Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima (OmoBarca) Joins ADC, Declares House of Reps Ambition in Ajeromi-Ifelodun

By Naomisophyblog

Lagos, September 13, 2025

The political landscape of Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency has taken a new turn with the formal defection of Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The event, which drew a large crowd of party faithful, community leaders, and supporters, was held in Ajeromi-Ifelodun on Saturday, September 13, 2025.

The ceremony was graced by prominent national figures, including the National Secretary of the ADC, Hon. Rauf Aregbesola, and Hon. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, the 2023 Lagos State governorship candidate. Their presence underscored the significance of OmoBarca’s entry into the party and the party’s broader ambition to expand its influence in Lagos State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking at the event, OmoBarca declared his intention to contest for the House of Representatives seat representing Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency. He emphasized that his political aspiration is driven by a deep commitment to empowering the people of his constituency, improving grassroots development, and ensuring that federal representation translates into tangible benefits for his constituents.

I am stepping into this race with the sole aim of empowering my people in Ajeromi-Ifelodun,” he stated. “I want to see a constituency where youths have access to jobs and skills, women are supported in business, and children have better access to education. That is the kind of representation I intend to bring to Abuja.

In a candid remark, OmoBarca also appealed to political opponents to allow the will of the people to prevail at the polls, rather than resorting to post election litigations. He stressed that his ambition is rooted in service and urged for fair competition.

I want to win this election on the strength of the people’s support. I don’t want any contestant to drag me to court if I emerge victorious. Let us respect the mandate of the electorate and focus on building our communities together, he said.

His Excellency. Rauf Aregbesola, while welcoming OmoBarca into the ADC family, described him as a grassroots politician with proven philanthropy and a track record of community service. He assured party members that OmoBarca’s entry would strengthen the ADC’s chances in Lagos State, particularly in Ajeromi-Ifelodun, which has long been a political stronghold of other major parties.

On his part, Hon. Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour praised OmoBarca’s courage and consistency in advocating for community empowerment. He urged residents of Ajeromi-Ifelodun to rally behind the ADC candidate, adding that credible representation at the National Assembly is crucial for grassroots development.

The event also witnessed the formal inauguration of OmoBarca’s campaign team, with hundreds of supporters pledging loyalty to his candidacy. Party members described his move as a “game-changer” that could redefine electoral outcomes in the constituency.

As the 2027 general elections draw closer, political analysts suggest that OmoBarca’s entry into the ADC could introduce a fresh dimension to the political dynamics of Ajeromi-Ifelodun, where competition for the House of Representatives seat has traditionally been fierce.

With his popularity at the grassroots, combined with the backing of national party leaders, OmoBarca’s declaration sets the stage for an intriguing contest in one of Lagos State’s most politically vibrant constituencies.

CP Austins Akika, who goes by many titles, including Nwanedinamba of Alimosho, Ebubedike of Alagbado, Otunba Jagunmolu of Shasha and Egbeda, The Akinrogun of Meiran, and an Ambassador of Peace by the UN, amongst other titles, noted that the 'Kampe' herbal drink and the Ruzu Herbal Bitters' efficacy cannot be underemphasised, as he recommends the Ruzu range of products for all.

During the courtesy visit, the retired commissioner advised that Ruzu as a company should increase visibility in their marketing strategy, stressing the need for easy accessibility of the Ruzu range of herbal products for intending consumers, while he commended their advertising prowess.

Speaking about challenges as a business owner, he told Dr Uzu that,

"The Bible emphasises the importance of love and giving to others, but it also emphasises the need to limit trust levels. People often want to put down those who are doing well, but God has always been with them."

"As said earlier, it is important to have good marketers and a clear gap between you, the CEO, and the workers to prevent betrayal. I am emphasising the importance of maintaining goodwill and avoiding betrayal in the face of challenges."

"It is challenging to find genuine advice in the African settings, where progress is a problem. Your progress to some persons is the only crime committed; in other words, be cautious of your doings, be vigilant with your environment, do not compare yourself with any competitive brand, be your own person, run at your pace but consistently, and be at your best.

In acknowledgement of the goodwill message, Dr Uzu Onyemaechi Robert reassured of his commitment to move the brand forward. He enjoined the voices of CP Austins Akika and Prince Emeka Ani to tell the public that Ruzu Herbal Bitters, Ruzu Herbal Balm, Ruzu Black for Men, Ruzu Prostate Care, Ruzu Herbal Tea, Ruzu Herbal Soap and other Ruzu products are game changers for Nigerians who suffer from prolonged health issues and need a potent solution.

HealthWASPEN Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025 Seeks To Address Hospital Malnutrition A by onochurch(op): 7:51pm On Sep 08, 2025
WASPEN Malnutrition Awareness Week 2025 seeks to address hospital malnutrition as a silent epidemic

By Naomi Onome

Dr Teresa I. Pounds, the founder of the West African Society of Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (WASPEN), during a press conference on Monday, September 8, officially ushered in the 'Malnutrition Awareness Week' for 2025 as she highlighted the pressing issue of malnutrition in West Africa, particularly in Nigeria, emphasising its prevalence in both community and hospital settings.

This year's theme, "United Against Malnutrition", is championed by ASPEN's International Clinical Nutrition Section, in reminder that malnutrition is not a challenge for one nation or one hospital—it is a shared responsibility requiring a collective action. WASPEN is focusing on the urgent issue of hospital malnutrition at its Malnutrition Awareness Week for 2025.

The week-at-a-glance includes expert-led webinars on optimising patient care through standardised clinical nutrition protocols and addressing "United Against Malnutrition: Integrating Clinical Nutrition Care into Healthcare Systems". Institution-specific events across Nigeria and West Africa will turn this campaign into meaningful local action while also seeking national data on hospital malnutrition prevalence with Nigerian institutions.

Dr Teresa Pounds reiterated that hospitalised patients are particularly vulnerable due to underlying illnesses, socioeconomic factors, and limited access to adequate nutrition. Globally, estimates suggest that between 20% and 50% of hospitalised patients suffer from malnutrition. In Nigeria, there are high rates of malnutrition reported among hospitalised children, with studies showing rates ranging between 30% and 45%.

She further said,

"In Nigeria, over 30% of children are stunted, and about 7% are wasted. These numbers reflect deep-rooted challenges but also show why a holistic approach is essential. WASPEN is working with a leading Nigerian institution to gather updated national data on hospital malnutrition prevalence, which will guide their efforts in pushing for hospital nutrition to become part of structured national strategies."

"Also, 30-45% of patients (surgical, paediatric, and oncology patients) in tertiary hospitals are malnourished; 41.2% of under-five children in Nasarawa showed global malnutrition, while 71.3% of hospitalised elderly patients in Enugu were malnourished. However, the impact of hospital malnutrition varies; it can lead to delayed wound healing, increased infections, prolonged hospital stays, higher mortality, potential readmissions, and others."

To create awareness, Dr Pounds said last year's event had seven institutions across all six geopolitical zones in participation and created a national impact through clinical engagement and media outreach. In 2025, the momentum has grown as 17 institutions are officially on board, and for the first time, Cameroon and Ghana joined—reflecting a stronger regional commitment.

She stated that,

"WASPEN's launch of the 2025 Malnutrition Awareness Week with the theme 'United Against Malnutrition', collaboration with ASPEN (American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition), and partnership with the Federal Ministry of Health through the Ministry's Director of Nutrition Mrs Ladidi Bako-Aiyegbusi, affirm the government and stakeholders' partnership and commitment that must translate into policy and action."

"For this course, WASPEN is privileged to work with international colleagues from ASPEN: Dr Phil Ayers, past president and current board member, and Dr Albert Barrocas, board member. Their presence highlights the strength of WASPEN's partnership with ASPEN and affirms West Africa's growing role in the global nutrition care conversation."

Urge Nigerian leaders to prioritise hospital nutrition in healthcare strategies; advocate for collaboration among West African societies, institutions and partners; stress a team approach involving dietitians, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals; and highlight the need for qualified professionals with appropriate training. Urges all to unite against malnutrition—community and hospital alike—and affirm that nutrition is a human right.

Added that WASPEN as a body commends the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the Federal Ministry of Health, and all nutrition-focused organisations for their tireless efforts in tackling community malnutrition. However, they must also recognise that malnutrition is a holistic challenge and must be brought into the spotlight. WASPEN, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, is ensuring that hospital malnutrition is not left behind.

Dr Teresa also acknowledged the challenges of limited dietitians in the region and called for capacity building, evidence generation, and national adoption of clinical nutrition strategies. She, however, underscores the interconnectedness of community and hospital malnutrition, pushing for holistic action against the "silent epidemic".

Other partners' and stakeholders' input emphasised the aims and objectives of WASPEN and suggested that to improve nutrition in Nigeria, people should be enlightened on the use of locally available and indigenous foods in each region, with subsidies for food and transportation. Additionally, a kitchen or restaurant should be established in hospitals for indigenous admitted malnourished children to provide adequate diets.

PoliticsCouncil of Ndi'Eze Igbo congratulates the new leaders of the Igbo-speaking commu by onochurch(op):
Council of Ndi'Eze Igbo congratulates the new leaders of the Igbo-speaking community.

...says it's a new era of peace and unity

By Naomi Onome

The Council of Ndi Eze Igbo congratulates Chief Sunday Udeh on his recent appointment as the President General of the Igbo-Speaking Community. Following a lengthy period of conflict between two factions, High Chief Sunday Eze stepped down as President General voluntarily in order to ensure peace and unity among the Ndigbo in Lagos.

The chairman of the Ndi Eze Igbo council, Eze Chika Nwokedi, who took part in and oversaw the reconciliation of these groups to foster Igbo unity, expressed his gratitude to former PG High Chief Sunday Eze for listening to counsel and letting peace prevail.

The inaugural event of Chief Sunday Udeh and other executives took place in Lagos on Sunday, September 14th, 2025, and had critical stakeholders in attendance. To this course, the council of Ndi Eze Igbo heartily passes across a congratulatory message to the new executives.

Eze (Amb) Dr Chika C. Nwokedi, Eze Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu, Ezendigbo Ijegun Ijeododo, and Chairman of the Council of Ndi Eze Igbo, and HRH Igwe Dr Ferdinand Aguneke, PhD (General Secretary) of the Council of Ndieze-Igbo Lagos State, congratulate Chief Sunday Udeh on behalf of the council. The congratulatory message to Chief Sunday Udeh reads,

"It gives me great pleasure to congratulate Chief Sunday Udeh, the President General of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, and the distinguished members of the recently established EXCO on a new era that will elevate our shared aspirations to a new height."

"In order to fulfil the founding fathers' expectations, I am confident that the new Igbo-speaking community leadership would bring about a community free from animosity and self-interest conflicts."

"Wishing the new executives a successful tenure."

On behalf of Ndi'Eze Igbo, Eze Chika Nwokedi noted that the council is pleased that the Igbo-speaking community has once again found harmony. He added that the new Chief Sunday Udeh administration should avoid granting Eze-ship titles arbitrarily to interested parties who are not Igbo-speaking members. In other words, there should be no giving of the Eze-ship title indiscriminately.

He advises maintaining the newly discovered peace stealthily and prays that the Igbo-speaking community won't be split apart again.

He added that the Igbo-speaking community should also get an account for the organisation, and any further levies should be paid into the organisation's account rather than an individual's personal account, for this is a more standard procedure to move Igbo speaking forward.

In his plea for peace, Eze Chika Nwokedi also praised the Board of Trustees, the electoral committee, and stakeholders for their various contributions to guaranteeing a credible outcome of the event. Advised Ndigbo to abide by state laws; urged the Lagos State Government to uphold its interests in the Igbo-speaking community as promised.

CrimeChapel Symposium calls for legal and religious  Reforms to address child abuse i by onochurch(op): 3:52pm On Aug 29, 2025
Chapel Symposium Calls for Legal and Religious  Reforms to Address Child Abuse in Nigeria

By Naomisophyblog

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, has called for stronger collaboration between religious leaders, legal institutions, and communities to address the growing crisis of child abuse in Nigeria.

This came during the Chapel’s special symposium on child abuse, held as part of its 2025 Press Week in Lagos. The event was themed “Breaking the Silence: Strengthening Child Protection in Nigeria.”

Faith Leaders Urged to Go Beyond Prosperity Preaching

Delivering the keynote address on behalf of His Eminence, Primate Elijah Babatunde Ayodele, Founder of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Prof. Rosemary Isibor charged churches and faith-based institutions to expand their ministry beyond prosperity preaching and engage more directly in the fight against abuse.

“The church must go under the bridges and into communities, not remain confined within its walls. Sermons should not only focus on making money, buying cars, or travelling abroad. Abuse prevention must be part of regular messages in our churches,” Prof. Rosemary said.

She added:

“We must create safe spaces for children and survivors to speak out. It is wrong to tell victims that reporting abuse will bring shame to their families. Silence only protects the abuser.”

She also cautioned against harmful enemy-focused preaching, stressing that “even Jesus was killed by enemies, yet He never preached about killing them.”

Legal Disconnect Between Law and Reality

Guest speaker Barr. Osegie Queen Oniwon, Esq., a child rights lawyer, described the situation as a “legal disconnect” — noting that while Nigeria has comprehensive child protection laws, enforcement remains weak.

She explained that Nigeria has domesticated the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child through the Child Rights Act, with Lagos State leading efforts since 2007. Yet, children still face systemic neglect.

“Our constitution guarantees life, dignity, and freedom from discrimination, but the problem is weak enforcement agencies — the police, judiciary, and social workers,” Oniwon said.

She continued:

“Children are still being held in adult prisons due to inadequate juvenile justice systems. Poverty forces many into child labour and street begging disguised as religious practice. Gender discrimination against girls and abuse in religious settings continue unchecked.”

She recommended immediate strengthening of enforcement, public awareness campaigns, and expanded social safety nets. In the long term, she said, Nigeria must make education free at all levels, restore community-based child support systems, and include children in civic processes like state assemblies and children’s parliaments.

Root Causes of Child Abuse: Silence, Stigma, and Societal Influence

The panel discussion, moderated by Fanayajo Ranti, examined the cultural and systemic roots of child abuse. Panellists included Comrade Abraham Akpan, Prof. Rosemary Isibor, Comrade Rabiu Idris, Comrade Osiris Chinonye, Mrs Victoria Fawi, and Barr. Osegie Queen Oniwon, Esq.

They identified the most prevalent forms of abuse as physical violence, sexual exploitation (including cases involving children as young as four years old), child labour, early marriage, and neglect.

According to the panel, cultural practices, generational cycles of abuse, and gender stereotyping contribute to the problem. Religious misinterpretations and weak government policies also play a role.

“Child abuse has always existed in Nigeria, but today it is more visible because people now have phones, cameras, and social media to expose it,” one of the panelists noted.

The discussants warned that abuse is often normalised under the guise of “discipline” or “tradition”, while victims are silenced by threats, stigma, and intimidation.

Call to Action

At the close of the symposium, the NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel urged stakeholders to break the culture of silence surrounding child abuse and ensure stronger protection systems for children.

The Chapel’s Chairman, Comrade Abraham Akpabio, said the event underscored the urgent need for collective action.

“We must amplify this campaign for a Nigeria where every child is safe, heard, and protected. It is our duty as journalists, leaders, and citizens to confront these realities and work together for change,” Akpabio said.

The symposium formed part of NUJ Lagos Correspondents’ Chapel’s Press Week, with participants drawn from the media, legal sector, civil society, and religious institutions.

The entire programme was put together and moderated by Amb. Oluwapelumi Oluwayomi of Societal Concerns, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Titilayo Ilebani, a correspondent with NigeriaUpdates.

EventsCouple Celebrates 24 Years Of Love And Marriage In Grandeur by onochurch(op): 3:07am On Aug 27, 2025
Couple celebrates 24 years of love and marriage in grandeur

...as Pst. Dr Tessy Chika Nwokedi enlightens couples on endurance.

By Naomi Onome

Eze Chika Nwokedi and his wife, Pst Tessy Chika Nwokedi Ugoeze 1, had a beautiful celebration of love and marriage during the couple's 24th wedding anniversary on Monday, August 25, 2025, in Lagos. The marriage is a testament to their commitment, attributing their success to God's grace.

The highlights of the event include the cutting of the anniversary cake and prizes being given to couples who have spent over 20 years in marriage with their spouse; the gift items are food staff, printed materials and other gifts. Invited guests who graced the occasion, especially couples, expressed admiration with an outpouring of wishes for the celebrating couple.

The women's wing of Fire Grace and Mercy Restoration Ministry graced the occasion in a grand style in honour of the chaperoning overseer, Pst. Tessy Chika Nwokedi, on the event of her 24th wedding anniversary with her husband, Eze Chika Nwokedi, the Ezendigbo of Ijegun Ijeododo, Chairman of the Council of Ndi Eze Igbo Lagos, and Founder of the Igbo Buru'otu Association of Nigeria.

The particularly insightful connotations from well-wishers at the marriage anniversary event are centred on imperfect couples learning to enjoy their differences.

A couple from Edo State, Mr Jerry and Mrs Glory, revealed that the secret of a good marriage is endurance and peace, and as such, their marriage has been able to survive hard times for over 21 years of their marriage by ensuring love and peace around. The couple congratulated Eze Chika Nwokedi and Pst Tessy Chika Nwokedi on their 24th wedding anniversary and commended Eze Chika for his charitable prowess towards others while urging him to progress further in his act of magnanimity.

Chief Dr Okechukwu Izuegbunam, PhD, Chairman of the Igbo Speaking Community of Ikotun-Igando, Chairman of the Youth Leader of Igbo National Stakeholders of Lagos, and Chairman of the Obi Chukwu Royal Council of Igando-Egan, praises the couple's 24-year marriage milestone. Expressed admiration for the couple's enduring relationship, especially given the current challenges in Nigeria. Dr Okechukwu further expresses a heartfelt wish for the couple to continue on their path in serving as a role model for others.

Mrs Ada Odili uses the medium of the marriage anniversary to discuss the turbulent process of marriage, emphasising the importance of unity and peace. Wishing the couple a happy 24th year in marriage, wishing him good luck and wisdom.

Chief Mrs Okorie shares her unique take on marriage, blending spiritual, educational, and journey-like analogies. She emphasises marriage as a sacred bond rooted in spirituality, comparing its journey to lifelong education filled with various experiences. According to her, endurance is key, suggesting that marriage requires patience and resilience to navigate its challenges.

According to Pst. Dr Tessy Chika Nwokedi Ugoeze, the marriage anniversary celebrant, marriage is a union perceived to be sweet and perfect despite its challenging situations, yet it is essential for couples to imbibe positive thoughts and actions for a happy and fulfilling marriage life. However, she said the years of love, unity, and God's faithfulness are a testimony of grace and commitment as she inspires others.

In her words of encouragement to other couples, she shared some words of wisdom, saying,

"Marriage is a union where your expectations might not be met, but it is important that a couple manage their affairs soothingly."

"Wedding anniversaries are a time to be grateful to God for keeping the marriage together. Moreover, one of the key things in marriage is communication, even when couples don't feel like talking."

"A great marriage is not when perfect couples come together, but when the imperfect couple learns to manage their differences. Do not forget to implore endurance, for marriage is the coming together of two strangers who must learn to love and show respect for each other."

"As an ordained servant of God, I have always reminded God through my marital crisis that I must not face the agony of being a divorcee. For me, God has always been at the centre of my 24-year-old union, ensuring that we seek his face in all our situations."

"For every woman, the war room is necessary to observe specific prayers, especially during the trying times in the marriage; every woman should learn to ask for God's intervention and direction when the going gets tough."

"Proverbs 18:22 says, 'He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the LORD.'" Therefore, learn to forgive your husband even before he offends you; this action builds inner peace for every virtuous woman, for "to err is human, and to forgive is divine."

"To the young couples, marriage is not a simple affair, and it requires patience and a willingness to be foolish. Two wise men cannot be in the same boat, like two pilots cannot pilot a plane. Sometimes, both partners become foolish, but they must let go of everything for the marriage to work. Balancing these aspects is crucial, and it is up to God to guide the couple."

In praise of her husband, Eze Chika Nwokedi, she said, "Nothing is perfect, but we thank God for making us stronger; thank you for being my ROCK. I can boldly affirm I've made the right choice for a husband, and we have forever to go."

Eze Chika Nwokedi during the anniversary revealed that despite being the least financially enhanced among his siblings, he's developed a generous spirit, finding joy in giving to others even when it might be a stretch of an attempt. He also stated that his father had assigned the mantle of leadership to him at an early stage in life, which must not be contested by his siblings; hence, the greatness in him to do charity at every given time, whether he's financially buoyant at that specified time or not. This, he claims, has led him to be crowned with the title 'Okpoko 1' of Obodoukwu.

His display of magnanimity was also witnessed at his marriage anniversary with his wife, where he gave out over 15 medium-sized bags of rice, printed materials (Ankara) and other items. He rewarded couples who've made it to 20 years or more of marriage.

Scientific Week: Community Pharmacists Partner With the Nigeria Police to Promote Equitable Access to Health

.....as security expert Femi Aratokun-Ale trains police officers during a master class security programme

By Naomi Onome

The Association of Community Pharmacists (ACPN) Day of the 2025 PSN Lagos Scientific Week had community pharmacists in collaboration with the Nigeria Police to sensitise officers of the Area 'M' command led by the Area Commander, ACP Tokunbo Abaniwonda, on the importance of prioritising their health through regular check-ups, healthy habits, and stress management to serve their community effectively.

The 2-day health event slated for August 25 and 26, 2025, is focused on health awareness, wellness, and the role of pharmacists in the community. The health facilitator for day one of the event noted that regular health check-ups and healthy lifestyle habits (sleep, hydration, exercise, and diet) and managing stress and mental health and monitoring vital signs (blood pressure and blood sugar) are key factors in creating a healthy lifestyle. Focus was laid on health awareness, wellness, and the role of pharmacists in maintaining health.

The health educator said,

"The health event collaboration for health support is set to educate on the importance of following prescriptions correctly as well as incorporate health awareness in the daily routine, visit community pharmacies for simple checkups and learn about medications and supplements."

"Pharmacists, on the other hand, will readily provide education on diet, exercise, rest, and stress management, and work with medical doctors and healthcare experts to provide referrals."

"Healthy living, chronic disease care and emergency medicine, keeping a close watch on vital signs like blood pressure and sugar levels. Regular checks can help catch issues before they become serious."

"High blood pressure, diabetes, poor sleep, chronic insomnia, and constant stress and fatigue are common issues in the military due to the nature of their jobs. People may skip meals, eat unhealthily, and have long walking hours, which can lead to backaches and joint pain."

"Early detection is key to preventing health issues, such as constant headaches, unusual fatigue, and poor posture. It is crucial to recognise and address these issues early to prevent further complications."

"People should be more focused on maintaining good health and avoiding unnecessary stress; individuals can better support themselves and others in their communities."

The health educator conclusively shared tips on managing stress, including deep breathing exercises, and encouraged officers to prioritise their health for their own well-being and to serve their community effectively.

Some key quotes and notes include that:

Taking care of yourself isn't selfish. It is part of your job; your commitment to health is a promise to your family, your fellow officers, and the people you serve. When police and pharmacists join hands, a front line that safeguards the public is created.

The presentation concluded with questions from officers and gratitude and appreciation for the collaboration between the police and pharmacists as done by CSP Nwoko Jude (O/C Patrol and Guide Area M). Moreover, the ACPN Lagos representatives donated free medical kits, including a first aid box and a BP machine, to the Area M command for medical checkups. They also distributed free health care products as well as conducted free medical checkups for participating officers of the command.

Meanwhile, the 2-day health event for police officers as organised by the ACP Tokunbo Abaniwonda of the Area M Command concluded with a health walk on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

The highlight of the programme focused on community policing and its potential to reduce crime. Some potential benefits of community policing include building trust between law enforcement and the community, improving communication, and increasing cooperation.

The role of police in leadership and the challenges they face were also discussed.

Rtd. police officer strips sick brother off property and abandons him in a bushy area in Ikorodu

...as the wife of the officer's sick brother, Kelvin Bamidele, laments

By May Edet

It is reported that Mrs Veronica Adepoju, a retired police officer who was last the DPO of Mushin Division, allegedly handed off her ailing brother, Kelvin Bamidele, who has been diagnosed with dementia since 2018, in a bushy area of Ikorodu and left him to his fate.

According to reports provided to Naomisophyblog, Mr Kelvin Bamidele, the victim, was married and had four children. He became a burden after Mrs Veronica Adepoju visited his home in late 2024 with the intention of severing his relationship with his wife and kids.As said, Veronica claimed Kevin's business, accused Kevin's wife of adultery, and sent her away with her kids. She also took care of Kelvin's poor health until she started to view him as a burden.

Due to his deteriorating condition, Kelvin claimed he was unable to halt his sister's plan and could only succumb to her decisions. Veronica Adepoju proceeded with her intentions to take over Kevin's hotel business, sold it, and only sent Kelvin's wife a total of five million naira after months of pleading.Additionally, Kelvin's wife utilised the five million to partially repay a debt she took out to finance the business when she was in charge.

In 2018, Mr Kelvin Bamidele, who had previously operated a hotel as a joint venture with his brother, who now resides overseas, was unexpectedly diagnosed with dementia and became unfit to handle the business. He gave his wife, Mrs Bamidele, instructions to take over the hotel's operation.

However, Mrs Bamidele ran the hotel business by taking out a large loan to finance its expansion, and she hadn't paid it back in full before Mrs Veronica Adepoju, Kelvin Bamidele's sister, learnt of the situation and took over the hotel management for the reason that Kevin's wife allegedly used the hotel as a prostitution arena, and she also accused her of adultery.

After Mrs Veronica allegedly squandered the money from Kelvin's company sales and had no use for Kelvin in her home, the situation took an unexpected turn. It should be noted that as of the time Veronica sent Kelvin's wife and kids away from Kelvin's rented apartment, their rent was due for a renewal.Kelvin was taken away to go and live with Mrs Veronica, his sister, while the wife and the kids were rendered homeless until Mrs Bamidele's family intervened to give them shelter. Additionally, Veronica had already sold the company before she forced Mrs Bamidele and the children to leave their house, and she only sent her five million naira to help her pay back a portion of the loans months later.

However, Kelvin Bamidele was later abandoned in the bush somewhere in Ikorodu by his own sister Veronica, who claimed she was no longer able to pay his medical fees.Fortunately, Mr Kelvin was spotted by occupants of a nearby estate, who started to enquire and begged Kelvin's wife to bring him back and take proper care, but Mrs Bamidele, who's left with 4 kids to cater for, complained that she has no means to cater for her sick husband, which led the estate occupants to sort for Mrs Veronica.

Instead of abandoning the sick man in the middle of nowhere, the good Samaritans called Mrs Veronica to make provisions for Mr Kelvin. She offered to give N450,000 but almost immediately demanded a refund after learning that Kevin's wife would be using the funds to provide for him. The money was returned, while Kelvin was left to suffer a terrible fate.

Mrs Bamidele, who struggles to provide for her children and pay school fees, is pleading with the public for help in her overwhelmed state, as all efforts to reach Mrs Veronica Adepoju have proven abortive. She begs for help, pointing out that if the business were still up and running, it would have been a resourceful avenue to meet her husband's medical obligations.

The public can try to reach Kelvin Bamidele's family for intervention on:

School graduation parties pose financial burden on Nigerian parents – Iche

By Naomi Onome

Human rights advocate Comrade Prince Saviour Iche in a recent article shed light on the issue of mandatory graduation parties in schools in Lagos State. He says the end-of-session school party has become a significant financial burden for many parents in Nigeria.

He noted that some schools charge exorbitant fees for these parties, which can be as high as ₦100,000 or more, depending on the location. This has led to concerns about the impact on parents who are already struggling to pay school fees, rent, and other essential expenses.

Some arguments in support of regulating or abolishing these parties include:

- Reducing the financial burden on parents, especially those with multiple children

- Preventing schools from exploiting parents for financial gain

- Promoting equality among students, as some may feel left out or embarrassed if their parents can't afford the party fees

According to Iche, others might argue that graduation parties can be a meaningful way to celebrate students' achievements and milestones. Schools may use these parties as an opportunity to teach students about planning, organisation, and community involvement.

He further said,

"The university graduation ceremony is welcomed and seen as compulsory, but the primary and secondary school graduation strategy is uncalled for if it remains an exorbitant expense."

"It should be noted that there are other school expenses such as books, holiday lesson fees, and others, which are valid responsibilities for parents. In my opinion, if a school graduation party must take place, then the financial implication must be reasonable, not exorbitant."

He revealed that Imo State and Edo State have already taken steps to address this issue by putting laws in place to regulate or abolish mandatory school parties. Urges the minister of education to implement similar laws in other states and potentially a national policy to standardise practices across the country.

What does the public think would be the most effective way to implement such a policy, and how could schools find alternative ways to celebrate students' achievements without placing a financial burden on parents?

PoliticsOmobarca In Strategic Talks With National Secretary Of ADC, Rauf Aregbesola Ahea by onochurch(op): 8:37pm On Aug 20, 2025
OmoBarca in Strategic Talks with National Secretary of ADC, Rauf Aregbesola Ahead of 2027 Elections

By Naomisophyblog

A new wave of political realignment may be in the offing as the Labour Party chieftain in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Federal Constituency, Hon. Francis Barthlomew Chima, popularly known as OmoBarca, held a closed-door meeting with the National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, who is also a former Governor of Osun State, in Lagos over the weekend.

Although details of the meeting remain undisclosed, political observers suggest that it may not be unconnected to early strategic moves ahead of the 2027 general elections. The encounter, which took place at a private venue in Lagos, has already sparked speculations of possible coalition talks, cross-party alliances, and strategic positioning by both political figures.

OmoBarca, a prominent philanthropist and grassroots mobiliser, has consistently maintained visibility within the Labour Party and Ajeromi-Ifelodun politics, particularly among youths and community development groups. His engagement with Aregbesola, a seasoned politician, former Minister of Interior, and key national figure now steering affairs within the ADC, signals a growing appetite for broader political collaboration across party lines.

Sources close to the meeting revealed that discussions centred around governance challenges, the role of smaller parties in shaping Nigeria’s political future, and the need to build formidable alliances capable of presenting credible alternatives to the dominant political blocs. While neither OmoBarca nor Aregbesola has issued an official statement, their joint appearance underscores the intensifying behind-the-scenes manoeuvres that usually characterise Nigeria’s pre-election seasons.

Political analysts in Lagos have described the meeting as “strategic and symbolic”, noting that both men share a reputation for grassroots appeal and bold political decisions. “OmoBarca has established himself as a force in Ajeromi-Ifelodun through philanthropy and direct engagement with the people, while Aregbesola brings years of political experience, national visibility, and party structuring expertise,” one analyst observed. “If their discussions evolve into concrete political collaboration, it could alter calculations in Lagos and beyond as 2027 approaches.”

The closed-door parley also comes at a time when opposition parties are under pressure to build consensus and avoid fragmentation ahead of future elections. The Labour Party, which gained significant traction in 2023, is seeking to consolidate its position, while the ADC has repeatedly emphasised the need for a “third force” coalition to give Nigerians more viable political options.

Meanwhile, community stakeholders in Ajeromi-Ifelodun have reacted cautiously, with some expressing optimism that the meeting could yield positive political dividends for grassroots development. Others have urged OmoBarca to remain steadfast in championing the interests of his constituency while navigating national-level alliances.

As Nigeria edges closer to another election cycle, the Lagos meeting between OmoBarca and Aregbesola highlights the shifting dynamics of opposition politics. Whether it evolves into a formal alliance or remains exploratory, it reflects the urgency among political actors to begin laying foundations for 2027.

For now, Nigerians and political watchers will keenly await official clarifications, but one thing remains certain: the race towards 2027 has already begun behind closed doors.

PoliticsOutrage Over Lagos-calabar Coastal Road's Poor Construction – Iche by onochurch(op): 1:13pm On Aug 11, 2025
Outrage over Lagos-Calabar coastal road's poor construction – Iche

By Naomi Onome

In a statement made by human rights advocate Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, he expresses concerns over the poor condition of the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, commissioned by President Tinubu and overseen by the Minister of Works, David Umahi. The road, he says, has deteriorated rapidly since its commissioning, raising concerns about its construction quality and the contract process.

Iche said it is a known fact that poor road construction in Nigeria is a widespread issue with significant economic and social consequences. Factors like substandard materials, inadequate maintenance, and flawed construction practices contribute to premature road failures, leading to increased transportation costs, safety hazards, and economic losses.

He noted that the project was awarded without proper bidding, leading to inflated costs and substandard work. He further said,

"The Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, commissioned by President Tinubu and Minister of Works Dave Umahi, is dead on arrival and a death trap poised to endanger the lives of Nigerians, especially the future road users, if not addressed."

"A few months after embarking on the project, the road was commissioned, and now it is evident through a viral video that the improper sand filling of the sea is collapsing beneath the constructed road, causing a sinking dent. We are aware that Nigerians protested the contract's high capital intensity when it was approved, despite the fact that there are other, more pressing situations that require this kind of finance."

How is it possible for the government to award such a contract without holding an open bidding process and without inviting other construction companies to submit quotes in order to ascertain expertise? The government and its business associates made a deliberate effort to impose the fictitious and uncontested sum for that coastline route running in the billions yet lacking in quality."

"President Tinubu to sack the minister of works without delay for affirming that the road project is going according to plan but lying. This is allegedly one out of many low-quality roads awarded by the minister of works. It will be tragic if the failing Lagos-Calabar coastal route road work is not fixed in the coming months."

"How can such a high-profile road project be carried out without a drainage system? Everyone can see in the widely circulated video that the foundation of the road is collapsing due to the incompetent and unprofessional job carried out by the construction company awarded this project."

"In Nigeria, for some reasons the government just gambles with everything, including people's lives. If the base of this road can be eaten off in a few months of commissioning, what will happen in the next one year or two years? The whole road, I presume, would have totally collapsed by then. This is one out of many other concerning situations happening in Nigeria that the government keeps silent about rather than immediately addressing."

"Keeping silent over matters that concern the general public is tantamount to condoning recklessness. It's high time President Tinubu appointed ministers and other appointees not based on political interest or one's affiliation to the ruling party or the governor's influence but based on expertise in order to mitigate the shortcomings now observed."

"The Nigerian government is known for nonchalance towards the citizen's welfare, as seen in the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project involving billions of dollars that would have been beneficial to solving other more relevant issues Nigeria is facing but was channelled into a wasteful venture."

Iche calls on President Tinubu to sack the Minister of Works, citing incompetence and unprofessionalism. Moreover, prosecute those involved in the project to hold them accountable and serve as a deterrent to other road project awardees, Iche added. #

EventsOver 60 Motorcycle Riders Benefit From Eze Chika Nwokedi's Charitable Birthday D by onochurch(op): 1:51am On Aug 05, 2025
Over 60 motorcycle riders benefit from Eze Chika Nwokedi's charitable birthday demonstration.

...he says giving back to the society is his norm.

By Naomi Onome

In a show of love and solidarity in Ijegun, Lagos State, Eze Chika Nwokedi, the Ezendigbo of Ijegun Ijeododo, celebrated his birthday on August 4, 2025, by giving over 60 motorbike riders, also referred to as okada riders, cash gifts, emblems, free N3000 worth of fuel, and other forms of support.

The activity, which started off from Estate Junction in Ijegun down to the Ijegun-Ijeododo and Ijagemo axis, had riders from various parks. Okada men who benefited from the charitable gesture affirmed it is unprecedented for any monarch in the Ijegun axis and Lagos in its entirety to conduct a detribalised exercise as demonstrated by Eze Chika Nwokedi.

The riders, which consist of the Igbo, Yoruba and Hausa, chanted praises of hope, admiration and gratitude following the unprecedented actions of the celebrant, Eze Chika Nwokedi, who has chosen to mark his birthday by giving back to the society.

Speaking with some beneficiaries at the various venues (filling stations), they confirmed Eze Chika Nwokedi had conducted the same kind of activity in times past and severally. They noted that not only have they benefitted from the free fuel exercise, but also the enhanced security measures constituted by the monarch in safeguarding the lives of people in his jurisdiction of reign in Ijegun.

They further recounted the celebrant's contribution to the development of the Ijegun community, which includes streetlight installation, business enhancement capital for businesswomen, catering for the widows, the less privileged and sick persons, and some in-street road projects he funded. Most importantly, Eze Chika ensures that the community residents live in peace with zero tolerance, for there will be no room for intertribal dispute.

In particular, Osemena Amaechi, Jimoh Alao, Onyemaechi Chinonso, Aminu Muritala, and Ilesanmi, also known as the soldier boy, stated that they were surprised that someone would give them fuel during this crucial time. Other coworkers who had previously benefited had also shared stories that seemed implausible until they saw and benefited today. Meanwhile, the secretary of Okada riders at Alado Bus Stop, Ijegun, who's familiar with the monarch, mentioned that he has witnessed many of his charitable endeavours and is amazed by his generosity and prayed for Eze Chika's longevity.

Akajiofor Ndigbo Ijegun Ijeododo, the chairman of Eze Okpoko Palace, and Chief Dr Godwin Aneme characterised Eze Chika Nwokedi as a man with a "big heart" due to his long history of charitable events. As he aspires to follow in his principal Eze Chika's footsteps, Dr Godwin stated that while he believes in giving and has done so in his own capacity, says his charity work cannot be compared to what Eze Chika has done repeatedly without tribal sentiments. He prays for longevity in good health.

Emeka Onwukaobi, the onowu of Ijegun Ijeododo, has reiterated Eze Chika Nwokedi's commitment to bettering the lives of the people in his jurisdiction of reign and beyond; he said Eze Chika's philanthropic exercise has been a norm for many years and is still counting. He described the monarch as a detribalised entity who regards all persons as one regardless of tribe and status and wishes the monarch long life in good health.

Hon. Charles Chidozie Okadire says he's known Eze Chika Nwokedi for over 30 years and can describe him as a selfless leader following the monarch's four-year rule as chairman of Ladipo International Market. He recounted how Eze Chika Nwokedi has imbibed the norms of catering for the needs of the homeless and less privileged persons and sends his birthday wishes.

The Obi Udo of Ijegun Ijeododo, Chukwuemeka Azuruike, noted that the celebrant, Eze Chika, is a cheerful giver with a touch of humanity for the less privileged and says the celebrant is categorically the best man he's met. Affirmed the spirit of the Ijegun land is happy with his philanthropic activities as he urged the monarch to sustain continuity.

As God has ordained, Pst Mrs (Amb) Dr Tessy Chika Nwokedi, Ugoeze 1 of Ijegun Ijeododo, complimented her spouse on being the backbone of many. During the monarch's celebration, Tessy disclosed that 2025 is unique and had a different course than the monarch's customary annual gathering. As seen by the free fuel exercise for motorbike riders, she stated Eze Chika made the decision this year to do more for the underprivileged in society by sharing a deeper commitment. She prays for long life, prosperity, and purpose fulfilment.

The celebrant, Eze Chika Nwokedi, on the occasion of his birthday, noted that birthday celebrations are a way of expressing gratitude for the gift of life, and he's decided to mark his 2025 birthday with okada riders by putting a smile of relief on their faces. He said celebrating people after their death is absurd when you could better their lives when they are alive and says he will also visit the motherless baby home to celebrate with them.

Speaking about the significance of his birth, Eze Chika disclosed that he was once homeless and that the only places he had a place to sleep at night were unlikely places, particularly his place of business, because he had no other means. He claims that during his hardships, friends and family who he had depended on for a place to sleep at night abandoned him, so he understands what it's like to be less fortunate and will do anything in his power to continue helping those who are less fortunate now that he has been freed from that circumstance. He claimed that the way God has rewarded him is aptly described by the statement, "Once a beggar, now a giver."

Eze Chika urged all to emulate the act of giving, he said.

"Some claim to be extremely wealthy, but the real issue is: how many lives have you been able to impact with your wealth? Regardless of the amount in your account, money is worthless if it isn't used to improve lives."

"How many people are pleased that you are eating, then? What percentage of people have paid school fees for those in need? What number of lives have you impacted? My philanthropic abilities are not manifested in abundance but rather in the motivations underlying my altruistic deeds."

"My mother taught me to share what I had and to never overlook the hungry when I was a child. These lessons have stuck with me to this day. I also participated in church (CPM) construction as a young guy for free, which I believe has given me many possibilities and blessed me with much that I must share."

According to information obtained by Naomi Sophy Blog, over the years, the celebrant Eze Chika Nwokedi has donated a portion of his purchased land to more than six people as a gift to the underprivileged, constructed more than ten bungalows for members of his community, provided for more than 100 widows each year, and served as a support system for numerous back-to-school children. He has donated motorcycles to numerous unemployed young people in his Imo State town.

In order to improve security and prevent illicit activity that involves the corroboration of some Okada riders, Eze Chika Nwokedi also gave out an insignia for the riders to use as identification throughout the exercise. By simply choosing to ride with the legitimate motorcyclists, members of the community may guarantee their safety thanks to the identification. According to the celebrant, the inspiration to donate is typically a command from God that he must follow.

The above article highlights Eze Chika's philanthropic efforts, including providing cash gifts, fuel, and other forms of support to okada riders and the wider community in Ijegun, Lagos State.Eze Chika Nwokedi's cabinet chiefs and a few friends were present to support and celebrate the icon.#

She added that God has enveloped her with the virtue of patience and grace, as is the title of her ministry, 'Fire, Grace, and Mercy Restoration Ministry,' to cope with her husband's many tasking activities, especially his philanthropic nature, which ensures he is used by God to solve the financial issues of many destitute in the society first, for that is his calling and must be regarded. In addition, she expresses gratitude to everyone who sends well wishes to the celebrant, prays for her husband's longevity, and asks for greater grace, wealth, and wisdom to lead. She also sends her best wishes to all the other August celebrants.

Chief Mrs. Chizoba Charity Okorie, one of the celebrants at the August event, added that August-born are special in character, thinking, lifestyle, selfless service, and uniqueness. She said the "main event," which showcases their donations, is meant to set a standard and representation to ensure that the organisation attains a new feat. By means of the celebration, she advised Nigerians to break through and imbibe the happy spirit and disallow people from determining one's happiness despite the economic meltdown challenges plaguing the nation; she said that despite the economic situation, the celebrants donated gifts to members to spread love and happiness.

Eze Chika Nwokedi, on the commemoration of his birthday, encourages forward-thinking Nigerians to hold onto their hope that the country's economy will improve for everyone as soon as possible. He advocates for love and peace amongst Nigerians devoid of ethnic war and segregation and teaches all to refrain from evil practices, for whatever a man sows, that he shall also reap. He added that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as the president of Nigeria, cannot do it all by himself and urged the president's cabinet, including the senators of the upper and lower chambers, the ministers, the governors, and all in power as assigned, to assist the president in making well-informed decisions that will advance the country.

At the end of the event, Eze Chika Nwokedi showered co-celebrants with cash; a picture plaque was also presented to all the August-born celebrants as they danced and celebrated one another. The event, as seen, is a way to promote unity as well as showcase the special qualities of those born in August.

IVLPAAN masterclass equips professionals with the ability to negotiate.

...trains over 100 professionals

By Naomisophyblog

The International Visitor Leadership Program Alumni Association of Nigeria (IVLPAAN) recently organised a negotiation masterclass, training over 100 professionals. The event focused on empowering participants with negotiation skills to articulate their value, price confidently, and secure high-value deals.

The masterclass featured expert-led sessions, practical tools, and real-life case studies. Key takeaways included mastering one's value and crafting winning negotiation strategies. Understanding the emotional and psychological dimensions of negotiation; utilising the BATNA model in negotiation strategy; attracting clients through value-driven negotiation and active listening; and embracing humility and constructive engagement in professional settings.

The event highlights IVLPAAN's commitment to capacity building and catalysing change among Nigerian professionals.

A statement by IVLPAAN reads,

An impactful masterclass on the art and strategy of negotiation was recently held by the International Visitor Leadership Program Alumni Association of Nigeria (IVLPAAN) as part of its transforming "Empower-to-Prosper Series." The seminar, which had as its theme "Negotiate With Power: How to Charge Appropriately for Your Value," focused on how crucial negotiating is becoming as a fundamental professional skill in Nigeria's fiercely competitive economic environment.

The masterclass, which was held at the American Corner, Concord Newspaper Complex, Ikeja, Lagos, brought together a vibrant group of professionals, creatives, and entrepreneurs who were all keen to improve their capacity to confidently set prices, communicate value, and land high-value deals without underselling.

In order to give participants the mentality and approach necessary for fruitful negotiations, the program included useful tools, real-world case studies, and expert-led sessions.

In his welcoming remarks, IVLPAAN President Adedayo Oketola emphasised the organisation's goal of empowering changemakers via social impact projects, leadership training, and mentoring.

Chief Operating Officer Odunola Onadipe of Detail Commercial Solicitors led the first session, "Mastering Your Value & Crafting Winning Negotiation Strategies." Onadipe guided participants through the process of determining their market worth and creating value propositions that are appealing and based on their core skills and areas of expertise.

She stressed the psychological and emotional aspects of negotiation, emphasising that the communication styles, anxieties, and motivations of others are often critical to effective outcomes. One of her most notable contributions was her analysis of the BATNA (Best Alternative to a Negotiated Agreement) model, which she promoted as an essential instrument for negotiation tactics.

Dr. Peter Ogudoro, Managing Consultant at Ogudoro Leadership Trainers and Founder of the Nigerian Teachers Community, gave insightful advice on attracting rather than chasing clients in today's fast-paced economy during the second session, "From Pitch to Payment—Closing High-Value Deals Without Underselling Yourself."

In order to ensure long-term growth, Ogudoro, a successful educationist and career strategist, urged participants to embrace humility in professional situations, even if it means crediting success to superiors. He highlighted value-driven bargaining, active listening, and consistency as characteristics of top-tier professionals.

In order to promote constructive interaction and maintain professional connections, he also revealed paradoxical tactics, such as the value of asking clarifying questions when one disagrees.

Participants expressed their sincere gratitude for the knowledge and useful skills they had acquired as the program came to an end with the presentation of certificates of participation. The training was beneficial to more than 80 professionals, including Dr. Maymunah Kadiri, CEO of Pinnacle Medical Services; Mrs. Saudat Salami; Bunmi Yekini, publisher of Heapnews; Akeem Aponmade, president of the United States Government Exchange Alumni Association Nigeria (USGEAAN), Lagos Chapter; and Adetoun Tade, former IVLPAAN president.

IVLPAAN is dedicated to changing things and empowering Nigerian professionals through focused knowledge-sharing platforms. The just-concluded masterclass serves as evidence of this dedication.

In rural areas, the majority of men and women started taking care of their health at a young age. We must understand that these vices have direct negative influence in our body and tend to affect the overall functionality of the organs. Most men and women lack temperance in their lives, either from ignorance or self-control.

Studies have shown that healthy diets are the best for promoting long life. The facts are well known, but how many people dully observe it. Foods reach in balance diet support the functions of a healthy heart, arteries and veins.

Daily exercise is vital for longevity . The body can be liken a machine that requires to be used daily. If the machine is not being in use, the tendency for it to get worn out or rust becomes apparent. You must constantly make it a practice to engage the mind by reading and discussing important topics and keeping the body feet by engaging in physical exercise regularly. This also keeps the circulation, especially in the brain.

HealthLIFE Advocates For Accountability On Preventable Maternal Deaths In Lagos State by onochurch(op): 1:43pm On Jul 28, 2025
LIFE advocates for accountability on preventable maternal deaths in Lagos State

...set to amplify female voices

By Naomi Onome

Leadership Initiative for Youth Empowerment (LIFE) highlights a critical issue in Nigeria, particularly in Lagos State, where unsafe abortions significantly contribute to maternal mortality. The stigma surrounding abortion, fuelled by cultural and religious beliefs, exacerbates the problem by silencing discussions and limiting access to safe care.

The Amplify Project's initiative to reinstate the STOP guideline and standardise medical practitioners' capacity to provide safe abortion services is crucial. By amplifying vulnerable women's voices and advocating for policy change, the project aims to save lives and uphold reproductive rights.

Some potential challenges the project might face, as stated, include resistance from conservative groups due to cultural and religious beliefs and limited access to healthcare services in rural areas. Need for comprehensive education and awareness campaigns.

The project's success could lead to improved maternal health outcomes, reduced mortality rates, and enhanced reproductive rights for women in Lagos State.

The article released by LIFE reads,

Unsafe abortion is responsible for up to 40% of maternal health complications in Nigeria, making it the second leading cause of maternal mortality. In 2017 alone, Nigeria accounted for 212,000 of the over 2 million maternal deaths recorded globally.

Stigma, driven by deep-rooted religious and cultural beliefs, continues to silence conversations around safe abortion and maternal health. Yet, despite this silence, the prevalence of unsafe abortion remains high. Avoiding open discussion only worsens the situation, as many preventable deaths have occurred simply because women and girls whose continuation of pregnancy poses serious risks are either unaware of their options or unable to access timely care.

Examples include young girls with obstructed labour due to underdeveloped bodies, women with underlying medical conditions such as severe hypertension or cardiac disease, and survivors of sexual violence who become pregnant and are left without support or safe alternatives. These are real scenarios where delayed intervention or lack of access to life-saving services has led to needless loss of life.

The Amplify Project under the PAMOJA platform seeks to enhance the voice and agency of vulnerable women and girls in Lagos State to demand accountability in addressing preventable maternal deaths. The project specifically advocates for the reinstatement of the STOP (Safe Termination of Pregnancy) guideline, which has been suspended, leaving many women at risk.

The project aims to influence policy and practice by supporting the lifting of the suspension on the STOP guideline and to standardise and strengthen the capacity of medical practitioners to save the lives of women and girls whose pregnancy continuation is a danger to their health and well-being.

This effort is grounded in the understanding that access to safe abortion in line with legal exceptions is critical to saving lives and upholding reproductive rights. When a pregnancy endangers a woman’s life, saving her shouldn’t be a debate."

PoliticsGovernor Soludo @65: Selfless, Compassionate, And Empathetic Servant-leader by onochurch(op): 10:42am On Jul 28, 2025
Governor Soludo @65: Selfless, Compassionate, and Empathetic Servant-Leader

By Naomisophyblog

In a statement issued by Christian Aburime, he said, 'For great minds, leadership is about service that combines a sense of responsibility with a soul of empathy.' Societies that have such great minds as leaders are lucky indeed.

Today, Anambra State is proud to have one in Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, who marks a milestone birthday as he clocks 65 years.

This is, therefore, a great occasion to reflect on the impactful leadership that has defined Governor Soludo’s tenure in Anambra State. His administration is a refreshing example of governance rooted in genuine care for the people he serves.

Over the past three years, his administration has demonstrated that effective governance is measured not by political grandstanding but by tangible improvements in the welfare of the people.

For instance, the governor’s free antenatal and delivery care program for Anambra women embodies a nuanced understanding that maternal health is foundational to community prosperity. By removing financial barriers to prenatal and delivery care, his administration has ensured that every expectant mother in Anambra, regardless of economic status, can access quality healthcare during their critical period.

Similarly, the commitment to free education reflects a leader who understands that investing in children is investing in the state’s future. Education remains the most powerful tool for breaking cycles of poverty, and Governor Soludo’s dedication to making quality education accessible to all Anambra children proves his long-term vision for Anambra’s sustainable development.

The same can be said about the prompt payment of pensions to senior citizens as another dimension of Governor Soludo’s empathetic leadership. Too often, elderly citizens who have served their state faithfully find themselves neglected by the systems they helped build.

But by prioritising timely pension payments, the governor has restored dignity to Anambra’s senior citizens, acknowledging their contributions and providing them with the security they deserve in their golden years.

We can also mention the minimal tax or tax-free status for blue-collar workers, artisans, drivers, and others in Anambra as further illustrating the governor’s understanding of economic realities facing ordinary families.

By reducing the tax burden on those who form the backbone of the state’s informal workforce, Governor Soludo has shown that progressive governance means easing the financial pressures on those who can least afford them.

Recently, the appreciative people of Anambra have bestowed upon their governor a befitting adulatory title that captures the essence of his leadership character: “Oruatuegwu,” meaning one who does not fear work and works tirelessly without growing weary. This title, deeply rooted in Igbo values that celebrate industriousness and dedication, speaks to how the people themselves view their leader for his relentless efforts to transform their state.

So, in celebrating Governor Soludo’s 65th birthday, we celebrate more than a technocratic governor; we celebrate a model of leadership that prioritises service over self-interest, responsibility over privilege, empathy over empty rhetoric, and tangible progress over political drama. His administration reminds us that effective governance requires both vision and compassion, as well as strategic thinking and genuine care for the governed.

In the end, the transformation of Anambra under his leadership vividly proves what can be achieved when a leader truly understands that public service is, at its core, about serving the public, not self. As he marks another year of life, the people of Anambra can take pride in having a governor who embodies the very best of servant leadership.

PoliticsFrom Policy To Impact: Renewed Hope & Akwa Ibom’s Arise Agenda—advancing Social by onochurch(op): 7:59pm On Jul 27, 2025
From Policy to Impact: Renewed Hope & Akwa Ibom’s Arise Agenda—Advancing Social Equity for Human-Centred Development

By Inemesit Ebu

Since assuming office in May 2023, the Governor Umo Eno-led administration has been characterised by a clear vision for progress, people development, and humanitarian response that goes beyond charity—embedding social welfare into state policy via the establishment of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, while weaving the indices that have raised the human development index in Akwa Ibom.

He has delivered 205 ARISE Compassionate Homes to the most vulnerable and has rolled out equipment support to over 2,000 MSMEs, thereby boosting local entrepreneurship. The governor has also provided monthly stipends to 600 elderly persons, ensuring dignity and support in old age. He has facilitated health insurance for 1,287 elderly persons and persons with disabilities (PWDs), awarded educational grants to 243 students with disabilities, and promoted inclusive education.

Also, Governor Eno has supported entrepreneurs with ₦750,000 and ₦5,000,000, respectively, to foster economic independence and stimulate the business ecosystem. He has issued ₦50,000 grants to youths, empowering the youth demographic, as well as reached 477,000 households through food distribution—reinforcing the notion that social programs are about dignity and resilience.

Clearly, Governor Eno’s commitment and strategic approach to inclusive development are becoming evident, thereby positioning Akwa Ibom as a leader in humanitarian governance and social security in Nigeria. Today, that proactive stance inspires the confidence we now experience through the Renewed Hope Social Security Program of the President Tinubu-led administration. For us in Akwa Ibom, this is not just a program but a reliable and inclusive pathway to sustainable growth and empowerment.

Through the Renewed Hope Agenda initiative of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, over 27,000 Akwa Ibom people received a Conditional Cash Transfer of ₦75,000 earlier today. This initiative, strategically designed to lift the poorest of the poor out of poverty and reduce economic hardship, is a social investment that aligns with the humanitarian model in Akwa Ibom State.

To rekindle hope in our people, our amiable Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, represented by the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki, today flagged off the program at the Women Development Centre amid resounding applause.

In his remarks, Governor Umo Eno applauded President Bola Tinubu for the initiative and for ensuring that Akwa Ibom people benefit from the program. His Excellency reaffirmed his commitment to partnering with the Federal Government to support vulnerable citizens, particularly through the implementation of the ARISE Agenda.

The Governor Umo Eno-led administration has laid a strong foundation in humanitarian investment, social security, and poverty alleviation that directly aligns with the Renewed Hope vision of the Federal Government.

Under our food distribution program, over 477,000 households have been reached. This demonstrates that our policies are not just about giving food or cash to people but about restoring dignity, driving economic empowerment, and building a state where no one is left behind.

The synergy between the state and the National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA) is clearly pivotal to ensuring the seamless and transparent implementation of this initiative.

It is also imperative to ensure that for the sustainability of this intervention, all hands must be on deck. Therefore, I call on corporate bodies, development partners, and philanthropic Nigerians to align and support the program—because the government cannot do it alone.

I urge beneficiaries to use the support wisely by investing in their small businesses. To those not yet captured in the social register, I assure you of the state government’s commitment to expand and reach more people.

The Association of Industrial Pharmacists of Nigeria (NAIP) made history on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, by breaking ground on a new Research Centre at the Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC) located in Oba, a town in the Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

This strategic initiative aims to establish state-of-the-art research centres across key Coordinated Wholesale Centres in Kano, Anambra, and Lagos, creating a central distribution hub for pharmaceutical products while significantly advancing the pharmaceutical landscape in Nigeria.

It aligns with efforts to address drug insecurity and establish a more organized pharmaceutical market, thereby enhancing the country’s reputation on the global stage. The groundbreaking ceremony was conducted by Chief (Dr.) U.N.O. Uwaga, with HRM, Igwe Ezechuamagha I of Ogidi Kingdom serving as the Guest of Honour.

The groundbreaking ceremony marked a momentous occasion, with NAIP National Chairman, Pharm. (Sir) Bankole Aminu Ezebuilo, emphasizing the importance of this project. The new research centres will focus on rigorous quality assurance processes, ensuring that all pharmaceutical products undergo thorough evaluations for quality upon receipt and prior to distribution. This commitment aims to enhance the integrity of Nigeria's pharmaceutical sector, confirming compliance with national and international standards.

Furthermore, the centres will be equipped with conference facilities designed for training, workshops, and collaborative research meetings, fostering dialogue and innovation among industry stakeholders. A crucial component of this initiative includes the establishment of a warehouse that will maintain temperature-sensitive products under medically regulated conditions, preserving their efficacy and safety until they reach consumers.

Pharm. Ezebuilo reiterated NAIP's dedication to building infrastructure that meets international standards while contributing to the training and capacity building of the local workforce. "With the right infrastructure and support, we can elevate the standards of pharmaceutical practice in Nigeria and beyond," he affirmed.

This groundbreaking ceremony is a significant step forward for NAIP and the broader pharmaceutical community, underscoring the importance of quality, safety, and innovation in fostering a progressive pharmaceutical industry. As NAIP embarks on this ambitious journey, the focus remains on enhancing public health outcomes through improved pharmaceutical standards, ultimately benefiting the citizens of Nigeria.

PoliticsAfrican Trade Hindered By Delays And Bottleneck Taxes – Iche by onochurch(op): 12:07pm On Jul 23, 2025
African trade hindered by delays and bottleneck taxes – Iche

By Naomi Onome

According to Comr. Prince Saviour Iche, President of the Association of Micro Entrepreneurs of Nigeria (AMEN), the Nigerian Export Promotion Council is responsible for ensuring that commodities are transported across African borders without incident by means of a "must have" trade permit. He talks about the difficulties Nigerian businesspeople encounter when trading with other African nations, citing delays and bottleneck taxes as the main roadblocks.

Iche highlights the difficulties faced by African businesses in trading with each other, including lengthy delays and damage to perishable goods. Calls on African presidents to address these issues and promote free trade within the continent.

However, Iche noted that the intertrade between African countries in recent times is seemingly compared to a difficult task aided by bottleneck taxes and delays. It is said that products coming into Nigeria from other African countries and vice versa have no smooth access to the Nigerian market due to delays caused by the authorities leading to compounded delays within the African countries compared to goods coming in from countries like China, Japan, the USA, the UK and other European countries, which take a shorter period of time to reach their destination than goods coming in and out of African countries.

As an entrepreneur who exports goods to other African countries, Iche further said,

"A product being conveyed from Nigeria to Ivory Coast, Ghana, Gambia, and Cameroon, to mention a few, takes a longer period of time to reach its destination than goods coming in from China to African countries, Nigeria included."

"Businessmen in Nigeria and other African countries lament that Africans find trading with one another to be so exhausting that it is like trying to fit a needle through a camel's eye."

"Goods from other African nations find it difficult to enter our market, just as Nigerian goods find it difficult to sell to other African nations. The presidents, ministries, ambassadors, and those in charge of trade affairs ought to eliminate the obstacles preventing seamless trade between African nations."

"An agreement has been made to facilitate economic dealings within the African shores; nevertheless, the issue is that the government creates regulations without carrying them out. Businessmen and women are dying of hypertension as a result of the delays in getting their goods to their destination, which can result in losses of millions or billions of naira, particularly if the goods are perishable."

"Businesses are closing, and the unemployment rate is rising daily, as people will lose their jobs if business owners (traders) are unable to transport their goods to neighbouring countries for trade to take place after the workers must have manufactured and assembled for conveyance."

"Some of these products get ruined when they take a long time to arrive at their destination (other African countries), despite instructions that often say they should be kept in a cool, dry environment."

"African presidents, please speak with your ministers of trade and embassies and allow free movement when conducting business with other African nations. I'm referring to necessities, not illegal goods."

"What is the role of the Nigeria Export Promotion Council? Apart from the fact that the government have purposefully chosen not to make things easier for Nigerian businessmen and women, it appears to the public that you do not comprehend the purpose of your position."

"If we are enemies to ourselves, how can we build our nation and create jobs? A trade document signatory may decide to abstain from their seat for a two-week period, which could delay the delivery of products and increase the risk of damage before they reach their destination."

"The only way for us to gain from bilateral economic relationships is for Africans to unite. African companies are suffering because of the export problem; thus, the Nigeria Export Promotion Council, the Minister of Trade and Investment, SMEDAN, and MANN should all take steps to address it, meet with other African trade ministries, and ensure that it is fixed. Moreover, bottleneck taxes are killing small firms as well and should be looked into. This message is an urgent call to action."

PSC seeks NDLEA support to conduct drug integrity test for police recruits

. Marwa assures Argungu of collaboration

By Naomisophysblog

Chairman of Police Service Commission, DIG Hashimu Argungu (rtd) has met with the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd) to seek the support of NDLEA in conducting drug integrity test for police recruits with a view to ensuring that those with the right frame of mind eventually make it out of police training colleges across the country.

Argungu made the request on Tuesday 22nd July 2025 when he led a delegation of the PSC management on a courtesy visit to Marwa at the Agency’s National Headquarters in Abuja. While commending the leadership of NDLEA for the support so far received, the PSC boss said his visit was to seek further assistance .“ I feel there is a need to come and plead, to seek for the assistance and cooperation of this organization, because we follow process and procedures in anything we do so that we can produce the best results.

“If the process and procedures were followed wrongly, the end result or product is going to be bad. So, recruitment in anywhere, in any sector, if bad eggs are in the process, the product or the people you are training is not going to be good. So, we feel it's very, very important.

“We are going to decentralize this screening exercise to different states of the federation. And because there is NDLEA in every state of the country, we want them to assist us in screening those who are already on drugs in whatever form because we can’t churn out and put arms in the hands of people already dependent on illicit drugs, that is dangerous. This is the main reason why we are here, and we are thanking you for your cooperation.”

In his response, Marwa noted that the drug scourge is a challenge affecting every part of national life and propelling security challenges. He said this explains why there is need for all stakeholders to embrace a whole of government and society approach to curbing the menace.

“On your request for drug integrity test for new police recruits, we are delighted about this and we’re happy to collaborate with you on this. We are prepared across all our commands all over the country with high quality test kits that will give you the right results. This is important because candidates play all manner of tricks with urine samples but our kits are produced to detect all of those. In all, you can rest assured we’ll be glad to work with you and support you on this”, the NDLEA boss stated.

Femi Babafemi, Director, Media & Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters Abuja related this report to the press on Tuesday 22nd July 2025.

Nigeria's debt crisis sparks outrage over corruption – Iche opin

....as activist Iche slams Tinubu government.

By Naomi Onome

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, raises concerns about Nigeria's growing debt and the impact of borrowing on Nigerians while advocating for accountability and action against corruption. He questions why there is a need for borrowed funds given the country's rich resources.

On today’s trending issue of discussion, Iche opined that recovered looted funds could potentially alleviate the need for borrowing as he calls on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to pursue corruption cases with present and past politicians without bias or party immunity; the government should account for the fuel subsidy funds as well.

He further said,

"Nigeria's debt profile has reached 160 trillion, with the Tinubu government borrowing an additional 9.3 trillion. This borrowing is a joke, as Nigeria is rich and not poor in resources that are yet unutilised."

"If the government allows the EFCC to recover the money held by the current and former leaders, billions and trillions of dollars could be recovered. The current administration and the EFCC should be aware of this corruption, and the money that was seized ought to be put towards fixing other economic problems."

"The government shouldn't be biased in its fight against corruption because the masses are suffering too much. The general well-being of Nigeria is being impacted by the money that is hidden and in the hands of its leaders. It is absurd that Nigeria is taking out loans, and we are even taking out loans from nations with lesser resources than we do."

"The money held by current SAs, former ministers, governors, and current ministers is sufficient to stop Pres. Tinubu's borrowing from other nations. Everyone is aware that the previous administration had corrupt leaders, and a particular governor was recently told not to investigate the previous administration. In a country where law and order exist, if the said governor had been permitted to use the EFCC to investigate the previous administration, billions and trillions of dollars would have been recovered."

"See how Yaya Bello is enjoying freedom and how people like Akpabio, Uzor Kalu, and former Edo State Governor Obaseki have been implicated in several money laundering scandals and are yet untouchable."

"What became of the fuel subsidy and the proceeds from its elimination? Has this borrowing had a positive impact on Nigerians? Take a look at the former governor of the central bank. Is he the sole plunderer? Why is it that the government cannot also target others? Emefiele was the only one who had an estate and billions confiscated; why is that so? It is important to apprehend other people who are involved in the laundering of public funds."

"When combating corruption, our government should not be biased. Since this money represents the sweat of the nation, the launderers should be exposed and our stolen public funds retrieved. The extreme adversity that the masses endure should not be in vain."

"I respectfully request that President Tinubu put an end to the shame brought on by the borrowing and irreparable money laundering of both the current and former administrations. The EFCC and the current government are aware that former SAs, ministers, and governors embezzled the country's treasury; the money launderers should be caught so that the funds can be used for the necessary purposes rather than continuing to borrow."
