By Abraham Olayinka One individual has been arrested by law enforcement authorities in connection with the creation and spread of false, defamatory content targeting Tony O. Elumelu, CFR, Group Chairman of United Bank for Africa (UBA), the bank confirmed in an official statement on Sunday. The arrests follow a wave of fabricated posts that went viral on X (formerly Twitter), including one by a user identified as @Directorkem, whose post falsely claimed that Elumelu had taken his children for H!V testing, only to discover his first daughter had been "disv!rgined" and tested positive for the v!rus. The post, which contained what appeared to be a doctored medical document bearing the name "Oge Elumelu," garnered over 1.1 million views before triggering widespread condemnation online. The post was part of a broader defamatory campaign that also falsely alleged that Elumelu had divorced his wife, Awele — a claim UBA swiftly and categorically denied. In a strongly-worded formal notice issued by UBA's Group Head of Brand, Marketing and Corporate Communication, Alero Ladipo, the bank described the publications as "entirely fabricated, reckless, and without basis," adding that the claims were "a deliberate falsehood designed to mislead the public and cause reputational harm." The bank confirmed that security agencies had been notified and arrests had already been made, with UBA stating that "three individuals directly connected to the creation and dissemination of these malicious falsehoods have been arrested." The three arrested suspects are Kingsley Akunemeihe, also known online as @Directorkem; Chigozie Ihebom; and John Nwanorue, also known as @problemchimky. Akunemeihe, the originator of the viral post on X, had amassed significant engagement before users began flagging the content as dangerous and defamatory. Many commenters warned of legal consequences warnings that have now materialised. UBA confirmed that investigations are ongoing and are expected to lead to further arrests and prosecutions of all persons involved in originating, amplifying, or sustaining the defamatory campaign. The bank also issued a stern warning to anyone still sharing the content. UBA warned individuals and platforms spreading the content to desist immediately, stating that this serves as a "formal notice to all individuals, platforms, and entities involved in the publication, reposting, or continued dissemination" of the false claims. UBA, one of Africa's largest financial services groups with operations in over 20 countries, reiterated that it will take a zero-tolerance approach to defamatory publications targeting its leadership and brand. A LESSON FOR SOCIAL MEDIA USERS This case serves as a stark reminder of the legal risks attached to spreading unverified claims online, particularly those targeting public figures. The development highlights the increasing use of legal and law enforcement mechanisms by corporations to combat false narratives in the digital space, particularly as social media continues to amplify unverified claims at scale. UBA has stated it will pursue all necessary legal avenues both civil and criminal to hold accountable every person found to be involved.

Palpable fear has gripped students of the University of Ibadan who live in off-campus hostels, as armed robbers struck again on Saturday, shooting to death an Okada rider in the area. This is coming after some armed robbers had reportedly shot two persons at an off-campus at Agbowo community, Batika and Agricola streets in the early hours of last Wednesday, carting away the students’ gadgets and belongings. Some of the students on Sunday recounted how they were traumatised by the early morning invasion which forced some of the students to flee the area again. One of the students, who identified himself as Gabriel, said he and his colleagues at his hostel could not sleep all through the night as they heard gunshots for hours. Narrating how the incident happened, he said the Okada rider was riding with a passenger and the hoodlums stopped him at the junction before the UI second gate and attempted to collect his motorcycle. He said, “The okada rider did not want them to take away the motorcycle and as that was going on the passenger jumped off and fled the scene. Sensing that the okada rider’s resistance might put them in danger, one of them brought out a gun and shot him.” Another resident of the area who declined to give his name said he and his mates did not sleep at all through the night because of gunshots. He said, “The killing happened about 8:05 pm and we all rushed inside. But shortly after that, we heard a siren and gunshots which we believed should be from security agents.” https://campustimesnigeria./2022/01/10/ui-students-flee-off-campus-hostels-as-armed-robbers-kill-one/ |

Shock as ‘female prisoner’ is discovered to actually be a male A shocking event has happened at Shurugwi Female Prison last week when a man pretending to be a female prisoner was discovered. The man identified as Praise Mpofu is 22 years old and was putting on a woman’s cloth when he was arrested. Praise is known for dressing as a woman to lure male clients who he would steal from. His arrest came after he allegedly stole from a man at Gweru’s Mkoba 6 suburb. The man paid him as a female commercial sex worker, but later discovered that Praise is a man as he stole from the man and ran away. Praise got apprehended by the police operatives at Mkoba 6. However, he was dressed as a woman, with a female hairstyle and also a stuffed bra. While at the Gweru Magistrate’s Court, he did not disclose that he was actually man, this made the magistrate to send him to Shurugwi Female Prison. Due to logistical issues, he wasn’t transferred to the female prison but was temporarily detained at the Gweru Young Offenders Prison where he was housed with juvenile female offenders for two days. He ran out of luck after he was taken to Shurugwi Female Prison. Midland Prisons spokesperson Nevson Tagarira who confirmed the incident, told Masvingo Mirror; “Yes, there was an inmate who came from ZRP through the magistrate’s court pretending to be a female. It was only identified at Shurugwi Female Prisons through our normal channels on admission that he was actually a male inmate, not a female as he was pretending to be. Mpofu was taken from Shurugwi female prison to Hwahwa Maximum Prison on the same day.” A female nurse who is responsible for searching all new prisoners, is said to have discovered that the new prisoner was actually male. Another source told the publication; “Mpofu spend two days at Gweru Young Offenders prison where he did not divulge that he was a male and he was treated as a female. The matter came to light when he was to be detained at Shurugwi Female Prison that he was not a female. One could not figure out that Mpofu is a male he had a nice hairstyle, breasts and he was wearing a skirt just like a lady. Mpofu was arrested after he stole from a man who had hired him as a prostitute, Mpofu stole money and fled before he fulfilled the duties he was hired for

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL DATE: MONDAY 18TH OCTOBER 2021. THEME: GLORY BELONGS TO GOD. MEMORISE: I am the LORD, your Holy One, the creator of Israel, your King. Isaiah 43:15 READ: Daniel 4:30-37 30 The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty? 31 While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. 32 And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. 33 The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws. 34 And at the end of the days I Nebuchadnezzar lifted up mine eyes unto heaven, and mine understanding returned unto me, and I blessed the most High, and I praised and honoured him that liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and his kingdom is from generation to generation: 35 And all the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and he doeth according to his will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay his hand, or say unto him, What doest thou? 36 At the same time my reason returned unto me; and for the glory of my kingdom, mine honour and brightness returned unto me; and my counsellors and my lords sought unto me; and I was established in my kingdom, and excellent majesty was added unto me. 37 Now I Nebuchadnezzar praise and extol and honour the King of heaven, all whose works are truth, and his ways judgment: and those that walk in pride he is able to abase. MESSAGE: Seven years after Nebuchadnezzar was deposed from his throne and disgraced to the point of eating grass like an ox, he realized that the Most High God rules in the kingdom of men. Nebuchadnezzar had erroneously thought that he became great by the “might of his power” (Daniel 4:30), but later realized that it was God who made him great. Many people commit this same error today by proclaiming that their success came by “dint of hard work”. Beloved, what is it that a man has that he did not receive (1 Corinthians 4:7)? Any achievement that will not lead us back to the original Achiever- the Almighty God, is deadly. The Bible warns against being boastful without giving glory to God, in James 4:13-15: “Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.” It is the Almighty God who has the power to will and to do because He is Sovereign. It is an abominable thing in the sight of the Sovereign God for anyone to boast of not only what he has achieved as though it were by his ability, but even what he could do in the future. James 4:16 says “But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.” We should never ascribe to ourselves the glory due to God as King Herod did. All he had to do was redirect the glory of God but he failed to do so and this cost him his life, as we see in Acts 12:21-23: “And upon a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat upon his throne, and made an oration unto them. And the people gave a shout, saying, It is the voice of a god, and not of a man. And immediately the angel of the Lord smote him, because he gave not God the glory: and he was eaten of worms, and gave up the ghost.” Glory belongs to God. Make it a habit to return all glory to God always and He will keep promoting you, in the mighy name of Jesus. ACTION POINT: Are there times you have ascribed God’s glory to yourself? Repent now and return all glory to Him. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 6-10. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE HYMN 1: ALL HAIL THE POWER OF JESUS NAME. 1. All hail the pow’r of Jesus’ Name! Let angels prostrate fall; Bring forth the royal diadem, And crown Him Lord of all! 2. Ye chosen seed of Israel’s race, Ye ransomed from the fall, Hail Him Who saves you by His grace, And crown Him Lord of all! 3. Let every kindred, every tribe, On this terrestrial ball, To Him all majesty ascribe, And crown Him Lord of all! 4. Oh, that with yonder sacred throng We at His feet may fall! We’ll join the everlasting song, And crown Him Lord of all! |

And he said, Jacob. 28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. 29 And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. 30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. 31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh. 32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank. MESSAGE: One thing every child of God must always remember is that our Father is the ‘Unchangeable Changer’. In Genesis we read how God changed a chaotic situation to peaceful and orderly universe. The Unchangeable Changer effected the changes without Himself being changed. “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” Genesis 1:2-3 The Almighty God- the Unchangeable Changer, changed the unfruitful situation of Sarah to fruitfulness (Genesis 21). He did the same thing for Hannah (1 Samuel 2) and turned Jacob’s life around for good by changing his name to Israel, as recorded in our Bible reading of today. This clearly proves that what God did in the life of the father of faith (Abraham) He could do in the life of his descendants also. This is why I know that you will encounter this Great Changer who does not change. As He did for those who sought and called Him in the past, so will He do for you today, in the mighty name of Jesus. Sometime ago, a certain young man who was afflicted with the spirit of madness asked his relatives to bring him to the Redemption Camp, he was delivered completely, even before anybody could pray for him. I also recall the case of a highly educated who was unable to get a job in spite of his qualifications. He surrendered his life to Jesus and er prayed a simple prayer for him. Before he got home that day, three employment offers were waiting for him. The Unchangeable Changer changed his hopeless situation and he began to sing a new song. I have good news for you: Jesus Christ never changes; if He did it before, He can certainly do it again. As the Lord was performing miracles during His earthly ministry, so is He still doing today. Beloved, put your trust in Him and He will not let you down because He is the Unchangeable Changer. If you would only call on Him now, He would change your situation for the better in the mighty name of Jesus. PRAYER POINT: Father, please change my situation for the better from today, in the mighty name of Jesus. BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: 1 Chronicles 1-5. AUTHOR: PASTOR E. A. ADEBOYE HYMN 16: O GOD OUR HELP IN AGES PAST. 1. O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Our shelter from the stormy blast, And our eternal home. 2. Under the shadow of Thy throne Thy saints have dwelt secure; Sufficient is Thine arm alone, And our defense is sure. 3. Before the hills in order stood, Or earth received her frame, From everlasting Thou art God, To endless years the same. 4. Thy Word commands our flesh to dust, “Return, ye sons of men”: All nations rose from earth at first, And turn to earth again. 5. A thousand ages in Thy sight Are like an evening gone; Short as the watch that ends the night Before the rising sun. 6. The busy tribes of flesh and blood, With all their lives and cares, Are carried downwards by the flood, And lost in foll’wing years. 7. Time, like an ever-rolling stream, Bears all its sons away; They fly, forgotten, as a dream Dies at the op’ning day. 8. Like flow’ry fields the nations stand Pleased with the morning light; The flow’rs beneath the mower’s hand Lie with’ring ere ’tis night. 9. O God, our help in ages past, Our hope for years to come, Be Thou our guard while troubles last, And our eternal home. |

According to her, she is being threatened over her relationship with some of her male colleagues. She wrote, “I’m not a messy person at all, especially in real life, I like my space and I like to avoid confrontation but this is me putting it out there that I’ve been getting death threats from “no caller ids” regarding my “relationship status”. I’ve stated time and time again, that I am single and frankly I promise I will not be chasing anything that will take away my peace. Please stop calling me to threaten me because of my affiliation with your “fave”. I am single. Thank you. I will also like to state that you can not dictate who I choose to be friends with, I have no intention of stealing your fave from whoever. Please leave me out of whatever enmity is trying to be formed. I am only focused on my brand. I’m too content within myself to be out here dragging anyone’s “man”. All I’ve ever needed is myself and I can do very well by myself. Thank you.”

I’ll run for president if God and Nigerians say I should – Pastor Tunde Bakare The founder of Citadel Global Community Church (formerly known as Latter Rain Assembly), Pastor Tunde Bakare, has revealed that he could run for the 2023 presidential elections. He made this known today, after a private meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. Recall that in 2011, he was the running mate of Buhari on the platform of the Congress for Progressive Change. Bakare told the State House Correspondents that his visit was to “dispense what was in my heart” to the President. Asked whether he would contest the 2023 presidential election, he said he would, only if ‘God’ and ‘Nigerians’ want him to. Bakare said; “Every Nigerian, who is of age and who is not disqualified by any means, is free. I’m a nation builder, if God wants me to do that, and the people of Nigeria will appreciate that, why not? I’m as free as anybody to do anything with my time. I’ve pastored a church for 33 years, now we raise new leaders. I want to focus on nation-building. “The Office of the President is only one office, there are so many other things we can do as people to support whoever is there to make sure that we do not go into retrogression, but begin to make steady progress as a people. I’ve already communicated clearly, my future plans to Mr. President, and it stays between us.” On power rotation, Bakare stated, “I had said it on October 3. It’s our immaturity, politically and otherwise, that makes us say power must either be in the North or be in the South, instead of looking for the best, the fittest, the most competent, and people of character, who love this nation. “Listen to me, if where the president comes from will make the place he has come from to be better, the northern part of Nigeria should be the richest and should be the most progressive and the most developed because out of 61 years, the north has produced either the president or heads of state for 40 to 41 years, and yet see the retrogression in the North. “If it’s from the South, why should a person like President Obasanjo freeze and seize the account of Lagos State in his own tenure? If it’s from South-South or South-East why couldn’t President Jonathan use all his powers to develop South-South/South-East? “Not where they come from, it’s what they carry and what they have to offer. May the best of the best of Nigerians rise, whether they’re from the east, from the west, from the north, and from the south. “If there are agreements between politicians among themselves on rotation, a bargain is a bargain. That’s between them. But as far as this country is concerned, what we need at this stage is a man who can drive us to the Eldorado.” Credit: Rosbena |
