nedum360: My sister is single. The vo never asked. N I have a statement of account of about 2.5 m. The vo never asked though it was on my i20. I concur it's possible I fumbled the reason for choosing the school. Is it possible to reapply n request expedite appointment. Resumption is 12th jan Everything is based on assumption. That your sister will sponsor you is an assumption. You have to talk about the right things to make the vo see you positively. When the Vo asked about your sponsor, you would have put it in that you would be co sponsing your education. That you have saved some money while working and you sister promised to sponsor you as well that's why she is major sponsor. Now the Vo assumes that if ur sister has issues, you can take care of yourself at least for 6 months to a year. You can reapply, but the date might be a problem. You can ask the school for an extension letter or defer till fall 2015. |

nedum360: Congratulations to all those that had their visas approved. Was issued a 214b denial today @ the Abuja consulate. VO: Good morning. Even before I got to the counter Me: Good morning Vo: Pass your documents. Which I did Vo: You're going to UNT for an MPH Me: Yes Vo: Y UNT Me: Accredited by council on education for pub health, well structured curriculum includes all sub specialties in pub health and the opportunity of doing research work on Ebola infection in the hospital Vo: Who's paying? Me: my elder sister Vo: Y Me: She's been in charge of my education since I was little and paid part of my tuition in medical school Vo: So you're a medical doctor Me: Yes Vo: Where do you work? Me: in a private hospital Vo: As what? Me: Medical officer Vo: What's ur specialty? Me: Gp Vo: What kind of work do you do in the hospital Me: In patient n outpatient management of illnesses Vo: What does your sister do? Me: She's a paediatrician Vo: Pass me her bank statement. After scrutinizing, asked for reference letter. Which I presented. Scrutinized again n continued typing Vo: Have u travelled out of the country Me: No. I've not had any reason to travel uptill now Vo: Typed for a while before issuing the 214b.
The guy didn't even ask of any family ties. He denied all the young people before me though most were tourism visa. School resumes 12th December. I'm considering reapplying n requesting for expedite appointment. Cos I feel this denial is unjust. What's your take on this. Your candid opinion would be invaluable. Sorry about the denial. I believe you didn't state your case thoroughly. I think your reason for choosing the school wasnt convincing enough. You fumbled when she asked where you work; Private hospitals have names. She started to probe you and you fell into her trap. In her mind, you are a medical doctor that earns a salary per month yet you are not co-sponsoring your education, you have no grant, no assistantship or anything. from your age, she will know your sister might have a family of her own and you might be a burden on her as well. To send someone to med school is expensive in nigeria and more expensive in the USA. To me It's not cogent enough. They denied you because of any or both reasons aforementioned. You need to sell yourself to them. From my experience, that's what I think. I might be wrong sha |

skyfaze: Goodmorning house! Pls i need advice from gurus in the house. I am 25yrs and i finished sec school since 2005 and i have been into family business since then but am planning to go 4 an undergraduate program (business admin) at one comnunity college in US which doesn't require TOEFL or SAT exam according to my research. My question nw is, will age be a barrier since i want to use my brother as my sponsor and will not having a TOEFL or SAT result affect my chances of getting a visa? You stopped schooling 9 years ago. Now you want to go for an interview with a community college I-20 without any standardized tests. I see red flags everywhere. Most community colleges are red flags. You need to write both Sat and toefl/ielts test to make you look like a genuine student. Apply to some universities thereafter you start to map out how to cover the 9years of not schooling. |

I was also not asked for sponsor's bank statement, if not I had it with me and even my own bank statement. The way the interview went was exactly how, I wrote it here.
Moreso, you need a better if not professional communications in administrative duties. I've been given admission to study for a MSc in Communications in the aforementioned school. kwenu: Hey guys , we make one mistake by not posting the cost of tution for the university we want to attend, u dont rely on interview scripts alone when trying to help others, we should also help post cost of tuition, school location, etc.but ur names u may not expose onhere and other personal details for safety/security reasons. u ll ask why?
Tell if two people aply to different universities on different locations, lets say mr A applied to the university of Texas and got admission and was granted visa at the embassy seeing the tuition is about $40,000 and texas happens to be a dangerous place for people/ visitors. natural disaster where visitors/people avoid. but mR A was granted visa
Now mr B applies to the University of Newyork where u have good weather , no or less natural disasters likely to occur in that area but with less tuition of about $7,000 , now the embassy here refuses to grant mr B visa
A and B did not apply to red flag schools and both have good documentation
i may not have used a good exaple here but i m saying to you guys to provide more evidence here so that we can make good /right judgement based on evidence provided so as to help others planing on going there to study.
its unfair to spend much moneyand some long process and at the end of the day they deny people visa Exactly the same reason why you should do research yourself and not be spoon fed. You don't apply to mr a university because some group of people are doing so. Everybody is different and we all have our different career goals n research interests. |

michaelweezy: My Transcript goes thus at the Lagos embassy 6.30am 25th Nov :
After rejecting like 4 people at a troll including a whole family that wanted to go on holiday... she was the Brunette/Latino at the third counter
VO Hey Good morning Me Hi VO your mission in the US Me going for my masters degree in fin and risk mgt VO checked my passport and immediately asked how did you find out about the school Me I did extensive research on the internet using usnews.com and princetonreview.com VO so why University of Colorado Denver Me (gave her the regular bobo) the curriculum fits my career goals, and the finance courses I reviewed gave me the opportunity to specialize in corporate finance by selecting electives such as MERGER AND ACQUISITION, FINANCIAL MODELLING AND INVESTMENT MANAGEMENT (didn't even know what I was saying at this point but I remained confident and finished my sentence and she was already nodding) VO immediately stopped typing and concentrated on me now asked how many other schools did you apply to Me 2 schools GWU and UMASS VO what made you select UCD over the other schools Me my main reason asides the facts listed above was that I stumbled on a publication online by a professor in the finance department Rick Simmons, in the publication he stated "What is the value of a firm, what price are u willing to pay" this means what an acquiring company willing to pay to a target company to gain control and all other related activities in the capital market. (at this point she was nodding like agama lizard) may be she didn't really understand but she was impressed. even me sef no understand but I just dey bobo dey goh. VO what did you study and what school Me BSC Acct LAG VO when did u graduate Me 23 December 20xx (make sure u mention the same date month and year in ur DS160 I noticed she was looking at it on her screen) VO what have u been doing since then Me went for NYSC, and worked with xxxx left the company and I am currently with xxxx VO what do u do there Me consultancy services to clients in the Bleep industry VO who is ur sponsor Me My dad VO what does he do Me he's a director with xxxx company VO I guess imma gonna have to issue u a VISA, here is your I-20, u can pick it up on Friday. please keep ur I-20 close to you at all times as you will need to show it at the POE. you are also invited to an orientation program blah blah blah (at this point I was not hearing anything again, I had gone deaf) Me thank you.. turned back and signaled @osahons9 to give him adequate ginger (as he was looking really tensed up lol) and walked away.
No bank statement was asked, No GRE or TOEFL report requested. nothing
Key.. 1 Please put God first. I can't count how many times I prayed for his favour. 2. speak boldly and in clear terms and make sure u complete each sentence you start. this means u are able to pass across ur message. it gives you a level of respect 3. Smile and always put on an aura of pride around you especially during interviews. shows them that you are not desperate.
Thanks Guys, this thread really helped me a lot and special shout out to @Bigfrancis for taking time out of his busy schedule to assist me.
adios I wasn't tensed. I dey pray to avoid that chinko. She was just on a 214b spree. Besides you were frowning, I was like hope it's not 214b oh |

sholay2011: Hello.
Went for my interview today and was denied. The VO that attended to me was a white lady.
Me: Hello. VO: Hello. Please, place your four right hand fingers on the bla bla...
I fingerprinted.
VO: So, why did you choose Oklahoma State University? Me: Well, I chose Oklahoma State University because it's a land grant institution that gets enough funding through allocated federal lands which are invested into practical teaching of agriculture.
VO: How did you get to find out about the school? Me: I searched for top schools offering my course of study using usnews.com and applied to three of them.
VO: So, why did you choose Oklahoma State University over others? Me: Well, their curriculum is more focused on my area of specialization and I have already developed a close relationship with Professor Larry Sanders via email whose research interest is the same as mine.
VO: Have you been to the US before? Me: No, I've not had a reason to.
VO: Who will be sponsoring you? Me: My father.
VO: What does he do? Me: * Mentioned his rank in the Customs*
VO: Okay.
She types for a while and then brings out the devilish blue paper (I was heart broken)
VO: I'm sorry...we wouldn't be able to... (couldn't really hear the rest).
Gurus in the house should please look into my transcript and suggest what I should have done better because I'm considering reapplying. I spoke loudly and a bit slowly, maintained eye contact and gesticulated when necessary.
The woman though had denied like five people before me sha. All is well.
Congrats to those that got theirs. Your reasons for choosing the school was weak. She gave you another chance again to tell her why you chose the school, again you blew it. You got the initial part of the curriculum although you didn't say anything about the ranking. I feel the second part was where u messed up. You would have said it's because of a research done by the prof that it tallies with your research interest and you want to join the research team. Now you will need to know more about d research. Incase they ask what d research is all about and relate it to the industry or sector you want to work in when u return home (WE KNOW THE STORY) What I noticed yesterday was that people cram answers and when a different questions comes up they off balance. Read, cram and understand. You will know when to explain and when to give crammed answers. Refire bro. All the best |

Me: hey! how is it going? Vo: Fine, Good Morning Me Good Morning Vo: you are going to UHN. Why UHN Me: It's a top tier regional university (North) and it has a computational fluid dynamics research group which tallies with my research interest. I will be joining the research team coordinated by Dr. Sam Daniels. Vo: What is this research all about? Me: It is all about simulation, using mathematical models executable by computers to analyze and solve problems regarding fluid flow. Having done my internship at the Nigerian Petroleum Development for company, I realized that oil and gas companies rely heavily on CFD because of the need to optimize production and transportation with little or No environmental impact. (Vo cuts in) VO: when did you finish this internship? Me: January 2011 VO: when did you graduate? Me:24th May, 2012 VO: which school? Me: I said it VO: Have you spoken to anyone in the school? Me: Yes, Dr Sam Daniels Via skype Vo: What does your father do? (Me nor know why e ask me sha cos my papa no be my sponsor) Me: He is a medical Doctor; He works at xxxx Hospital in Benin City, Edo State. Vo: What kind of doctor? Me: Family Doctor Vo: How old are you? Me: xxxx Vo; Which test did you write? Me: GRE and IELTS tests Vo: Why aren't you working? Me: i completed my NYSC in November 2013. My focus was to go for my masters so i took out time to prepare for my standardized tests as well as putting in my applications. I am currently taking a four months oil and gas acquisition skills training at the ATS Allied Group. VO: Why didn't you just go to a servicing firm? Me: Training is needed first before you apply to a servicing firm as they will not teach me from the basics. You need this training to work in the flow station (VO Nods) VO: How Many Schools did you apply to? Me: 6....University of Oklahoma, Norman Oklahoma, Texas A n M university college station, Texas, Baylor university, Waco, Texas (VO cuts in) Vo: Give a moment. He went to pick up a small paper from the chinko lady sharing 214b handbills. Samuel we organize a pre departure guild to all accepted applicants. Please try to come around for it. Me: Okay sir. Vo: Collect your passport at this address on Thursday. Take you i-20 n sevis confirmation. Me: Alright. Me: Thanks and have a great day.
I still didn't realize that was it. So i was just walking towards the door then i said "Their father". I started bouncing home. No document was asked even SOA of my sponsor. Him don first travel go US before so i believe they have his records.
I learnt one new trick too. See the VO as if you talking you best friend. You will be so relaxed. I didn’t feel the pressure or anything. It works like magic. The minute you see them as gods, it’s over before it even started.
IN the END it was God's Grace. |
