failing to provide basic services such as network connectivity in his constituency.

Furthermore, Iche argues that Kalu's statement is not only embarrassing but also a clear example of the calibre of leaders Nigeria has. He questions Kalu's ability to represent Abia State in the Senate, especially given his failed bid for the APC presidential ticket in 2023, as many still believe Kalu was given false hope of getting the ticket and is now lashing out due to disappointment.

This recent controversy has led to calls for Kalu's recall, noting that he's unworthy to represent Abia State. Iche pointed out that his comments are a disgrace to Nigeria, highlighting the country's poor leadership.

He reiterates that Kalu's attempt to seek re-election to the Senate for a third term has also been met with scepticism, with many questioning what he hopes to achieve given his track record. The backlash against Kalu is seen as a reflection of the growing frustration among Nigerians with the country's leadership and the need for change, Iche added.

Chief Sunday Ude Dismisses Publication Allegations Fuelled by Payment Dispute

..... affirm support for APC and advise Igbos to register at the on going E- Membership registration of the party in all local government in lagos State.

By Naomi Onome

Chief Sunday Ude, President of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, responded to a recent publication by PM Express, dismissing it as a baseless attack fuelled by a payment dispute.

He clarified that the Igbo community has been legally registered and active in Lagos since 1998, long before the state government’s recent pronouncements on Eze Ndi Igbo titles, and emphasised that the community’s traditional leadership has helped maintain peace between Igbo and Yoruba residents across various local government areas.

Udeh affirmed his loyalty to the APC ruling party, urging Igbos in Lagos to register and align with it, while warning that the opposition is using the media to create confusion and undermine his leadership.

He stressed that Lagos State’s laws stand, but the community’s cultural practices and leadership structure predate these regulations and continue to foster harmony in the state.

Udeh clarified that his earlier publication encouraged Igbo people to register with the APC, the ruling party in Lagos, he said.

PM Express also published the said report on their platform, but tensions arose when the writer felt underpaid; he questioned the payment distribution between himself and another writer, suggesting that his payment was unjust, hence the publication to slander.

Ude emphasised that the Igbo community has been a recognised entity in Lagos since 1998; the Igbos have been conducting their cultural and traditional practices, including the crowning of community leaders, even prior to state regulations.

He acknowledged Lagos State's authority to impose laws and defended the long-standing existence of the Igbo community and its contributions to maintaining peace with the Yoruba population through leadership structures established to mitigate potential conflicts.

He staunchly denied claims made by the publication circulating the internet stating that, on no account, has he misrepresented or disobeyed the authority of the Lagos State Government. He made it clear that he would not contravene any legal decisions by the Lagos State government regarding community leadership and warned against further slander put together to smear his name.

He noted that in recent times and times past, the leadership from the late President Muhammadu Buhari to date have had their Igbo titles to show that they resonate with the Igbo culture as well as other cultures to foster peace, togetherness and one Nigeria.

Additionally, Udeh rebuffed claims from opponents of the APC, asserting his commitment to the party and stating that any dissenting voices attempting to undermine his position are merely attempts to generate division among the Igbo community. His loyalty to the APC remains firm, and he intends to encourage Igbo alignment with the party regardless of opposition.

Pat Utomi's 70th Birthday Symposium in Enugu: Experts Target Africa's Poverty, Spotlight Grassroots Leadership

By Naomi Onome

Prof. Pat Utomi's 70th birthday celebration kicked off on February 4, 2026, in Enugu with a high-profile symposium titled "Overcoming Poverty in Africa: Did We Get It Wrong? What Next?" held at Amaded Event Place, Ebeano Tunnel Road.

The event drew prominent figures, including Peter Obi, former Anambra governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate; Ghana's former Trade Minister Alan Kyerematen; and other leaders, alongside Nollywood stars and students from secondary schools and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

Panellists identified poor leadership as a key driver of Africa's persistent poverty and emphasised the crucial role of local government, accountability, and citizen engagement. Ghana's success in establishing 300 companies was highlighted, focusing on access to credit, affordable financing, entrepreneurial training, and technology. The symposium also spotlighted the need to revive SMEs in Nigeria to combat poverty, with Utomi endorsing Ruzu Group's products and receiving a souvenir ahead of a follow-up lecture in Asaba on February 6, 2026.

The panellists outlined practical steps to tackle Africa's poverty, stressing that years of bad leadership have been the main driver of its rise. Mr Alan detailed how local governments are the most crucial pillar among Nigeria's three tiers of government, calling them the grassroots engine for poverty eradication. Peter Obi added that citizens must demand accountability, transparency, and proper use of resources and should vote out leaders who fail to deliver on their promises. He emphasised that without this civic pressure, poverty will remain a persistent problem.

Dr Uzu Robert, CEO of Ruzu Group, asked the panellists what concrete steps Nigeria can take to revive its dying SMEs, noting that eradicating poverty is nearly impossible without strong small and medium enterprises. Mr Alan, former Ghanaian Minister for Trade, Industry and Private Sector Development, shared four key measures Ghana used to grow 300 companies that helped reduce poverty: genuine access to credit, affordable credit that lets local firms compete with multinationals, entrepreneur management training to improve handling of human and material resources, and access to technology and innovation for greater efficiency and standardisation.

Prof. Pat Utomi thanked everyone who made the event vibrant and successful, giving special appreciation to Dr Uzu Onyemaechi Robert, CEO of Ruzu Group, and his team for their crucial role. He used the opportunity to endorse Ruzu's range of products, pledging his readiness to support the brand in gaining global recognition whenever needed.

On behalf of staff and management, the Ruzu team presented a souvenir to Prof. Pat Utomi. The gift has been approved as the official materials for his birthday entrepreneurial lecture in Asaba on Friday, 6 February 2026.

High-profile attendees include former Anambra State governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate Mr Peter Obi; Mr M.K. Ahmed, OON, Chairman of the Council of the Society for Corporate Governance Nigeria; Mr Alan Kyerematen, former Ghanaian Minister for Trade, Industry and Private Sector Development; Prof. Osita Ogbu, OON, Chairman of Alaigbo Stabilisation Fund Ohaneze Ndigbo; Dr Uzu Onyemaechi Robert, CEO of Ruzu Group; Prof. Nnaemeka Franklin Ngwu; and Bishop James Okorocha. Also present were legendary Hollywood and Nollywood actors Prince Emeka Ani and A.B. Cowboy, plus students from prominent secondary schools and the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN).

Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) is facing mounting unrest as staff members have submitted a scathing petition to the Lagos State Government, accusing Vice Chancellor Professor Bilikis Okuneye of withholding approved salary increases, unpaid hazard and transport allowances stretching 72 months, discriminatory end-of-year bonuses, suppression of union activities, and promotion practices based on loyalty rather than merit.

The petition also alleges admission racketeering, sale of university assets, and widespread corruption, urging the state to establish an independent investigative panel to restore transparency and protect whistleblowers.

The petition, addressed to the Governor of Lagos State, the Commissioner for Education, the Special Adviser on Education, other key government stakeholders, and the Governing Council of LASUED, describes what the workers call a steady decline of the institution under the current leadership.

According to the petitioners, despite the Lagos State Government’s release of funds for salary harmonisation, LASUED staff are yet to receive their approved arrears. Junior academic staff were reportedly entitled to a 25 per cent salary increase, while senior academics were due for a 35 per cent increase. The workers allege that while other state-owned universities such as Lagos State University (LASU) and Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH) have complied with the directive, LASUED has failed to do so.

The workers further claim that hazard and transportation allowances spanning 72 months remain unpaid, worsening staff welfare and morale. They say the prolonged non-payment has plunged many workers into financial hardship and negatively affected service delivery within the institution.

Disparities in end-of-year bonuses also featured prominently in the petition. While staff of other Lagos State universities reportedly received bonuses equivalent to 100 per cent of their basic salaries, LASUED workers allegedly received only 30 per cent in 2023, 40 per cent in 2024, and 60 per cent in 2025, a situation they described as discriminatory and unjust.

Beyond financial issues, the petition accuses the university management of fostering a climate of fear and intimidation. The workers allege that union activities are deliberately suppressed and that staff who speak out face retaliation. One such case cited is that of Dr Zosu Segbenu, whose promotion was allegedly revoked due to his involvement in union activities.

Serious concerns were also raised over staff promotions and recruitment. The petitioners allege that promotions are no longer merit-based but determined by loyalty to the vice chancellor. They cited instances of unusually rapid promotions, including staff allegedly moving from level 3 to level 8 and later to level 13 within three years, as well as others jumping multiple grade levels within short periods.

In addition, the workers accused the administration of admission racketeering, claiming that admission slots are sold and that some prospective students are made to pay acceptance and medical fees without eventually gaining admission. They warned that such practices undermine academic integrity and devalue LASUED’s certificates.

The petition also alleged widespread corruption within the institution, including the sale of university assets, misallocation of funds, and manipulation of employment and promotion processes.

In response to these allegations, the concerned workers called on the Lagos State Government to urgently constitute an independent and impartial investigative panel to probe the activities of the vice chancellor and her administration. They stressed that the panel must protect whistleblowers and allow staff to present their grievances without fear of victimisation.

The workers appealed to the state government to intervene swiftly to restore fairness, transparency, and dignity to LASUED, warning that continued inaction could further erode the institution’s credibility and stability.

As of the time of filing this report, the LASUED management had not issued an official response to the allegations.

Chief Sunday Udeh Urge Igbo Community in Lagos to Massively Register with APC: 'Support the Ruling Party'

By Naomi Onome

The President General of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, Chief Dr. Sunday Udeh, has called on Igbo residents in Lagos State and federally to massively register with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.

In a passionate appeal, Chief Dr Sunday Udeh emphasised the importance of supporting the ruling party in Lagos and federally, citing the need for the Igbo community to align itself with those in power to drive progress and ensure their voices are heard.

Chief Udeh emphasised that supporting the ruling party is crucial for the Igbo community's progress and influence in Lagos, where they have a significant population. He further stressed that 'where one lives is where one should maintain and take care of', implying that Igbos should align themselves with the ruling party, APC.

He lamented that Igbos often neglect registration exercises, only to regret it later, and advised community leaders, market associations, and town unions to mobilise their members to register with the APC. He noted that having a large population in Lagos, estimated at 10-15 million, means Igbos can significantly impact election outcomes if they support a single party.

Chief Dr. Sunday explained that the importance of being part of the ruling party enables Igbos to access opportunities and benefits, citing the example of other states where the non-indigenous do not form opposition parties. He also appealed to the Igbo community's sense of pragmatism, stating that supporting the APC would be beneficial for them and foster good relations with other communities, particularly the Yoruba, who have accommodated Igbos in Lagos.

The President General urged everyone to sacrifice a few hours to register with the APC, using their National Identification Number (NIN) and voter's card, and expressed confidence that this would lead to a victorious outcome for the party in 2027. He concluded by reiterating the adage, "A journey of 1,000 miles starts with a footstep," emphasising the importance of taking this initial step to register with the APC.

Chief Dr Sunday Udeh during his swearing-in ceremony as the authentic President of the Igbo Speaking Community of Lagos State on 24th September 2025, noted that he is stepping into a significant leadership role with a clear vision for unity and progress among the Igbo community in Lagos. Chief Sunday Udeh emphasised the importance of Igbos speaking in one voice, reconciling differences, and fostering togetherness, having faced challenges in the past.

Udeh's multifaceted approach focuses on internal cohesion among Igbos in Lagos and keenness to respect the host community, Lagos, and its traditions as he advocates for Igbos to be law-abiding and respectful citizens. He highlighted the developmental contributions Igbos are known for, which have been maintained over time.

Udeh buttressed the importance of collaboration with the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, whom he says is supportive of Igbos hence the initiative to urge the Igbos towards achieving a better feat by supporting the ruling party for Progress.

Soludo's Market Visit Sparks Outrage: Critics Question Governor's Approach to Monday Sit-At-Home in Southeast Nigeria

...Sparks Debate on Freedom and Governance

By Naomi Onome

The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, recently stirred controversy with a visit to the Onitsha market, urging traders to open their shops on Mondays despite a long-standing sit-at-home tradition observed across Southeast Nigeria. The move has sparked a heated debate, with critics questioning Soludo's approach to governance and others defending his right to promote economic activity.

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate and president of Ambassadors of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation 'AMPEF', aka Voice of the Voiceless Media, reiterated that the governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, recently visited the Onitsha market and urged traders to open their shops on Mondays, defying a long-standing sit-at-home tradition observed across Southeast Nigeria.

Iche noted that the tradition, which has been ongoing for almost two years, is a protest against the detention of a prominent Southeast leader, Nnamdi Kanu, by the Federal Government. Critics argue that Iche's actions are an overreach of his authority and an attempt to impose his will on the people.

He said the sit-at-home tradition has not been accompanied by violence or unrest, with people simply choosing to stay home and engage in personal activities. Many see Soludo's actions as an attempt to suppress the people's right to peaceful protest and expression. The governor's comments, including a threat to close the market for a year, have been widely criticised as authoritarian and out of touch with democratic principles.

Comrade Iche argues that Soludo should respect the people's decision to observe the sit-at-home and focus on governance issues rather than trying to control private businesses. The governor's actions, he says, are seen as a sign of his lack of understanding of governance and his disconnection from the people he serves. The controversy highlights concerns about Soludo's leadership style and his willingness to disregard the rights of citizens in the name of economic progress, Iche added.

The public debate has also raised questions about the effectiveness of the sit-at-home tradition and whether it is achieving its intended goals. While some argue that it is a necessary form of protest, others see it as an outdated and ineffective strategy. The controversy is likely to continue, with Soludo facing opposition from those who believe he is overstepping his authority and disregarding the will of the people, Iche said.

Baby Testimony's Disappearance: Iche Calls for Probe into Pastor Chris Okafor, Pastor Jeremiah, and Doris Ogala

By Naomi Onome

A controversy has erupted involving prominent Nigerian pastors Chris Okafor and Jeremiah (Papa J) and Nollywood actress Doris Ogala over allegations of covering up the disappearance of a baby known as Baby Testimony. Doris Ogala has claimed that the pastors gave her ₦54 million, allegedly to keep quiet about the baby's whereabouts, sparking outrage and calls for investigation.

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, in his analysis of the above situation, noted that Doris Ogala has confessed that she received 54 million Naira from Pastor Chris Okafor and Pastor Jeremiah (referred to as Papa J).

According to Doris Ogala's confession, the pastors initially offered her a car but later gave her ₦54 million to cover up the issue related to Baby Testimony's disappearance, which Prophet S. from South Africa was trying to uncover.

Iche further said,

"The Nigerian Police should at this point launch an arrest on Doris Ogala, Chris Okafor, and Prophet Jeremiah Omoto Fufeyin to clarify their involvement in the case, as the mother of Baby Testimony continues to seek justice for her missing child."

"Public outcry is urged, especially from Nigerian women and civil society groups, to demand accountability from Doris Ogala and the pastors regarding the circumstances surrounding the financial transaction and the missing child."

Iche asserted that this issue cannot be overlooked, emphasising the need for a thorough investigation by Nigerian security agencies, including the police and DSS. He raised concerns regarding Pastor Jeremiah's previous televised claims about locating Baby Testimony, as no progress has been made in uncovering the child's location.

He added that the public is closely monitoring the actions of law enforcement agencies to see if they will take action and hold those involved accountable in this troubling case.

The allegations have sparked outrage and calls for investigation, with the baby's mother still searching for answers about her child's disappearance. The matter has gained significant attention, with demands for the Nigerian Police, DSS, and other security agencies to take action.

However, the situation has led to widespread criticism, with many calling for Doris Ighallo, Pastor Chris Okafor, and Pastor Jeremiah to come forward and provide information about Baby Testimony's whereabouts. There are also demands for the pastors to explain the ₦54 million transaction and any involvement they may have had in the baby's disappearance.

The controversy has raised concerns about the actions of prominent figures and the need for accountability, especially in cases involving missing children. The Nigerian public is urging authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure justice for Baby Testimony's mother.

Even Armoured Vehicles Cannot Replace Defensive Driving – Background Check Expert

By NaomisophyBlog

As a defensive driver, when I analyse the accident involving Anthony Joshua, I do not see fame or headlines. I see a breakdown of fundamental defensive driving principles, magnified by the harsh reality of our Nigerian motorways.

Let me be clear: this accident was avoidable. Even though the vehicle was a hard-skin ballistic SUV, designed to withstand attacks, it is not invincible against high speed, poor judgement, and road hazards. Armour protects against bullets, not bad driving decisions.

On Nigerian highways, speed is not just a number on the dashboard; it is a choice that can mean life or death. A defensive driver does not drive on confidence or vehicle capability alone; they drive based on what the road can throw at them next. And in Nigeria, the answer is anything.

Stationary trucks, broken-down vehicles, unmarked obstacles, pedestrians, sudden lane blockages – these are not exceptions. They are part of the everyday reality on our motorways. A defensive driver anticipates these hazards long before they appear.

Driving fast in such an environment shows disregard for the principles of defensive driving. Speed reduces reaction time, limits escape options, and turns manageable hazards into fatal outcomes. Even in an armoured vehicle, you cannot drive recklessly and expect to escape unscathed.

Lane discipline is another critical issue. Many drivers misuse the white lane, believing it is safe. On Nigerian highways, the white lane is a known danger zone; trucks park there without warning, vehicles break down, and pedestrians may appear suddenly. Hugging the shoulder at high speed is courting disaster, no matter the strength of your car.

Our roads themselves are filled with death traps: faded lane markings, broken streetlights, unmarked speed breakers, poorly placed reflective studs, and inadequate hazard warnings. These conditions do not forgive mistakes; they amplify them.

However, poor infrastructure does not remove driver responsibility. A defensive driver adjusts behaviour to match the environment: slowing down when visibility is poor, increasing following distance, scanning far ahead, and assuming the next bend hides a hazard. That mindset saves lives.

Many drivers wrongly believe, “I know this road” or “I can handle speed.” But skill, familiarity, and armoured vehicles do not replace discipline. The road does not care about experience or status. One wrong decision, one assumption too many, and tragedy follows.

This incident is a stark reminder: Nigerian highways punish complacency. Until our roads are properly marked, illuminated, and regulated, the only real protection we have is disciplined defensive driving. Slow down. Read the road. Respect uncertainty. Drive as if danger is always ahead because, on these highways, it always is.

The above analysis is made by Prince Olaoye E. A., a criminologist, CPO, instructor, and background check ☑ expert.

"Delta State in Shock: Young Father-to-Be Killed on Christmas Night in Kwale"

By Naomi Onome

Tragedy marred Christmas celebrations in Delta State's Kwale community as a 32-year-old man, Amauche Lucky Ezeji, was gunned down by an unidentified assailant on Christmas Day, leaving his family shattered and the community in fear.

The fatal shooting occurred around 8 pm on Askaka road, despite the Delta Police Command's assurance of enhanced security measures during the festive period.

The deceased, Amauche Lucky Ezeji, had just dropped his pregnant wife at his grandmother's house for the Christmas celebration when the incident occurred.

According to his mother, Chinyere Emeagi, Amauche received a call while at his grandmother's, prompting him to rush out, and that's when the shooting happened. "He was shot in the chest at a close range," Chinyere revealed, adding that the killer escaped as people panicked, leaving Amauche in a pool of blood.

Efforts to save Amauche's life were futile as he was pronounced dead at the hospital. The murder has plunged his family into mourning, with his community gripped by fear and unease. The Delta Police Command has launched an investigation into the killing, but so far, no arrests have been made, and the motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Amauche happens to be the only child of both parents until his death; he was also suppose to bury his late father on January 7th, 2026 before he was murdered.

The tragic incident has sparked concerns about security in the area, with residents questioning the effectiveness of the police's safety assurances. Amauche's killing is a stark reminder of the vulnerability of lives, even during festive periods meant to be filled with joy and peace. As the community buries one of its own, there's a growing clout for justice and answers on who perpetrated this heinous crime....

"Ogala's Arrest Over Chris Okafor Claims Sparks Outrage, Police Silence Fuels Speculation" – Iche

By Naomi Onome

As concerns mount, Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, aka "Voice of the Voiceless", noted Nigerians are demanding clarity from the police on Ogala's arrest and the status of her allegations against Chris Okafor.

Recently, Ogala had publicly accused Okafor of promising marriage, leading to an abortion, and hinted at dark secrets involving Okafor and a church altar. With the police maintaining an unsettling silence, the public wants answers on whether Ogala's arrest was connected to her explosive claims and what actions authorities are taking regarding her pleas for investigation, Comrade Prince Saviour Iche noted.

Iche said,

"In the midst of a dispute with Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, Nollywood actress Doris Ogala was arrested on December 20, 2025; Ogala confirmed the presence of police in her home during her live broadcast. Thanks to the efforts of influencer Martins Otse, aka VDM, and human rights campaigner Omoyele Sowore, she was freed on December 22, two days later."

"The controversy surrounding Doris Ogala's arrest deepens as Nigerians press for answers from the police. Ogala's allegations against Chris Okafor had been making headlines, with claims of broken promises. Her sudden arrest and release without explanation has fuelled speculation of a cover-up, particularly given Okafor's influential position."

"The Nigerian Police Force's silence on the matter has drawn sharp criticism, with many demanding transparency on Ogala's detention and the status of her allegations. "Why the secrecy if there's nothing to hide?" questioned a social media user. Others are linking the arrest to Ogala's vocal criticism of Okafor, a prominent faith leader."

"Ogala's accusations had included Okafor's promising marriage and her terminating a pregnancy based on that promise. She also publicly urged authorities to investigate Okafor's conduct, alleging he "buried something on the altar". With no official word from police on these claims or Ogala's arrest, Nigerians are left wondering about the force's next steps. The lack of communication has intensified calls for accountability."

Furthermore, Iche reiterates that Ogala has called on authorities, specifically the Department of State Services (DSS), to investigate Okafor regarding claims that he buried something on an altar. Despite these serious allegations and the public outcry, the Nigerian Police have yet to provide any responses or updates regarding the arrest or the investigation into Ogala's claims against Okafor, leaving many Nigerians eager for answers about the situation.

According to Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, Doris Ogala was arrested and subsequently released, prompting widespread confusion among the public regarding the reasons behind her arrest and the identity of those responsible.

The public needs to know why Doris Ogala was detained for talking about her pain; thus, it's critical that the Nigeria Police provide a clear statement to dispel any uncertainty. According to Doris Ogala's knowledge, the DSS should also move swiftly; nothing should be overlooked, Iche added.

"Scandal Rocks Nigerian Faith Circle: Chris Okafor's Polygamous Wedding Under Fire, Pst. Matthew Ashimolowo Under Spotlight" - Iche

"...Questions Faith Leaders' Integrity"

By Naomi Onome

Prominent Nigerian preacher Pst Chris Okafor, the founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, also known as Liberation City faces scathing criticism for allegedly practising what he preaches against – polygamy. His recent church wedding to a new wife, while his first wife is still alive, contradicts his monogamy teachings, fuelling accusations of hypocrisy. Nollywood actress Doris Ogala's claims of a seven-year affair with Okafor add fuel to the fire, raising unsettling questions about faith leaders' integrity in Nigeria.

Human rights activist Comrade Prince Saviour Iche claims that Pastor Chris is acting hypocritically by getting married to a new wife when his first wife is still alive. It is stated that Chris's first wife accused him of domestic abuse, hence their separation. Given their beliefs on monogamy, Iche questions why religious leaders like Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo, who officiated the wedding, and groups like PFN and CAN haven't denounced the act.

The report circling the internet space alleges Chris Okafor had an affair with a Nollywood actress, Doris Ogala, while still married for seven years, contradicting his preachings and biblical teachings of "one man, one wife". Iche says this singular scenario has exposed a broader issue of hypocrisy and integrity loss in Nigerian churches.

Pastor Mathew Ashimolowo, a prominent faith leader and the senior pastor of Kingsway International Christian Centre in London officiated the wedding, drawing sharp criticism. Iche questions why Ashimolowo and organisations like the Pentecostal Federation of Nigeria (PFN) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) haven't addressed the issue, given their stance on monogamy. The incident sparks accusations of hypocrisy, integrity loss, and commercialisation of faith in Nigerian churches, potentially eroding public trust.

Iche said,

"In the context of Chris Okafor's marriage, the narrative surrounding the controversy is a perceived hypocrisy, especially amongst religious leaders who have gone totally against their teachings on fidelity and the sanctity of marriage. Highlighting the concepts propagated by some religious figures, which assert the principles of monogamous marriage and the moral condemnation of adultery and fornication, Okafor, who is viewed as one such religious figure and a role model by some within the religious community, has allegedly engaged in multiple adulterous relationships, all while still being married to his first wife and contrary to the doctrines he teaches."

Iche emphasises the contradiction of Okafor's actions with his public teachings by noting that he has married another woman while his first wife is still alive. This situation, he says, raises questions about the authenticity and accountability of religious leaders, particularly concerning the officiating of the wedding by prominent pastor Matthew Ashimolowo. Comrade Iche expresses dismay at Ashimolowo's participation in the ceremony and questions whether such leaders adhere to their own teachings or possess a different moral framework.

Furthermore, the Iche criticises the silence of organisations like the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) and the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) on this matter, suggesting that they should have taken a stance to address what they see as a moral failing among their ranks.

Iche concludes his opinion with a broader commentary on the state of Christianity in Nigeria, asserting that many churches operate like businesses, leading to a decline in faith among followers who are beginning to turn back to traditional beliefs. This critique of religious practices and the involvement of prominent figures underscores a significant disillusionment with the church as an institution, Iche added. Calls for an examination of the integrity and consistency of religious leaders in upholding the core values of their faith.

"CAN is a Toothless Bulldog": Outrage Over Ini Edo Movie as Critic Slams Christian Association of Nigeria's Hypocrisy

By Naomi Onome

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, has come to the defence of Nollywood actress and producer Ini Edo, criticising the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) over its threat against her and her crew, sparked by a movie they deemed offensive to Christianity. Iche, the critic, spares no punches, branding CAN a "toothless bulldog" and accusing the organisation of hypocrisy, pointing to alleged internal issues and inaction on pressing matters affecting Christians in Nigeria.

The movie 'A Very Dirty Christmas' has sparked several reactions online after the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) made threats of sanctions on the said movie. Ini Edo, the movie producer of 'A Very Dirty December', is facing fresh backlash after CAN claims that the film is contrary to the teachings of Christianity.

For this course, Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, has risen to Ini Edo's defence, unleashing a scathing attack on CAN, accusing the organisation of losing its integrity and sense of purpose, and saying that instead of being mired in hypocrisy and inaction, the association should focus on critical issues plaguing Nigerian Christians.

Iche expresses strong disapproval of CAN, labelling it a "toothless bulldog" without the authority to prevent the release of the film. He noted that CAN has lost credibility due to perceived failures in its responsibilities, particularly regarding issues within the church and the broader Nigerian society.

Furthermore, Iche criticises CAN for not addressing the troubles facing its members, such as allegations against various pastors and the ongoing violence against Christians in the country. He asserts that the association should focus on internal reform rather than targeting Ini Edo, who is considered an innocent party in this dispute.

In addition, Iche noted that CAN’s leadership is failing in its duty to speak out against the injustices affecting Christians and is instead preoccupied with personal gain. Iche urges CAN to confront its internal issues rather than the criticism and sanction of Ini Edo's film, highlighting a broader concern about the organisation's effectiveness and integrity in representing Christian interests in Nigeria.

AMPEF Launches “Voice of the Voiceless” Studio, Empowers Over 20 Students With Culinary Vocational Skills

By Naomi Onome

As part of its yearly empowerment programme in Lagos, the Ambassador of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF) certifies more than 20 teenage students following a period of acquiring a culinary vocational skill.

This year's event, held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, made a significant impact with new innovations such as the unveiling of the AMPEF recording studio, a novelty match between the yellow and green teams, an on-the-spot cooking assignment done by the vocational skill of graduating students, cultural displays, dances, words of admonition by human advocate experts and other events.

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate and the founder of Ambassadors of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF), in his opening address reveals efforts undertaken within community development, including organising events that foster talent among youth. These initiatives include football competitions and culinary training sessions for children, aimed at uplifting their potential and providing them platforms to showcase their abilities. The culmination of their efforts is described through a recent event where children demonstrated various skills, receiving accolades for their skills in cooking, dancing, and singing.

While addressing the culinary skill of graduating students with a motivational speech, human rights lawyer Barr. Abiodun Kolawole, aka Iya Gani, emphasises the importance of individual involvement in societal change, asserting that government efforts alone are insufficient. Her message to the graduating students is a call to action, urging them to embrace their roles as trained by the Ambassadors for Peace and Enlightenment Foundation. She encouraged them to leverage the skills they have acquired to make a positive impact in their lives and communities.

In her speech, the trainees are reminded of their potential to shine and influence the world, stressing that personal growth and empowerment begin with self-belief. The metaphor of being "moved from magic to mastery" serves to inspire attendees to develop their talents and advocate for change.

Through repeated congratulations and affirmations of support, Iya Gani, during her speech, seeks to motivate the culinary skill students to take action, uphold their responsibilities, and harness their creativity. She sounded a reminder that every small effort contributes to larger societal progress, encouraging the young trainees to realise their potential and aim for greatness. Overall, her speech is marked by its emphasis on collective effort, personal commitment, and the belief that every individual can contribute to a brighter future.

Mrs Lolade Ajayi, an advocate for female brutalisation, in her speech, emphasised that femicide should be stopped. She highlights a significant day dedicated to the elimination of domestic violence against women and children, reinforcing the need for awareness and action.

Lolade addresses issues regarding abuse, specifically emphasising the importance of reporting both sexual and physical abuse. In her speech, she expressed understanding that many victims hesitate to approach the police due to stigma and humiliation, suggesting alternative reporting methods such as speaking to trusted adults or community members like Comrade Prince Saviour Iche. An urgent call to action is made for both men and women to no longer remain silent about abuse to prevent its continuation.

In her discussion with the audience, Lolade transitions to the concept of femicide, defined as the intentional killing of women, often by individuals close to them due to gender-based violence. She lists potential warning signs, or "red flags", such as excessive jealousy, monitoring behaviour, and property destruction, which indicate a potentially abusive relationship, as Lolade encourages vigilance among women and emphasises that women should not be seen as victims but deserve respect and protection.

She concluded her address with a reminder for collective responsibility in protecting vulnerable individuals, encouraging audience members to report any suspected cases of abuse, particularly concerning children. She also mentions the availability of support from organisations focused on addressing abuse, such as her organisation and AMPEF.

The new recording studio by AMPEF, as officially unveiled, will serve multiple functions, such as creating live records of events and discussions concerning the state of the nation; running interviews for VIPs or any other invited guests on happenings around the globe; allowing individuals to visit to air their views on concerning issues; making live reports of life-threatening incidences; and so on.

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche's statements on the unveiling of a new AMPEF studio highlight the vital role that social media plays in amplifying the voices of marginalised individuals, particularly those lacking traditional means of communication. He emphasised that while social media has unveiled long-standing issues within society, the underlying challenges persist. A significant innovation in human rights advocacy is showcased, wherein grassroots outreach allows individuals from remote areas to connect with authorities effectively as he advocates for honest and untainted media reporting as essential to the movement, underscoring their commitment to transparency and integrity.

He pivots to specific success stories by AMPEF, including a harrowing case of domestic violence involving a father who abused multiple partners and their children. Following a tragic incident where a four-year-old boy lost his life due to the father's neglect and violence, the organisation's intervention 'AMPEF' led to the apprehension of the culprits, highlighting their prompt response to emergencies. He details further rescue operations, underscoring the importance of returning children to their families, ensuring they receive education or vocational training, and sharing success stories of rescued individuals who are now thriving through amplified voices; hence, the new studio was created for that purpose.

Why Correcting False Narratives About Abortion Matters for Community Health: Inside LIFE's 3-Day Workshop for Lagos Health Workers

By Naomi Onome

For many Nigerians, abortion is a topic wrapped in silence, discomfort, and strong personal beliefs. But behind the debates and misunderstandings lies a simple truth: unsafe abortion is a major contributor to preventable maternal deaths, and families across the country continue to feel the impact. When women and girls don’t know where to turn, or fear being judged, they often resort to unsafe methods that put their lives at risk.

This is why the Leadership Initiative for Youth Empowerment (LIFE) organised a threeday capacitybuilding workshop for health workers across Lagos State. Rather than focusing on politics or controversy, the workshop centred on something most people can agree on every woman deserves safe, respectful, and lifesaving care when she needs it.

Creating a Safe Space for Honest Conversations

The workshop, held from November 25 to 27, 2025, brought together health workers from public and private facilities for an open, practical discussion about unsafe abortion, stigma, and the role of healthcare providers in reducing maternal mortality.

Led by Dr. Sholakunmi Olusanya, a publichealth physician with the Lagos State Health Service Commission, the sessions focused on how false narratives and misconceptions about abortion contribute to fear, shame, and delayed care. Dr. Olusanya emphasised that misinformation doesn’t just mislead, it can cost lives.

Participants explored how stigma affects women’s decisions, how myths spread within communities, and how health workers can use clear, compassionate communication to counter harmful narratives.

Understanding PostAbortion Care: What It Really Involves

A major part of the workshop focused on postabortion care, which is often misunderstood. Health workers discussed the essential components, including:

*Emergency treatment for complications
Managing infections.

*Emotional and physical counselling

*Contraception and family planning

*Broader reproductive health services

These services are not about encouraging abortion, they are about saving lives when complications arise, whether from a miscarriage or an unsafe procedure.

Connecting Reproductive Health to Global Goals

Dr. Olusanya also linked Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially SDG 3, which focuses on ensuring healthy lives and promoting wellbeing for all. She stressed that achieving these goals requires the involvement of community leaders, religious leaders, and other influencers who can help spread accurate information and reduce stigma.

Her message was clear: health workers cannot do this alone. Community voices matter. Why Myths and Stigma Are So Harmful. Throughout the workshop, participants examined common myths, such as the belief that abortion always causes infertility or that only “immoral” women seek it. These misconceptions fuel stigma, which in turn leads to:
Social isolation
Fear of seeking help
Delayed medical care
Increased unsafe abortions

Dr. Olusanya highlighted that stigma is not just a social issue, it is a public health issue. When women feel judged or ashamed, they avoid care until it is too late.

A Look at the Legal Landscape; And Why It Matters

The workshop also explored Nigeria’s complex legal framework. While abortion is restricted, it is legally permitted to save a woman’s life. A landmark ruling in June 2025 expanded this to include survivors of rape and sexual violence.

However, many health workers and community members remain unaware of these provisions. This lack of clarity creates hesitation, fear, and inconsistent care, even in emergencies where quick action is essential.

Participants discussed how regional differences in the law, combined with cultural and religious beliefs, contribute to confusion and stigma. This makes it harder for health workers to provide even legally permissible services.

VCAT: Helping Health Workers Reflect on Their Own Values
One of the most impactful parts of the workshop was the introduction of VCAT, Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation. This exercise helps health workers reflect on their personal beliefs, understand how those beliefs influence their behaviour, and learn how to provide nonjudgmental care even when they hold strong personal views.

VCAT encourages:
Selfawareness
Respectful dialogue
Reduced stigma
Patientcentred care

For many participants, this was a powerful reminder that empathy and professionalism go hand in hand.

Why This Matters for Everyday Nigerians
For people who may feel unsure or conflicted about abortion, the workshop’s message offers a balanced perspective: you don’t have to support abortion to support saving women’s lives.
Most Nigerians value compassion, fairness, and community responsibility.

When a woman is facing a medical emergency, whether from complications, miscarriage, or an unsafe procedure, what she needs most is care, not judgment.
By correcting false narratives, improving communication, and strengthening community awareness, health workers can help reduce preventable deaths and ensure that women receive the support they need.

Looking Ahead: Building a More Informed and Compassionate Society
The workshop ended with an open discussion where health workers shared reallife experiences from their facilities. Their stories reflected a range of views but a shared commitment to reducing maternal mortality.

The path forward includes:
Better public education
Stronger community engagement
Clearer policies
Continued training for health workers
Reducing stigma through honest conversations

LIFE’s initiative is a reminder that progress begins with understanding, and that when communities come together to challenge misinformation, lives can be saved.

4th Edition: Eze Okpoko Foundation Gifts Over 200 Widows and Widowers with Food, Cash, Other tems For Christmas

By Naomi Onome

In a heartfelt gathering that felt more like a family reunion than a public event, the Eze Okpoko Foundation, led by Eze Chika Nwokedi, hands out food items in various forms, cash gifts, wristwatches and printed materials (aka Ankara) to over 200 widows and widowers in the 4th edition of the annual "widow-blessing" tradition—a mission which Eze Chika says is driven by a simple, divine mandate to "touch lives".

The widow-widowers' event held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, in Ijegun, Lagos, attracted a diverse assembly of attendees, including members and executives of the Igbo Speaking Community and Ohaneze Ndigbo, alongside individuals from various other tribes. This gathering served as a platform for providing goodwill, particularly to widows and widowers who are affiliated with the aforementioned Igbo organisations as well as all registered community members, who were the primary beneficiaries of the event.

The widow and widower event has been conducted continuously since 2022, benefiting over 1,000 individuals. Additionally, the Eze Okpoko Foundation provides support for the less privileged in society, as evidenced by its records, which detail its involvement in paying hospital bills for those in need and aiding various anonymous beneficiaries in multiple ways.

One such notable event is the 4th edition of the 2025 feeding programme specifically aimed at widows and widowers. During this occasion, more than 200 individuals in this demographic received food items as gifts for Christmas. Additionally, cash gifts presented to the beneficiaries ranged from N10,000 to N25,000. Some families benefited from double packages, owing to their membership in the Igbo Speaking Community and Ohaneze Ndigbo, in conjunction with being a widow or widower.

Pst. Amb. Tessy Chika Nwokedi, Queen Ugoeze 1 and wife of the founder of the Foundation, admonished the attendees of the event, particularly speaking to the widows and widowers; she emphasised God's compassion for widows, stressing that their grief and cries are heard by Him.

She shares insights on the pain of widowhood, the value of faith, and the importance of obedience to God's word.

Pst. Tessy highlights biblical examples of widows who were blessed, encouraging widows to use whatever little they have to serve others and trust in God's provision. She also addresses those still married, urging them to nurture their relationships, as God's grace can transform painful circumstances. The overall message is one of hope, resilience, and reliance on God for support during difficult times.

Chief Martins, the chairman of Ohaneze Ndigbo Ijegun, describes the ongoing charitable efforts led by Eze Amb. Dr Chika Nwokedi, focused on providing support to widows and community members, as very thoughtful and exciting. This yearly initiative, he says, aims to positively impact the lives of these individuals. Unlike previous years, this particular effort was conducted without external direction; the foundation took the initiative independently, emphasising a personal commitment to sharing from the heart. Chief Martins expresses gratitude for the contributions made, noting the substantial impact it has had, with over 300 people receiving assistance, including food and various supplies. He acknowledges the efforts of Eze Chika in uplifting many lives through acts of generosity, reinforcing the importance of community support and philanthropy.

The founder of Eze Okpoko Foundation, Eze Amb. Dr Chika Nwokedi, the Ezendigbo of Ijegun Ijeododo, Chairman of the Council of Ndi' Eze Igbo Lagos, Founder of the Ndigbo Buru'otu Association of Nigeria, and former Chairman of Ladipo, with contagious enthusiasm recounted how, year after year, he and his team hand out food, cash, and even parcels of land to those in need, turning ordinary days into moments of hope. The crowd—filled with grateful widows, supportive friends, and curious onlookers—listened as he explained the logistics, the challenges, and the sheer joy that comes from watching a smile light up a face that’s been through hardship. This year’s celebration, he says, marked by a lavish buffet and generous donations, underscored his unwavering commitment to turning compassion into action.

He said,

"I am deeply committed to my culture of helping those in need, especially widows, and I do this every month on the 12th or 13th. I find joy in their smiles as I bless them, regardless of the amount of resources I have. My friends from around the world support me financially, but I emphasise that the act of giving is what matters most. I believe that in life, true wealth is measured by how we touch the lives of others."

"I strive to provide for others not only through money but also through food and fellowship. Every year, I plan better ways to support those in need, and I feel fulfilled seeing happiness in their faces. This year, I've made significant efforts, including providing food and cash blessings to widows and others requiring help. I maintain that God appreciates our efforts to help the least fortunate, equating our kindness to divine nourishment."

"Additionally, I have made contributions beyond just food, such as donating land in Lagos and building homes for those in need. This is part of my ongoing mission to make a difference, and I continue to receive support from my community and friends, which fuels my endeavours. Each year, I pray for the strength to make my blessings more meaningful."

"I acknowledge that challenges exist, yet my faith keeps me grounded, knowing that as long as my intentions are pure, I will prevail. I derive happiness from serving others, and I am encouraged by the prayers and support I receive from leaders and friends. Their sincerity brings me joy, reinforcing my belief that my efforts are recognised and valued by a higher purpose."

Juliet Ndukwe and Mercy Dennis, who are widows and beneficiaries of the Eze Okpoko Foundation, express gratitude towards the organiser of the event for their gifting support to attendees, stating God's blessings. Mercy Dennis mentions that it is her first time being a beneficiary of the Eze Okpoko event for widows and widowers, having learnt about it last year but only recently participating, while Juliet stated that she benefitted from four rounds of the gift items, making her go home with multiple gifts. They both also convey blessings for the organisers, wishing them favour and continued support. Their statements capture a warm and appreciative atmosphere regarding community assistance and the individuals' positive experiences.

Some other windows commented on the genuity and selfless efforts of the Eze Okpoko Foundation. Their statements capture a warm and appreciative atmosphere regarding community assistance and the individuals' positive experiences. Unlike some other philanthropists, the widows noted that Eze Okpoko assists them freely, without imposing conditions or any dubious attachments. They commended his self-discipline and worthiness, further reinforcing the foundation's positive reputation in the community.

The event featured several key highlights, which included a musical performance, admonitions from various speakers, and the presentation of various food items such as rice, semolina, yams, vegetable oil, and tomato paste. Additionally, there were presentations of gifts that consisted of wrappers, cash, and wristwatches.

Jigsimur International celebrated its 7th anniversary in Lagos on December 7, 2025, turning the occasion into a glittering showcase of success for its network of distributors.

The event drew over 5,000 members and prospects, who gathered to witness the company hand out 54 brand‑new cars and announce more than 200 international‑trip packages to qualifiers of the 2025 Car Awards.

Reflecting on the brand’s journey from a modest startup in 2018 to a multi‑level‑marketing powerhouse that has delivered hundreds of cars, millions in bonuses and numerous community‑impact projects across Nigeria and beyond, the CEO of Jigsimur International, Chief Lilian Osuofia, reeled out the achievements of the journey so far with the launch of Jigsimur into the Nigerian market.

In a celebratory account of her company's seven-year journey, Chief Dr Lillian Osuofia discussed the challenges and successes faced since its inception in 2018. Lillian reveals that Jigsimur has provided over 800 benefits to people since 2018, including the distribution of cars, with 109 cars given in the previous year and 54 this year, reaching a national team count of over 300 individuals. She positions Jigsimur as a transformative health product that balances the pH levels in the body, boosts mood, and promotes overall well-being, stating that every living soul can benefit from it.

Lillian outlines several challenges, notably difficulties with suppliers from the U.S. and the impact of the Nigerian economy on her operations, including high taxes and clearing goods. She shares her commitment to creating job opportunities, paying thousands of Nigerians weekly, and addressing social issues such as crime through employment opportunities provided by her business. She expresses pride in witnessing personal transformations among her clients and associates, highlighting how her business has helped individuals avoid criminal activities and improve their living conditions.

Integrity stands as a fundamental principle for Lillian, who states that her company has built a reputation for reliability, ensuring that individuals receive what they qualify for. This commitment has not only resulted in many clients becoming homeowners and financially successful but has also rejuvenated the community. She warns against counterfeit products that mimic Jigsimur and assures customers of the original product's effectiveness, citing its global reach and established presence in Ghana.

Jigsimur is marketed as an alkaline product capable of combating various diseases, including boosting the immune system and potentially aiding conditions like prostate cancer. Lillian insists that the proof lies in customer testimonials and encourages others to try Jigsimur to witness its benefits firsthand. Her passion and commitment resonate as she emphasises that the effectiveness of Jigsimur goes beyond branding; it truly works and benefits millions.

Madame Grace, an ambassador of Jigsimur International and leader of the Great Success team, emphasises the importance of marketing and networking in business. She discusses the success of her team, highlighting their achievements, including the award of cars, which she attributes to their commitment and the reliability of their CEO, Dr Mrs Lilian Osuofia.

Grace in her remarks advises team members to remain focused and believe in their potential to attain financial stability and rewards, such as international trips and premium cars, through cumulative teamwork. She explains that the business model is based on product purchases and points accumulation, which provides financial returns beyond initial investments. Overall, she reinforces the idea that dedication and teamwork lead to success in Jigsimur's network marketing environment.

Amb. Dr Dame Faith, also known as Mother Eagle and leader of Eagle Team, expressed her awareness of the upcoming achievement awarded to her by the Jigsimur brand, which she attributed to hard work, not prayer alone. She highlighted the ongoing marketing initiative worth 5 million Naira, emphasising its effectiveness amidst the societal challenges and stress resulting from the current economic situation.

Dr Faith recommended Jigsimur, a product priced at 15,000 Naira, claiming it addresses various health issues, including cancer, HIV, fibroids, and prostate problems, challenging the belief that these conditions require surgical intervention. She cited numerous success stories, such as treating infertility, with her team witnessing multiple cases of triplets this year, 2023. Dr Faith also celebrated her achievements, as this marks her 14th award and 35th recognition in her field.

Qualifiers of the car reward and other accumulative rewards gave a personal narrative about their journey with Jigsimur, a business initiated by the CEO of the health organisation, Dr Lillian Dane Osuofia. A 23-year-old Ghanaian car award winner told prospectives that he utilised TikTok to promote the business for fun, facing teasing and mockery from peers but persevering despite the lack of immediate results.

He said In 2024, they became a registered distributor and began to see financial success, accumulating bonuses and encouraging their friends to participate. They invite the audience to support Jigsimur on social media, noting the company's growth and the support it brings.

He also reflects on the challenges faced, emphasising the importance of resilience, focus, and the impact of their work on lives, citing a quote about perseverance leading to fame and fortune.

Other beneficiaries who mounted the podium advocate for an unwavering commitment to Jigsimur, contrasting it with experiences from other businesses that promise success but do not deliver without effort.

Beneficiaries, both past and present, express gratitude for the opportunity provided by Jigsimur, highlighting its strength, integrity, and track record of success. They encourage others to remain dedicated and trust in the potential rewards of their efforts, celebrating the company's upcoming achievements and calling for unity in support of Jigsimur's mission. The narrative is characterised by a tone of encouragement and determination, advocating for perseverance in entrepreneurship and personal growth.

The highlights of the event include the cutting of the anniversary cake, music, and the presentation of the car rewards and cheques of N500,000 for the international trip qualifiers.

Why 680 out of 1000 convicts return to prison---- Comrade Palargian Olayemi

By Patience Ogbo

The Chief Executive Officer of Prison Rehabilitation and Law Abiding Organisation PRALARG International has called on the government to take urgent steps to curb recividim in the criminal justice system

Comrade Akinwumi stated this during a conference which had in attendance officials from the judiciary, police paramilitary personnel, non governmental organizations. Others in attendance include traditional , religious leaders, community leaders, private and members of the public.

He said " I deem it very important to address a critical issue confronting Nigeria’s criminal justice system—recidivism—and its broader implications for the society.

Every country in the world recognizes that the criminal justice system should not only punish but also rehabilitate and empower inmates. Unfortunately, in Nigeria, hundreds of individuals are discharged—either acquitted or after serving their sentence—without basic support, not even transport fare to return home. These are individuals who have often spent all their life savings on legal fees and have been stigmatized by family and society. Many of them face immediate threats to their survival outside prison, including lack of food and shelter.

Research indicates that recidivism is high among awaiting trial inmates. Studies show that out of 1,000 convicted individuals, about 680 will likely return to prison, highlighting a critical systemic issue. This rate is even higher when considering individuals awaiting trial.

Comrade Akinwumi revealed that the solution should involve a structured Reintegration Programs where government and correctional agencies provides discharged inmates with support packages that include transport, basic subsistence, vocational training, and micro-grants or startup funds.

Other areas to address include classification and segregation of Inmates based on the severity of their offences to minimize harmful interactions and prevent the formation of detrimental prison networks.
Also post-release monitoring and mentorship should involve an established formal aftercare system where ex-inmates are paired with mentors and social workers to guide their reintegration into society. Restrict inmate visitation to ensure discharged inmates not to maintain contact with individuals they met in prison, especially when these relationships could encourage criminal behaviour. Public-Private Partnership: Organisations like Pralarg International can complement government efforts by offering empowerment programs, but systemic, sustainable frameworks are essential.
The ethical responsibility of our correctional system extends beyond punishment. It requires deliberate, structured measures to empower, rehabilitate, and reintegrate inmates. Only through these measures can we break the cycle of crime and truly strengthen our society".

important to note that true rehabilitation is only possible when there is systematic reintegration and aftercare for released inmates. Pardons or annual government releases, while helpful, are insufficient on their own. Empowerment—through skills acquisition, financial support, mentorship, and social reintegration—is key to preventing recidivism.
Our experience shows that a significant number of these individuals were maliciously prosecuted or were unable to afford bail. Inside the correctional facilities, the absence of proper inmate classification forces minor offenders to interact with serious convicts. Over time, relationships are formed that resemble a hierarchy or apprenticeship, which, upon release, can increase the risk of returning to crime.

Speaking during the event, the Oyo state commissioner of police represented by ACP Olushola Oyewole congratulated PRALARG on thier 10th anniversary and calls for a more robust relationship between the police and human rights organisation.

The two days conference created opportunity for expert workshops and lectures, induction of new nembers, certificate awards to Paralegal graduates, stakeholders engagement, awards presentation to outstanding contributors including the launch of the Pralarg International Paralegal Training Manual.

Guests at the event included traditional and religious leaders, human Rights Organizations (Local & International , Non-Profit & Civil Society Groups justice, security & legal stakeholders, advocates, volunteers and change-makers and members of the public.

Ndigbo Buru'otu Association Visit Ighalo Orphanage Home, Give Charity

By Onome Naomi

The Ndigbo Buru'otu Association of Nigeria, with over 50 member representatives, on Thursday, November 27, 2025, paid Ighalo Orphanage Home a visit to show love to the children as part of the association's lined-up events of corporate social responsibility to give back to the society. The event of visiting orphanages is part of the association's goal done yearly, including catering for the widows and the less privileged in the society.

At this year's event, the association presented a variety of food items, drinks and other household items, accompanied by cash gifts, to the Ighalo Orphanage Home. The coordinator of the home, Mr Samuel Ogbonna, who warmly received the guests, expressed gratitude to the association for their goodwill. He noted that the orphanage home is organising an outreach where free eye tests, free reading glasses and other free medications will be given to attendees on the 13th of December, 2025, as he enjoined all those present to support the outreach and also benefit from the exercise.

Ogbonna commended the effort of the association in ensuring that they touched lives. He recounted how he met the founder of the Ndigbo Buru'otu Association of Nigeria, Eze (Amb) Dr Chika Nwokedi, and said he admires Eze Chika's tenacity and style of leadership, which includes his selfless service to humanity. Meanwhile, the children of the Ighalo Orphanage Home also appreciated the association's goodwill by praying for the givers.

High Chief Dr Owoh Anthony, the Ikuku Oma of the Ndigbo Buru Otu Association, emphasised that the Ndigbo Buru Otu Association is dedicated to helping the less privileged, including regular visits to orphanages over the past seven years. He expressed joy in fulfilling a divine command to assist those in need and urged other resource holders to emulate their charitable actions. He highlighted the importance of using wealth to uplift the weak, particularly in terms of education, advocating for support to help children with school fees. He believes that educating society contributes to its overall development.

Lolo Joy Nkemjika Udegbe, secretary of the charity committee for this year's outreach, emphasised the Ndigbo Buru'otu Association has a tradition of visiting orphanages annually. This year, they chose Ighalo Orphanage Home to connect with a nearby facility they had not previously visited. During the visit, they engaged with the children and received heartfelt prayers, which Udegbe noted as impactful for their lives and businesses. She expressed the importance of showing love and support to the orphaned children and encouraged individual efforts to visit and care for them, highlighting the emotional connection created when they are surrounded by caring adults.

Lolo Okeoma Nkiruka, Ugo Si Mba, a member of the Ndigbo Buru'otu Association, expressed her happiness after visiting an orphanage with the group led by Ambassador Dr Eze Chika Nwokedi. She observed members' emotional responses during the prayer session led by the orphanage children, stressing the significant impact of their visit on the children's well-being. Nkiru encouraged others with resources to emulate their example, highlighting the importance of leadership in fostering charitable activities. She credited their leader's compassionate nature for motivating the group to support the less privileged consistently over the past decade.

Ogbuefi Chibuike Oguegbe (DSP Okogba), chairman of the Widows and Motherless Foundation of the Ndigbo Buru'otu Association, expressed his satisfaction with his leadership role, which began two years ago when he was appointed by Eze Chika Nwokedi, the founder of the association. He noted that he also led a visit to the orphanage home, namely 'Charitas', last year and emphasised the importance of giving to the less privileged, advising that individuals should recognise the value of human resources and engage in acts of mercy. Oguegbe referenced biblical teachings about helping those in need, stressing that divine judgement focuses on compassion rather than material wealth. He expressed joy in witnessing the children's prayers, connecting it to a divine ideal of childlike faith.

Speaking with Eze Amb. Dr Chika Nwokedi, founder of the Ndigbo Buru'otu Association, he mentioned that the charity initiative towards orphans and the less privileged, including widows, has been ongoing for nearly a decade. He revealed this year's choice of blessing the children from Ighalo Orphanage Home is associated with ensuring orphanage homes situated around the environs of the Ndigbo Buru'otu establishment benefit from the goodwill offered by the association.

Eze Chika Nwokedi noted that since the establishment of the association, the association has initiated several events for its growth and development, such as a yearly night vigil prayer event observed every third Friday of November, visiting diverse orphanages annually with gifts such as food items and cash, recognition of eminent persons through awards events, and catering for the widows and less privileged in the society.

However, the association plans to celebrate its 10th anniversary next month with a distribution of aid to members of the association who are widows and widowers. Future endeavours include hosting an end-of-year party exclusively for members following substantial investments in building the association's Secretariat and community development, unlike every other anniversary where there is a planned awards event and many mouthwatering gifts.

Eze Nwokedi emphasises the importance of charitable acts, encouraging individuals and organisations to contribute to the less fortunate, as these actions align with divine principles of compassion and generosity.

The association has accomplished a number of things over the years, such as helping hospitalised patients who lacked funds for treatment or aftercare, saving a stranded mother of triplets who was unable to pay hospital bills after giving birth, assisting out-of-school children in returning to school, providing loans and grants to members with zero interest and no collateral, and more.

Sponsors of the visit include CHIEF OKOGBA, PG EZE NWOKEDI, CHIEF OGBUKA, CHIEF MARTINS, MR OSITA OKEKE, PST NONSO OSUJI, OKWUDIR OBIOHA, CHIEF OBI CHIBUEZE, CHIEF OBI TOCHUKWU, CHIEF UGOCHUKWU GABRIEL, CHIEF PRINCWILL, AKUBUEZE HENRY, SP LORITA, OZOEMENE NGENE, LOLO IFEOMA, IKECHUKWU OZURUMBA, HIGH CHIEF EBEM, UGOEZE MMIRIOMA, MRS UTUTO, ONYINYE OLORUNTOLA, CHIEF & LOLO UDEGBE, CHIEF UCHENNA NWAFOR, ONYEKWE, JOHN EZEKIEL, CHIEF MRS ADA ODILI, LOLO NKIRU OKEOMA, MMADU ENEKWIZU, IFEANYI NNADIKA, AMAKA NWAKAIRE, EBERECHUKWU OKPETA, CHINONSO OSUJI, IYELE MARCEL, AMAKA NWAFOR and 40 others.

Legislating Silence: Why Nigeria Must Listen to Women in efforts to reduce Maternal Mortality

By Naomi Onome

A Crisis We Cannot Ignore
Nigeria is facing a maternal health crisis of staggering proportions. With 993 deaths per 100,000 live births, the country has one of the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. Unsafe abortion is a major contributor, accounting for nearly 40% of maternal deaths according to public health experts. Yet, when the issue comes before lawmakers, the voices of women most affected are often silenced.

This silence is not accidental. It is the product of entrenched gender inequality, stigma, and a political culture that sidelines women's lived experiences. The result is devastating policies that fail to protect women, perpetuate unsafe practices, and reinforce cycles of suffering.

When Women Speak, They Are Silenced
In recent Senate debates, Senator Natasha AkpotiUduaghan raised concerns about how restrictive laws disproportionately harm women. Instead of engaging with her arguments, she was ruled “out of order.” This moment symbolised a broader reality: female lawmakers face systemic barriers to shaping policies that directly impact women’s health.

When women’s perspectives are dismissed, the consequences are not abstract. They translate into preventable deaths, broken families, and communities left to mourn young lives cut short.
Stories Behind the Statistics
Numbers alone cannot capture the human cost of unsafe abortion. Behind every statistic is a story of desperation, stigma, and resilience.

Bimpe, a 16-year-old schoolgirl, died after an unsafe abortion. Her family, fearing stigma, attributed her death to typhoid.
Bolu, 19, sought an abortion due to poverty and fear of societal judgment. A clandestine procedure left her in pain and trauma.

Ngozi, a successful businesswoman, faced guilt and emotional turmoil after an abortion, showing stigma cuts across class.

Bisi, 24, resorted to unlicensed pills because healthcare providers were judgmental, risking her life.

These stories are not isolated. They reflect a national crisis where stigma, poverty, and lack of access push women into unsafe procedures. Research estimates that over 610,000 unsafe abortions occur annually in Nigeria, disproportionately affecting young women aged 15–24.
The Consequence of Legislative Silence
When lawmakers ignore women’s voices, their craft policies detached from reality.

This silence perpetuates:

Gender inequality: Women's lived experiences are excluded from decisionmaking.

Unsafe practices: Restrictive laws push women toward clandestine procedures.
Maternal mortality: Nigeria’s already high rates are worsened by preventable deaths.
The silence is not neutral. It is deadly.
Why Representation Matters
Representation is not symbolic; it is lifesaving. When women participate meaningfully in policymaking, laws are more responsive to real needs. Studies across Africa show that countries with higher female representation in parliament adopt more inclusive health policies. Nigeria cannot afford to ignore this evidence.

Breaking the Stigma

Stigma is one of the most powerful forces driving unsafe abortion. Women fear judgment from families, communities, and even healthcare providers. This fear pushes them into secrecy, often with fatal consequences.

Breaking stigma requires:

Community dialogue: Open conversations about reproductive health.
Faith based engagement: Reframing narratives within religious communities.

Media advocacy: Sharing stories that humanize women’s experiences.
Pathways to Change

Civil society organisation, NGOs and other advocates propose concrete steps:

Inclusive policymaking: Women, healthcare providers, and community leaders must shape laws.

Access to safe abortion services: Expand availability in lowresource settings.
Comprehensive sexuality education: Equip young people with knowledge on contraception and reproductive rights.

Support systems: Provide medical care, counselling, and social services for women affected by unsafe abortion.

Global Lessons

Nigeria is not alone in facing this challenge. Countries like Ethiopia and South Africa have reduced maternal mortality by expanding access to safe abortion and reproductive health services. Their experiences show that inclusive policies save lives. Nigeria can learn from these models while tailoring solutions to its cultural and social context.

The Promise of Inclusion

Adopting inclusive approaches can:
Reduce maternal mortality rates.
Increase access to safe services.
Decrease stigma, Improve overall health outcomes for women and girls.
Most importantly, amplifying women’s voices ensures that policies reflect lived realities rather than abstract debates.

Call to Action

Nigeria cannot afford legislative silence. Policymakers must:

Listen to women: Their experiences are essential to crafting effective laws.
Engage communities: Dialogue reduces stigma and builds support.
Invest in health systems: Safe, accessible services save lives.

Champion education: Knowledge empowers young people to make informed choices. The cost of inaction is measured in lives lost. The benefit of action is a healthier, more just society.

Conclusion: A Society That Values Women
The fight against maternal mortality is not just about health; it is about justice, dignity, and equality. Nigeria must prioritise the voices of women, not silence them. Only then can we build a society that values the health and well-being of all individuals. The time for silence is over. The time for inclusion is now.

Winners Emerge as UCMAS Engages Over 1000 Students at the 6th National Competition 2025

...as UCMAS rewards students for outstanding performance.

By Naomi Onome

Over a thousand students participated in the UCMAS 6th National Competition on Saturday, November 22, 2025. A child development programme called UCMAS (Universal Concept of Mental Arithmetic System) employs mental math and the abacus to help kids ages 4 to 13 improve cognitive abilities like focus, memory, and problem-solving.

The competition, which has been held yearly since 2020 after the launching of UCMAS in Nigeria in October 2015, is an assessment for children of primary school education and registered with the UCMAS programme to perform calculations using an abacus and then to visualise the beads mentally to solve problems quickly and accurately, leading to increased confidence and overall brain development. The programme, which originated in Malaysia in 1993, is an abacus-based mental development system designed to help children improve their concentration, memory, and mathematical skills. It is practised in over 80 countries worldwide.

According to the country director of UCMAS, John Kwabu, the UCMAS competition, initiated in Nigeria in 2020, presents an annual opportunity for children participating in the UCMAS programme to showcase their achievements in various cognitive skills, primarily focused on enhancing their intelligence through activities that promote memory retention, listening skills, concentration, and multitasking. Moreover, he said the programme serves as a brain development initiative that not only aims to improve cognitive abilities but also enhances the economic proficiency of children.

However, John stated that significant progress has been made since the launch of UCMAS in Nigeria, with the program expanding from Lagos to include participation from eight states, which are Lagos, Oyo, Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Kaduna, Ekiti, and others. The goal is to further extend the programme's reach into the eastern regions of Nigeria, allowing more children to engage in the competition and benefit from the programme's offerings. Currently, over a thousand schools across these states are involved in the UCMAS programme, with ongoing plans to include more institutions that have yet to participate.

In reference to the history of UCMAS in the diaspora, John revealed that the programme began in Malaysia in 1993 and later extended to Ghana in 2007 and has become an international educational initiative, fostering cognitive development across different continents, with Nigeria being a vital part of its growth since its establishment in 2015.

Mrs Akingbade Nofisat, the proprietress of Great Standard Montessori Modern School, Abeokuta, of the States, during an interview with the press, said that the UCMAS concept has made a significant impact on the educational approach of a school that started four years ago. When the school expanded to include an elementary section, the need for a stimulating and engaging programme for children led to the adoption of the UCMAS concept, which focuses on enhancing mental alertness. The positive results from this programme, she said, have been evident, as many students have excelled in cognitive development since its introduction into the school curriculum.

Nofisat noted that her school is participating in the competition for the first time and affirmed she's optimistic and confident in the training programme coordinated by UCMAS in Nigeria for children of diverse institutions. She expressed gratitude towards the organisers of the event for their commendable work in supporting Nigerian children's mental development. Urge the organisers to continue their efforts, recognising the transformative effects the programme has had on improving children's mental reading abilities.

To participating students, the advice is to perceive the competition as an opportunity for personal growth rather than a mere contest. Nofisat emphasises the importance of learning from peers in other schools and urges students to remain committed to their skills, reinforcing the idea that everyone has the potential to be a champion. The message is clear: students should persist in their efforts and strive for improvement, making the most of their experiences with the UC Mass programme to achieve future successes, she said.

Stephanie Osugo, a parent from Bloomfield Elementary School, expresses her support for the UC Maths programme, which she believes significantly enhances children's mathematical abilities. Having had her son participate since the program's inception, she notes that it allows children to perform mental calculations rapidly, making them unafraid of numbers. Osugo highlights that the programme's success spans beyond primary education and urges the government to ensure equal opportunities for children in public schools to participate in such competitions, stressing the importance of relevant subjects in the curriculum. She criticises the current educational system for not embracing innovative methods and emphasises that skills learnt through UCMAS are essential for understanding concepts in technology and everyday life.

Mary Oluwaboye, the Ogun State Area Coordinator/Manager for UCMAS in Nigeria, explains that public schools are currently not involved in the UC Maths programme because the Nigerian government has not adopted it, with only private schools participating. She advocates for government adoption of the programme, emphasising its benefits for brain development and maximising children's potential. She stated that, since UC Maths began in Nigeria nearly a decade ago, it has trained many children, including those who previously struggled academically, leading to significant improvements in their performance. Oluwaboye urges the government to consider incorporating UC Maths into the school curriculum, noting that other West African countries have successfully done so and benefited from it.

Oluwaboye reiterates that the average human brain has the potential capacity equivalent to 1,000 to 10,000 to store information, yet individuals typically utilise only 2 to 3% of it during their lifetime. Exposure to programmes like UC Maths, which has trained around five million children globally and for about ten years in Nigeria, can help children maximise their potential. Success stories Oluwaboye recounted include previously slow learners who excel academically after participating in the programme, with improved focus, speed, accuracy, and overall proficiency in subjects, leading to achievements such as studying medicine.

The highlights of this year's event included the puzzle game where students find the given words in the puzzle, listening calculations where winners from diverse schools emerged, question and answer segments built around current affairs and other exciting events.

Participating schools include Millhouse School (Lagos State), City Pride School (Lagos State), Gemseed Academy (Lagos), Pak's Model School, Jewels and Pearls, Mayor's School, Gopherwood School, Gemcare School, Royal Hall, All Joy School, Louisville School, Joyville School, Bodija Centre, Rich Gate School, GSM School, Yolad Montessori, Bloomseed School, Juniper Hill School, Yaba Centre, St Leo Centre, Corona School Gbagada, and others...

Winners emerge from various schools from the puzzle game, abacus and mental math calculations. Current affairs questions which focus on general knowledge also had winners from participating schools.

CrimePolice Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere Rejects Igp's Order Of Probe Over Alleged Mis by onochurch(op): 12:46am On Nov 25, 2025
Police Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere rejects IGP's order of probe over alleged misconduct, murder attempt and land grabbing.

By Nkiru Gabriel

Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere, a serving officer attached to the Strike Force Squad at Zone 2 Command in Lagos, has rejected an invitation from the Inspector General of Police, following allegations of gross misconduct against him.

Insp. Ifeanyi Onyekwere, a serving police officer of the Strike Force Squad at Zone 2 Command in Lagos, is accused of teaming up with a known land‑grabber, Akeem Ajakaye, to try to kill the landowner Kolawole Oluakamo and seize four plots worth over ₦40 million in Ojo, Lagos.

Onyekwere allegedly conspired with Ajakaye to assault Oluakamo, using weapons and later destroying the property’s foundation to build on the land. On 23 September 2025, armed men beat Oluakamo severely; he is now critically ill in an undisclosed hospital.

Apart from an attempt on the victim's life, Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere and Akeem Ajakaye are accused of illegally seizing and destroying the foundation of a piece of land that the victim, Oluakamo, has lawfully tended for over a decade. The property, which consists of four plots, was reportedly targeted earlier this year when Inspector Onyekwere allegedly allied with local land thugs, known as "omo onile", and family heads to forcibly take control of it.

Oluakamo claims that Akeem Ajakaye, the family head, conspired with the police officer to eliminate him. The situation escalated dramatically on September 23, 2025, when armed men allegedly ambushed and assaulted Oluakamo, issuing severe threats to deter him from approaching the land, warning that failure to comply could result in death.

Following the conduct of Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere, the complainant wrote a petition to the IGP, who directed the Public Complaint Unit to invite Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere for an interview at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, but he refused to go for the interview after repeated reminders by the Force Headquarters.

He reportedly refused to travel to Abuja, insisting any interview be held in Lagos, and transferred the case to the Force Headquarters Annexe in Kam Salem, where evidence was allegedly tampered with, having discovered the substantial evidence against him, despite the ongoing investigation. During the transfer, an officer named Obi Stanley reportedly confiscated Oluakamo's phone, deleted critical recorded evidence, and made threats to imprison him following a contentious dispute with his legal counsel.

However, Zone 2 Command confirmed the officer is under investigation, and the Assistant Inspector‑General of Police (AIG) for Zone 2, Adegoke Fayoade, has been notified. Moreover, the Centre for Human and Socio‑Economic Rights (CHSR) condemned the incident as a gross abuse of police authority, calling for an independent probe and the officer’s suspension pending inquiry.

The Police Public Relation Officer of Zone 2 Command, CSP Ayuba Umma, confirmed the case and noted that the officer involved is currently under investigation.

“The concerned police officer, Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwene, is under investigation over the matter. We are aware and remain committed to upholding professional conduct among our officers,” Ayuba stated.

She disclosed that the officer had been invited by the Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2, Mr Adegoke Fayoade, and she was aware that Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere had been invited for an interview at the Force headquarters in Abuja.

However, the PPRO is not aware that Inspector Ifeanyi Onyekwere has refused to go to the Inspector General of Police for the interview.

Meanwhile, findings at the Survey Department revealed that the land in question, as registered at Alausa Secretariat, belongs to Mrs Ibiyemi.

The matter remains under investigation, with no convictions reported yet.

PoliticsHuman Rights Advocate Counters Primate Elijah Ayodele Over Malicious Assertion O by onochurch(op): 11:38pm On Nov 20, 2025
Human Rights Advocate Counters Primate Elijah Ayodele Over Malicious Assertion on Ndigbo

...says his statement promotes hate speech that can trigger tribal war and resentment.

By Naomi Onome

In response to the assertion that Igbos are cursed made by Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, questions the basis of this claim, highlighting the tribe's historical resilience and current success despite past adversities, such as receiving only 20 pounds after a war.

Iche, in his statement, demands clarification on how Primate Elijah Ayodele, who positions himself as a prophet, justifies labelling the Igbos as a problem of Nigeria. Iche further criticises the security agencies for their selective enforcement, noting that if an Igbo individual had made a similar statement, they would likely face immediate investigations, whereas Primate's comments go unchallenged.

Iche argues that such statements constitute hate speech and could incite tribal conflict, calling for appropriate action from the authorities to address the inflammatory nature of Primate Ayodele's remarks and seek an explanation for the claims made against the Igbo community.

He also said,

It's frustrating when people make claims without basis, especially when it can incite harm or division. The Igbo people's history and achievements are a testament to their resilience and determination.

My question to Primate Ayodele is:

What's the biblical basis for claiming Igbos are cursed? How does he reconcile his statement with the Igbo people's achievements and contributions to Nigeria? Is he aware that his words can be perceived as hate speech and incite tribal tensions?

The security agencies should indeed investigate and invite the pastor to explain his statement, as it's seen as promoting tribal war and hate speech against the Igbo tribe.

As a self-acclaimed prophet, he must have some Igbo worshippers in his church. How exactly does he feel after such statements against the Igbos? Is he also about to cause segregation in his ministry?

ANPMP Ogun State Strengthens Opposition to Quackery and Promotes Public Safety

By Naomisophyblog

The Association of Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (ANPMP), Ogun State Chapter, once again calls the attention of the Ogun State Government and the general public to the escalating menace of quackery threatening the safety of our citizens. The association remains firmly committed to defending the integrity of medical practice and protecting the lives of the people of Ogun State.

Over the past few months, ANPMP has followed several disturbing cases involving individuals impersonating medical doctors and carrying out dangerous, illegal medical procedures. These include:

• The convicted quack was recently sentenced to four years in prison for a failed hernia surgery that endangered a patient’s life;

• The fraudulent impersonator who deceived patients and authorities by posing as a licensed doctor, and

• The recent shocking case of a quack who employs qualified doctors to lend false legitimacy to his unlawful operations.

These alarming incidents demonstrate how deeply quackery has infiltrated our health system and the urgent need to restore sanity.

It has come to our attention that many of these quacks are Community Health Officers (CHOs) who have been wrongly permitted by the Ogun State Ministry of Health to register and operate health facilities, despite this being contrary to the Ogun State Private Health Institutions Registration and Regulation Edict.

For clarity, the Edict clearly provides that:

• Only registered medical practitioners may own and operate hospitals, and

• Only registered nurses may operate maternity homes or clinics.

Any attempt, direct or indirect, to alter this law to include unqualified cadres such as CHOs is unlawful, unethical, and dangerous. The ANPMP warns that such a move would undermine public trust, compromise patient safety, and further endanger lives.

Challenge to the Ministry of Health

The ANPMP Ogun State Chapter hereby challenges the Ogun State Ministry of Health to immediately reverse this unlawful decision that allows CHOs and other unqualified persons to own and operate health facilities in the state.

We call on the Ministry to shut down all such illegally registered facilities without delay and to enforce compliance with the existing Edict. The Ministry, more than anyone else, should know that when you give these people an inch, they take a mile, and that no effective monitoring framework exists to control their excesses.

Our field investigations across Ogun State have revealed that there is hardly any male CHO operating a facility who does not impersonate a doctor or engage in procedures far beyond their training and professional competence.

The consequences are tragic:

• The so-called “Dr Afeez” recently sentenced to four years’ imprisonment for performing surgeries on innocent people is a CHEW;

• The fake doctor now in court for running an unregistered facility where multiple surgical patients were found is also a CHEW;

• The facility in Owode-Idiroko, where a surgery last year led to the loss of a patient’s life, is owned and run by a Community Health Officer (CHO) — yet it is back in operation again.

These killer centres must be shut down immediately. All cadres of healthcare workers must be made to operate strictly within the scope of their training, certification, and the laws of the land.

Our people are the victims — we all are the victims — as it is now increasingly difficult to distinguish genuine doctors from impostors in Ogun State. We can no longer continue to allow unqualified persons to open health facilities for financial gain and sacrifice our people on the altar of greed.

Clarification of the Law and Scope of Practice for CHOs and CHEWs

It is important to restate the provisions of the Community Health Practitioners (Registration, etc.) Act, CAP C19, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, which establishes the Community Health Practitioners Board of Nigeria and defines the scope of duties of Community Health Officers (CHOs) and Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs).

According to the Act, CHOs and CHEWs are trained primarily to provide preventive, promotive, and limited curative services at the primary healthcare level, under the supervision of a registered medical practitioner. They are not authorised to own, operate, or manage hospitals, surgical centres, or other secondary health facilities.

In the same vein, the Ogun State Private Health Institutions Registration and Regulation Edict (1988) expressly stipulates that only registered medical practitioners may own and operate hospitals, while registered nurses may operate maternity or nursing homes.

Therefore, any attempt to register or license CHOs or CHEWs as proprietors of private health facilities stands in direct violation of both federal and state laws and must be reversed immediately.

Call to State Leadership and Well-Meaning Citizens

We hereby call on the Governor of Ogun State, the Honourable Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, all political leaders, community leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society organisations, and well-meaning persons across Ogun State to join us to stop this mindless slaughter.

We cannot predict who the next victim will be. United action is required now to protect our communities and restore safety to the state’s healthcare system.

Warning to Doctors

The ANPMP Ogun State Chapter also wishes to warn all medical doctors in Ogun State and across Nigeria to desist from lending their professional identity or acting as “supervising doctors” for CHOs or any unqualified persons seeking to register health facilities.

Any doctor currently engaged in such unethical arrangements is hereby given four (4) weeks to withdraw from such agreements and formally notify the Ministry of Health of their withdrawal.

Failure to comply will attract serious disciplinary action. The ANPMP will not hesitate to report any erring doctor to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for prosecution before the Disciplinary Tribunal, in line with the Code of Medical Ethics in Nigeria. Sanctions may include suspension or delisting from the medical register.

The ANPMP reaffirms its commitment to work with the Ogun State Government, the Ministry of Health, law enforcement agencies, and the general public to eliminate quackery, restore confidence in the healthcare system, and protect the lives of our people.

The health and safety of our citizens must never be compromised.
