16 Nigerians in Chinese town hit by Coronavirus

Lai Mohammed says 16 Nigerians in Wuhan hit by Coronavirus are not showing interest in returning to Nigeria.

The minister while addressing journalists on Friday, January 31, 2020, said the 16 Nigerians have not shown interest in returning to their country.

While urging Nigerians to reconsider travelling to China, the minister said the Federal Government cannot stop Nigerians from travelling to the country.

He said, “We know it is a bit difficult to ban people from travelling. Another thing is that this is not a basis to stigmatise people who come from there.

“Even if we have Nigerians who are there, unless they indicate interest that they want to come home, we can’t force them.

“I know we have Nigerians in Wuhan; our Embassy in China has confirmed that we have about 16 Nigerians in Wuhan and they are in touch with them.

“They have, however, not indicated their interest to come home. They will, however, contact our embassy if they like to come home.

“We need a lot of public enlightenment. We need to let people who travel know that there is the need for absolute transparency and absolute honesty when they are filling out forms.”

Immediate past Chairman of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State, Chief Jide Awe, has said the Southwest is destined to produce the party’s candidate that will succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Awe, who replied to the threat by the Miyetti Allah that the zone might forfeit presidency in 2023, if it insists on operation Amotekun, said the southwest region will occupy the next presidency, going by the silent principle of rotation.
The Miyetti Allah Kaote Hore, had last Thursday threatened that the southwest may not be considered for presidency in 2023 taking cognisance of its insistence on the continuation of the joint security outfit called Amotekun despite the FG’s pronouncement.
The APC Chieftain who spoke on Saturday in a programme on a private radio station, Voice 89.9 FM, monitored by our correspondent in Ado Ekiti, averred that the southwest governors should have been commended by the federal government on the initiative, rather than proscription they got through the office of the Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
“For Abubakar Malami to have a complete work, let him tell Nigerians that hiring of private guard is illegal. Let him tell us that fencing a building or purchase of generating sets are also illegal as well. Let him know that as big men exist and protected by army ,police and others, we at the lowest rung of the ladder must be allowed to live our lives, we too must be protected and Amotekun is for this purpose, because FG has failed us”.
He pointed out that the inability to secure the lives of the people by conventional security outfits signposted that Nigeria is now a completely failed state.
“Anything that has to do with security does not carry the toga of politics, so it will be a great disservice to our people to politicise the issues surrounding the formation and proscription of Amotekun.
“I salute our governors for breaking the barrier of hardlining politics to form this joint security. I am still at loss with the claim by the federal government that Amotekun was illegal. People were being kidnapped, robbed , killed and traumatised on daily basis and the FG did nothing. Do they want our governors to watch as their people were being killed?
“They said they won’t give us presidency in 2023 if the governors insist on protecting their people. Well , the position is not being allocated by the group saying that.
Again, let them know that the Yorubas are destined for presidency in 2023, because we have paid our dues as far as the APC is concerned.
“I had been a victim of kidnapping, because my brother was abducted by strange people here in Ekiti. We had to look for the money we didn’t have to pay ransom before he was released. Should we fold our arms and allow this to continue? They want to be kidnapping us , so that we can be paying ransom to them, this will not happen.
“I am a farmer and I knew what it takes to keep your farm. Several millions of farms had been destroyed in Orin Ekiti, Oke Ako and others towns in Ekiti axis, also in Ijare in Ondo and Ibarapa area in Oyo. All these wicked acts must stop and that was what the Amotekun issue was about.
“The leaders of the region and those who were not politicians like Prof Wole Soyinka, Chief Afe Babalola(SAN), Femi Falana, Prof Banji Akintoye and even our traditional rulers had spoken clearly that Amotekun has come to stay.
“The federal government should even appreciate the fact that the southwest governors openly formed the security body. What of if it was a secret body? That would be more dangerous and the federal government should not push the zone to that level”, Awe warned.

National Universities Commission (NUC) has unbundled some academic courses being offered in universities to allow for production of more professionals.
The Commission said it had concluded unbundling work on Architecture, Mass Communication, Agriculture, Creative Arts and several others, and the changes would be effective from next year.
Its Executive Secretary, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, said in Abuja, yesterday, that some of the courses were split in seven different other degree courses.
He disclosed that besides the ongoing move to unbundle some programmes, the commission in the last three years had carried out other massive reforms such as curriculum re-engineering and introduction of new programmes.
“We have almost concluded the unbundling of Mass Communication. At the end of first quarter next year, Mass Communication will not be existing as a stand alone degree programme because its too wide.
“We are unbundling the programme into seven different programmes; Bachelors Degrees in public relations, marketing communications, media studies, film studies, cinematography or photography, strategic communications and so many others.
“This is in line with the trends all over the world. We will retain the mass communication for those universities that have not yet developed the full competencies in the areas.
“We have also unbundled Agriculture. Instead of just one degree in Agriculture, we now want Bachelors Degree in forestry, soil science, plant science, agronomy, animal science. So will also go for Creative Art. We want to see two streams of agriculture in the country.”

Femi needs to be very careful with the way he talks to Mr President. Assuming the "hate speech" bill has been signed, this is how Femi would have ended his entire life and political career (if any) just like that.

More also, Buhari is not all that bad has people portrayed him to be. To be a reformed democrat should require nothing less than a decade. With time, this "serving father" will make some quality decisions that's going to benefit the masses. We just have to give him enough time (probably a third term or so). There was a time I was elected as the class rep of my high school back home. It took me three (3) terms before I started performing. Assuming that my class members were impatient souls like the Nigerian populace, that's how they would have been denied of the privilege of good leadership.

A mechanic told me that when you buy a tokunbo car, when doing the servicing, like changing oil, and some other things. he said it is necessary to change the gear oil also.
Another mechanic said no need of changing the oil, that I should just top it with the required type of gear oil, he said if I change it the gear might get spoilt. blabla..
