Most schools collect a minimum of masters for lecturing as assistant lecturers. For scholarships, I don't know of any yet, but will do well to surf for you. Thanks

Let me not spoil d mood of every1.Unilorin is a good school so also is UI.But do not let people deceive u with fast calendar and all that.Do u know how many Unilorin studs are running Msc programme with me at UI?MSc is different from undergraduate.In d latter,u graduate together,in the former u don't.
The strike will affect but postgraduate is departments dependent,irrespective of strike.Some are naturally quicker,some aren't.For those who are yet 2 apply,ask serious questions,think,before u pick that form.Congrats and success to all those who are Unilorin prospective studs.

A PhD degree can be best completed within 2-4 years, depending on your consistency and attitude to research.
4-8 semesters.
Which equals 2-4 years
Your supervisors play a Paramount role in determining if you will finish on time.
But let's say you are determined to go straight after bsc and masters for PhD, then the bulk of the work will be in your hand.
You can make it 5 or even 10 years, depending on your attitude to research.
But let's say you r fast and your supervisor is very serious, you can complete your PhD in 3 years here in Nigeria. And even before age 30.
Just be focused and make sure you get at least 65% and above in your masters or even a distinction so you can proceed for a PhD, if you score any lesser than that, you won't be able to proceed for PhD directly

Apart from exams which is 60%,
What are the other aspects that covers the remaining grading marks?
I.e
Exam 60%
Class of degree 10%
Does experience and certification cover the remaining 30%
If so,
Do all the courses require experience and certification?
Also, does oral interview take any part of the grading scale?

But I made enquiries from ABU and was told u can apply for masters as long as you submit your discharge certificate before you graduate.... and they say its still functional....

It is possible to get a lecturing job with a 2.2 as a GA without even an MSc. It may be difficult in some schools though (due to partial autonomy the universities enjoy and, perhaps, departmental staff strength).

Any class of degree with an MSc (without a University teaching experience) is qualified for an AL. Fresh PhDs without any teaching experience are qualified for L2 and PhDs with teaching experience in polytechnics and colleges are employed as L1.

Rules vary from school to school but this is the NUC approved standard.

Let me guide you.

Lecturing begins with Lecturer2. A number of Universities have the policy of offering employment to their first class graduate (some are stricter and will only employ the best graduating first class student). Some people will be employed as Graduate Assistant even if they dont have a first class, provided they have a 2.1 degree. Now these Graduate Assistants are given four years to obtain their masters degree (or they may be shown out of the system). Such staff are never regularized without a masters degree. Once they obtain the degree, they are promoted to Assistant Lecturer. Thats how it works.

If you dont have a 2.1, you need a masters degree and a PhD (not evidence of enrollment in a PhD program) to be appointed. With that, you will be appointed Lecturer2 (skipping the Graduate Assistant and Assistant Lecturer stages). Why listen to me? What do I know anyway? How about we ask Prof Julius Okojie. He ought to know something about it.



Take note, it is the PhD that will cure the defect of the BSc. Some time ago it used to be that a 2.2 could be cured by an MSc. Those days are gone. The only time that your registration in a PhD program will be relevant is where you have a 2.1 in the first place.

Thank you very much. I made enquires from someone very current, a "Professor" and found out that you can be taken with evidence of PhD registration after your MSc and if your Bsc grade was second class lower. Although what you explained here is very correct and accurate, as it will give you a better edge. But it happens that people are still taken without completion of PhD as a criteria.........
