Yet those conditions are totally dependent on the bias of the determiner.

In the graduate school I attended some of the faculties allow you to cheat, they allow you to bring in as many cheat notes as you can, while some others frown against it seriously. So if you use cheat note in the class of the faculty that allows it you feel nothing cause it is allowed, but if you do it in the other classes of faculties that don't allow it, no one needs to tell you that you are breaking the rules. When we break rules set up by the community, organisation, country, etc., we know we have gone against the rules, we don't need God to tell us and this happens to everyone be you a Christian, atheist, Buddhist, Hindu, Muslim, etc.

which school is that?

Religion / Re: Nigerian Man Is Locked Up After Saying He Is An Atheist by ooman(m): 5:00pm On Dec 21, 2014
Then he was freed because of doctors' strike....

Mubarak Bala was released because of a doctors' strike which has seen many patients discharged, a charity said.

Mr Bala said he now wanted to reconcile with his family who committed him to the hospital in Kano where he says he was held against his will for 18 days.

But he said he wanted to leave the predominantly Muslim north of Nigeria after receiving death threats.

A humanist charity which took up his case said that Mr Bala, a chemical engineering graduate, was freed on Tuesday but news of his release was not made public until he was in a secure location.

"There are still deep concerns for Mubarak's safety in a part of the country where accusations of 'apostasy' can be deadly," the International Humanist and Ethical Union (IHEU) said in a statement.

The man's family is reported to have had him committed to the hospital because it feared for his safety after he publicly stated his atheism.

In a statement released on Friday, Mr Bala said he was now staying with some of his family, had been assured of his safety and wanted to put things behind him "for the sake of reconciliation".

"I have realised that my matter is a family one which requires family resolution... all misgivings and misunderstanding within my family has been resolved," the statement said.

He said he retracted "some derogatory remarks I have made online, out of anger".

His lawyer, Muhammad Bello Shehu, told the BBC Hausa Service this did not refer to his faith but to remarks he had made about his father who he accused of being an Islamic leader who could not afford to have a non-Muslim in the family.

After the 29-year-old was admitted to a psychiatric ward at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, he sought help from friends via email and social media until his phone was confiscated, according to IHEU.

Mr Shehu said that no further legal action would be taken but that Mr Bala wanted another doctor to evaluate him to put it on the record that he was not suffering from a mental illness as the hospital has concluded.

When Mr Bala was first detained IHEU said his family had asked a doctor if he was mentally ill because he had told relatives that he was an atheist.

Despite being told that he was not unwell, Mr Bala's family then went to a second doctor, who declared that his atheism was a side-effect of suffering a personality change, the group said.

Some states in northern Nigeria adopted Islamic law after the end of military law in 1999.

The BBC's Nigeria correspondent Will Ross say religion is a sensitive issue in the country especially as Islamist insurgents are fighting in the north-east to impose an Islamic state.

Religion / Nigerian Man Is Locked Up After Saying He Is An Atheist by ooman(m): 4:56pm On Dec 21, 2014
Just saw this...

A Nigerian man has been incarcerated in a mental health institution by his family after saying he had lost his belief in God.

Mubarak Bala, 29, is said to have been forcibly medicated for "insanity" for nearly two weeks, despite a doctor's opinion that he has no psychological problems.

Campaigners are calling for his release and say the case highlights the fact that atheists are a persecuted minority in many African countries.

Bala's Twitter account uses the handle "ExMuslim", and his profile says: "Chemical Process Engineer. I stand for Truth&Justice. Religion insults human conscience &reason, duped me that I hav another lifetime. AgnosticAtheist."

He lives in Kano in Nigeria's predominantly Muslim north. The state adopted sharia law in 2000 and has a strict Islamic police force called the Hisbah.

When Bala told his family that he had renounced Islam, they took him to a doctor and asked if he was mentally ill, according to the International Humanist and Ethical Union, which has taken up the case. The doctor gave him a clean bill of health, but the family turned to a second doctor, who said his atheism was a side-effect of a personality change.

The family allegedly told the doctor that he had also made delusional claims that he was a "governor" and other "trivial lies". Bala was subsequently admitted to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital on 13 June and has since been held there against his will.

He has pleaded to the outside world for help in emails and tweets from several phones smuggled into the institution. In one email, he said: "And the biggest evidence of my mental illness was large blasphemies and denial of 'history' of Adam, and apostasy, to which the doctor said was a personality change, that everyone needs a God, that even in Japan they have a God.

"And my brother added that all the atheists I see have had mental illness at some point in their life."

In a tweet sent on 21 June, he wrote: "My neck still hurts, from the strangle-hold of my father, and the beat of uncles dislocated my finger and arm, I then got sedated by me bro."

Another tweet, thought to refer to Bala's father, stated: "Being a leader, in the forefront of Islami movement in Nigeria, he can't afford to have a nonmuslim family member, so he declared me insane."

But Bala's father tells a different story, according to lawyer Muhammad Bello Shehu. "From what I gather from the family, Mubarak started expressing these beliefs six or seven months ago. The father was aware that he had stopping praying and going to mosques for a year now.

"But when he started tweeting about it and going public, that might have endangered his life and his family. So according to the father, the major reason he took him to the hospital was for his own safety. The way people take religion here means he could have been lynched for making such announcements."

There is a need for clarity about Bala's mental state, Shehu added. "The doctors are of the opinion that he does have a psychological problem. He says not. The issue now is for us to get an independent psychiatric analyst to assess his status."

It is understood that Bala's latest phone has since been confiscated but he has been moved back into the public ward from a private room.

His detention was condemned by the Nigerian Humanist Movement. Bamidele Adeneye, its secretary , said: "I met Mubarak online a while ago and he seemed very lucid, intelligent and witty as well as bold and courageous. What amazed me was that he's a Muslim atheist, which is very rare in Nigeria."

Adeneye recalled that suddenly Mubarak told him his brother was trying to put him into a mental institution because he did not believe in God. "Then he said his family had sent him for treatment for insanity. I saw online that his father had written how TV encourages atheism, so be careful."

Bala had been due to go to South Bank University in London in the UK, Adeneye added.

"If you speak to Mubarak you'll know there is nothing wrong with him," he said. "Basically he told them he didn't believe in the Adam and Eve story or in Allah. The constitution clearly states that you have a right to be religious or non-religious. It is a violation of human rights.

"There are Islamic police in Kano. I fear for his life. Somebody might go to the hospital to attack him. We are trying to get him out. I'm scared because if it can happen to him it can happen to me."

The Lagos Humanists have no more than 10 active members in a Adeneye said: "Atheists are a minority that are frowned upon. I grew up in a Christian house, going to church. I would ask my father, 'Why are we going?' He encouraged me to keep asking questions.

"Many Nigerians think atheists are horrible. I've had lots of death threats and messages like 'You don't deserve to be alive.' But atheism is growing in countries such as Kenya, Uganda and Ghana. Thanks to programmes such as Cosmos, children are understanding evolution and questioning their parents, asking, 'Could we really all have come from two people?'"

The IHEU has expressed concern over Bala's "deteriorating condition" after reports that he is weak and his hands are shaking. Spokesman Bob Churchill said: "It appears that a warped notion of family honour is the motivation for pressuring Mubarak in this appalling manner, to conform to religious views that he simply doesn't hold. This is an abhorrent violation of his freedom of thought and belief.

"We are joining humanists and human rights advocates in Nigeria and the activists who have worked to highlight this case, in calling for an immediate re-evaluation of Mubarak's case by a doctor who is entirely independent of the family, and for his swift release."

Christianity and Islam continue to dominate Africa, with non-belief virtually taboo in large swaths of the continent. But, like gay rights activists, atheists are gradually finding their voice, and Churchill believes the tide is turning.

"I think very often in sub-Saharan Africa the social pressures mean that the idea of atheism is unlikely to be discussed. But we're slowly seeing a shift and you can't put the genie back in the bottle. The thoughts are there and some proportion of the population is prepared to say yes, I believe in them. There is starting to be a very serious pushback."

Be a good citizen of the world, this is all that is required of you as an atheist.

And this includes obeying all laws, not cheating included.

Atheism leaves you to take responsibility, you may get locked up, but we don't burn people in hell.
Religion / Re: The Non-Christian Chatbox ( sticky ) by ooman(m): 3:54pm On Dec 21, 2014
What if, instead of climbing Mount Sinai to receive the Ten Commandments from God, Moses had turned to the Israelites and asked: Hey, what do you guys think we should do?

Considering the Hebrews' bad behavior in the Bible, what with the coveting of neighbors' wives and murdering their own brothers, that might have been a disastrous idea.

But in our own more enlightened age, we're perfectly capable of crowdsourcing our own commandments -- or, at least, that's what a new project would have us believe.

Lex Bayer, an executive at AirBnB, and John Figdor, a humanist chaplain at Stanford University, delivered their own 10 "non-commandments" in a book they co-wrote: "Atheist Heart, Humanist Mind." Bayer said the book forced him to clarify and articulate his own beliefs, and he thought others could benefit from doing the same.

"A lot of atheists' books are about whether to believe in God or not," he said. "We wanted to consider: OK, so you don't believe in God, what's next? And that's actually a much harder question."

Enter the "10 'Non-Commandments' Contest," in which atheists were asked to offer modern alternatives to the famous Decalogue. And, to sweeten the pot, the contest offered $10,000 in moolah to the winning would-be Moses. (If it helped boost atheists' public image and drum up publicity for his book, all the better, Bayer said.)

The contest drew more than 2,800 submissions from 18 countries and 27 U.S. states, according to Bayer and Figdor. The proposed "non-commandments" ranged from the quizzical ("Don't follow your nature"wink to the quixotic ("Thriving in space is the ultimate goal"wink.

A team of 13 judges selected 10 of the more sober and serious submissions, and announced the winners Friday.

There's nary a "thou shalt" among them -- nothing specifically about murder, stealing or adultery, although there is a version of the Golden Rule, which presumably would cover those crimes.

If they lack faith in the divine, the atheist "non-commandments" display a robust faith in humankind, as if Silicon Valley had replaced Sinai.

Bayer said humans are hardwired for compassion, and the scientific method and wisdom of crowds -- or the tribes that gather online each day -- will weed out bad ideas. In other words, this is an open-ended, and hopefully progressive, process, he said.

So, will the 10 ideas form a new moral foundation for atheists or build a Tower of Babel? Take a look and see what you think.

Here are the "Ten Non-Commandments" chosen as the winners:

1. Be open-minded and be willing to alter your beliefs with new evidence.

2. Strive to understand what is most likely to be true, not to believe what you wish to be true.

3. The scientific method is the most reliable way of understanding the natural world.

4. Every person has the right to control of their body.

5. God is not necessary to be a good person or to live a full and meaningful life.

6. Be mindful of the consequences of all your actions and recognize that you must take responsibility for them.

7. Treat others as you would want them to treat you, and can reasonably expect them to want to be treated. Think about their perspective.

8. We have the responsibility to consider others, including future generations.

9. There is no one right way to live.

10. Leave the world a better place than you found it.

I live by just one rule: hurt no one and don't get hurt.

It is not offensive. It is a lie that your children will easily see through.

With all due respect, I think you are making the typical Christian mistake by deluding your self that your children will think like you and adopt all your worldviews. You are dead wrong.

You ignorantly forget or chose to ignore that Christianity's biggest nemesis is Reason, not atheism.
Your children are 100% guaranteed to come into contact with Reason, and will make s choice whether to embrace Reason or reject it. The odds are that they will likely embrace it.
This is the general trend that has been slowing going on over the past 300+ years.
African is just slowly catching up with the rest of mentally sovereign humanity.

The problem with most Christ-tards is that you ignore reality and isolate your selves in your delusional make-belief cocoons.
By identifying atheism as your threat, you are showing a repeating pattern of denial.

Here, as always, you have chosen to fight an in invisible enemy, rather than face the inevitable firewall of Reason that becons you, as well as all when who approach the age of Reason.

So, your thread, if you are sincere, should be appropriately titled ; How To Protect Your Christian Child From The Onslaughts Of Reason .

I love this.

Our God in heaven rules in his supremacy and no one can question him for his ways are not our ways. He is a God of perfection. He gave us d choice btw good and evil and he said we should choose good dat we may live long. The devil chose wat he liked, therefore, got what he wanted. So his evil emanated from himself and not God.

Is evil part of the perfection of your god?
