It was just about noon that Helen came back from work, tired, knowing she’ll have to go out in a couple of hours later, she settled down on the couch before remembering to say customary hello to her husband who lay quietly, with eyes closed in the room. Returning to the living room after an unsuccessful attempt to start a conversation, she put on the Television, on the news, people were lamenting the recent spike in crime, especially the incident which a woman was found in the trash, with some parts of her body missing. She was not that interested in the news, so she allowed herself to doze off.

At about 5 in the evening, she woke up feeling tired. Trying to think about the scary dream she’s been having, but since it had been like that for two weeks, she dismissed the notion that it could be something more than a dream. Afterall she doesn’t believe in premonitions.
For two weeks now, she had told her husband she would be working overtime, using the excuse to visit her boyfriend. Ken had raised an eyebrow at first but reluctantly agreed after she argued the money would come in handy, solving some financial problems they’ve been facing.
She initially had chosen to remain faithful to Ken, but he’s not the guy he used to be after he lost his job four months ago, he has developed various attitudes to issues which would have been trivial some months prior, he seemed to not care about the happiness of his wife. Pondering the reason why she's doing what she’s doing, she reluctantly stripped and took her a bath, and dressed up ready to go out, “I am going to work” she announced, and just, as usual, the only response she got was “ok”, trying not to let the response dampen her mood further she carried her bag, closed the door behind her, into her car, and drove straight off to Dave’s house.

Dave a doctor though not in the same hospital that Helen works, is a sweet guy she had met in the mall six months ago when things were still bubbly with Ken, so they started as friends but things have progressed in the past few weeks, after spending the night together various times. First at a hotel, then later at Dave’s house.

Unlike with Ken, she felt more alive in the past few weeks he had been spending with Dave, she trusts him, and she’s relaxed when she’s with him. Driving at a relatively slow speed trying to figure out if she’s been followed or not due to the frantic phone call Dave had made into the house a few days earlier, which Ken answered, but he identified himself as a co-worker, she had to answer all sort of questions that led her to believe he might be suspecting her. After making a few turns here and there, checking the mirror again she was satisfied that he wasn’t following her.
Dave was not at home when she got there, but that’s not a problem, she knew exactly where the key was kept and she retrieved it, entered the house, put down her bag, and sat down on the Sofa, relaxed and already feeling better than she was at home a few minutes ago. She reached for the Television remote control, switched it on, and there it was on the news again, the report she had been listening to earlier at home about the rampant issues of married women between the age of 25-35 years old that has gone missing, only to be found a few days later dead, due to result of multiple tortures, some were mutilated and disfigured. Who would do such a thing? She wondered for a while, then switched off the Television, having decided she won't let the news the ruined her night with Dave, speaking of Dave, where is he? She wondered, then decided if he doesn’t show up in the next fifteen minutes or so, she’ll call him.

Where are you? She asked enquiringly, after having waited over thirty minutes, “I will be there in a few minutes time” he replied on the phone, “help yourself to some refreshment, there is a fine bottle of wine in the fridge” he said. Helen entered the kitchen, open the fridge, looking for a suitable cup and the wine opener, she discovered what looks like bloodstains on the floor near a small door she had regarded as curious the first time she saw it but hadn’t check what was on the other side of the door. She found the wine opener opened the wine, she decided it will be better to eat some cake along with the wine but she couldn’t find a knife, that is strange she thought to herself, why is everything so out of place? She wondered, maybe Dave was killing a chicken and the bloodstains are that of the chicken, so she decided to open the door and have a look, not knowing that what she’ll discover at the other side of the door will change her life forever
