Otunba Adewale, a successful entrepreneur, who embarked on the visit with hordes of aides and associates, have a field day embracing the outpour of loves and supports thrown at him by the party's faithful who ignored the scorching sunlight to receive him in their midst. He highlighted key areas of focus in revitalizing the economy of the state if elected, which includes Agriculture, Entrepreneurship, Industrialization, tourism, peaceful coexistence amongst the Ekiti people. Adewale donated a sum of N1 million to the development of the mosque, a gesture he has been doing even before he came out to contest for election in the state, he also donated N1 million to Ado central mosque in 2017. The Chief Imam and other members of the Islamic community prayed for Adewale, stating that he is a man of honor, that he respond to their calls whenever is he being called upon. The leading and most popular candidate in the forthcoming Ekiti gubernatorial election on the platform of the Action Democratic Party (ADP) Otunba Segun Adewale (OSA) fondly called OSAPraPra by his Ekiti people has said that his vision is to turn around the economic fortunes of the state for good and stamp out the ravaging poverty in the state. Adewale, an entrepreneur extraordinaire, philanthropist and a grassroots politician has expressed confidence that his government when voted into power will not fail the people. He has assured that all salary earners and pensioners will first be taken care of, by settling all the money owed to them by the Fayose's government, stressing that Ekiti as presently constituted is a salary powered economy. Adewale argued that Fayose is not doing the workers any favor by paying their salaries, that it's their right and not privilege, he believes that prompt payment of salaries and pensions will enable a free flow of cash in the economy which will also be good for government. The purchasing power of the people will Increase, the local economy will boom and government won't find it difficult to apply fair taxes where necessary that won't be a burden to the people. He said to change the economy to a more robust one, he will create not less than 14,000 new business owners through entrepreneurship training yearly. Adewale believes that this 14,000 fresh business owners will also employ at least 5 people each which will have a multiplier effect on job creation in the state and take the youths out of the streets. Adewale has spoken passionately about the lessons that every state should learn from China; which is to focus more on creating village-level enterprises, quality health services and educational facilities. He says that he is passionate about small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs) because for him, that is the bedrock of any economy. As part of his clear cut agenda, he said that he will set up vocational skill acquisition centers in each of the three senatorial districts where any person of 20 years and above irrespective of their educational status can receive training in a specific career field. He says that this is a time to start thinking outside the box because the government cannot employ everyone but can equip everyone to succeed in their own unique way. Explaining further, he said this won't be business as usual because to take the people out of poverty and unemployment, there has to be a radical approach applied; thus all the trainees will be fully supported from day one. Adewale said when the trainees are enrolled, stipends will be paid to them to cater for their transportation, feeding and other things during their training. He said that at the end of the training programme, each of them will be given a seed capital of N1,000,000 to start under the supervision of the government. This he says that the finance ministry will oversee in partnership with trainers and critical stakeholders in the sector. He said it is important to guide them to ensure that these businesses do not fail because these youth will have to replicate the success for the cycle to continue. Adewale has stressed that, instead of the over N14b the Fayose led government wasted on a 1.5 km bridge but has ended up distorting the city's landscape, such a huge amount should have been invested directly into the lives of Ekiti people especially the youth. Adewale stated that Ekiti State should now be known as the most industrious state because of its richness in skilled human resources. He says the state will be the food hub of the nation because of his strategies to invest massively in Agriculture and train experts in growing food crops, food processing and preservation. Ekiti farm produce will be distributed throughout the country. Adewale also says that part of the 14,000 entrepreneurs that will be trained will have industrial engineers and technicians who will have the professional capacity to handle jobs such as Turn Around maintenance (TAM) for NNPC, other related oil companies and for other multinational corporations. He has said that the state will assist those who choose Football, Boxing, Athletics and other sports to build their careers with an active action plan through the sports ministry, the State will assist many of them secure international clubs where they can shine and make the name of the state great. He says that another area to directly touch the youth is through sports. According to him, the overall goal is to make Ekiti state a leading state in Nigeria by converting the skills of the people into a resource that is capable of making the state one of most economical viable in the country, he noted that with him, the tag on Ekiti as the poor state will be a thing of the past. Adewale says that our most valuable resources are in our heads and not only in the ground. Adewale also said that there are multinational corporations such as United Nations, USADF, Agri-Vie, eVA Fund, Ford Foundation, UN, IITA, Charities Aide Foundation (CAF) and others who are ready to support the entrepreneurship drive of the state and that his government will tap into every available opportunity to make Ekiti the economic and investment destination not only in Nigeria but in Africa. He says that he is out to work for Ekiti people and all the people have to do is make it happen with their PVCs so that Ekiti can move ahead and take its rightful place in the economy of Nigeria. |
Adewale laments the high level of poverty in Ekiti and insists that the state now needs entrepreneurs, not those who have received salaries all their lives - He says he does not need much hassles to defeat Governor Ayodele Fayose and his endorsed aspirant A former chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, Segun Adewale, has revealed his preparedness to wrestle other aspirants for the forthcoming governorship election in Ekiti state. Adewale told NAIJ.com that it was time for Ekiti state to witness real governance and not have politicians whose main pre-occupation is stealing the commonwealth of the people. Popularly called Aeroland, Adewale said Ekiti had suffered from governors who have never managed their own businesses but were employees. He argued that as a result, the governors had found it difficult really managing the affairs of the state. Reminded that Governor Ayodele Fayose, the state governor had endorsed his deputy, Prof Kolapo Olusola, as his replacement, Adewale said he could seek the mandate of the people through any other political organisation including the Action Democratic Party (ADP). "I have always been a politician in Lagos, but the reason I am going home now is because those I thought would develop the state have failed. "When you look at their lives, they had nothing before joining politics. Politics gave them all that they have. Despite the fact that apart from the governor, we have a minister and top appointees of the government, go to Ekiti state and see poverty everywhere. The poverty in Lagos is far better," he said while maintaining that the people of thestate wanted him to return and govern them. Adewale, who spoke in a phone interview, argued that he remains the most qualified having been an entrepreneur who groomed his business into one with a turnover bigger than the total internally-generated revenue of Ekiti state. "We don't need to put a teacher that had been earning salaries all his life, that had been an employee instead of an employer in the government house. “The state is poor already and the people have been improverished. We need people who have been able to manage their own businesses and succeeded, employers of labour and not employees of labour. “That is the reason I am home. If I see a qualified and successful entrepreneur with the interest of the people at heart, I can step down for him. That is the level to which I have the people in mind. “Segun Oni worked for somebody before becoming the governor of Ekiti state. Kayode Fayemi was a teacher handling history in a university,” he said. On the challenge he may face with Fayose, he said: “I will defeat him. All through in Lagos, I didn’t have a structure. Chief Bode George and Musiliu Obanikoro had structures, yet I defeated everybody. “I got my ticket to pursue the House of Representatives even though I was not in Bode George’s group, I got my ticket against someone touted to be in the Bode George camp to clinch the Senate ticket on the platform of the PDP. “I even defeated Dapo Sarunmi who brought the PDP to Lagos. I am a grassroots person and a sincere democrat. “I am doing this because of the people and not for me.” He said he already has the support of some party chieftains in Ekiti state as he continues with his ambition.

Ekiti State youth play football barefooted in the 21st century – Otunba Segun Adewale It saddens my heart to see youth in Ekiti State playing soccer barefooted in the 21st century. I have never seen a society that has neglected its youth as I have seen in Ekiti in recent months. The level of poverty and decadence occasioned by the failure of our political elites is beyond explaination. I can't imagine a youth in 2018 playing football in a community organised competition barefooted until I saw it. What is the business of our State and local authorities? Why should we as a people toy with the future of our youth? https://fountainherald.com.ng/2018/01/26/ekiti-state-youth-play-football-barefooted-in-the-21st-century-otunba-segun-adewale/ |

PEOPLES Democratic Party (PDP) governorship aspirant in the election holding 2018 in Ekiti State, Otunba Segun Adewale aka Aeroland, has said that he is resolved to wipe out poverty in the state if voted in office. Adewale, who is Chairman, Lagos State chapter of PDP, made the declaration after officially declaring his intention to contest for governorship seat in the state next year. “I hate poverty with a passion and by the grace of God, if I am given the privilege to lead my people, together we shall defeat the hold of poverty on our people and state. It is an aberration that a state known as the fountain of knowledge is also among the poorest states in the country. My mission in Ekiti is to defeat poverty in the land by converting our God given knowledge to wealth,” he said. “My mission in Ekiti is to defeat poverty in the land by converting our God given knowledge to wealth. Our manifesto is geared towards building a strong financial capacity for the state and her citizens such that Ekiti can be a lender to other states of the federation,” he added. The party chieftain, who is also the Chairman/CEO of Aeroland Group of Companies, said in the release issued in Lagos on Wednesday that his visit to the party secretariat in Ado Ekiti was to formally inform the State Working Committee (SWC), Local Government Exco (LGE), leaders and stakeholders of the PDP in Ekiti of his intention to fly the party’s flag at the coming poll. “I have come here today with my supporters to inform our party leaders of my intention to vie for the governorship seat next year. This visit puts to rest the rumours on whether I will contest or not,” the aspirant said. Speaking further, Adewale contended that Ekiti State needed a man of integrity, values and decorum as the governor, promising that the state under his watch would experience clear developmental and infrastructure gains. “Our policies shall be centered on empowering Ekiti people financially. Our vision is to make Ekiti State a reference point in Nigeria in the areas of Agriculture, Technology, Education, Healthcare delivery, social amenities, and industrialisation and to ensure financial independence from the Federal Government,” he said. In his welcome speech, the Chairman, Ekiti State chapter of PDP, Chief Williams Ajayi, noted that Otunba Adewale was the first aspirant to officially show his interest to contest the next governorship poll under the party platform, but quickly assured that the PDP secretariat in the state would ensure a level- playing ground as it had not endorsed any aspirant. However, he described Adewale as a sellable candidate capable of securing victory for the party in the coming election.
