Even since the unit was first formed and the CnC said something like "its deployment could lead to terror attacks back home" i have suspected that Cameroon/Nigeria or Somalia would be its first port of call as he would not have said anything like that if they werent specifically thinking about combating Islamists

Its a pretty potent formation:

Army
- a motorised infantry battalion (9 SA Infantry Battalion equipped with Casspir armoured personnel carriers)
- a composite mechanised car squadron (Ratel-20 infantry combat vehicles from 1 SA Infantry Battalion, Rooikat armoured cars and possibly Ratel-ZT3 tank destroyers from 1 Special Services Battalion)
- a light artillery battery (1 Light Artillery Regiment with 120 mm mortars)
- a light anti-aircraft battery (10 Anti-Aircraft Regiment with Starstreak missiles)
- a troop from 2 Field Engineer Regiment; a troop from 1 Tactical Intelligence Regiment; and a composite signals squadron with elements of 1, 2 and 5 Signals Regiments, including communications intelligence teams.
(Most of the force elements will be equipped with Casspirs.)

SAAF

SAN
- Maritime Reaction Force, including riverine or inshore craft and Marines, depending on the requirements.

"Services"
- The SA Military Health Service will provide a medical task group and a level-two hospital

Its a pretty potent force and it would obviously be tailored for conditions its deployed to (wont need air-defence and it WILL need long range arty such G5's) while the MRS could be usefull in hunting down BH camps in lake Chad. While more Helo's will be necessary due to the distances involved.

And, as Government has said, all Nigeria/Cameroon/AU has to do is ask (next AU general assembly is in 2 weeks)

idris deby of chad is a joker. They asked him to commit troops to a multinational standby force he withdrew the troops and left a vulnerable FOB to fall in the hands of BH. Since he doesn't want a nigerian commander to boss his boys in the MTF then let him go and crew up with weak Cameroon. After all they are the same francophone countries. I know this francophone countries are busy preparing the stage for a French controlled lake chad basin.
