A fool would not be able to defeat the fake news media and the libtards arrayed against him in the last election Ok, obviously you are late to the party. Grab a chair and watch what's about to go down. The lying SOB, delusional Trump will be removed from the WH in a straight jacket after loosing the election. |

Cantonese: Whichever way you look at it, the man is simply being honest. Whether he has it or not he wants his people to not just sit down and wait for the virus to catch up with them without putting up a fight. Right in his presence over 90,000 of his people have died in less than 3 months. They say "prevention is better than cure". If this is his effort at prevention let his faith work for him. He has been in the frontline all these while and remember that vaccines will take a while to get ready
Look at our own here. It took ages to convince him to address us. Even at that our coordination is very poor. Pls pls pls, never again use the word "honest" again to describe Trump. That should be a sin. The man is incapable of being honest for a sec. |

stagger: Well, there is rumoured information (which I cannot confirm...it may be false) floating that these people were charged N700,000 for the flight and an extra 297,000 for accommodation and feeding. A scandal was brewing and that is probably why they have hurriedly cooked up this new arrangement. Well what really happened is this. The first set of people came back from UK (I have a family member on the flight). The govt charged them 425 pounds. They then put them up in nice hotel in Abuja. After doing the same for another set of people I think from the US, they quickly realized that the govt can't afford to keep doing this for all the expected 4000 people they were expecting. That's when the proposed to charge them for hotel and feeding. Then people started to complain hence the new step. Bad policy idea from scratch. Should have tested them and let them go to self isolate if negative. Then you keep the positive ones in isolation centers. |

GavelSlam: It's not everything you must complain about.
There are issues you see and you just move along.
Just because the idea isn't one you might have taken doesn't make it wrong.
Majority of the so-called returnees repatriate billions of dollars annually into the Nigerian economy.
1 billion Naira in a thousand years is not too much to spend on them. Well, I'm the one that's usually supporting the govt but on this one, they are wrong. Complete waste of money and resources. |
Politics › Re: CBN, NNPC To Fund Returnees’ Accommodation, Feeding – FG by Osidazz19: 9:17pm On May 18, 2020 |
martineverest: so u want the virus to spread to innocent people at home?...what Nigerian government is doing is far better than what American government is doing..if they don't camp those returnees for 2 weeks ,the virus cases will explode in nigeria Not really, you will test them upon arrival and if negative then you let them go. You also tell them that they MUST self ISOLATE for 14 days. If they develop symptoms then they should call the NCDC number just like other Nigerians are doing. These housing and feeding for 14 days in not going to work and too expensive. |
Politics › Re: CBN, NNPC To Fund Returnees’ Accommodation, Feeding – FG by Osidazz19: 9:11pm On May 18, 2020 |
GavelSlam: In Australia, you are quarantined for 14 days on arrival, and the cost is borne by the government. In Australia? Ok. How much is Australia charging to fly them back home? Most countries are not doing that. The US, UK and most that I know are not doing that. Nigeria sure can't afford to do it. And Nigeria is charging way less than all the other countries for the flights back home. Instead of spending the little resources on those at home, they are flying people in from UK for 425 pounds then house and feed them for 14 days. Simply crazy and stupid. I know people in Abuja right now in nice hotel paid for by the govt, and these are people who can afford the hotel without govt paying for them. Misplaced priorities. |

martineverest: mehn....your comment reeks of naivety....it takes corona 2 weeks to surface, they must be camped in isolation centres for 2 weeks b4 freeing them Health Alert: U.S. Mission Nigeria (06 May 2020)
Location: Abuja, Nigeria
Event: Considerations for Evacuation Travel
If there is a confirmed space for you on the flight, the Embassy will contact you directly and will provide further information and other flight details via email.
These evacuation flights are one-way flights at the traveler’s expense. No money is required up front. Travelers will be required to sign a promissory note to reimburse the U.S. Government for the full cost of the flight. The anticipated cost of each flight is $1,800/child (under 12) and $2,400/adult.
Travelers will be responsible for arranging and funding their own travel from the Washington, D.C. area to their final destination, and for any return flight to Nigeria. The U.S. Department of State is unable to assist with identifying resources or providing funding for housing, food, or transportation in Nigeria or within the United States.
Email from the embassy to those waiting for evacuation. Once you land in DC, you are on your own. |

So what about all the other countries that are flying people back to their countries from all over the world? My friend went back to the US, I was supposed to go back but I changed my mind at the last minute. Once you land in DC, it's bye bye. No isolation and no hotel. You land and you are fine, then get out of here. I don't know of any country forcing everyone to stay in hotels. May be in China and you are paying for it. Bad idea. |

What do you people want? Everything complain complain complain. Kaiii it is hard being a Nigerian sha, too much stupidity They should have never proposed to housed them once they get back here. Fly them in, test them and if negative - bye go home. If positive then isolate them int the isolation centers. End of story. This is a complete waste of scare resources. |

Terrible
This is total nonesense.
Why in hell is the govt paying for hotels for all these people? Fly them in and let them go home and self isolate.
The Nigerian govt is already way less than all other govts in flying their people back home. The US govt will charge 1800 dollars for kids and 2400 dollars for Adults just to fly to DC and that's it, you are on you own once you land in DC. Find your way home even if you live in Cali. The UK govt charged 550 pounds for a one way back to the UK and must be paid up front. The Nigerian govt charged only 425 pounds fro flight from London to Lagos then fly them to Abuja for quarantine for 14 days in hotel paid for by the govt. Then plan to fly most back to Lagos after the 14 days. Complete waste of money that the govt doesn't have. Worst part is these people are not even going to appreciate all the govt gestures. Fly them in and let them go home and self isolate, the govt can't afford to paying for hotel and feeding for 4000 people for 14 days. That's CRAZY. |

proffemi: Bill Gates.
Most people shouting his name now are ignoramuses who are just learning about him. Those of us who followed his career as he went from fiercely competitive and subtly ruthless nerd to astute, cut-throat businessman know better. We know his dark side very well because we watched in real time as he viciously took down competitors. But we also saw him mature and mellow with age. We saw him throw himself into philanthropy with gusto not seen since perhaps Andrew Carnegie. We saw him single-handedly cause the most momentous sea change in philanthropy in a century when he got other billionaires to commit to spending large chunks of their money on philanthropy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Giving_Pledge). He even got the ever thrifty Oracle of Ohama on board! We've seen him throwing himself at the forgotten tropical diseases of Africa and other problems of the developing world. We half-sneered, half-applauded his crazy gimmicky attempts at reinventing the humble toilet bowl so that the third world can move its bowels in a more hygienic manner. For years, we saw him play the Jeremiah, warning us of the inevitable next pandemic. Now the pandemic is here, we see him become the face of the resistance BECAUSE (to those of you ignoramuses) THIS MAN IS NOW THE FACE OF TWENTY FIRST CENTURY PHILANTHROPY.
This is the man you think is deserving of so much suspicion and vitriol ! ?!! May God forgive you. Sorry bro, but I think you are sending this to the wrong person. I'm a defender of Bill Gates not one of the Covidiots that are just looking for any conspiracy to latch on to. All the stories you are telling me here, I already know. I was using personal computer in the late 80s and early 90s thanks to Bill Gates/IBM/Steve Jobs. I respect the man for his vision and foresight not despise him. |

simplesearch: I think people are curious because this is neither malaria nor polio. Rather a worldwide epidemic that has claimed countless number of lives and resulted in a state of emergency, Americans themselves worse hit with almost incomparable number of death to that of the whole of African combine. Therefore leaving his own people and watch them die in droves and still doing so till now, while palpating relentlessly on others with lesser cases raises an eye brow. And i think this behaviour is what gave Africans the audacity to question the rationale behind his supposed gesture, and the subsequent reactions that follows. Since no one expects him to Love Africans more than the Americans, they were of the opinion that charity should first begin at home. In otherword, If his drug can't heal his people it definitely can't heal us. Ok, but when Bill Gates committed 1BILLION dollars to eradicate Malaria in Africa, they didn't suspect him then abi? The man has been spending money and time on Africa for while before the outbreak of Coronavirus. He has also been talking about such pandemic even before this outbreak. The man has foresight, just like he did with personal computers when others thought it was a dumb idea. I don't have much to say but I'm sure Gates and others will be more careful in offering help in the future. Then people will call them names for not trying to help. |

I'm surprised that they are even dignifying these idiots by responding to their wild claims. Nigeria is the wild wild west of social media and fake news. We are good at one thing- take an unsubstantiated rumors/propaganda and run with it. Well done Nigerians. Hope Bill Gates will tell Nigerians and Africans to FVCK off next time they look to him for assistance with malaria or anything in the future. You try to help them and this is what you get back in return. No wonder most Africans are just selfish, guess they figured out that it's not really worth sticking your neck out for these people. |

Doyin2: We the silent majority know.
Let the very noisy minority continue to wail all over social media.
Palliatives come in different forms across the world.
USA is giving raw cash running into trillions of nairadollars ,wailers are hailing.
Just to reach households via the school feeding programme, misguided elements are wailing.
What Nigeria is doing is far more productive than doling out cash.
More Farmers and food vendors would be productively engaged.
Even transporters of food items .
How about manufacturers of packaging materials?
The list is endless,a direct effect on GDP. This adds more to the economy than just giving people cash. In fact some are advocating similar approach in the US cos some are collecting money and not spending it. The objective of giving out money is to stimulate the economy buy people buy goods and services with the money. This is a direct approach to stimulating the economy. Hey, what do you really expect from the wailing wailers? Good or bad, they gon wail anyway. |
