Education / Re: Can One Graduate With First Class After Failing A Course? by OriginalJohnny: 9:48pm On Feb 23, 2021
McLizbae:

Yes. The grades have points, and it's like this,
A=5
B=4
C=3
D=2
E=1 (if applicable)
F=0

Let's say the course unit is 3. To calculate the GPA, you multiply ur grade point with the course unit, and the divide the answer with the course unit again. E.g, A = 5x3=15, 15÷3= 5.00. To calculate CGPA, add all multiples of your grade points together and divide by the sum of all your courses units.

Now let's say:
100 level
1st sem: 3unit chm101=A, 2unit mat101=F
2nd sem: 3unit chm102=A, 2unit mat102=A

200 level
1st sem: 3unit chm201=A, 2unit mat201=A and 2unit mat101=A (carried over)

Now let's calculate your CGPA up to 1st sem 200 level.

Couses/grade units points
100 level 1st&2nd sem
Chm 101 A. 3. 15
Mat 101 F. 2. 0
Chm 102 A. 3. 15
Mat 102 A. 2. 10
200 level 1st sem
Chm 201 A. 3. 15
Mat 201 A. 2. 10
Mat 101 A. 2. 10
------—------------------------------------
17. 75

CGPA at 200 1st sem will be 75÷17= 4.41

Let say you didn't write mat 101 again and pass with an A, then our calculation becomes:

Couses/grade units points
100 level 1st&2nd sem
Chm 101 A. 3. 15
Mat 101 F. 2. 0
Chm 102 A. 3. 15
Mat 102 A. 2. 10
200 level 1st sem
Chm 201 A. 3. 15
Mat 201 A. 2. 10
------—------------------------------------
15. 65
CGPA will be 4.33

So re-sitting and scouring an A has added 0.8 to the CGPA.

Thanks so much for the explanation smiley

Yes! Just try to get an A or worse, a B when re-writing the failed course.
If you can make 'A's in 90% 0f all the courses offered, you will have 1st class regardless what grade you have in the remaining 10%.

just curious though. does it mean the carry over course get added to one's CGPA when one resit and performed well in it?
Programming / Re: Most Sought After Fronted Or Backend Developer? by OriginalJohnny: 8:04am On Feb 18, 2021

Well,answering this question will require collecting some statistical data online,in which I am not cut out for.

What I know is,if you are good in any of them,like extremely good,then a lot of job opportunities awaits you!

So it is advised that you learn whatever you are comfortable doing,for now,there is high demand for both.
If you can combine both and be a full stack developer,it will be helpful too.

Thanks for your response.
