The SAAF has the least trained and experienced pilots in Africa's Big 5.
No SAAF Gripens flew to the CAR, if they actually did, the Nigerian Airforce won't have to do this,

A foreign policy that is not entirely detached from the nations domestic policies,a foreign policy that represents the needs and aspirations of the people, a foreign policy that responds to threats to a nigerian anywhere in the world. I know there is something in your mind right now. And that fact have remained the fear of many Mil analysts on here. " why are this guys still around?" Yea you know the new MBTs may just be tied to defencive roles. No major offensive and no forseeable end to this conflict. Our only hope is in diplomacy and even in that area ve failed. We ve been unable to get any credible representative of this group to the table and we ourselves have at many times in the course of prosecuting this war against terror crossed the fine line between legality and illegality, we ve provoked our enemy by our endless vexatious actions and have taught them to be more brutal. We ve failed in the war against terror, our approach have never being decisive and destructive. We never wanted bokoharam to leave the NE, we ve always wanted a conflict we could manage something that would remain to help in tilting a political balance in favour of one side. I am really disdapointed in our efforts. Cus I know wat we ve done, what we can do and what we re not doing. |

There has always been a deliberate attempt by the military to prolong the war and people's suffering with the complicity of Jonathan. These tanks and 4.5gen combat jets should have been acquired three years ago. Ordinary Kenya has hundreds of these now. why are you alive? |

seanet02: While i agree with you that Nigeria is ahead of Ghana in satellite technology, i think you are very wrong to place the satellite technological know how of Nigeria side by side with the Iranians. Iranian satellite technological know how have no match in the third world. While Nigeria still depends on China and Russia for collaboration in the development of its satellites and its launching, the Iranians are producing their own wholly made satellites with ease and also launching it on their own pads a feat Nigeria is no where near. nigerian satellite technology is @ par with the satellite tech of IRan. And i have my best reasons for saying that. First of all Nigeria is one of the only D8 nations whose satellite is in the Global warning constellation. Are efforts in Global disaster management through the use of her satellite assets surpasses that of IRAn whose main focus is on having a potent military satellite. So my friend Iranian satellites cannot match that of Nigeria in the area of usefulness. And mind you my man NIgComsat was built by nigerian scientist with the aid of her British counterparts. While in 2018 a totally indigenous satellite will be launched by Nigeria. So my friend satellite technology in IRAN and here in Nigeria are almost at the same levels. The only thing is that we do not have a dedicated science and technology channel (tv) where discoveries and inventions made by nigerian scientists will be aired. |

Lol. Ghana to launch nigerian made Gotv satellite. For the monitoring of the movement of their mumu citizens. Wale112 your country is gradually moving towards technological drogontness( whatever that means). Nigeria is the satellite technology hub of Africa. With four satellites in orbit and a made in Nigeria military optimized satellite to be launched in 2018. Nigeria leads Africa in the use of satellite technology. Nigeria is among the few country that have one of its satellite in the global disaster monitoring constellation. A nigerian satellite was the first satellite globally to obtain a picture of the aftermath of hurricane kathrina. Nigerian scientists are grounded fully grounded on the knowledge of satellite technology and have utilise it fully in placing Nigeria ahead of its African counterparts in the space race and among the few space competitive countries globally. The nigerian satellite technology can only be ranked with the likes of India, Brazil, and Iran. It is notable that while India launched it unmanned mission to mars. Find attached a pic of recently acquired T72 tanks by GEJ administration to tackle BH. The soldiers moral are so high now because these T72 tanks purchased from Ukraine are Anti-IED, Anti Missile and are indestructible unless shot by another tank.
They were purchased as part of the utilization of the 1Billion dollar loan and 77 were bought and are being distributed in the trouble area. Now boko haram are fleeing and they are now setting IED's everywhere but apparently they cant destroy the Tank. Last week, BH loaded a Toyota Starlet and while passing like passengers, they ran into one of the tanks and made a huge hole on the ground and killed 5 soldiers but the soldiers inside the tank were not even scratched.
It is their massive IED attack where they plant IED and run away and while combing the area Major Umar was killed. A gallant Officer. But with these Undestructable tank, One soldier can confidently drive into BH Territory and cause havoc without a scratch.
I can confidently tell you that 6 BH Tanks have been destroyed by our troops in Yola. BH days are over, attach is a pix of 14 tanks deployed to Adamawa. I decided to share this pix after watching the massacre on the Bridge you posted yesterday
These tanks are all computerized and they use GPS to locate and shoot, that means if you feed it a beacon location on land it will destroy it, it is that accuraate. The triggers are also computerized buttons.

ActivateKruger: First its the SANDF not SADF. Second, do you have an idea how hot the Northern Cape is where our soldiers are born? jl115: Ever heard of the Kalahari? And we fought in the Sahara in ww2. the Kalahari is like a picnic park compared to what can be found in the N`eastern Nigeria especially the sahelian region. Here is what wikipedia have to say about your "desert" .. Even where the Kalahari "desert" is dry enough to qualify as a desert in the sense of having low precipitation, it is not strictly speaking a desert because it has too dense a ground cover, often close to 100%. The main region that lacks ground cover is in the southwest Kalahari (southeast of Namibia and northwest of South Africa around the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park). In an area of about 600,000 km² in the south and west of the Kalahari, the vegetation is mainly xeric savanna. This area is the ecoregion identified by World Wide Fund for Nature as Kalahari xeric savanna AT1309. Typical savanna grasses include (Schmidtias, Stipagrostis, Aristida, and Eragrostis) interspersed with trees such as camelthorn (Acacia erioloba), grey camelthorn (Acacia haematoxylon), shepherd’s tree (Boscia albitrunca), blackthorn (Acacia mellifera), and silver cluster-leaf (Terminalia sericea). In certain areas where the climate is drier, it becomes a true semi-desert with ground not entirely covered by vegetation, an "open" vegetation as opposed to "closed" vegetation. Examples include the north of the Siyanda District, itself in the north of South Africa, and the Keetmanshoop Rural in the south-east of Namibia. In the north and east, there are dry forests covering an area of over 300,000 km² in which Rhodesian teak and several species of Acacia are prominent. These regions are termed Kalahari Acacia-Baikiaea woodlands AT0709.[4] Outside the Kalahari "desert", but still in the Kalahari basin, a halophytic vegetation to the north is adapted to pans, lakes that are completely dry during the dry season, and maybe for years during droughts, such as in Etosha (Etosha Pan halophytics AT0902) and Makgadikgadi (Zambezian halophytics AT0908).[4] A totally different vegetation is adapted to the perennial fresh water of the Okavango Delta, an ecoregion termed (Zambezian flooded grasslands AT0907).North and east, approximately where the dry forests, savannahs and salt lakes prevail, the climate is sub-humid rather than semi-arid. South and west, where the vegetation is predominantly xeric savanna or even a semi-desert, the climate is "Kalaharian" semi-arid. The Kalaharian climate is subtropical (average annual temperature greater than or equal to 18 °C, with mean monthly temperature of the coldest month strictly below 18 °C), and is semi-arid with the dry season during the "cold" season, the coldest six months of the year. It is the southern tropical equivalent of the Sahelian climate. The altitude has been adduced as the explanation why the Kalaharian climate is not tropical; its altitude ranges from 600 to 1600 meters (and generally from 800 to 1200 meters), resulting in a cooler climate than that of the Sahel or Sahara. For example, winter frost is common from June to August, something rarely seen in the warmer Sahelian regions.[5] For the same reason, summer temperatures certainly can be very hot, but not in comparison to regions of low altitude in the Sahel or Sahara, where some stations record average temperatures of the warmest month around 38°C, whereas the average temperature of the warmest month in any region in the Kalahari never exceeds 29°C, though daily temperatures occasionally reach up to close to 45 °C I wish our troops had such a beautifuly cool place to fight. Maybe they could even snap some pictures while they are at it. Your Kalahari will be a nice vacation place for our " desert fox" http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalahari_Desert And that is where you do your desert warfare simulation. |

Henry240: SAAF should consider selling Gripens and buying transports Written by Guy Martin, Wednesday, 29 October 2014
The South African Air Force (SAAF) has 26 Gripens in its inventory but 12 are in “rotational” storage and only 18 Gripen navigators and pilots have been trained to operational status. Which begs the question: what should we do with aircraft we don’t need and can’t afford to operate?
The solution could be a simple one: sell off the 12 Gripens in storage (since we won’t miss them anyway) and use the money for fuel, pilot training and new equipment that the Air Force desperately needs - its C-130 Hercules fleet is ageing and the Air Force is increasingly forced to rely on charters to move people and equipment to places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, while the SAAF’s maritime surveillance C-47TPs are more than half a century old and suffering from attrition.
While the C-47TPs and C-130s are working extremely hard and are in urgent need of replacement, the Gripens are grossly underutilised. Since 2008 the Gripen fleet has flown 3 500 hours, according to a SAAF official, equating to roughly 135 hours per airframe or roughly 20 hours per aircraft per year, or less than two hours per aircraft per month.
Maintenance for the Gripens has also been problematic - between April and December 2013 the SAAF had no support contracts in place with Saab, with the Air Force only doing basic hands-on maintenance. A support contract worth R285 million (€19 million) was finally awarded in December and is seeing Saab support the Gripen fleet to 2016.
Of the transport fleet, only around three C-130s are airworthy at any given time and only three C-47TPs are available for transport duties. The small fleet of C212s is only useful for carrying small loads short distances. As a result, the South African Air Force often has to rely on chartered aircraft like Il-76s to get its equipment to places like the Central African Republic (CAR) and Democratic Republic of Congo, which can be a very expensive and time-consuming affair – troops have often been stranded while waiting for a chartered flight and a lack of airlift capacity meant the military couldn’t immediately transport armoured vehicles to our soldiers fighting Seleka rebels in the CAR in March 2013.
With the cancellation of the order for eight A400Ms in 2009, the SAAF was left without a clear replacement for the C-130BZ fleet and, since the deposit was paid back to the treasury, left without money for acquiring new transports. Since funding is tight yet the need is urgent, perhapsit is time to advertise some practically new Gripens for sale: low mileage, stored in a nice dry climate and only flown on weekends.
