The National Christian Elders Forum, led by former Defense Minister Theophilus Danjuma (retired) and other senior politicians, on Tuesday, endorsed the Labor Party’s presidential nomination of Peter Obi, ahead of Saturday’s vote.

The Nigeria Police Force in Kebbi State arrested three individuals in Warrah town of Ngaski Local Government Area for allegedly possessing N17 million in counterfeit Naira notes. CP Ahmed Magaji Kontagora, the Commissioner of Police in the state, confirmed the arrests and paraded the suspects at the police headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.



According to Kontagora, the suspects were apprehended with the assistance of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) at the Warrah motor park. Aisha Buhari, Nigeria’s First Lady, shared a false press release on her verified Instagram page on Tuesday morning, claiming that the Central Bank of Nigeria had authorized the recirculation of N500 and N1,000 old Naira notes.

The circular stated that the apex court intended to make all the old Naira Notes as legal tenders until May 1, 2023.

Nigeria's currency in circulation has dropped to a record low of N1.39 trillion in January 2023, representing the lowest level in the last seven years.


The statistics from the Central Bank of Nigeria revealed that about N1.6 trillion was mopped up from the currency in circulation in January alone.

Notably, the currency in circulation dropped by 54 percent in January of 2023, compared to N3.01 trillion recorded in December.



Also, currency outside banks dropped by about N69.3 percent to N788.92 billion from N2.56 trillion recorded in December last year.

The information gathered shows that the drop followed the Central bank’s aggressive monetary policy to end the circulation of old naira notes and introduce limited circulation of new notes into the economy.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has released a summary of the number of polling unit and collation center agents submitted by various political parties for the 2023 general elections. The total number of party agents registered is 1,500,000 from 18 different political parties in 176,974 polling units.

Among the prominent parties, the Labour Party (LP) led by Peter Obi has the highest number of agents with 134,874, followed by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) with 96,034 agents. The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by Atiku Abubakar and the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Bola Tinubu both have 176,974 agents. The remaining 14 political parties have a total of 1,081,358 agents.

You can only submit your old naira notes once. This means that after depositing your old naira bank notes into the CBN once, you will not be allowed to deposit any other old bank notes that you collect again.

To deposit your old 1000, 500 and 200 naira notes at CBN, you must first visit the portal created by CBN, register, generate a reference and print a receipt before going to your nearest CBN branch.
After making the deposit at CBN, the exact amount you returned would be credited into the bank account you provided at CBN.

Governor of Kaduna State, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has advised residents of the state to continue using old Naira notes.


This comes after President Muhammadu Buhari declared in a national broadcast that the N1,000 and N5,000 old Naira notes are no longer legal tender. However, El-Rufai has assured the people of Kaduna State that they will not lose the money they have in old notes and urged them to remain calm and peaceful.

A tragedy has struck at Chrisland International High School in Opebi, Lagos, as a student, Whitney Adeniran, has passed away during the school’s inter-house sports. Whitney’s father, Dr. Michael Adeyemi Adeniran, reported that the 12-year-old girl was in good health when she was picked up by the school bus for the event.
