ANPMP Ogun State Intensifies Fight Against Quackery and Advocates for Public Safety

By Naomisophyblog

The Association of Private Medical Practitioners of Nigeria (ANPMP), Ogun State Chapter, once again calls the attention of the Ogun State Government and the general public to the escalating menace of quackery threatening the safety of our citizens.

The association remains firmly committed to defending the integrity of medical practice and protecting the lives of the people of Ogun State.

Over the past few months, ANPMP has followed several disturbing cases involving individuals impersonating medical doctors and carrying out dangerous, illegal medical procedures. These include:

• The convicted quack was recently sentenced to four years in prison for a failed hernia surgery that endangered a patient’s life;

• The fraudulent impersonator who

deceived patients and authorities by posing as a licensed doctor, and

• The recent shocking case of a quack who employs qualified doctors to lend false legitimacy to his unlawful operations.

These alarming incidents demonstrate how deeply quackery has infiltrated our health system and the urgent need to restore sanity.

It has come to our attention that many of these quacks are Community Health Officers (CHOs) who have been wrongly permitted by the Ogun State Ministry of Health to register and operate health facilities, despite this being contrary to the Ogun State Association of Nigerian Private Medical Practitioners (ANPMP) ethics.

Maureen Ubong

Amaka Ekweanuo's future is in jeopardy due to reports that her younger brother, Maduabuchi John Ekweauno, also known as SKJ, has planned to hire a suspected assassin to assassinate her in Lagos State over a family dispute.

According to Naomisophyblog, Amaka said that her brother, Maduabuchi John, who relocated to Lisbon, Portugal, at Rua Mestr Jose Vizinho 22 from the Ajah Diamond estate near ShopRite Sangtedo in Lagos State, hired an unidentified individual known only as Oracle Komo to murder her.

The suspect,  Oracle Komo  with phone number 09033700263 who claimed to reside at Mopol junction area of Ayobo Lagos have been calling Amaka and threatening to deal with her decisively as was directed by his brother,  Maduabuchi John.

Thus,  Amaka has called the Nigerian Police to save his life because Oracle Komo has threatened to track where she reside and deal decisively with her and her daughter.

An embattled Amaka explained that Maduabuchi  who was the second son in the family asked their elder brother, Ebuka not to marry  so that he will not bear a child.

While Maduabuchi has his own child, probably to become the first born and inherit the family property in line with Igbo tradition.

Amaka was said to have challenged him with some other members of the family and asked Ebuka to go ahead with the marriage. This was said to have angered Mmaduabuchi for Amaka to challenge his authority as the bread winner in the family,

he reportedly sent Oracle Komo to go after her to deal with her decisively.

" Oracle Komo have been sending threatening messages demanding my address to carry out an assignment given to him by SKJ popularly known when he attended Lagos State Polytechnic in Ikorodu, Lagos before he was rusticated over alleged cult related activities. "

Some of the threatening messages dated 5th November,2025 included :

"Hello Amaka: +234 903 370 0263: Amaka we will locate your address in Ikorodu. You are doing too much. Becareful. Be careful again.

"I am a woman like you “ be careful. Your report just came to my desk. Don’t think I am Igbo like you. I am a Yoruba from Lagos origin . Be careful.

Last warning."

On the date Mmaduabuchi sent this message to Amaka:

Amaka: That thing wey you dey find. I go give am to you now.  Send your address if you get mind."

You want to show your strength.  I go let you know say. You too small.  God punish you and Ebuka and the girl (the woman his senior brother wants to marry )

You like to Dey call every body to scatter their mind against me. But all of una. Una no reach.I will personally make sure you run leave that Ekweanuo."

"That matter wey happen for Philippine. I don petition the matter to Abuja.

You and Ebuka go provide evidence of the person wey I kpai.

" I no fit forgive two of una until I die. "

"We full and get federal connection. Na before we dey fear EFCC. See my guy (Oracle Komo with EFCC current oga.  God punish you and your fake journalist."

Meanwhile, Naomisophyblog has began investigation to know the relationship among Maduabuchi, Oracle Komo and EFCC chairman as he claimed in his messages and displaying pictures.

When Naomisophyblog contacted Maduabuchi on his phone numbers+63 977 035 2619 and +63 935 892 9275,this was his response :

"Start writing it. And if you don’t write it. You and your family will never see the sunlight.

In the Ikotun area of Lagos State, police officers of the Ikotun Division have commenced a manhunt for criminals who were seen on camera breaking into a store, stealing electronics valued at millions of naira, and fleeing.

According to Naomisophyblog, the incident first occurred on September 27, 2025, and after successfully looting the store, they returned on October 28, 2025. During the operation, the DPO, CSP Waheed Adebisi, personally led police officers of the Division in repelling them.

The event occurred at the owner's (name withheld) electronics store in Lagos' Ikotun neighbourhood after he had shut the store and left for home.

The neighbours claim that the robbers successfully plundered the store during the first operation and returned for a second round. Meanwhile, during the second round of looting, the residents courageously alerted the DPO, who personally led the operation after receiving the distress call, but the robbers fled after sighting the DPO and his team of operational officers.

Police sources claim that after the complainant shut the store and left for home on those two evenings, a group of armed thieves armed with various weapons stormed into the store, stole the merchandise, and began transporting it.

The suspects, however, were unaware that a surveillance camera had recorded them entering the building and moving the gadgets.

However, the police have launched an investigation to apprehend the suspects who are now at large and declared wanted:

"The suspects are wanted in relation to a burglary that took place at an electronics store in Lagos, Nigeria's Ikotun Area, on September 27, 2025, and October 28, 2025. The suspects were seen entering the building and departing with devices in surveillance footage."

"We are requesting the public's help in identifying the people depicted in the picture and video below. There will be substantial rewards for anyone who gives information that results in the arrest of the burglary suspects."

Do not approach the individuals if seen; instead, call 09168628991.

PoliticsRe: Chief Sunday Udeh Disproves False Publication Of Ezendigbo's Commercialisati by onochurch(op): 9:48pm On Nov 06, 2025
Re: Chief Sunday Udeh Disproves False Publication of Ezendigbo's Commercialisation

.....says Obi of Lagos is a title for an Igbo leader not equivalent to Oba of Lagos.

....affirm Igbo leadership in Lagos is created to guide Ndigbo to ensure they abide by the laws of Lagos State not the reverse.

Chief Sunday Udeh, the President of the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, has denied allegations that Igbo culture has been commercialised and destroyed, claiming that the Ezendigbo title is legally recognised in Nigeria.

Udeh clarified that the Igbo Community was established by law, enabling them to crown the Ezendigbo and issue certificates per their constitution. He criticised an online media outlet for alleging abuse of customs and expressed concern over the proliferation of self-proclaimed kingmakers complicating the identification of legitimate titles.

Udeh emphasized the need for a system to distinguish genuine titles to preserve the integrity of the Igbo traditional institution. He also defended the practice of crowning multiple Ezendigbo in a locality due to high population demands and denied involvement in controversies surrounding the Obi of Lagos, expressing confusion over his arrest and the accusations against him.

Many members of the Ndigbo community have questioned the validity of the charges against him, stating the crowning is strictly an Igbo matter. The detention of Chief Sunday Udeh appears to have given rise to an uproar as to how Igbos are being treated in Lagos especially since the last 2023 General Elections where it is perceived that Igbos have maliciously chosen other presidential candidates from other parties rather than the candidate from the ruling party APC whom must have anticipated massive support from residents of Lagos State regardless of the tribe.

This situation, Igbos assume, has led to multiple arrests of Igbo leaders and residents over settleable issues that warrant clear explanations, as seen in recent times when Chief Sunday Udeh issued a certificate of approval to install the Obi of Lagos, which simply means the leader of Igbos in Lagos.

The various Igbo leaders from diverse local governments in Lagos called Ezendigbo are simply created to chaperone the Igbos in a particular jurisdiction particularly to ensure that they abide by the laws of Lagos State as non-indegenes.

The recent situation which gave rise to the arrest and detention of Chief Sunday Udeh and others at the Order of a Lagos State High court, over alleged issuance of Certificate and coronation of an Obi Of Lagos State further fueled the suspicion of anarchy melted out on the Igbos without listening ears by the authorities on what these titles truly mean.

To counter a recent publication flying around describing Chief Sunday Udeh's leadership as an unusual, problematic and controversial one, it is worthy of note that Chief Udeh faces significant criticism from Eze Ndigbo leaders for his controversial commercialisation of Eze Ndigbo titles in Lagos, prompting silent sympathy from some beneficiaries due to fear of backlash. Many Ezes accuse him of jeopardising longstanding Igbo customs and creating fake Ezeship kingdoms, inciting tension within the community. They claim he has sold titles to questionable characters, resulting in multiple Eze Ndigbo title holders across various localities, such as Amuwo Odofin and Ibeju Lekki, undermining the integrity of the traditional institution.

It should be noted that Chief Sunday Udeh is not the only President General of the Igbo-speaking community who crowned the lots in Eze-ship; his predecessors also crowned a good number of Ezes in Lagos, while the other arm of the sociocultural organisation, namely 'Ohaneze Ndigbo', also coronated many Ezes too. His tenure only just officially began after his former rivalry partner, Chief Sunday Eze, stepped down for him to emerge through a peaceful resolution. Many of the Igbo leaders (Ezendigbo) in Lagos are old timers who've served in their capacity in Lagos state as the mouthpiece of the Igbos to ensure they do not trespass in another man's land.

The publication titled "OBI OF LAGOS: Discordant Tones, As Many Ezes Jubilate, Some Sympathise, Others Accuse Detained Igbo Speaking President General, Chief Sunday Udeh, Of Abuse Of Customs, Mischievous Commercialising Eze Ndigbo Title In Lagos State" is not only malicious but orchestrated to smear the name of Chief Sunday Udeh by embittered Ndigbo who have no relevance in uplifting the sociocultural organisation "Igbo Speaking Community" but forget that this situation might become theirs tomorrow if not addressed.

The next hearing at the Lagos State High Court in the case of Chief Sunday Udeh and the others, stipulated for November 17, 2025, is anticipated to ascertain the facts of the situation on the ground in favour of a fair hearing.

Governor Sanwo-olu Calls for Stronger Global Partnership to Combat Human Trafficking, Migrant Smuggling

By Naomi Onome

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has called for deeper global collaboration and shared accountability in tackling the rising scourge of migrant smuggling and human trafficking across African and European routes.

He made the call while delivering his opening remarks at the 2-day Joint Thematic Meeting of the Rabat, Khartoum, and Niamey Processes, held at the Lagos Continental Hotel, Victoria Island.

The high-level continental meeting, themed “Enhancing Prevention, Protection and Prosecution Frameworks in Combating Migrant Smuggling and Trafficking in Human Beings along African and European Routes, brought together representatives of African governments, European partners, and international agencies working on migration management and human rights protection.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Mr. Mobolaji Ogunlede, described the gathering as a pivotal moment in the collective journey toward safeguarding human dignity and advancing humane, coordinated migration governance.

“We are here for a crucial cause: to strengthen our shared commitment against migrant smuggling and human trafficking. Two serious offenses that put lives at risk, destabilize communities, and strip away human dignity,” the Governor said.

Citing statistics from Europol, he noted that nearly 90 percent of irregular migration to Europe is facilitated by smuggling networks or criminal syndicates that prey on human vulnerability, exposing migrants, especially women and children to exploitation, forced labour, and sexual abuse.

He commended the Rabat, Khartoum, and Niamey Processes for serving as vital continental platforms linking governments, organizations, and partners in a transregional network of response, stressing that the challenges of migration evolve across borders and require constant adaptation and cooperation.

“As the current Chair of the Rabat Process, Nigeria stands at the forefront of the Euro-African dialogue on migration and development. And Lagos State, as a global city that symbolizes resilience, opportunity, and mobility, reaffirms its commitment to lead by example,” Sanwo-Olu stated.

He explained that Lagos is actively integrating migration management into its broader human development strategies, strengthening institutions, and expanding partnerships with federal and international agencies, including the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI).

Highlighting the three central pillars of the meeting - Prevention, Protection, and Prosecution, Sanwo-Olu underscored the importance of addressing root causes such as poverty, insecurity, and climate-induced displacement, while ensuring that victims receive care, justice, and rehabilitation.

“This fight is not just about enforcement; it is about fostering hope. People migrate in search of dignity and better opportunities. Our collective responsibility is to make those dreams attainable through safe, legal, and humane pathways,” he added.

The Governor emphasized that no nation can address the crisis of trafficking and smuggling in isolation, calling on all delegates to transform political commitments into concrete, measurable actions that protect the most vulnerable and dismantle criminal networks.

While formally declaring the Joint Thematic Meeting open, Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation to the NCFRMI, international partners, and all delegates present, describing their work as a beacon of hope for thousands who are vulnerable, displaced, or exploited.

Representing the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Prof. Nentawe G. Yilwatda, the Honourable Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), Hon. Tijjani Aliyu Ahmed, reaffirmed Nigeria’s leadership role in promoting humane migration governance across Africa and Europe.

He noted that Nigeria, as Chair of the Rabat Process, remains deeply committed to ensuring safe and regular migration while combating trafficking in persons and smuggling of migrants.

The Minister revealed that through the NCFRMI and in partnership with international organizations such as the IOM and UNHCR, Nigeria continues to receive no fewer than 150 returnees weekly from North Africa, many of whom have survived trafficking or smuggling ordeals.

According to him, “migration, when well-managed, is a force for development but when left in the hands of traffickers and smugglers, it becomes a tragedy. Our responsibility as governments and partners is to make sure migration remains safe, regular, orderly and dignified”.

The Minister commended Lagos for hosting the high-level meeting, describing the city as a symbol of opportunity, resilience, and compassion, aptly recognised by the UNHCR as a Refugee Friendly City.

He also applauded the State Government’s pioneering efforts in establishing one of Nigeria’s first State Anti-Trafficking Task Forces, which continues to serve as a model for inter-agency collaboration and community-based action.

He expressed appreciation to the International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), the Government of France, and other partners for their steadfast support, pledging that Nigeria will continue to work closely with member states to transform shared commitments into tangible results that protect human lives and strengthen justice systems across borders.

Also delivering remarks were key international and regional dignitaries, including the Ambassador of the European Union to Nigeria and ECOWAS, H.E. Gautier Mignot; ECOWAS Head of Social Affairs Division, Fernando Jorge Alves d’Almanda; Head of Region–Pan Africa, International Centre for Migration Policy Development (ICMPD), Monica Zanette; Nigeria Representative at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), Cheik Ousmane Toure; and Ambassador in charge of Migration, Ambassador Cyrille Baumgartner.

Other notable attendees included the Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and top officials of the Lagos State Government, alongside representatives from international development agencies and civil society groups.

South-West Arewa Community for Asiwaju 2027 Applauds President Tinubu, Sanwo-olu and South-West Governors as Food Prices Drop in Major Markets

By Naomisophyblog

The South-West Arewa Community for Asiwaju 2027 has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the remarkable decline in food prices across major markets in Lagos and other parts of the South-West. The group described the development as a “testament to the Renewed Hope Agenda working in real time to stabilize the economy and restore confidence in governance.”

In a statement issued in Lagos, the group also commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, Chairman of the South-West Governors’ Forum, and his counterparts across the zone for complementing the Federal Government’s reforms with people-centred market initiatives that have eased the cost of living for traders and consumers.

Findings from key markets such as Mile 12 International Market, Oyingbo, Ile-Epo, Balogun, Agege, and Abule Egba Markets revealed a significant reduction in the prices of staple foods. A 50kg bag of local rice now sells for about ₦58,000 (down from ₦61,500); a bag of foreign rice costs between ₦78,000 and ₦82,000 (previously ₦95,000); a 60kg bag of garri now ranges between ₦37,500 and ₦40,000 (down from ₦45,000); a 100kg bag of beans costs about ₦145,000 (down from ₦170,000); a big basket of tomatoes now sells for ₦35,000 (down from ₦120,000); and a 25-litre gallon of groundnut oil is now ₦41,000 (from ₦47,000). These price drops coincide with the strengthening of the naira, now trading around ₦1,460–₦1,520 per dollar.

In his remarks, Alhaji Shehu Usman “Sampam”, who serves as the Director-General of the South-West Arewa Community for Asiwaju 2027, Chairman of Mile 12 International Market, and Member of the Lagos State Markets Advisory Council, hailed President Tinubu and Governor Sanwo-Olu for their steadfast commitment to economic recovery and market stabilization.

> “The current stability and decline in food prices reflect the positive impact of President Tinubu’s leadership and Governor Sanwo-Olu’s proactive market interventions,” Alhaji Usman said. “We are witnessing the gradual restoration of economic balance and public confidence in our markets.”

He appealed to food vendors, restaurants, and hoteliers to reciprocate this progress by reducing their prices in line with current market realities.

> “We appeal to all food vendors, eateries, and hotels to review their menus and prices downward,” he urged. “When food items become cheaper in the market, it should reflect on the dining tables of citizens. We must collectively promote fairness and empathy in business.”

Alhaji Usman further assured that as responsible market leaders, the South-West Arewa Community for Asiwaju 2027 would continue to monitor market trends, upload regular price updates, and alert the government immediately if any artificial scarcity, hoarding, or exploitative pricing is observed.

> “As leaders, we owe it to our people to ensure transparency and accountability in market operations,” he added. “We will keep updating the public on price movements and will immediately inform authorities if we observe any loopholes that could reverse these gains.”

The statement reaffirmed the group’s unflinching loyalty to President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and the South-West Governors’ Forum. It pledged continued collaboration with market unions, community leaders, and policymakers to sustain the gains of the Renewed Hope Agenda and ensure inclusive growth across all social classes.

> “The Renewed Hope Agenda is producing tangible results,” the DG concluded. “We stand firmly with President Tinubu, Governor Sanwo-Olu, and the South-West Governors’ Forum as partners in progress toward shared prosperity for all Nigerians.”

Rewriting the Narrative: LIFE Partners with Experts and Faith Leaders to Champion Safe Abortion Awareness in Nigeria

By Naomi Onome

At a powerful gathering on October 16, 2025, in Lagos, the Leadership Initiative for Youth Empowerment (LIFE) convened medical professionals, clerics, community leaders, and youth advocates for a panel discussion to transform public discourse on abortion in Nigeria. The event, themed “Transforming Narratives, Empowering Care,” tackled deep-rooted misconceptions, legal misunderstandings, and the urgent need for compassionate, evidence-based awareness campaigns.

Abortion in Nigeria: Legal but Restricted
One of the central messages of the panel was clear: abortion is not illegal in Nigeria; it is restricted to specific health indications, particularly when the life of the woman is at risk. Yet widespread misinformation continues to fuel stigma, fear, and silence. Dr Ngozi Nwosu of Vision Spring Initiative emphasised that within Nigeria’s legal framework, medical professionals are permitted to perform abortions to save lives.
“We must stop living in denial,” she said. “Unsafe abortion is a public health crisis, and the records are alarming.”

Unsafe Abortion: A Preventable Tragedy
Dr Modupe Adedeji, consultant gynaecologist and Lagos sector secretary of the Society of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists of Nigeria (SOGON), highlighted the medical realities that often necessitate abortion, such as dangerously high blood pressure, foetal death, and mental health instability. She stressed that safe abortion, when performed by skilled professionals, can be life-saving.
“We need to build a road to safe abortion,” she said. “Especially in rural communities where teenage pregnancies and misinformation are rampant.”
Her call to action included extending awareness campaigns to underserved areas and encouraging women to consult healthcare providers, understand their rights, and seek support from trusted networks.

Breaking Myths, Building Understanding
Dr Sholakunmi Olusanya of Action Health Incorporated (AHI) underscored the importance of prevention and education. She pointed to global examples where early SRH education has reduced teenage pregnancies and improved health outcomes.
“If we don’t equip young people with accurate information, how do we expect them to make safe choices?” she asked.
Meanwhile, Damilola Danbaba of the Centre for Bridging Health Gaps (CBHGaps) addressed the shifting media landscape. He noted that while abortion is increasingly discussed online, misinformation remains rampant.
“Abortion is not a moral failure, it’s a health issue,” he said. “Social media can be a tool for truth, if we use it wisely.”
Danbaba emphasised the power of storytelling and strategic language in reframing abortion narratives, especially among young people.

Faith, Culture, and Community: A Call for Synergy
The panel also explored the role of religious and traditional leaders in shaping public opinion. Participants agreed that faith should be a source of compassion, not condemnation. Engaging clerics and community elders in sensitisation efforts was seen as vital to dismantling stigma and promoting safe care.
Dr Ngozi reiterated that many women seeking abortions are not irresponsible; they are mothers, wives, and survivors navigating complex realities. She called for safe spaces where young girls facing poverty, abuse, or rape can access care without fear.

Toward a National Reorientation
The session concluded with a shared commitment to amplify accurate information, prevent unwanted pregnancies, and protect access to safe abortion services. Participants called for:
Context-sensitive education
Strategic use of social media
Collaboration with religious and community leaders
Expansion of rural outreach
Protection of health workers acting in good faith

Watch and Share: The Public Health Perspective
To further the campaign, LIFE recommends sharing this powerful video featuring three Nigerian doctors who speak candidly about abortion as a public health issue. Their insights highlight the consequences of limited access to safe services and the strain unsafe abortions place on the healthcare system.

Unsafe abortion is preventable. Compassionate communication, legal reform, and community education can save lives. Let’s build a future where every woman has access to safe, dignified care.

CrimeNDLEA Launches Online Portal For Drug Integrity Test, Visa Clearance Certificate by onochurch(op): 1:04pm On Oct 21, 2025
NDLEA launches online portal for drug integrity test, visa clearance certificate
. System part of efforts to streamline operations, remove bottlenecks and curb drug scourge, says Marwa

By Naomisophyblog

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has launched a digital platform that will make its drug integrity test and visa clearance processes seamless, more accessible and ultimately curb the scourge of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria.

The portal was unveiled at a press conference to flag off the digitization of the Agency’s Drug Integrity Test and Visa E-Administration System (DITViCAS) on Tuesday 21st October 2025 in Abuja where the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer Brig Gen Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd) declared that the symbolic launch signifies “a paradigm shift in our fight against the scourge of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking, a moment where enforcement meets efficiency, and commitment merges with cutting-edge technology.”

Marwa who was represented by the Agency’s Secretary Shadrach Haruna said in line with the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Agency has maintained an aggressive, balanced, and uncompromising approach to tackling the scourge of illicit substances, with focus on two critical fronts: Drug Supply Reduction and Drug Demand Reduction.

“For years, the process of obtaining an NDLEA Visa Clearance Certificate, required by certain source and transit countries, has been characterized by documentation, physical appearances, and lengthy verification cycles. This manual process was no doubt prone to human interference, delays, and a host of other issues.

“With the flag-off of the Online Visa Clearance Portal today, we are bringing an end to those bottlenecks. The system delivers automation across all processes and operations associated with the administration of the Drug Integrity Test and Visa Clearance with interfaces for effective collaboration with partner agencies.

“It is also important to note that we have made provision on the system for private medical centres to partner with the agency as accredited centres for Drug Integrity Test. The system brings efficiency, flexibility and convenience to the process. Following this ceremony, applicants for Drug Integrity Test and Visa Clearance can now apply from home and choose any preferred location and book a date convenient and available for both applicant and the desk officer of the NDLEA without having to go and wait the whole day at the NDLEA office.

“With the E-Certification and Verification system, it also eliminates drug and visa clearance certificate falsifications and establishes the reliability and transparency of the process with supervisory dashboards across our commands, formations and at the headquarters.

The extension of the service to students of tertiary institutions, and others is to significantly foster drug demand reduction across the country without any attempt to stigmatize any student or anyone, while our rehabilitation and counselling centres are open for those who test positive to ensure that no one is left without care.”

Speaking further on the essence of the platform, the NDLEA boss explained that “the portal integrates sophisticated background check protocols, ensuring that the certificate remains a robust security instrument that safeguards Nigeria’s international reputation and prevents drug syndicates from exploiting legitimate travel channels. This is a commitment to the Nigerian citizen: a commitment to stress-free, integrity-driven public service delivery.

“All applicants need to do is logon to the portal (www.drugandvisa.ndlea.gov.ng), create an account and apply from anywhere and book appointment at any available centre for either Drug Integrity Test or Visa Clearance, while the system generates drug test certificates on the spot as the desk officer completes the testing process and reports the result, with the Visa Clearance process completed within three days or maximum a week in peculiar circumstances.”

He said the Agency’s primary mission is to save lives, hence its advocacy for the Drug Integrity Test founded on a principle of prevention, rather than punishment, adding that it is an early-warning system designed to help individuals who may be experimenting with substances, giving them an opportunity for intervention and treatment before dependence sets in.

According to him, “This new digital portal allows institutions, organizations, and individuals—including parents and prospective couples—to apply for drug integrity tests seamlessly. It provides a verified, standardized, and secure process for testing and issuing certificates. It is a non-judgmental pathway designed to support our national drive for Demand Reduction, fostering healthier communities, safer workplaces, and a more secure national labour force. This is the future of our War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign—proactive, compassionate, and data-driven.

“This initiative is a proof that the NDLEA is committed to leveraging the power of technology to combat the evolving complexities of drug trafficking and abuse. It is part of a broader strategy to digitize all our operations, ensuring our processes are modern, secure, and world-class. The war against drug abuse is one we must win for the sake of our youth, our families, and the future of our nation. With technology as our ally, we are better equipped, stronger, and more resolved than ever before.

”He urged all stakeholders to embrace the new change and utilize the new platform fully because its success is a shared responsibility.

Femi Babafemi,Director, Media & Advocacy NDLEA Headquarters, Abuja related this report to the press Tuesday 21st October 2025.

According to Nwokedi, Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu, during the presentation event, urged Ndigbo to foster harmony and understanding amongst themselves and other tribes, stressing the value of peaceful coexistence. Nwokedi stressed that the Igbo values of resilience and hard work should be complemented by a commitment to peace and harmony.

"Every Igbo has a reputation for resilience and hard work, and these values should be complemented by a commitment to peace and harmony," he said, advising incoming chiefs to be good ambassadors to their families and community at large.

Eze Nwokedi, who is also the Eze Ndigbo of the Ijegun and Ijeododo communities, further advised Ndigbo to be aware of their behaviour and act in a way that fosters understanding and peace. He urged newly appointed chiefs to be peace ambassadors, highlighting that the nation's progress depends on harmonious coexistence.

His message to the new chiefs was that their honour would bring additional honour and will yield good benefits from the land they dwell in if they stand for the truth and obey the laws and regulations that govern the land. Along with thanking his cabinet for fostering peace and harmony, Nwokedi also thanked everyone who helped the Ndigbo community at the New Yam Festival.

He remarked, "I pray that God will continue to protect and bless the Ndigbo people in whatever they do, and that the honour bestowed upon the new chiefs will not bring shame and disgrace but rather will bring more honour, and we shall all eat the fruit of this land." Eze C.C. Nwokedi went on to thank his cabinet colleagues for making sure that Ndigbo, both inside and outside of the Ijegun and Ijedodo communities, coexist peacefully and harmoniously with the Yoruba community. He urged them to avoid anything that could lead to social unrest.

In appreciation, Nze Collins Nwosu (Onowu Obi Udo) praised Eze Chika Nwokedi for seeing him as deserving and bestowing a chieftaincy title. With the certificate in hand, he said he will make sure that peace and togetherness remain his guiding principles and help the Ndigbo community in Lagos State flourish.

Hon. Chief Mrs Elizabeth Nwakata (Akwa Ugo Nwanyi Lagos), while expressing gratitude, pledged to keep helping widows, the underprivileged, and women. She assured Eze Nwokedi of her unwavering support for the advancement of the Ndigbo in Lagos State and thanked him for the honour and opportunity.

Nwokedi's call underscores the significant role Igbo people can play in promoting stability and peace in their host communities. The event highlighted the importance of unity and peaceful coexistence, reflecting positively on Nigeria's cultural diversity and social fabric.

However, the awarding of certificates was the event's high point.

Note that key points from Eze Chika Nwokedi's message include:

*Peaceful Coexistence: Nwokedi encouraged Ndigbo to foster understanding and harmony among themselves and with other tribes.

*Role of New Chiefs: Incoming Chiefs were advised to be good ambassadors, standing for truth and obeying laws governing their land.

*Community Harmony: He thanked his cabinet for promoting peace between the Ndigbo community and the Yoruba community in Lagos.

*Community Service: New titleholders like Nze Collins Nwosu and Hon. Chief Mrs Elizabeth Nwakata pledged to promote peace and support community development.

PoliticsHuman Rights Advocate Calls For Accountability And Scrutiny Of Akpabio's Conduct by onochurch(op): 5:21pm On Oct 19, 2025
Human rights advocate calls for accountability and scrutiny of Akpabio's conduct over public allegation by Pat

By Naomi Onome

The controversy surrounding Senate President Godswill Akpabio is indeed generating significant buzz, with his sister-in-law, Pat Akpabio, making serious allegations against him. Pat, who is married to Akpabio's brother Ibanga, has publicly accused the Senate President of misconduct, including involvement in unresolved killings during his tenure as Akwa Ibom State Governor.

According to human rights advocate Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, the Senate President, Akpabio, has also been accused of embezzlement by the EFCC and has been running from post to post to avoid prosecution. He added that Akpabio's wife, Ekaette Unoma Akpabio, has been defending her husband, Godswill Akpabio, against allegations of molestation and attempted rape levied against him by both sis-in-law Pat Akpabio and Natasha's claims. The accusation was made in both English and local dialects, and netizens have interpreted it to be a sign of his questionable character.

Iche said some key points to note from Pat's allegations include: Accusations of Murder: Pat claims Akpabio was involved in killings during his governorship, and she's warned she'd reveal more if he doesn't step down; Betrayal - She alleges Akpabio betrayed political allies like Umana Okon Umana and Nsima Ekere; Neglect of Hometown - Pat says Akpabio's hometown, Ukana Ikot Ntuen, lacks basic amenities like electricity despite his influential position; Family Feud – That Akpabio family appears divided, with Pat and her husband, Ibanga, at odds with the Senate President.

Looking back at Akpabio's questionable history in the political sphere Iche noted that Akpabio has held various posts before becoming the Senate President, including governor of his state and minister under Buhari. After becoming the governor, he faced accusations of embezzlement and had to evade EFCC invitations or detention. His last appearance was when his lawyer claimed he travelled out of the country for a medical checkup. And after the election, President Tinubu immediately nominated him to be the Senate President.

Iche further said,

"Akpabio has faced numerous accusations and counter-accusations, including alleged sexual harassment and bribery. If Nigerian leaders had conscience, Akpabio could have resigned or stepped aside honourably."

"The Natasha issue could have ended an era for the Senate President; now Pat has come out to say so much which was debunked yet true. Is it not better for Godswill Akpabio to tender his resignation and save his face from further embarrassment?"

In addition, Iche advised that the Senate President's wife, as usual, address the public through national mediums to defend her husband against these accusations or advise him to resign honourably. Iche calls for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's timely intervention to address the atrocities committed by those who are bent on making his administration futile.

In conclusion, Iche alleged that the Senate President, Akpabio, has been accused of embezzlement, bribery, and other issues that have led to his downfall. It is crucial for the Senate President to step aside and face the consequences of his actions.

However, Akpabio's spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, has dismissed these claims as baseless and politically motivated, urging Pat to report any evidence to security agencies instead of airing grievances on social media.

It's also worth noting that there are reports of previous accusations against Akpabio, including allegations of molestation and embezzlement by the EFCC, though there's no indication of convictions.

The situation has sparked calls for accountability and scrutiny of Akpabio's conduct, with some questioning how he maintains public office amid these allegations.

Desist from using "Royal Highness" – Leadership of Igbo-Speaking Community warns Eze Ndigbo title holders in Lagos

...says it is contrary to the provisions of the community's constitution

By Naomi Onome

In a press statement signed by Chief Jonathan Nnaji, Chairman, BoT Igbo Speaking Community, and Chief Sunday Ude, President, Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos, to all members and stakeholders, it is stated that through information, some members, who hold the title of EZE NDIGBO, have been violating the community's constitution.

The community's main goal is to preserve culture and traditions, promote peaceful coexistence with the host community, and respect the laws and customs of Lagos State. Following the recent unlikely situation, an emergency meeting was convened, and the following resolutions were unanimously adopted:

Abrogation of "Royal Highness" or "Royal Majesty" title: All EZE NDIGBO are advised to desist from using the prefix "Royal Highness" or "Royal Majesty" to their titles.

Consequences of misrepresentation: Any EZE NDIGBO who continues to use the title "Royal Highness" or "Royal Majesty" will be deemed to be acting contrary to the provisions of the community's constitution, and the Igbo Speaking Community in Lagos will not be held liable for any consequences arising from such actions.

Non-Recognition of "Obi of Lagos" Title: Any individual who claims to hold such a title does so without the authority or recognition of the Igbo-speaking community in Lagos and is solely responsible for any consequences arising from such actions.

The community urges all Igbo residents in Lagos to continue living in peace and harmony with the host community and other ethnic groups. They also advise caution when purchasing properties or land in Lagos, verifying ownership authenticity and ensuring compliance with Lagos State laws.

HealthLIFE Project Launch Aims To Address Abortion Myths And Improve Health Workers' A by onochurch(op): 4:22pm On Oct 15, 2025
LIFE project launch aims to address abortion myths and improve health workers' attitudes in Lagos State.

...says the project will champion the fight for truth, dignity and women's lives.

By Naomi Onome

According to a recent study by the Leadership Initiative for Youth Empowerment (LIFE), women's health is seriously at risk due to abortion misinformation, since many women face stigma, silence, and dangerous circumstances when attempting to obtain abortion care. According to LIFE, this problem is not just caused by ambiguous legislation but also by intricate institutional, cultural, and religious prejudices that can skew public perception and affect how medical professionals react.

LIFE reveals up to 40% of maternal health issues in Nigeria are caused by botched abortions; poor or rural women are more vulnerable to risky procedures and repercussions. Furthermore, prejudices based on culture and religion also affect how people perceive abortion, fostering a culture of shame and fear that deters women from talking about their experiences or seeking assistance.

However, health professionals, who are meant to be reliable partners in defending women's health, frequently experience stigma around abortion, which influences their readiness to offer safe abortion or post-abortion care. To protect women's safety and dignity, it is essential to keep personal beliefs and professional commitments apart.

Following the recent findings, the Leadership Initiative for Youth Empowerment (LIFE) has launched a project to correct abortion myths and improve health workers' attitudes. The initiative includes workshops, strategic communication campaigns, and capacity-building sessions for frontline providers.

LIFE says combating abortion misinformation in Lagos, Nigeria, is a multifaceted challenge that demands attention in areas such as cultural, religious, and institutional biases affecting women's health. The consequences of misinformation are dire, contributing to unsafe abortions that account for up to 40% of maternal health problems in Nigeria, with the country recording about 75,000 maternal deaths in 2023 – nearly 29% of global maternal fatalities.

Dr Oluwafemi Sholaja, in relation to the project, emphasised the need for clear, empathetic, and accurate messaging among health workers and across society. A 2023 survey of 200 women in Lagos and Abuja revealed disparities in abortion safety, with 44.7% classified as "most unsafe". Women living in severe poverty were more likely to face unsafe abortions and complications. Meanwhile, Dr Matthea Roemer stresses viewing abortion safety through an equity lens, emphasising policies for safe, client-centred services, including post-abortion care and mental health support.

Other health workers and community advocates emphasise the need for change within communities, not just policy or healthcare systems. Nigeria's outdated abortion laws, based on outdated colonial laws, lead to misinformation and fear among health workers. Public health advocates emphasise the need for clear rules and better access to post-abortion care to save lives.

Ultimately, addressing abortion misinformation requires collaboration, empathy, and truth to protect women's lives and dignity in Lagos and across Nigeria.

Council of Ndi Eze Igbo Validates Eze Chika Nwokedi as Ezendigbo of Lagos State

By Naomi Onome

Following the passing of the late Hyacinth Ohazuruike, the Apex Council of Ndieze has approved Eze Chika C. Nwokedi for the open post of Ezendigbo in Lagos State.

Citing his reputation and unwavering honesty, the council approved his appointment at its October 11, 2025, meeting in Lagos State. Over 40 members of the State's LCDA have mainly supported Eze Okpoko's nominations; meanwhile, Chukwuakalikamadu, Nwoye, Offia, and Nwajagu declined their nominations to make room for Nwokedi, who has been praised for genuinely loving Ndigbo and as an incredible philanthropist over the years.

Eze Okpoko 1, whose real name is Eze Chika Nwokedi, is well-known due to his outstanding leadership, culture preservation, and persistent dedication to humanitarianism and peace. In his capacity as Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Ndi Eze Igbo, he has shown insight, foresight, and commitment in fostering social cohesion, promoting Igbo culture, and furthering socioeconomic advancement. Through the Ndi Igbo Buru Otu Association of Nigeria and his leadership at Ladipo Market, he has empowered generations, built bridges across social and cultural boundaries, and strengthened communities.

As a royal father, cultural supporter, and humanitarian leader, Eze Chika Nwokedi has received several accolades that embody the principles of honour, kindness, and service to others. After years of continuous conflicts between warring factions, he recently showed his peace by diligently working with important parties to restore peace in Lagos' Igbo-speaking community. Through the Eze Okpoko Foundation, which aids the weak and impoverished, he has impacted many lives and provided support to those who are less privileged in the society.

Eze Chika Nwokedi's reputation as a humanitarian leader and his achievements, including receiving awards like the BAAF Awards for philanthropy, underscore why he's considered a strong fit for the Ezendigbo role.

With the support of Ezendigbo Gburugburu in Lagos State, it is probable that Eze Chika Nwokedi was summoned to higher service as Ezendigbo, Lagos State, to carry on what he knows best.

As of the time of this report, Eze Chika Nwokedi has not made any comment yet regarding his endorsement; Naomisophyblog still awaits his response to update the public.

Three Nigerian Ladies Rescued from Mali Highlight Sex Trafficking Ordeal

By Naomisophyblog

Three young Nigerian ladies have been rescued from Mali, where they were allegedly held against their will and forced into sex slavery.

The operation was carried out through the collaboration of the Global Anti-Human Trafficking Organization (GAHTO) and the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Lagos State Command.

The rescue was coordinated by Comrade Prosper Kayode, founder of GAHTO, who has been at the forefront of the campaign against human trafficking in Nigeria and across Africa.

The victims—identified as Blessing from Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State, Basira from Badagry, Lagos, and Zinop from Igando, Alimosho, Lagos—recounted their ordeal after being lured with promises of lucrative jobs abroad.

According to them, the journey began at Alimosho, Igando, through an agent known as Pamela, a Ghanaian woman who arranged their travel. From Igando, they were moved through Yanoba and Mile 2 and later ferried by boat through waterways close to Cotonou, Benin Republic, before being taken to Mali.

At every stop, the traffickers already had their photographs and fake identity cards prepared to facilitate the illegal crossings. The victims said it was at that point they realised they had been sold into modern-day slavery.

The young women, speaking in tears, described their ordeal as horrifying and begged the government to intensify efforts to stop human trafficking and rescue more girls still trapped in foreign countries.

Speaking after the rescue, Comrade Prosper Kayode decried the growing rate of trafficking of young Nigerian girls to other African nations.

> “The trafficking of young Nigerian girls to other African countries is getting out of hand and must be urgently stopped,” Comrade Prosper Kayode emphasized. “We cannot keep silent while our sisters and daughters are being exploited in foreign lands. This must end.”

He added that there are even other victims still battling for survival, citing the example of one young girl from Benue State who is currently down and in critical condition as a result of the trauma she suffered while in captivity.

“This Benue girl’s condition is a sad reminder that this trade destroys lives. We must all rise to fight it,” he said.

Comrade Prosper Kayode commended NAPTIP Lagos for their collaboration in rescuing the three victims and urged the federal and state governments to support full rehabilitation and empowerment programmes for all rescued survivors.

The three rescued girls are now in safe custody, receiving counselling and rehabilitation support under NAPTIP and other partner agencies.

Human rights advocate tasks federal government on school reforms across the nation

By Naomi Onome

This brief by Comrade Prince Saviour Iche of Ambassadors of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation addresses the concerning issue of Nigeria's highest rate of school dropouts, largely due to government inaction in providing adequate educational infrastructure.

Iche says many government schools remain from colonial times, with new constructions absent, forcing parents to send their children to distant private schools, which often prioritise profit over educational quality. The burden of high fees, frequent changes in textbooks, and costly graduation parties exacerbates the problem, Iche noted.

He further said,

"Many parents opt for nearby private schools due to concerns about transport and safety for their children. However, these schools often prioritise profit over academic excellence, with high fees that warrant scrutiny.

"Additionally, they frequently change required textbooks each term, making it impossible for families to reuse books among siblings, further burdening parents financially. In contrast, previous generations could easily obtain necessary textbooks from bookshops or markets and pass them down among siblings."

Raising concerns about graduation-related expenses, particularly regarding end-of-the-year parties, which are viewed as extortion due to the pressure on parents to pay excessive amounts, Iche calls for the government to eliminate graduation ceremonies, as well as customised exercise books and notebooks.

He urged the minister of education Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, governors, senators, and the president to implement measures at a national level to reduce unnecessary expenses in schools. Additionally, more schools should be built in communities to provide easier access for parents and children, as many currently rely on distant private schools due to the scarcity of local government schools.

Citing recent laws in Anambra, Delta and Ekiti states banning customised school materials Iche highlights positive steps, urging the Minister of Education and state leaders to build more schools in accessible locations and eliminate unnecessary charges by private schools, which would encourage parents to enrol their children and reduce child labour.

Iche says Bayo Onanuga is a tribal bigot over remarks on Nnamdi Kanu's trial

By Naomi Onome

In this critique, Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a serial entrepreneur and human rights advocate with the Ambassadors of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation, charges that the Nigerian president's spokesperson, Bayo Onanuga, has shown personal animosity towards the Igbo ethnic group through his remarks.

Bayo Onanuga's comments have certainly sparked controversy, particularly regarding his perceived stance on Igbo issues and the Nnamdi Kanu case. Other critics, like the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA), accuse him of tribal bigotry and making statements that undermine national unity, pointing to past remarks, such as warning Igbos to stay out of Lagos politics in 2023, which they label as hate speech.

Onanuga's statement on Nnamdi Kanu's case, suggesting he'd receive judgement for his alleged offences, has raised concerns about judicial independence and external influence. Iche highlighted Kanu's prolonged trial and questioned whether external forces, possibly foreign forces, are driving the case given Kanu's British citizenship. He also shares concerns about the Tinubu administration's handling of Kanu's case, suggesting double standards in treatment based on ethnicity and political alignment.

Onanuga's statements about Nnamdi Kanu, Iche says, reflect a problematic attitude towards the judiciary, suggesting that it operates under external influence. However, Comrade Iche asserts that Kanu's legal struggles are not solely a domestic issue but are manipulated by foreign interests.

He further condemns Onanuga's role, claiming he undermines the integrity of the government by making premature judgements on ongoing legal matters and failing to represent all Nigerians equitably. Calls for accountability and warns that Onanuga's position is not permanent, emphasising the need for a spokesperson to rise above tribalism and bias....

Chronic Debtor Brendan Usoro’s Apologists Stage Unlawful Disruption
in Abuja...

.… Bank Swiftly Restores Normal Operations

By Naomisophyblog

Abuja, Nigeria

In what appears to be yet another desperate attempt to evade
repayment of long-outstanding debts upheld by multiple court judgments, Dr. Brendan Innocent Usoro and his company, Miden Systems Limited, have been linked to an unlawful protest staged on Wednesday, October 8, 2025, at the Central Business District in Abuja.

A group of individuals claiming to represent a coalition of civil society organizations obstructed access to a Sterling Bank branch, chanting false allegations and distributing fabricated petitions designed to mislead the public about an ongoing legal matter.

There is also an existing Federal High Court order, which expressly prohibits Miden Systems and its affiliates from taking any steps or actions relating to the dispute with the Bank.

The intention was unmistakable: to weaponise misinformation and public theatrics in an attempt to intimidate the Bank and distort a matter already conclusively determined by the courts. The disturbance was swiftly contained by security agencies, and normal operations resumed almost immediately. At no point were customers, staff, or Bank property at risk.

“This reckless and contemptuous behavior by individuals who cited Dr. Usoro’s Miden Systems as a key reason for the disruption is a direct affront to the rule of law,”
said Michael Boniface, Chief Security Officer of Sterling Bank. “The Bank has maintained full restraint despite repeated provocation and will once again escalate this violation to law enforcement authorities for investigation and prosecution.”

Sterling Bank had previously petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, presenting
detailed evidence of Miden Systems’and Dr. Usoro’s sustained pattern of deceit,
defiance of court orders, and attempts to mislead the public through false claims and politically motivated interference. These petitions followed years of defaults on a vessel lease facility originally granted and later restructured multiple times to accommodate the debtor’s inability to repay.

In 2021, the Federal High Court issued a Mareva injunction against Dr.Usoro and Miden Systems after repeated defaults, culminating in a consent judgment that confirmed the debtor’s liability. That judgment, which remains binding, was again reaffirmed in November 2024, when the court dismissed a subsequent application by Miden Systems seeking to overturn it, describing their actions as an abuse of process.

Despite these clear judicial pronouncements, Dr. Usoro and Miden Systems have continuously sought to circumvent lawful enforcement by orchestrating smear campaigns, false publications and petitions to government bodies. This recent disruption by pseudo–civil society fronts seemingly mirrors previous attempts to
manipulate the National Assembly’s Committee on Public Petitions, a move the Federal High Court decisively condemned in its February 2025 ruling restraining the House of Representatives from further intimidating and harassing Sterling Bank.

That order reaffirms the constitutional separation of powers; that neither the legislature nor any private entity can override or re-litigate matters already conclusively decided by competent courts.

“The Bank has consistently relied on lawful processes and will continue to do
so,” Boniface added. “Integrity, discipline, and respect for judicial authority remain the pillars of our institution. We will continue to defend our hard earned reputation and protect our employees, customers and investors from individuals who weaponise falsehood to obstruct justice.”

Sterling Bank reiterates that it remains a trusted and responsible financial institution committed to transparency, ethical conduct, and sustainable business practices. The Bank will continue to cooperate with law enforcement agencies to ensure accountability and uphold the integrity of Nigeria’s financial system.

About Sterling Bank

National honours conferred on former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu is undeserving – Iche

By Naomi Onome

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, conferred on former INEC chairman Mahmood Yakubu a national honour of Commander of the Order of the Niger (CON) in recognition of his service, prompting questions about the appropriateness of this recognition.

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche joins many Nigerians who are critical of Yakubu, citing his failure to deliver on promises of a free and fair 2023 election. Despite extensive funding and assurances regarding the functionality of the BVAS and transparency in the electoral process, the election was deemed neither transparent nor credible.

Already, many Nigerians are questioning this honorary decision, given the controversies surrounding the 2023 elections, which Professor Yakubu oversaw. Promises of free and fair elections, transparency, and the use of technology like the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) didn't quite meet expectations, like issues with BVAS functionality and the timing of result announcements. The latest development has sparked mixed reactions among Nigerians; many are questioning the timing and rationale behind this award, especially considering the controversies surrounding the 2023 general elections that Professor Yakubu oversaw.

Iche critically highlighted the problematic announcement of results at midnight, leading to claims that Yakubu is one of the worst INEC chairmen there is. While the president has the authority to grant such awards, the timing and legitimacy of Yakubu’s honour have raised concerns among the public. Ultimately, the legitimacy of the award and Yakubu’s actions in office raise ethical questions that may weigh on his conscience as he transitions out of his role, Iche said.

Some perspectives on the conferment include:

Government's View: President Tinubu acknowledged Professor Yakubu's contributions to sustaining Nigeria's democracy, highlighting his role in organising elections.

Critics' View: Many Nigerians feel the award is undeserved, pointing to perceived shortcomings in the electoral process under his leadership, especially regarding the 2023 elections.

Conscience and Judgement: As you've noted, opinions vary; some believe Professor Yakubu's actions should be judged by his conscience and the Nigerian people.

According to the context of INEC chairmen, so far Nigeria has had several INEC chairmen since 1998, each with their achievements and challenges. Ephraim Akpata (1998-2000): Laid foundational work for INEC; Abel Guobadia (2000-2005): Implemented reforms; Maurice Iwu (2005-2010): Oversaw the 2007 elections marred by irregularities; Attahiru Jega (2010-2015): Known for credible elections in 2011 and 2015; Mahmood Yakubu (2015-2025): Led INEC through several elections, including 2023.

However, recent developments reveal Professor Mahmood Yakubu's tenure has ended, and President Tinubu has appointed Professor Bashiru Olamilekan as the new INEC Chairman, expected to shape Nigeria's future electoral processes.

Bella Amor Global Aid Foundation, in collaboration with the presidency, through the office of the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on school feeding, launched its nationwide Renewed Hope Mo'feed project on Wednesday, October 1st, 2025, at Festival Hotel in Lagos.

The Official Launch of the Renewed Hope Mo'Feed Project, Fundraising Gala & Humanitarian Award Night, which saw over 1000 guests in attendance, is designed to meet the essential need of school children with the aim to cushion hunger and empower families through the school feeding initiative by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. This initiative has expanded to building partnerships with sister bodies such as NGOs and individuals ready to partake in doing corporate social responsibilities to cater for vulnerable school children and women.

According to Mirabel Etuk, President and Founder of Bella Amor Global Aid, at the official launch of the Renewed Hope Mo'Feed Project, the initiative is aimed at a progressive Nigeria where no child goes to school hungry and families are empowered. The project, she says, aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, focusing on food security and poverty reduction.

She further stated that the Mo'Feed Project also aims to feed over 600,000 vulnerable Nigerians and restore dignity through compassion-driven initiatives. Etuk thanked the Presidency, particularly Dr Yetunde Adeniji, for their collaboration and urged for cooperative donations to support this transformative mission, highlighting the importance of collective action for a better future in Nigeria.

Hon. Dr Yetunde Adeniji, Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on the School Feeding Programme, noted that the renewed hope agenda by the president prioritises inclusivity, especially for children and the future of Nigeria. With 8 out of 10 children in rural areas facing malnutrition, the school feeding programme, initiated by the previous administration and continued by the current president, aims to address this critical issue.

She also stated that the school feeding initiative not only feeds children but also supports women and local farmers, promoting sustainability. In light of rising out-of-school rates, sponsorship and feeding programmes have successfully encouraged children to return to school; creating partnerships with various stakeholders for the programme's sustainability is urged. Hon. Yetunde emphasises the need for collective action to support this initiative and foster a brighter future for vulnerable communities, highlighting the positive impact on education, agriculture, and community well-being.

Dr Rotimi Fashola, the Senior Special Assistant to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, expressed optimism  in the Renewed Hope Agenda and the National Food Relief and Skills Empowerment Programme during the launch of the Mo'feed project in Lagos. He described the initiative as a significant endeavour aimed at ensuring that no individual in the community experiences hunger. The Mo'feed project, he says, is committed to providing nutritious meals to over 600,000 vulnerable Nigerians across various geopolitical zones, emphasising the importance of food as a symbol of duty and hope.

Dr Fashola highlighted the persistent issue of poverty and food insecurity faced by diverse communities in Lagos, stressing the government's dedication to improving livelihoods, empowering children through education, and enhancing food security. The Mo'feed project complements the Lagos State agricultural and food security roadmap, illustrating the effectiveness of partnerships among the government, private sector, faith-based organisations, and civil society in addressing social challenges with creativity and compassion.

He commended the visionaries and partners behind this initiative, urging collective effort in combating hunger and emphasising the importance of every citizen's role in fostering a society where hunger does not impede growth and dignity; the focus must shift from merely providing food aid to building resilience and empowering individuals. Dr Fashola added that the launch of the Mo'feed project signifies a new beginning and encouraged continuous nurturing of the initiative to ensure its positive impact on every community. He concluded by urging participation from all sectors to sustain these efforts, reinforcing the message that the fight against hunger requires collective responsibility.

Hon. Imran Usman Jubrin, Director General of the Investment Agency (NSSIA), representing the Nasarawa State governor, expressed appreciation for receiving the BAAF Award of Excellence from the Bella Amor Global Aid Foundation. He dedicated the award to the resilient people of Nasarawa State and all humanitarian workers. Jubrin emphasised the importance of selfless leadership and thanked the foundation for its commitment to aiding the vulnerable, particularly through an initiative to feed 9,000 residents, urging for cooperation and service dedication as pillars of progress to the nation. He expressed gratitude for the enlightenment demonstrated by Hon. Yetunde Adeniji, Senior Special Assistant to the President of Nigeria on the School Feeding Programme, during the occasion.

The Local Govt Chairman of Amuwo-Odofin LGA, Prince Lanre Sanusi, emphasises the importance of local government leadership in Nigeria, especially for extending progressive measures and supporting primary school students. Attendees of the event and the general public are invited to participate in the activities planned for the Renewed Hope Agenda in collaboration with the Mo'feed initiative, he said.

Akinwale Abidakun Tomtom, CEO and founder of Blue Mart Realty Limited, expressed gratitude to the Bella Amor Foundation for the humanitarian award and commended their initiatives, particularly the real food initiative and skill empowerment programmes. He said these efforts are crucial in addressing malnutrition and poverty in Nigeria and believes that more affluent individuals and organisations should support such initiatives.

Helen Usenekong represents the Akwa-Ibom FESTAC Forum, an association for Akwa-Ibom residents in Festac. She commended Mirabelle's initiative as a beautiful initiative that resonates with their community, as an 'akwaibomite'. She revealed that the forum is collaborating with Mirabel's initiative to showcase the Akwa Ibom State's heritage, which focuses on love and care for the less privileged. Usenekong encourages Mirabel Etuk, the convener of the Mo'feed initiative through her foundation, to continue her charitable work, assuring her that the good deeds will yield blessings. Additionally, she announces an upcoming culture and food fair on November 22 at Festac, inviting everyone to attend.

PoliticsGroup Seeks Federal Government Funding Intervention For The "Drop That Gun" Init by onochurch(op): 10:04am On Sep 28, 2025
Group seeks federal government funding intervention for the "Drop That Gun" initiative

...holds a nationwide campaign

By Naomi Onome

The Drop That Gun (DTG) initiative/campaign focuses on unity and the potential for a regeneration, transformation, and rebirth for Nigerian youths. It highlights the need for support from governments, individuals, and the private sector in Nigeria to reform talents often wasted and turned into criminal activities.

To address this issue, the DTG initiative is incorporating powerful dancers as ambassadors to begin the DTG Unity Dance Competition and young talents for the Unity Challenge Fashion Exercise in a bid to flag off a nationwide campaign. The campaign aims to build a Nigeria where there is peace and love between all ethnic groups, encourage talents, and eliminate tribalism and religious sentiments. The goal is to create a Nigeria that encourages talented youths for a better future.

The campaign has been in incubation since 2021 and has been presented to the EFCC for scrutiny with assurances that if the federal government invests in the project, the empowerment of youths will be done in transparency. However, in this context, politics have influenced the project's success; there are also issues of tribalism and religious sentiments. The nationwide campaign aims to make it known that promoting unity rather than interfering with unity is a noteworthy virtue which is in accordance with the mission and vision for the DTG initiative.

Speaking at a press conference held in LCCI Ikeja, Lagos, on Friday, September 26th, 2025, the Chief Strategist, DTG Project LTD, Modestus Bernard, reiterated that unity is the red oil Nigeria needs, and without it, acrimony sets in. He said the ruling class may not support unity, but the people around them should focus on ensuring unity prevails; moreover, the DTG team is seeking President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's support on the 'DTG' initiative.

The campaign, he says, also seeks to understand the policies and body language of the ruling class, which may be misleading. However, it is important to strike a balance between unity and political influence, ensuring that the country's future is brighter and more prosperous.

In Modesta's letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, he proposes unity and the promotion of social enterprise through fashion, entertainment, and social enterprise with adequate funding of N2,000,000,000 (2bn), estimated to be sufficient to kickstart the project. He highlights that 'Drop That Gun Project' is a multifaceted initiative with goals including promoting unity among Nigerians, engaging and empowering youths with jobs and opportunities, and redirecting talent away from crime towards creativity.

As a sign of leadership that transcends regional identities, the DTG initiators implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to ensure that the 65th Nigeria Independence Day Celebration is centred on unity. According to Modesta, adopting unity-inspired attire as a symbol of leadership transcending regional identities should be considered and further applied.

Modesta frames divisiveness as a fundamental problem impeding national progress and contends that unity is a powerful remedy for Nigeria's challenges, such as young despondency, poverty, and insecurity.

In addition, Modesta pointed out that the DTG Fashion Challenge seeks to create jobs and produce a lot of turnover; thus, it is crucial to provide transparency through EFCC oversight after the 2 billion loan request to fund the DTG initiative. There has reportedly been no reaction to the prior letter announcing the DTG initiative and requesting funds from the president; calls on the federal government to move forward with the project.

Mrs Omolara Faboyede – DTG Women of Peace – noted at the conference that Nigerians are faced with challenges such as hunger, unemployment, and crime. However, unity is seen as the real oil, as it creates jobs, inspires creativity, and makes crime unattractive. She noted that everyone, including celebrities, musicians, actors, comedians, athletes, and media personalities, is an influencer. Celebrities must rise to promote unity, creativity, and hope and help champion a society where disunity and crime are not glorified but relegated to the floor.

She said,

"The Drop That Gun (DTG) Project will unveil the Unity Challenge Fashion Exercise, inviting celebrities and influencers to wear a message that Unity Is The Real Oil. Participation will inspire millions, create jobs for young Nigerians, open doors to creativity, and silence the call of disunity and crime. Together, Nigeria can build a nation where unity becomes its culture, youth empowerment becomes pride, creativity becomes a global export, and crime is no longer attractive."

Emasa Onome Beauty, a young mother raising her son Vigour, lent her voice against the increasing number of Nigerian youths being arrested, prosecuted, and imprisoned for financial crimes. She believes that prevention is better than cure and that arrest and prosecution cannot solve the crisis alone. In her speech, she noted that the 'Drop That Gun Project', a social enterprise, aims to promote unity among Nigerians, create jobs and empowerment for millions of youths, and also make crime unattractive by giving dignity and income through creativity.

Emasa expressed optimism that in 12 months, one million people will wear DTG merchandise, turning over 30 billion Naira in business, and in 24 months, ten million people worldwide will join the DTG Peace Challenge, turning over 450 billion Naira.

Emasa emphasised that the EFCC must be involved in this project to ensure transparency, endorsement, and partnership with the DTG Team. Emasa urges the press to convey the DTG initiative to the EFCC Chairman, stating that Nigerian mothers are watching and that prevention is better than prosecution. She asks for the letter to live in the headlines, reports, and conscience of Nigerian leaders.

At the conference a couple who were discovered by the DTG team have been made ambassadors for their dance talent. It is said that the couple were reformed by the team after they were found pleading to be financially appreciated following their performance at a restaurant in Lagos. The DTG team took the initiative to create a reform for the talented couple by giving them an ambassadorial appointment as the official leaders of the Unity dance competition meant to foster unity.

Eze Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu rounded off the 'Iriji' cultural celebration with appreciation and gifts

... treat palace chiefs and supporters to a rendezvous of merriment

By Naomi Onome

The significant celebration tied to a cultural and personal milestone while marking the completion of 'iriji' and empowerment held on September 21st, 2025, in Ijegun, Lagos, has led to a generous gesture by Eze Chika Nwokedi, Ezendigbo of Ijegun Ijeododo, as he treats his cabinet chiefs and other supporters to a rendezvous of merriment.

The act of treating supportive members of the public to a feast is in line with the tradition of the 'iriji' festival, where sharing of food symbolises unity and gratitude. Moreover, the get-together as orchestrated by Eze Chika is meant to show appreciation to supportive chiefs and members of the Eze Okpoko Palace for playing an important role in ensuring a successful and productive event.

The monarch, Eze Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu, in his goodwill message reiterated that the abundant food, generous gifting of a 'one of its kind' traditional walking stick, presentation of awards accompanied by gold wristwatches, bags of rice, duvet and other items shared is inspired by his faith and personal conviction to gift deserving persons. He also emphasised that gifting as guided by his heart is a practice of over 30 years since his coming to Lagos.

However, after Eze Okpoko's coronation as an Igbo leader in Ijegun Ijeododo, he's been blending tradition with modern development while ensuring community development. His philanthropy spanned across the Ijegun-Ijeododo environs; it stemmed from empowering widows and transcended into empowering the less privileged financially. Moreover, motorcyclists known as 'okada men' in the Ijegun-Ijeododo environs have benefitted from free fuel several times as a way Eze Okpoko says he gives back to the society.

According to Eze Okpoko, the act of giving enables him a sense of fulfilment of purpose; hence, the never-ceasing urge to always give a helping hand to those who need it. Moreover, during the get-together, awards were presented to dignitaries who missed out on the official presentation at the just-concluded Iriji festival. The awardees include Onyeka Onwemesi, the chairman of revenue Ikotun Igando; HRH Amb. Sir Godwin Njubigbo, J.P., the Ezendigbo of Mainland Local Government; and Mr Charles Mgbe Kelechi, the chairman of Ndigbo Ijegun Ijeododo.

Appreciate messages from awardees.

Onyeka Onwemesi, Chairman of Revenue, shares gratitude over the honour presented by the Eze Okpoko Palace and also talked about community goals. He mentioned that the awards achievement will further spur the inspiration to do more for the Igbo community and described Eze Okpoko as a good, generous, and very nice leader who does so much for the Igbo people. Says his charitable contributions to the community speak volumes, urging him to keep up the good work.

Amb. Sir Godwin Njubigbo, J.P., the Ezendigbo of Mainland Local Government, expressed his gratitude for being awarded by Eze Okpoko's palace and encouraged the Igbos to live in peace under the leadership of Eze Okpoko in Ijegun Ijeododo. He plans to use the award to help the less privileged and the Igbos in his community, ensuring good conditions and peace. He also emphasised the importance of respecting Yoruba law and urging Ndigbo in Lagos State to focus on their business and avoid conflicts. He believes in focusing on set goals and ensuring peace in their community.

Mr Charles Mgbe Kelechi, chairman of Ndigbo Ijegun Ijeododo Lagos, expressed happiness and gratitude for the honours and gifts presented by Eze Okpoko's palace. He emphasised the importance of integrity and transparency as seen in the actions of Eze Okpoko 1, whom he says is worth emulating, and prays for more progress and unity amongst the Ndigbo.

Moreover, Charles, in his goodwill message, drummed up support for Eze Okpoko 1 and urged Igbos in Ijegun Ijeododo to embrace and honour the monarch for his act of humanity. He also conveyed his hope for more developments in the palace.

Chief Godwin Ogbuka and wife, Chief Godwin Anaeme (Chairman Eze Okpoko palace), Chief Emeka Onwukaobi (Onowu), Obi Udo of Ijegun Ijeododo, Chief Mrs Ada Odili and other palace chiefs in their numbers went home with an apportioned share of beef and other items.

The Ezendigbo of Ijegun Ijeododo, Eze Chika Nwokedi, and cabinet chiefs of the 'Obi Chukwu' palace celebrate the Iriji Festival with Igbo sons and daughters on Igbo Cultural Day in Ijegun, Lagos State. The 'Iriji' celebrated yearly signifies a new season of bountiful harvest and thanks to God for the gift of life.

The event held on Sunday, September 21, 2025, had dignitaries in attendance consisting of Igbo traditional rulers in Lagos, executives and members of the Igbo-speaking community who graced the occasion in honour of Eze Chika Nwokedi, Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu, the Chairman of the Council of Ndi Eze Igbo Lagos.

The event commenced with the coronation of chiefs, including Chief Kingsley Iheakor Mmama Ezi nwa no na Obi, Chief Blessing Obiajunwa Osodimee Nwanyi ma na'ria, Chief Collins Nwosu, Nze n Egbuodu, Chief Emmanuel Nnamdi Nneji, Okwuruora, and Honourable Chief Mrs Elizabeth Nwankata, Akwaugo Nwanyi 1 of Lagos State.

Chief Sunny Akpoyibo, the event's chairman, in his introductory remarks, appraised Ndigbo for having the best yet sustainable culture, especially when it comes to the New Yam festival, which he says is uniquely celebrated worldwide. He praised Eze Nwokedi for his charitable actions over the years, which have touched the lives of humanity, saying his passion and compassion for the less privileged are a testament to his magnanimity. He affirmed Nwokedi is committed to the course of giving throughout the years as he urged other Igbo traditional leaders to follow in his strides.

Speaking at the event, an awardee and special guest, Eze Dr Onyeka Ifekandu, the Ezendigbo of Lagos Island, a businessman who hails from Enugu, expressed gratitude over the recognition accorded him by Eze Chika Nwokedi. He noted that as a successful businessman for over 33 years in Lagos, he's an ambassador of Igbo culture and advocates for its preservation.

In response to his award recognition presented by Eze Chika Nwokedi at the Iriji event, he said, "I've been awarded for propagating Igbo culture in the diaspora, partnering with kings in the homeland and teaching children born outside Igbo soil about the culture. In my capacity, I have also provided scholarships for indigent people and financial grants to homeless individuals."

He further said he's mentored over 20 young people in tailoring material businesses, demonstrating his dedication to supporting the Igbo people. Ifekandu praised Nwokedi's dedication to supporting the Igbo people.

Another guest at the occasion, Eze (Amb) Nicolas Njoku, the 'Aigbaka of Ejigbo', commended Eze Chika Nwokedi for his tenacity in promoting the Igbo culture; he noted that cultural events such as the 'Iriji' enable the children born outside Igbo land to embrace their cultural heritage. He urged the Igbos who live in the urban areas to educate the children about their traditions.

ACP Patrick Nnemeka Onwu, a guest at the Iriji event, also received an award for his praiseworthy service in the Nigeria Police. As the Area Commander of Lion Building, Lagos, he revealed he's responsible for providing security cover for various dignitaries, including government officials. During his appreciation message, he expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Police, which has enabled astounding achievements so far. Through the support of the Nigerian Police, Patrick said he's travelled extensively, attending all police courses at home and abroad; as a member of the second contingent of Nigerian police peacekeepers in Kosovo, Nnemeka is winding down the system and will retire in October.

In his goodwill message to Eze Chika Nwokedi, ACP Patrick described the monarch as a metagenerous person, always there to support widows and the less privileged individuals. He said Nwokedi has had a cordial relationship with all the military formations, including the Nigerian Police Force, for over 25 years and still counting, and affirms he is a good and kind man.

The Igbo cultural day, which also had business tycoons in attendance, led pressmen to a media chat with one of Nigeria's recognised phytomedicine practitioners, Dr Uzu Onyemaechi Roberts, the CEO of Ruzu Herbal Products and Services Ltd, the makers of the Ruzu Herbal range of products and the bestseller 'Kampe'.

He noted that the company is happy to be one of the sponsors of the event, following a three-year partnership with Eze Chika Nwokedi, and affirmed that the monarch is one of the Ruzu brand's ambassadors who's been very effective in promoting the products. He added that the 'Iriji' festival is a celebration of the Igbo cultural heritage and potential, and as an indigenous manufacturer, Robert believes in showing total support and dedication to the activities of Eze Chika Nwokedi, whom he affirms represents a rich cultural heritage. The goal is to showcase the potential in Igbo culture.

Speaking with Amb. Pst. Mrs Tessy Chika Nwokedi, the Ugoeze 1 of Ijegun Ijeododo, on culture and traditions, she discusses the importance of teaching children their cultural and traditional roots and advises parents to teach their children about their birthplace to prevent them from losing their roots. She also emphasises the importance of teaching children languages, especially if their parents are from different tribes.

Tessy also discussed the correlation between decorating the wives of title chiefs according to culture and traditions, citing examples from the Bible; she says the Bible states that behind every successful man is a woman (wife), and this emphasises the significance of the 'Lolo' title accorded to the wife of a coronated chief. She enlightens that it is important to note that the adornment of a Lolo is a sign of respect given to a wife for being an enabler of her husband's good achievement. She also emphasises the importance of having a wife to make a peaceful home and fulfil expectations; in other words, the importance of having a wife in a man's life outweighs the disadvantages. A wife brings honour to her husband, she added.

Eze Chika Nwokedi, Okpoko 1 of Obodoukwu, the Ezendigbo of Ijegun Ijeododo, Chairman of the Council of Ndi Eze Igbo Lagos State, and the President of the Igbo Buru'otu Association of Nigeria, emphasises the significance of the Iriji festival, which involves bidding an end to the old yam while ushering in the new yam after a bountiful harvest. This tradition, he says, brings blessings to the people, underscoring communal sharing and gratitude while also highlighting the cultural significance and personal adherence to tradition.

Eze Chika, who championed the remarkable Igbo cultural day celebration, gave free food items (rice bags) to over 50 people and presented awards accompanied with gifts such as wristwatches, printed materials, duvet, traditional walking sticks to a good number of recipients and members of the press present. This year's cultural event, he says, is crafted to be unique, following his desire to bless people through giving in a bid to appreciate those contributing significantly to Igbo culture.

He emphasised living in peace with other tribes in the state, which resonates deeply, drawing inspiration from Matthew 5-7. He highlights the commitment to preventing ethnic tensions among Igbo people and the importance of fostering harmony with other tribes in Lagos State.

However, he noted that he's chosen a divine path as a giver, a trait exhibited since childhood, and encouraged others to follow their own paths, cautioning against emulation that might lead to difficulties. He also advised Ndigbo in Lagos to respect the Yoruba culture, acknowledging that Lagos is Yoruba land and promoting peaceful coexistence is paramount.

As Nigeria approaches its independence celebration, Eze Chika prays for national prosperity, job creation, and mercy for Nigerian leaders and citizens alike. While being supportive of Nigeria's progress, Eze Chika acknowledges the challenges of governance and urges collective prayer for the country's betterment. Prays for longevity to witness next year's Iriji celebration.

Highlights of the event include presentations of awards, cultural displays, presentation of the new yam, masquerade display, presentation of gifts and food items, and speeches from various dignitaries in acknowledgement of the 'Iriji' celebration.

Lagos: Arewa Community APC reunites after resolving internal conflicts, disowns Timi Joshua

By Naomisophyblog

The Arewa Community APC, Lagos State, has restored unity within its ranks following a landmark reconciliation meeting held under the leadership of the Apex Leader, Galadima Lagos. The high-level gathering brought together State Chairman Alhaji Sa’adu Dandare, BOT Secretary Alhaji Shehu Sam Pam, and respected elders to address divisions that had unsettled the group.

The reconciliation was convened after internal disputes and verbal clashes among leaders threatened the cohesion of the Arewa Community APC. The Apex Leader expressed displeasure over the disunity, warning that such developments weaken the trust of members and jeopardise the collective progress of the organisation.

At the meeting, the principal figures in the conflict — Alhaji Sa’adu Dandare, Alhaji Shehu Sam Pam, and Alhaji Kamba — were given equal opportunities to present their positions. Guided by the wisdom of elders, their dialogue uncovered the roots of the misunderstanding, opening a path to genuine reconciliation.

A symbolic highlight occurred when Alhaji Dandare and Alhaji Sam Pam exchanged a warm handshake before the gathering, signalling their renewed resolve to bury differences. Their embrace drew applause from elders and members, who hailed it as a turning point for peace and brotherhood in the community.

The leaders pledged to strengthen unity by discouraging derogatory remarks among their supporters. They reaffirmed the Arewa principle of “Uwa daya, Uba daya” — One family, one father — as the guiding spirit of the group’s progress in Lagos State.

In a decisive and unanimous resolution, the Arewa Community APC categorically disowned one Mr Timi Joshua, cutting all ties with him and stripping him of any media-related role or recognition within the group. Elders declared that Joshua no longer speaks for, represents, or holds authority in the name of the Arewa Community APC. A new, credible, and responsible spokesperson will be appointed by the apex body to safeguard the image and integrity of the community.

With these resolutions, the meeting ended on a hopeful note. The restored brotherhood has repositioned the Arewa Community APC, Lagos State, to serve its members more effectively and contribute meaningfully to the dynamic political landscape of Lagos.

CrimePolice Nab Fake Veterinary Doctor For Using Sister's UNN Degree Certificate To S by onochurch(op): 12:57am On Sep 19, 2025
Police Nab Fake Veterinary Doctor for Using Sister's UNN Degree Certificate to Sell Expired Drugs in Lagos

By Festus Chibueze

A woman named Mrs Aneneofor Nnenna Esther was discovered and taken into custody by police officers from Zone 2 Command in Onikan, Lagos, for using her elder sister's University of Nigeria degree certificate to sell expired animal medications to residents of the state under the guise of a veterinarian.

Mrs Esther was reportedly apprehended at her workplace, which is situated at 24 Adelemo Street, Glory Land Estate, Super Saver bus stop, Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos.

The police operation, which lasted for several hours and was directed by one Supol Andrew, was noteworthy, as he recovered multiple expired medications that she was selling to unwitting individuals while posing as a licensed and certified veterinary practitioner.

It is alleged that the suspect, Mrs Esther, a secondary school dropout with no formal veterinary training, used her sister Peace Aforma Ukatu's certificate—a graduate of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, who lives in the Eastern region of Nigeria—illegally to pose as a licensed veterinary professional.

For years before her current arrest, she used falsified credentials and documents to deceive clients and regulatory bodies, which exacerbates the alleged criminal impersonation.

Her arrest came after a respectable organisation dedicated to preserving professional integrity and the rule of law in the community petitioned the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2 Command AIG Adegoke Fayoade.

The petition reads,

"We categorically condemn all forms of criminality and unethical conduct, and it is in this spirit that we bring to your attention a matter of grave concern that threatens public safety, animal welfare, and the credibility of veterinary practice in Nigeria."

This petitioner concerns the unlawful and unethical activities of Mrs Aneneofor Nnenna Esther, who is currently operating a veterinary facility along Ago Palace Way, Okota, Lagos State, under false pretences and in blatant violation of multiple statutory provisions.

Police findings revealed that the facility operated by Mrs Esther is not registered with the Veterinary Council of Nigeria and fails to meet the minimum standards required for lawful operation.

Her unauthorised practice not only undermines the integrity of the veterinary profession but also poses a serious threat to animal health and public safety.

She was exposed by concerned citizens who had serious concerns about her possession, sale, and administration of expired and counterfeit veterinary drugs to unsuspecting clients.

These actions constitute a direct violation of the Counterfeit and Fake Drugs and Unwholesome Processed Foods Act and the guidelines of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC).

The sale and administration of expired and fake drugs further aggravated the situation, exposing animals and their owners to significant health risks and violating public health regulations.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ayuba Umma, when contacted, informed our correspondent that the matter was being investigated by the police and that the suspect will face charges in court if proven guilty following the conclusion of the investigation.

As of right now, the Veterinary Practitioners Association has not responded to the enquiry about Mrs Esther's membership or if she was given the permission to utilise her sister's licence to practise in Lagos State without having any prior experience in the field.

PoliticsNigerian Activist Iche Demands Change Amidst Economic Struggles by onochurch(op): 8:00pm On Sep 18, 2025
Nigerian activist Iche demands change amidst economic struggles

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, on Thursday, September 18th, 2025, during a public discussion, expressed deep concerns about Nigeria's current state under President Tinubu's administration.

Iche reiterates that Nigeria is not working as a nation due to the removal of fuel subsidy without planning, leading to high petrol prices and an increase in foodstuff and other daily needs of Nigerians. He noted that the country is no longer sourcing foreign exchange for imports, and crude oil is being extracted from Nigeria, yet there is a fluctuation in PMS price.

However, he noted the removal of fuel subsidies is a critical issue, pointing out it was done without adequate planning and alternative measures. The impact of increased petrol prices on the economy seems to be a major pain point, especially given Nigeria's crude oil resources.

On the issue of power supply, and after referencing President Tinubu's 2023 campaign promise of 24-hour electricity, the contrast between that promise and the current challenges is striking. This suggests Nigeria needs strategic changes and perhaps a reshuffle of leadership to bring in expertise that can drive transformation.

He further said,

In comparison with other African countries like Kenya, Ghana, Sierra Leone, and the Benin Republic, it is frustrating that Nigerians in search of their daily bread have to cope with high transportation costs leading to an increase in the prices of everything, including food items.

Unfortunately, Nigerians are travelling to find greener pastures in other African countries like Cotonou and Ghana when Nigeria has every form of resource to better the economy. However, President Tinubu's administration is being solidified by people who don't have an interest in serving the masses.

President Tinubu needs to restore his cabinet and bring the best brains to transform the economy, end party affiliations, and position appointees who are experts in their fields to build a better Nigeria.

Insecurity resulting in crime is another disturbing issue; travellers, dwellers and foreign investors are afraid for their lives, leading to stagnancy in the economy as farmers can't go to their farms to plant or harvest. The farm also suffers setbacks due to herdsmen invasion.

Discussing the way forward for Nigeria as a nation, Iche opined that there is a need for local production to reduce import dependency and strengthen the economy against the dollar. While addressing insecurity, which is linked to unemployment and poverty, it is suggested that engagement and economic opportunities could reduce crime. Also, the importance of having competent people in key roles, regardless of party affiliation, to drive economic transformation should be considered.

Iche calls for action and change in affirmation that Nigerians are becoming more discerning and won't be swayed easily by past tactics like tribalism or religion. If tangible improvements are made, the support for President Tinubu's continued administration will follow naturally.

PoliticsNigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio Faces Criticism Over Leadership. by onochurch(op): 11:10am On Sep 17, 2025
Nigerian Senate President Godswill Akpabio faces criticism over leadership.

...as Prince Saviour Iche reiterates on Senator Akpabio's key roles

By Naomi Onome

Comrade Prince Saviour Iche, a human rights advocate, founder of Ambassadors of Peace and Enlightenment Foundation (AMPEF) and president of 'The Voice of the Voiceless Media', criticises Nigerian senators led by Senate President Godswill Akpabio for their ineffectual leadership and lack of transparency since they were elected into office in 2023.

He said the Senate is known to employ the use of a check and balance mechanism to address the excesses of the Federal government. However, some ill-managed cases are addressed in the public hearings during their plenary meetings, causing resentment among the masses, such as the issue of Natasha, a controversial figure that has been a contentious topic in the Senate for months.

He further said,

"It is frustrating that the Nigerian Senate and specifically Senator Godswill Akpabio would make public hearings only to discuss Sen. Natasha's case all the time as if we no longer have other issues to address. The perceived lack of tangible achievements and the focus on certain issues like the Natasha case, which seems to be dominating discussions, is totally absurd."

Highlighting a couple of key concerns, it is pertinent that,

"There is a lack of checks and balances; the Senate isn't effectively exercising its oversight role over the Federal Government, leading to unchecked decisions and bills passing without sufficient scrutiny."

"Discussion of national issues, which includes important matters of national interest, including budget considerations, security issues and other concerning issues, should be addressed during these meetings, not irrelevant discussions that have no positive impact on the nation."

"Nigeria's Senate is a check and balance mechanism, allowing the Senate to regulate the Federal government's excesses. However, some bills already pass even before their reading as long as they are from the federal government, leading to issues; some cases should go to public hearings for public scrutiny, besides the three tiers of government, since they have remained dormant and irresponsive in functionality."

"There is a disconnect with the masses; Nigerians are critical about the Senate's engagement with the public and policymaking that benefits the people. Unfortunately, in recent times the public hearings aren't representing the masses effectively."

"I specifically criticise Senator Akpabio's leadership in the Senate; it is disappointing and frustrating with reference to past controversies with EFCC, where immunity covered his excesses. At this point, his leadership purpose is not useful to Nigerians; it is suggested that he consider resigning to preserve what's left of his reputation."

"Nigerians are looking for tangible policy achievements or actions from the senators to show they're representing the people's interests instead of prolonged focus on the Natasha case and the perceived shortcomings in governance."

"The Nigerian Senators could convey public hearings as related to the welfare of the masses to show they're representing them, based on the concerns of critiques, something to show that 'they're committed to transparent governance, actively engaging with Nigerians on critical policies, and holding the executive accountable for the benefit of all Nigerians.'"

Senator Godswill Akpabio is being urged to resign to preserve his respect. Despite being a governor for eight years and a minister during the last administration, Akpabio has been making errors and is being questioned about his tenure. Iche, in his summation, emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability in the Nigerian political landscape.

PoliticsThe Igbo-speaking Community In Lagos Unites For Progress At The Swearing-in Even by onochurch(op): 10:04pm On Sep 15, 2025
The Igbo-speaking community in Lagos unites for progress at the swearing-in event of new excos

... as President General of the Igbo-speaking community, Chief Sunday Udeh promises reform in his tenure.

By Naomi Onome

The Igbo-speaking community, led by the BoT chairman, Dr Jonathan Nnaji, hosts Ndigbo in Lagos at its swearing-in ceremony of the new executives on Sunday, September 14th, 2025. The inaugural event, which is centred on fostering unity, assures clarity in the disparity rumoured amongst Ndigbo and also aims to promote cultural activities, protect group interests, foster interpersonal relationships, and ensure the socio-cultural community is not marginalised.

The Igbo-speaking community, bound by shared objectives and common cultural values, traditions, and beliefs, had new executives take an oath of office in affirmation of their designated position of leadership as they, in turn, promised to abide by the rules and regulations of their appointment.

Dr Jonathan Nnaji, the BoT chairman, in his opening speech thanked fellow attendees, the Royal Fathers, and party chairmen of various parties for their presence at the occasion. He expressed his pride in the Lagos State Government and urged Ndigbo in Lagos to continue living in peace as he emphasised the importance of unity and peace in Nigerian society.

High Chief Ansalem Njoku, who represented Tayo Akindele Ayinde, the Chief of Staff of Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, showed support at the inaugural event of the Igbo-speaking community. He assures that Chief Sunday Udeh, the President General of the Igbo-speaking community, would be on the protocol list of the Governor of Lagos State. Dr Jonathan Nnaji, in response to High Chief Ansalem's message, appealed to the Lagos State government to create a list for Igbo-speaking communities, recognising their different names.

High Chief Innocent Nwaogwugwu, the chairman of the event, welcomed and thanked community leaders and the hero of peace, as ascribed to High Chief Sunday Eze, who voluntarily stepped down as PG of the Igbo-speaking community to accommodate a single rule without fractions for Chief Sunday Udeh's leadership as President General. He highlighted the efforts of these individuals in fostering peace and unity within the Igbo-speaking community.

High Chief Sunday Eze expressed satisfaction over the turnout of the inaugural event aimed at fostering unity among the Igbo-speaking community in Lagos State. He emphasised the importance of unity for community progress and development and addressed rumours of past factions and divisions within the Igbo-speaking community, highlighting how the negative development had hindered growth and relationships with the Lagos State government. Now, with unity achieved, he expressed optimism about the prospects of a stronger, more cordial relationship with the government, which could lead to better outcomes for the Igbo community.

Chief Sunday Eze further advised the newly inaugurated executives of the Igbo-speaking community to maintain unity, address disunity, and foster peace within the organisations. Says he believes unity is key to regaining governments' attention and cooperation and suggests specific areas for the new team to prioritise in their collaboration with the Lagos State government.

Dr Jonathan Nnaji, the BoT chairman, on uniting the Igbo-speaking community in Lagos, said it's quite an achievement to have brokered peace between the two factions within the Igbo-speaking community in Lagos, especially after a prolonged period of crisis. The unity, he says, is undoubtedly a significant milestone, as he noted that the critical objectives of the Igbo-speaking community are centred on living in peace with the host communities (the sons of the soil) in Lagos. - Fostering unity and cooperation among Igbo speakers - Preserving the Igbo language, tradition, and culture, especially for the younger generation who may not have frequent exposure to Igboland.

He further said,

"With the Igbo community now speaking with one voice, it's plausible that initiatives to promote Igbo language and cultural heritage could gain more traction. Cultural education in schools and community programmes might play a vital role in this endeavour."

"The Igbos want their language to continue to exist, as their children may not visit Igbo land for extended periods. Moreover, we also aim to teach our children about their language and culture, as there are emirs of the north and Yoruba communities in the east."

Regarding how the new leadership might approach things differently, Dr Jonathan highlighted the advantage of unity – speaking with one voice. This cohesion, he says, could enhance the community's ability to engage with host communities and articulate their needs and contributions more effectively. It might also streamline efforts to promote Igbo culture and address common challenges faced by the community in Lagos.

Chief Sunday Udeh, the President General of the Igbo-speaking Community in Lagos, during an interview with the press, revealed that there is a plan in progress to set up a Lagos team to guide Igbo initiatives, ensuring they're done with respect and legality. This, he says, is a strategic effort to integrate and contribute positively to Lagos while maintaining Igbo identity. He aims to unite Igbos in Lagos with a vision for togetherness.

Stepping into a significant role with a clear vision for unity and progress among the Igbo community in Lagos, Chief Sunday Udeh emphasised the importance of Igbos speaking in one voice, reconciling differences, and fostering togetherness, having faced challenges in the past. Udeh's multifaceted approach focuses on internal cohesion among Igbos in Lagos and keenness to respect the host community, Lagos, and its traditions as he advocates for Igbos to be law-abiding and respectful citizens. He highlighted the developmental contributions Igbos are known for, which have been maintained over time.

Udeh buttressed the importance of collaboration with the Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, whom he says is supportive of Igbos.

Hon, chief, Dr Okechukwu Uzuegbunam, the youth leader of the Igbo-speaking community in Lagos, lays emphasis on integrity, transparency, and accountability, as this resonates strongly as foundational elements for effective leadership. He highlighted that leadership among Ndigbo is about leading rather than ruling, which underscores the importance of collaborative and inclusive governance. This, he says, is a pivotal approach in fostering trust and driving collective progress.

Regarding the youths who aren't part of the Igbo-speaking community, Dr Okechukwu encouraged them to step up and be active participants in shaping their environment. This call to proactive engagement, he says, is crucial for bringing about desired change, regardless of one's cultural background within the community.

He promises to empower the youth wing and place them in the highest esteem while working with the main body to rebuild the community. Urged the new government to do things right, abandon old leadership methods, maintain integrity and accountability, and lead the Igbos, not rule them.

The swearing-in of Chief Sunday Udeh was conducted by the Igbo-speaking community group of legal luminaries as well as Dr Jonathan Nnaji and accompanied by personalities at the event.

Attendance includes the council of Ndi Eze in Lagos, the leadership and members of Igbo-speaking community Lagos, political party representatives, representative from other traditional leaders ( Yoruba and Hausa) and invited guests.
