Hi, just to clarify; is the ihs determined by the length of the course itself(start date to end date) or by the length of the entire study visa (start date to end date + added months)?

A 10 month course (sept/start date to june/end date) would pay £470 or £705?

This thread was in 2007 and you replied in 2020. Obviously, University of Portsmouth then is not the same now. University of Portsmouth is a good university.

The varying amounts you're seeing is because IHS is determined by the length of your study. Someone whose length of study is for 12months won't have the same IHS fee as someone whose length of study is for 15months.

Visa fee varies because some pay for standard while others pay for priority and super priority. Standard is the cheapest followed by priority then super priority.

There is no time frame. You can do a masters immediately after graduating from your your first degree without work experience.

You can use your domiciliary account if you have money in it or use a UK account if you have one or if you have access to one.

Yes, I was the one that said I will NOT post a confidential letter to prove anything to you. And Yes, even your family friends and great grand parents and your kinsmen as well as your community chief plus the elders in your village can give you their bank statement

People post letters all the time and paint the confidential info in it....not really a big deal

If the person supporting you doesn’t know how to write a letter and you can’t help them write one then I guess it’s your loss. There are so many templates of formal letter online. Google it. Don’t be lazy. That was how someone was asking for the contact of a school they applied to meanwhile the information is on the school’s website.

I should post a notarised confidential letter with details of my uncle, my cousin, the school etc just because someone on nairaland says so or so that someone on nairaland can believe me LOL keep waiting.

OMG I schooled in The UK for goodness sake. I was helping my cousin out because I’ve done it TWICE. Gosh. I schooled in The UK TWICE oga. Is it a crime to help my cousin out with her documents? Do you want me to post the letter our uncle wrote for her here before you believe I’m a lawyer and I accompanied her to court. Jeez! Can you imagine! Talking about how far people can go with their claims! What claims!! The fact that I schooled in the UK TWICE or that I’m a LAWYER or that I ACCOMPANIED MY COUSIN TO COURT or that MY UNCLE USED HIS BANK STATEMENT AND WROTE A LETTER SUPPORTING IT ON BEHALF OF MY COUSIN or that MY COUSIN LEFT FOR THE UK LAST MONTH? Which is the claim!!

..but now that you said you were there and even did it together with the applicant( ypur cousin) that travelled to the uk....i now get you..

Anyone can give stories, what I hope the OPs that asks the question do is to ensure this is backed by a UKVI policy document or history of repeated request/experience ( for e.g study gap)

If any advice is given without relevant evidence or government document then I will take it with a pinch of salt

That include advice from me, justwise, mimilyrics, giselle237 etc

Anyone can claim I was there, I signed the document I did this or that

The policy is your backup and that is what any government body works with(some of us are privileged to know and work)

If anything goes wrong you can fight with the policy not that XYZ said her cousins used etc

I hope people know and apply wisdom accordingly

Sorry, I didn’t mean you’ve been misleading people in general. It was specifically for the affidavit one and the bank statement. You’ve also helped me with information regarding second masters and academic progression. I actually got an email from University if Exeter telling me that it doesn’t apply to me if I’m applying from outside the UK.

The person in question has five names on their passport and three names on other documents, clearly, an affidavit is needed.

Like I have said, my cousin was sponsored by an uncle of ours and I helped her get her documents together and I also accompanied her and our uncle to the court to get the letter he wrote stamped and sealed before uploading it.

I applied for my second visa inside the UK and I still uploaded my affidavit even though I was already in the UK. It’s always better to provide more information than less.

If you like, don’t get an affidavit that confirms that the five names on your passport and the three names on your passport belong to one and the same person. You can’t have five names on your passport and three names on other documents and think you can get away with it without a sworn affidavit. It won’t take anything for you to get an affidavit. People get affidavit for misarrangement of names let alone missing names or additional names.

For the people arguing that it’s not possible to use a bank statement that’s not yours or that of your parent's, Please show me where it’s CLEARLY written on the UK government’s website. But if you have doubts, you can tell the family member sponsoring you to transfer the money to your account.

She didn’t tell me. I was in the same house with her and she sought my assistance because I’ve schooled in The UK twice. If you’re not close with your family members that doesn’t mean others are not. I was literally with her through the process. We all went together to the court to get the letter her uncle wrote stamped and sealed.

Obviously you’re not UKVI and you obviously do not know what examples are. Does it state that the bank statement must only be yours or that of your parent’s? They gave examples such as PARENTS or PARTNER. They never restricted it to just parents. Read to understand. My cousin left for the UK just last month and she used her uncle’s bank statement. Unless you’re UKVI and you changed the rules yesterday. There’s nowhere on their website where it CLEARLY states that it’s RESTRICTED to just PARENTS.

I have schooled in the UK TWICE, that was why I was asking questions about academic progression. I did my first degree and first masters there and now, I’m going for a second masters. Both times, I submitted an affidavit. As long as your names are different, you must submit an affidavit. Stop misleading people.

How can you have John Smith Peters David Samuel on your passport and then on other documents you only have John Smith Samuel and you think you’re not supposed to get an affidavit?? Better get an affidavit to avoid stories. Affidavit is not up to 2k

As long as your first and surnames are consistent that is fine.The additional affidavit is peculiar to your Uni not a general rule
You are still in the application stage, you can't keep dishing out information you can't clearly back with relevant policy

My cousin did the exact thing and she used her uncle’s bank statement. If she was able to use her uncle’s bank statement I see no reason why you can’t use your brother’s bank statement.

It’s not just your parents you can use. My cousin used her uncle’s bank statement.

You can only use your parents (father or mother) and the person must write consent letter and show his/her account for 28 days .

There is a need for an affidavit as long as your passport is carrying different names from your other documents. I know you know a lot but you don’t know everything. I also used an affidavit the first time I was going there for a case like this. The school asked for it and I also submitted it to UKVI.
