Bro, I’d advise you to look for a small bag (for your phone and funds) to avoid pick pockets till you understand their mode of operation. Since you’re new, putting valuables things in your trouser pockets, isn’t really advisable.

Broda, the truth no matter how anyone would wanna paint it, is your lack self control. What if it were juveniles throwing advances at you in the school you teach, is that how you’d sleep with them too, or random girls in your area throwing advances at you, is that how you’d just become a community hotspot ?
Develop yourself (read books, listen to the right people….) and take charge on your thoughts, you’d be fine.

And secondly you can switch sim once the chip is configured with one particular sim ...

I've used chip and I can confirm to you that there is no difference from Factory Unlocked. It is cheaper and the resale value will just be closer to the amount you got it for after use. A win-win situation.

MTN is the best, although it depend on your area shall, but Airtel is a no especially if u are using your laptop, it corrupts laptop operating system
