Many prisoners have inundated Nigeria , asking to be transferred from Chinese prisons , but such transfers are impossible for now . Transfer of prisoners from China to Nigeria can only be possible if there is a signed treaty to the effect by the two countries . There is no treaty between the countries for prisoners’ transfer , when that exists the transfer of prisoners would be possible , the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa , has said . Dabiri-Erewa said at the seminar on Nigeria -China relations in Abuja on Thursday that , “ We get a lot of appeals and some prisoners say they want to move from one prison there to another , it is not going to happen ”. “We have been talking to them but their law is their law . My appeal to Nigerians is to obey the laws of that country because it is getting tougher ; they have sanctions and they follow through. ” She also said that Nigerian businesses were thriving in China . Dabiri-Erewa urged Nigerian citizens in China to abide by the laws of that country . She said that there were about 500 Nigerians in Chinese prisons for various offences . She also refuted claims that there were thousands of Nigerians detained in Chinese prisons . “You hear 2000 but that is exaggerated . I think we have less than 500 Nigerians in Chinese prisons . She urged Nigerians to learn from the Chinese culture of discipline and persistence in promoting national development . “Discipline and leadership are what we should learn from China ; they have a plan for the next 20 years , even the young ones in schools are being groomed for that plan . “They also have we can do spirit , it is working for them. She also called for continuous support for the current administration ’ s effort in the fight against corruption . SOURCE

Manchester United striker visited the champion in his changing room before the fight Anthony Joshua has built quite the fanbase on his ascent to the top of boxing and celebrity supporters do not come much bigger than Zlatan Ibrahimovic. ‘AJ’ has entertained Zlatan’s boss, Jose Mourinho, in his changing room at previous fights, but on Saturday it was the Swede’s turn to get up close and personal with the champion. The Manchester United striker visited Joshua in his changing room ahead of his 10th-round win over Carlos Takam, with Joshua referring to the pair as ‘lions". Zlatan has often referenced himself as a ‘lion’, doing so as recently as Friday as he discussed his recovery from a knee injury. And the veteran frontman will have been impressed by Joshua’s own recovery skills as he shrugged off a suspected broken nose to win for a 20th time in Cardiff. Joshua visited Ibrahomovic and the rest of the United squad after beating Wladimir Klitschko earlier this year, so the chances are he could be returning soon to hear his latest fan roar once more. Kaduna State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, have threatened to embark on industrial action if the State government goes ahead to sack any of its member for allegedly failing a competence test administered on them. The teachers’ threat followed a competence test administered by the State Government on primary school teachers in June, which over 50 percent of them were said to have failed, with government resolving to recruit new teachers. The test was pegged at Primary 4 level, and it examined teachers for competence in literacy and numeracy, through reading, writing and simple calculations. However, addressing the press on Thursday, the State NUT Chairman, Audu Amba said the teachers resolved after their executive council meeting to embark on a show down should government make good its decision to replace the teachers. Amba said that the test carried out by government was unprofessional, pointing out that the only competent body to test teachers was the Teachers’ Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN). He said, “We have resolved that by this exam that was given to our teachers, if any teacher is relieved of his appointment, NUT may not guarantee the industrial harmony with the government of Kaduna State. “It is with pain that we are taking this decision, while appreciating the concerns of the State government to uplift the status of teachers. “We have discussed with the State government to let it understand that teaching profession is not like other profession or industrial machines that you open and close at will. “It will do us a great harm if 21, 780 teachers are relieved of their jobs. “They were not tested based on professionalism or on what they studied. “The proficiency test can only be recognised if it is conducted by TRCN. Thr Statt insisted otherwise. What we are receiving today is not what we agreed with government. “Government will be setting us back 20 years if 22,000 teachers are relieved of thier jobs. “I cannot imagine where there will be replacement. The test was not in conformity with what is expected on how teachers are tested”. Meanwhile, Kaduna State Executive Council has approved the recruitment of 25,000 primary school teachers. Recruitment notices have already been advertised by the Kaduna State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). According to the notice, “This time around, there would be standardized tests for the recruits and a further training programme before the new teachers take over the classrooms." SOURCE

Many months after losing about N12 million to a bank staff and an account officer of the church, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Wednesday, made the church to smile again, when the full amount was recovered from the suspects and returned to the pastor of the church at an event in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.Mr. Ishaq Salihu, South- South Zonal Head of the EFCC, in Port Harcourt, handed over the money to one of the Regional Ministers of the Church, Pastor Mark Barango. According to EFCC, the said amount was stolen by a banker and the Account Officer of the church, Ameh Cyril Idakwoji, in a web of fraudulent diversion and suppression of the finances of the church. Troubles came for Idakwoji when Access Bank Plc petitioned the EFCC about some missing funds in the accounts of one of its corporate customers in Port Harcourt. The customer, Jepthah International School, East- West Road, Port Harcourt, Rivers State, could not access N37million in its account with the bank. The bank traced the scam to one of its staff, Idakwoji and named him the mastermind of the fraudulent dealings. Idakwoji doubled as the Account Officer of Jepthah International School and Redeemed Christian Church of God, Region 5, Port Harcourt, Rivers State. He defrauded the RCCG by suppressing and diverting cheques and cash meant for the Church to cover his shady deals in Jepthah International School. He was covering up by giving fake statements of accounts to both the school and the church. To execute his criminal schemes in RCCG, he forged the letter heads of the church’s Region 5 and the signatures of the pastor in charge of the Region. He also forged the signature of the church’s accountant and attached same to the August 2017 Salary Schedule of Jepthah International school to the tune of N7, 129, 128. 78. The Church denied giving instruction for the payment of the salary of the school. Investigations by the commission uncovered all the criminal movements of the fund of the church by Idakwoji and a sum of N11, 987, 844.11 found to have been stolen have now been recovered and returned to the church. Receiving the recovered sum, Pastor Barango, commended the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for being ” an agent of transformation. “My impression with the work of the EFCC is that it is perfect, perfect, perfect. The EFCC is an agent of transformation. Their work is perfect and the church is grateful that the money is returned to us,” Barango said. It will be recalled that a sum of N36 million recovered from Idakwoji, was returned to the management of Jepthah International School by the EFCC in September. While presenting the money to the church, Salihu emphasized the commitment of the EFCC to bursting any financial and economic scam, no matter how complex. He reiterated the zero- tolerance of the Commission for corrupt practices and warned criminal elements in the country to desist from fraudulent practices. “Crime and criminality are not limited to any group of people. They have no creed, no gender and no religion. The RCCG is a large church and we are pleased to have been able to recover the stolen money for the church,” he said. An appreciative Pastor Barango promised that the church will continue to pray for the continued success of the Commission. SOURCE

A 16-year-old boy, Adeola Okanlawan, on Tuesday told an Igbosere High Court in Lagos how his father was killed with a machete after complaining of smoke coming from a neighbour’s electricity generator. In his court testimony as first prosecution witness, Adeola said that their neighbour, one Ibrahim Tijani, killed his father with a cutlass in a disagreement over generator smoke. He said that his late father had called the defendant to complain about the smoke that was coming out of his generator set into his room. According to Adeola, his father asked the defendant to change the position of the generator set to stop the smoke from entering his room, but the defendant refused to do so. “Disagreement between my father and our neighbour over smoke coming out from the neighbour’s generator set, caused the death of my father. “My father had to push the generator away from its former position, but did not throw it away. “The defendant fought with my father which led to his death. “When the defendant was cutting my father with cutlass, I pleaded with him not to kill my father, but he refused to listen to me,” Adeola said in court. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Tijani was first arraigned on Jan. 21, 2016, on one-count charge of murder preferred against him by Lagos State. NAN also reports that the defendant, who resided in an uncompleted building with the deceased, at Okun in Ajah area of Lagos, had pleaded not guilty to the charge. The Prosecutor, Mr Adeniji Kazeem, the Attorney General of Lagos State, had told the court that Tijani, 31, unlawfully killed one Bashorun Okanlawan, 57, with machete at 2:30 a.m on Feb. 8, 2015. He said that the offence contravened Section 221 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011. Another prosecution witness, Sgt. David Abu, the Investigating Police officer, told the court that at about 2:13 a.m on the day of the incident, the defendant came to the police station to report a case of assault. Abu said that 10 minutes after the defendant made the report; the lifeless body of the deceased was brought to the station on a tricycle. “It was discovered that the deceased complained to the defendant to adjust his generator set because of the smoke entering his room. “When the defendant did not comply, the deceased complained to one ‘Afa’ (a chief) who owned a block industry near them. “It was on their way from the Afa’s place that the defendant picked a cutlass, went after the deceased and cut his left hand, leg and waist. “When the deceased was no longer moving, the defendant took a bottle and stabbed himself on the left arm, ran to the police station to make a report of assault,” Abu said. Another witness, Insp. John Babalola, who said the case was transferred to him at the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Panti, Yaba, also confirmed the incident. He identified the cutlass recovered from the scene of crime which was tendered and admitted in evidence as exhibit. However the defendant’s counsel, Onome Akpeneye, asked for an adjournment to enable him to cross- examine the witnesses. Consequently, Justice Adedayo Akintoye, adjourned the case until Nov.1, for continuation of trial. SOURCE

The leading presidential candidate in Liberia and footballing legend George Weah on Sunday was at the Sunday Church service of the The Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) in Lagos, Nigeria. George Weah and Pastor T.B. Joshua The famous Liberian Senator was said to have come to the Church service to “seek God’s face” for his country. During the sermon by Pastor T.B. Joshua which was broadcast live on popular Christian channel Emmanuel TV, Joshua warmly welcomed Weah and spoke directly to him. “My brother is here today because he loves his country and wants God’s choice for his country,” Joshua stated. “He is not here to impose himself. What does God say about his country, Liberia? What is God’s opinion? That is why he is here.” The cleric went further to reiterate that he was not favoring any particular side of the political spectrum but his own role was to pray for “the will of God” to be done in the nation of Liberia “We are not herbalists or witch-doctors; we are people of God. God’s choice is our choice. We cannot pray against God’s will,” Joshua stressed, with Weah nodding firmly in agreement. “Without God’s corresponding power, we cannot pray to Him. For every step we take – every movement and action – intimation comes first,” Joshua further expounded. “There must be suggestion from the Spirit to move before we move. If truly I am a man of God, I must hear from God – move or don’t move.” Joshua, who is known for political neutrality, noted that Liberia’s incumbent Vice President and Weah’s contender in the upcoming presidential run-off, Joseph Boakai had also contacted him to request a meeting. “God’s opinion is what we should seek in our country – simple! God is the Answer, the Final,” the influential Nigerian pastor added. Also present in the service was Senator Yormie Johnson, a former Liberian war lord and also one of the nation’s prominent presidential candidates. Joshua was instrumental in Johnson’s conversion to Christianity and mediated his reconciliation with the family of the late Liberian President, Samuel Doe. “You cannot twist or bribe God; He is not a man… The best place to go is to meet people God has given the grace to be a communicator between visible and invisible,” Joshua concluded. “Meet them and let them tell you what is the way out – the next thing to do.” The presidential run-off elections between Weah and Boakai is scheduled to hold on November 7, 2017. Other prominent visitors to The SCOAN in the past have included Tanzania’s President, John Magufuli, the late President of Ghana, John Atta Mills, Zimbabwean Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangarai and Julius Malema, South Africa’s fiery opposition leader. A Nigerian man serving life sentences for trying to set off a bomb in his underwear on a plane on Christmas Day 2009 is suing the U.S. Justice Department for denying his free speech and religious rights. "Federal Courthouse in Detroit where Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, known as the underwear bomber, pled guilty to all charges against him October 12, 2011 at the Federal Courthouse in Detroit, Michigan. Michigan. Abdulmutallab, a 24 year-old Nigerian man accused of attempting to blow up Northwest 253 flight as it was landing in Detroit on Christmas day in 2009 is scheduled for sentencing in January 12, 2012. AFP." Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab received multiple life sentences after the attempted attack on the Amsterdam to Detroit flight, which he called part of his “religious duty” as a Muslim to wage jihad against the United States. In a lawsuit filed in a Colorado federal court, he said authorities in the federal maximum security prison where he is being held were violating his constitutional rights by not allowing him to communicate with the outside world or practice his religion as a Muslim, court documents showed. Abdulmutallab, 30, was being held in long-term solitary confinement, the lawsuit said. It accused staff at the United States Penitentiary-Administrative Maximum Facility in Florence, Colorado of repeatedly force feeding him during a hunger strike using “excessively and unnecessarily painful” methods. Abdulmutallab also asserted the Justice Department went too far in restricting his communication, including not allowing him to talk to his nieces and nephews since his solitary confinement was based on a special administrative measures imposed on national security grounds. White supremacist inmates were also permitted to harass him during prayer times, according to the lawsuit. “Prisoners retain fundamental constitutional rights to communicate with others and have family relationships free from undue interference by the government,” said Gail Johnson, his attorney, in a statement to the New York Times. “The restrictions imposed on our client are excessive and unnecessary, and therefore we seek the intervention of the federal court.” Justice Department officials were not immediately available for comment. Abdulmutallab trained at an al Qaeda camp in Yemen under the direction of U.S.-born Muslim cleric Anwar al-Awlaki, according to the Justice Department. His bomb caused a fire on the Northwest Airlines flight, which had 289 people aboard, and he was subdued by passengers. SOURCE

TSTV came into the satellite TV industry in Nigeria with something very different from what the current industry players were offering its consumers. It is the first Nigerian TV to launch a Pay-as-you-use service, so you can pause your subscription whenever you are traveling. Unlike most existing companies also, TSTV is cheap. With just N5000 one can buy the decoder and dish and subscription prices are N200, N500, N1000, N1500 and N3000 respectively. Considering this first-of-its-kind, mind-blowing offer, Nigerians took it upon themselves to advertise the new company, forcing the current service providers to reconsider their modus operandi or risk loosing their customers to the latest rave. TSTV had announced that its full operations will begin on November 1, same date fixed for the commencement of StarTimes daily subscription package. Reacting to the news, most StarTimes customers could not hide their excitement even as they attributed the new development to ‘fear of TSTV’. SOURCE

Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, has fixed Nov. 20 for Sen . Enyinnaya Abaribe and two other sureties to produce Indigenous People of Biafra ( IPOB ) leader , Nnamdi Kanu for trial . The judge gave the order on Tuesday when Mr Ifeanyi Ejiofor , counsel to Kanu , told the court he could not explain the where- about of his client . The News Agency of Nigeria ( NAN ) recalls that the other sureties are Immanuel Madu and Torchokwu Uchendu . NAN reports that Kanu , whose bail was perfected by the voluntary endorsement of the three sureties failed to appear in court to stand his trial . Nyako said the sureties ’ failure to produce Kanu would compel the court to invoke the forfeiture of their N 100 million bail bond each. “The trial of Kanu and his co -defendants was fixed for Oct. 17 , but reports from both the prosecuting and defendant ’ s counsel show that Kanu is absent . “The sureties that helped to perfect his bail conditions are solely accountable for his presence for trial . These sureties are therefore, given time to produce him for trial . “In the event that they are unable to produce him, the court shall go on to invoke the remaining options left to it , ’’ she said . Earlier , Mr Mohammed Labaran , the prosecuting counsel had moved an application praying the court to grant a bench warrant for Kanu ’ s arrest. He said the defendant had flouted all the bail conditions spelt out for him by the court . The counsel to Kanu , Ejiofor objected to such application , adding that he had filed a suit against the Chief of Army Staff on the where about of Kanu. Ejiofor had claimed that the military ’ s invasion of his client ’ s home on July 11 led to his disappearance , adding that the military was in the best position to tell the where about of Kanu. Similarly , Mr Ogechi Ogbonna , counsel to Abaribe moved a motion seeking court’ s approval for the withdrawal of his client ’ s consent as Kanu ’ s surety. Ogbonna said his client was not in a position to tell the where about of the defendant at the moment . He further said Abaribe was no longer interested in offering his consent to serve as Kanu’ s surety in view of recent happenings . The judge , therefore, gave Ogbonna options ranging from automatic forfeiture of his client ’ s N 100 million bail bond, to time within which to still search for Kanu. Ogbonna , having received the hint of the court, selected the latter option . Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi are standing trial along with Kanu on a five - count charge of conspiracy to commit treasonable felony and publication of defamatory materials . Amaka Offor, one of the alleged girlfriends of kidnap kingpin, Chukwudubem Onwuamadike, aka Evans, has refuted claim by Evans’ lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, that policemen sexually molested her. Amaka, who expressed shock at the lawyer’s comment, said she had never met him. Amaka said that she was yet to speak with Evans since he was arrested on June 9, adding that her attempt to visit him at the Kirikiri Maximum Prison has been unsuccessful. “I don’t know where that lawyer got his story from and I have never met him”, she told Vanguard. “I have also not seen or spoken to Evans since he was arrested. I changed my phone number after he was arrested and I don’t think he has the new phone number. “After he was charged to court where he pleaded guilty; I tried to see him in prison and speak with him, but I was not allowed to see him. “The wardens did not tell me why I could not see him, but they took the food I brought for him and promised that they will give it to him. “I was troubled when I read the story of the lawyer accusing the policemen, who arrested Evans, of sexually molesting me, while they were trying to use me to lure Evans out of hiding. “I am not a baby and I know when I am being sexually molested and abused. Nothing of such happened and I think I have to set the record straight. “One week before Evans was arrested, some policemen accosted me on my way to the market and arrested me. Though, they were hostile to me at the time they arrested me. “I was completely in shock when they told me that Evans who I know and still call Chukwuebuka Mike, was a robber and kidnapper. I did not believe it. “They later told me that they wanted me to lure him to my house because I told them that he was fond of my children and he normally spent time with us. “The policemen were in my house, I was always in my room, and they were always in the seating room. They provided all the money we used in cooking throughout their one week stay in my house. “They were strategizing on how to arrest Evans. They also bought the fuel we used in powering the generator. “On the day Evans was arrested, he called me around 5:am and the policemen brought the phone to me in my room and gave it to me. I answered the call and he told me not to drop the call. “I thought I was standing by the gate and I did not put on any slippers. I walked out of the gate on barefoot. When I opened the gate, I saw him parked across the road and I entered into his vehicle. “The moment I saw him, I was panting and he asked what was happening. I told him policemen were in my house for one week and they were looking for him. He zoomed off immediately and took me to Iyana-Ipaja where he dropped me. “He left with my phone. That was the last time I saw him. I was surprised when his lawyer said I was sexually abused by the policemen who arrested him.” SOURCE

Nigeria will take the 1st position in Africa soon |
The Sureties of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, are expected to provide him in court tomorrow. Nnamdi kanu’s whereabouts is yet to be known following the invading of his home in Umuahia by men of the Nigerian army, under the Operation Python Dance II. Fate of Kanu’s sureties will top one of the issues Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court Abuja, will decide in court tomorrow in one of the applications initiated by the federal government. Recall that the federal government in one of the applications has asked the court to revoke the bail granted to Kanu in April on the grounds of ill-health which appeared to have been allegedly breached by the IPOB leader since he was allowed home on bail. Kanu may have put his sureties on imprisonment path should he fail to show up in court tomorrow for the hearing of the felony case against him. The Federal Government is arraigning Kanu and three others before a Federal High Court in Abuja on a five count criminal charge bordering on treasonable felony. Kanu’s sureties were the Chairman of the Senate’s South East Caucus, Eyinnaya Abaribe; a Jewish priest, Immanuu-El Shalom and an accountant and Abuja resident, Tochukwu Uchendu. However, speaking on the legal implication of Kanu’s failure to appear in court on the next adjourned date, Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on Prosecution, Chief Okoi Obono-Obla, told New Telegraph that Kanu has violated all the conditions prescribed by the court and government had sought the revocation of his bail. He said, “Following the military exercise carried out by the military in Umuahia, Abia state and the subsequent proscription of IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, has not been seen and may have gone underground. “So, it is not likely that he will appear in court on the next adjourned date for fear of being arrested by the police or security agencies. “Kanu had sureties that entered into recognizance or signed bail bonds as ordered by the court that led to his release. “The position of the law as provided under Section 173 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, 2015, is that, a defendant whom recognizance was entered on his behalf and who is subsequently released on bail is bound to appear before the court at every time and place to which during the course of the proceedings, the hearing may from time to time be adjourned. “It follows that if Kanu fails to appear before the Federal High Court on the next adjourned date, the judge will likely order a warrant for his arrest. “The implication of the failure of Kanu to appear in court on the next adjourned date on those who stood sureties for his recognizance is that his recognizance shall be forfeited.” SOURCE
