PoliticsRe: Homeland Security Appointment Debate: Nigeria Must Avoid Institutional Overlap by Oracleee: 7:06pm On May 11
Gotocourt:
why was he not qualified?
The concern isn’t personal it’s about institutional fit and professional background.

Nuhu Ribadu is widely respected for his role in leading the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, where he built a reputation around tackling corruption, financial crimes, and institutional accountability. That experience is valuable, no doubt. However, the Office of the National Security Adviser is fundamentally different in scope and demands.

The NSA role is heavily centered on national defense coordination handling threats like insurgency, terrorism, banditry, and asymmetric warfare. These require deep familiarity with military strategy, counterinsurgency doctrine, intelligence synthesis, and battlefield realities. Nigeria has been dealing with complex threats such as Boko Haram insurgency and other non-conventional warfare challenges for years.
Ribadu’s career trajectory, primarily rooted in policing and financial crime enforcement, does not naturally provide extensive exposure to Counterinsurgency operations
Guerrilla warfare tactics
Military command structures
Strategic defense planning in active conflict zones.

Even within the police, his rise was more investigative and administrative than operational in terms of kinetic security engagements.
By contrast, a seasoned military general particularly one who has commanded troops in active theatres would typically have Direct combat and field experience
Practical understanding of insurgent tactics
Experience coordinating multi-force operations (Army, Air Force, intelligence units)
Familiarity with the psychological and territorial dynamics of warfare
This is not to say a civilian or police officer cannot serve as NSA, but in a country facing persistent and evolving security threats, there is a strong argument that the role benefits from leadership grounded in military operational experience.

So the question isn’t whether Ribadu is competent he clearly is in his domain but whether his background aligns optimally with the current security realities Nigeria faces.

You can give me facts otherwise.

RomanceRe: Would You Marry A Single Mother? by Oracleee: 3:30pm On May 11
drnoel:
Also not true. Some men are best unmarried. Have seen so many cases were there was no other way. Marriage is not by force and one must not die as a result of it
Some people don’t like hearing hard truths, but it doesn’t change reality.
First, life doesn’t cancel consequences. Every decision good or bad has a price. And the painful part is most times, the people who pay are not the ones who made the decision. It’s the innocent ones, especially children. They didn’t ask to be born into confusion, broken homes, or instability, yet they carry it for life.

Second, let’s stop pretending people are clueless. Responsibility exists. A woman has full control over her body. Nobody sleeps with her unless she allows it except in cases like rape. So let’s not act like most situations are accidents. People know what they’re doing.
They know the difference between a man who is serious and one who is just playing. They know who has direction and who doesn’t. But many times, they ignore the good and chase what is exciting, risky, or “spicy.” That whole idea of “I can change him” has destroyed more futures than people want to admit.

Third, you cannot build a future on illusion. You cannot reform a grown adult who doesn’t want to change. that’s self-deception. A man who has built irresponsible habits over years will not suddenly transform because of feelings.
And let’s be honest when a relationship crashes, people from the outside like to assume, “If I were there, I would have done better.” Most times, you don’t even know the full story. What you think you’re seeing is not the complete picture. There are things beneath the surface you may never understand.
At the end of the day, nobody escapes accountability. Choices have consequences. And if people refuse to be disciplined in their decisions especially around sex, relationships, and family then someone, somewhere, will pay for it.

That’s reality and I won't be the clean up guy that might not have been picked before the mess.

My family is on a stock up budget of 50k monthly about 20k weekly out of pocket expenses for food, soups, snacks, take outs etc that brings us to a total of about 110k or roughly 120k roughly $90 a month......if you divide that by 30days,you have 4k per day for a family of 5.

A 1/4 bag of rice will take us a whole month, beans, garri, semo, amala, yam when its surplus, pasta, noodles, sweet potatoes which us quite cheap, plantain when surplus, pepper of 10k would last 2 weeks......Ile epo market is quite close to me and I often drive through mile 12 several times in a month where pepper, onions, potatoes and yam are quite cheap.

Provisions golden morn/corn flakes,oats,custard,eggs,sugar,milk

Snacks like biscuits, shawama, meat pie, bole, puff puff or donuts.

Proteins....majorly fish,pork,eggs.....we have really reduced our beef consumption due to its high cost which I always find annoying byvthe way......goat meat and turkey on few occasions.

Minimum wage in america is about $7.95 per hour while in Nigeria its about 70k a month but based on my observation the lowest income family should be bringing home at least 200k monthly in Nigeria as dual income......I see this and I have studied this.
Just imagine a supposed family man.......God really needs to call folks like this to himself, they are littering the ecosystem. Hopefully natural selection does.

babtoundey:
I got myself into this trouble three weeks ago.

I was out of town when I received a call from a friend. We had been friends since when we were in school. Though we didn't see regularly (the last time we saw before this incident was over 8 years ago) but we conversed regularly. When he called he informed me he needed to stay with me that he had an issue with his landlord. He wasn't really explicit or straight in his explanation. When i was reluctant, he mentioned that he was staying for just one week. Okay, no problem. I said.

When i returned home, i refuse to call him because it needed my space for myself so as to be able to attend to some urgent works. The second day after the agreement was sealed, he asked if i had returned i told hime i wouldn't be returning until that evening.

This friend came with his bag very early the following day which was a Monday morning. It was after he settled in that I got to know that he left another friends house for my house. And before he went to that person house, he had been staying with another friend. Whatever reason he left that person's house, i wouldn't know. The moment he came, he started calling people (his mum, brother and girlfriend), citing my address as his current location.

My major headache is, this person had already spent three weeks and he doesn't seem ready to leave. All he does is, press phone, sleep and wakeup. He has already strained my food supply. I am hardly at home; I go to work in the morning and return late at night. I just noticed food I can't finish in two months vanished in two weeks. He uses my toiletries (bathing soap included), my hair cream and body cream.

What pains me is, he isn't coming out straight and is not seem comfortable discussing what his plans are. He only seems fixated with online business or whatsoever.

I will appreciate ideas on how to tell this friend to excuse me.
Dude might need help more than you think and might not know how to communicate it. Let me share a personal story and hope it helps you see it differently.

Something very similar happened to me years ago with a close friend from secondary school. He was a brilliant guy back then sharp, focused, and doing well.

One day, he called me while I was in Lagos and said he wanted to come visiting, I agreed. But when he came… one week turned into two, then three, then a whole month. He wasn’t doing anything just on his phone all day, no plans to leave or direction.

It started to frustrate me, and honestly, it was affecting me financially too.
At some point, I couldn’t take it anymore. One evening after work, I told him we needed to talk. I drove him out, parked, and asked him directly What’s really going on with you?
At first, he brushed it off, but after pressing him, he opened up. He told me he was lost. He had left his job, had no place to stay, and was too ashamed to go back home. He didn’t even understand his own life anymore.

Instead of pushing him out, I decided to help him get back on his feet. I encouraged him to take a teaching job, and he started working at a school. I also pushed him into doing home lessons. Slowly, things started to improve.

Fast forward to today he’s now in Canada, doing well for himself. We’re still very close. In fact, he always reminds me that I was there for him when he was down bad.
So when I read your story, I see someone who might be stuck, ashamed, or silently struggling.

That said, helping doesn’t mean enabling. Talk to him. Have a real, honest conversation. Understand what’s going on. Then set clear expectations and boundaries.
Sometimes, you’re not just hosting someone you’re standing at a moment where you can change their life.
And who knows? The same person might become a strong connection or blessing in your future.

If you throw him out he would still go elsewhere to inconvenience another person, tell him he needs a job or something doing to fetch money. If he's not consuming your food and toiletries, you only need to endure for him to get a new place or loan him to get the smallest accommodation. Some friends are closed to you like a brother they're there for you in your lowest moments when everyone tags you a liability, while some friends would run once you become irrelevant.

Much anticipated alert...just arrived

I stock with zenith last year January.

500k....I got #105,000 with fractions

So guy e bi like 100k,na 21k and fractions

Guys make Una help me do the calculations

Guys dem cheat me?
If you invested ₦500,000 and got about ₦105,000 return after roughly 1 year and 4 months (from January 2025 to May 2026), then,

Profit = about ₦105,000
Total value now = about ₦605,000

Hence, your profit is roughly 21%.

Whether they “cheated” you depends on what type of investment it was.
If it was a normal bank savings account, 21% is actually very high.
If it was treasury bills, fixed deposit, or stock investment, then it depends on
the exact product,
the agreed interest/dividend,
and whether the stock price itself also increased.

If by “I stock with Zenith” you mean shares in ZENITHBANK, then the ₦105k may include dividends and/or capital appreciation,
and 21% overall return is not bad at all for that period.
So from the numbers alone, it does not immediately look like cheating but I stand to be corrected.

ayoncox:
Of course you are right, we are considering scarce resources here and the fact is that inflation rate is on the high side, but my context and approach is a combination of textbooks and critical thinking based on market realities and essential needs. Also leveraging on knowledge and digitisation systems already in place. My approach on the topic and decision making are highly contextual beginning with etymological approach of the purview and derivation of witty narratives from it. For instance during one of my studies years ago after I quizzed one of my tenants who lost his money to a particular Ponzi scheme, I dug deeper and realised that intentionally the concept of what investment is has been whitewashed to be detrimental with focus on external and not internal without putting in place systems. I came up with the concept of investment being internal and external, internal having 3 phases and external being a function of the 3, based on that I realised Ceteris Peribus one will have a successful journey if internal systems are well built. Meanwhile for the public, I do advice keep 60 to 70% of your funds in low risk investments like bonds and treasury bills, and work on building on the 3 phases with the remaining 30 to 40% to achieve 100 to 1000% based on knowledge, capacity, network and leverage.

So you see if a person is diligent to work on understanding the mathematical and economic game and creating ones system based on the three one is safe and have the higher chance of getting maximum values.
Well said. The question is if the op is having the exposure to take up the ECONOMIC GAME as you called it.

My first time of flying was in 1978, I was still a boy then and my whole family was travelling.

I remember one funny experience I had one time about 18 years ago...

We were flying from Owerri Airport to Lagos Airport, usually when the plane touches down everyone will still remain in their seats while the plane taxis down to the apron to park after which they will open the doors then passengers start to disembark.

On this occasion immediately the plan landed this guy just jumped out of his seat and ran to the door.

It was when he got to the door and realized that no one was following him to drag the door with him, instead we were all still seated he sheepishly went back to his seat.

Embarrassment wan kee the guy that day cheesy

I think that was his first time of flying so he probably thought he was in a Molue bus where passengers rush to the door immediately the driver gets to the bus stop. 😂

It was so hilarious 😂
Lol dude was acclamatized to the rough side of life already. Something of this nature happen to me in secondary school. My mum had financial constraints when I was in my last year's in primary school so she withdrew me to a public. Rough tough life. And I just evolved into it naturally. Instead of buttery, we had under a tree where Iya Lara do sell her wares, and most students in this place hardly bring food from home hence the rush and all to get to the place and buy food. Well..... I started refusing my mum packing me lunch and I was contended with 20naira money for food. Jss2, mum got a great job and took me to this school......... Damn I was like a fish out of water. Instead of mango trees, they have a buttery where students do more of seating to eat then buying snacks. Na only me dey always run from class once I hear break time. Very embarrassing those days before my mind was conditioned back to the normal human reasoning.

Have you traveled by air before?

How was the experience?

Come share some tips for first timers.

Here is mine:

Flight was scheduled to leave by 4:35 from jos airport to Lagos via Abuja.

Flight ticket was booked and I headed straight to the airport, we did weighing of luggage and straight to the ticket booth where I submitted my booking ticket and passport.

My bag was tagged and sent to the loading truck.

We then went to the immigration section and checked after which I was shown to the waiting hall for departures.

Flight arrived from Lagos and touched down at 4:15pm in Jos with Abuja and jos passengers, when they finish alighting an announcement came from that their loud speaker and we lined up for ticket checks and body check then straight to boarding.

After we had sat down in the plane the hostesses welcomed us on board and the normal demonstration about safety started, I was just calm and over calm that gave me away sha. But I don’t think anybody noticed.

The plane taxied to the runway and I was eager to feel the speed rush. And when it was time for take off I smiled when the plane engaged the engine for speed.

I sha fasten my seat belt very well and I sat close the the window.

My stomach did one kind fine sweet feeling like this and it was awesome. Had some turbulence because of weather but it was a cool flight that day.
I was expecting seat belt error and deeper illustration of the turbulence. I said a prayer upon take off during mine as I wasn't sure how my tummy was reacting to the takeoff

InvestmentRe: How To Know If A Nigerian Stock Is Overvalued Or Undervalued by Oracleee: 1:59pm On May 06
Solid breakdown.

But I’ll add something important most people still miss.
Valuation without growth is a trap.
A stock can have
Low P/E
Low P/B
High dividend yield
…and still be a bad investment.
Why? Because the business itself may be weak.

Fundamental analysis is not just about ratios it’s about the quality and direction of the business behind those numbers.

Where I think people should go deeper is
1. Earnings Growth > Cheap Price
A low P/E only makes sense if earnings are stable or growing.
If profits are declining, that “cheap” stock is just cheap for a reason.

2. High Dividend Yield Can Be Misleading
In Nigeria especially, a very high yield can signal
Price has dropped badly
Or limited future growth
In fact, some studies show high dividend yield can even reflect weaker growth expectations.

3. Debt and Cash Flow Matter More Than People Think
Plenty of companies show profits on paper but struggle with real cash.
Also, in a high-interest environment like Nigeria, too much debt can destroy value fast.

4. Macro Matters (This is Nigeria, not the US)
You can’t ignore
Inflation
FX risk
Government policies
These can make a “cheap” stock stay cheap for years.

My simple rule. Instead of just,
P/E + P/B + Dividend
I look at
Earnings trend
Debt level
Cash flow
Industry outlook
Then valuation.
