Politics › Re: What Are The Advantages Of Having A State Police In Nigeria? by onuman: 2:59am On Jul 15 |
QuinQ: The problem is, I personally think almost anything is better than NPF. One advantage is that each state will now be almost totally responsible for their security. If they spend money to have a good police department they'll be more secure than those who refuse to or can't. It will no longer be one-size-fits-all. The huge downside is that inevitably the state police will become private property of the governor and I don't see how that can be avoided in a place like Nigeria. In US the state and local police departments are truly independent. Thst won't happen in Nigeria In parts of Europe, heads of state police or regional police are elected to avoid being misused by the political leaders of the region or state. |

Kobojunkie: Wrong! Sharia courts are constitutional. Nigeria has had a 2-tier policing system since 1960, and that system is embedded in the Constitution - section 272-276 -, rendering section 10, the secular clause, of no meaning.
2027 is expected to have been about either tearing up the existing constitution and creating a new one approved by the people, or having a national referendum freeing the regions from the state. However, the people are all over the place, so they refuse to consider what is best for the country. Try to differentiate sharia criminal justice system from sharia civil justice system. Sharia civil justice system is supported by Nigeria's constitution, whereas sharia criminal justice system is not allowed in Nigeria's Constitution. Sharia criminal justice system includes stoning blasphemous persons to death, stoning women to death for adultery etc, . |

AVECDEO: All rehabilitated bandits in the armed forces should immediately be de-enlisted if the war against banditry wants to be won decisively by the armed forces.
Subsequently any bandit caught should be made to face the law squarely and Gunmi should also be incarcerated along side if the war on banditry and terrorism want to be put to an end in Nigeria. There shall be no ending to banditry and terrorism by Islamic Jihadists in Nigeria unless the leaders of the 12 Arewa Sharia states renounce their adoption of unconstitutional Islamic sharia criminal justice system, the same justice system the bandits and terrorists fight to be used all over Nigeria. |

Were the army asleep when the kidnappers planned, carried out the kidnap, and kept the kidnapped on Nigeria's soil for more than a month? Even Somalia armed forces would detect the plan, talk less allow the kidnap proper and kidnappers with the kidnapped for nearly a month. This is Oyo State, not Zamfara or Sokoto. |

runningriot: While I express utmost joy for the safe return of the students and their teachers. However, there are questions that need to be answered, were they truly rescued or as usual bargain and negotiation was what transpired the release of the abductees? Because no single evidence to show that it was a rescue operation that led to the recovery of these children and their teachers. I mean, real and substantial evidence will provoke more public confidence and trust in the government and security agencies. Was the Commander in Chief asleep when such large number of people got kidnapped in Oyo State and kept in Nigeria's ground for more than a month, after the billions of Naira paid as salaries for the armed forces? Hoha, this is political kidnap and rescue operation. The insurgents must have received more money to buy more sophisticated arms and munitions to continue with their Jihad. |

Razzness: All major languages are already being taught in schools. That is not the problem. Children who are born in a particular state, raised there and go to school there grow up with the understanding of the ideologies of that particular state. A lot of Igbos who grow up in the Southwest speak Yoruba as their first language; eat and dress like Yoruba. Why is it a problem for them to identify as indigenes of those states in their official documents? An Igbo born in the southwest and speaks Yoruba as first language will always go to his or her local government area in the southeast to obtain certificate of indegeneship to acquire Nigerian passport. Never certificate from where he or she was born in the southwest. |

AMINDA: From a strategic point of view, there's nothing for ADC in the Southeast. Obi made sure of it. Historically, the Southeast is also the only region that doesn't split their votes, although they almost always end up backing the wrong horse. Every other region in the country put their eggs in multiple baskets as a form of insurance except for the Southeast. In 2023, Atiku made Okowa from the Southsouth V.P and even though he didn't win Delta, he won Akwa Ibom and Bayelsa. Politics is not an emotional sport. It's only a foolish person who will win presidential election but refuses to treat well every region in the country When a person emerges as president of America or PM of Great Britain, the person will not maltreat the regions that did not vote for him/her. In Nigeria most apolitical persons maltreat regions that did not vote for the person to become president or prime minister. |
