The first operation targeted the British oil tanker Cordelia Moon in the Red Sea. The vessel was reportedly hit by a combination of eight ballistic and cruise missiles, a drone and a manned boat. The attack left the vessel heavily damaged.

The second operation targeted the Marathopolis in the Indian Ocean, which was hit by a cruise missile. A subsequent operation targeted the same vessel again as it sailed through the Arabian Sea northeast of the Socotra archipelago. This third strike involved a drone, which reportedly scored a direct hit.

Yemen's military has explained the military action as part of a broader effort to support the Palestinian and Lebanese people.

Multiple IRGC-affiliated Iranian outlets & Telegram channels report, "Iran has warned the US: if you target our refineries, we will set fire to the refineries and oil fields across the entire region, including those in Saudi Arabia, Azerbaijan, Kuwait, the UAE, and Bahrain."

How can Iran and Israel destroy each other?

In the story of Iran's strike on Israel and a retaliatory strike on Iran (which is inevitably promised right away), there is one important circumstance. Namely, the ability of both sides not only to destroy each other physically but also to plunge each of the participants in the conflict into the Stone Age, killing the economy.

What can be destroyed in Israel?

There are 15 thermal power plants operating in the country. The key ones include the Orot Rabin Thermal Power Plant (2,605 MW), the largest power plant in Israel, the Rutenberg Thermal Power Plant (2,290 MW), the Eshkol Thermal Power Plant (1,693 MW), Hagit CCGT (1,394 MW), Gezer CCGT (1,336 MW), Ramat Hovav CCGT (1,137 MW), and the Haifa Thermal Power Plant (1,110 MW). These facilities are located close together: almost all of them are within a radius of 70-80 km from each other. On October 7, 2023, Hamas already attacked the Rutenberg Thermal Power Plant and even partially damaged it (and Hamas, mind you, is not the most technologically advanced organization without advanced missiles).

What can be destroyed in Iran?

Here, everything is much larger. There are more than ten key thermal power plants in the country alone, including Rudeshur, Qom, Ofoj, Shahad, and Zagros, on whose operations some industrial enterprises depend. There is also a nuclear power plant in Bushehr and a cascade of hydroelectric power plants that generate a significant amount of electricity. The Iranian power grid is partially more stable than the Israeli one and more balanced, but this does not mean that it is invulnerable to a missile attack. The only difference is that Iran can withstand a much larger attack due to both the size of its territories and the architecture of its power grid, while Israel will have a harder time surviving such a strike.

Iran has demonstrated that strikes on Israel are quite possible and, most importantly, there are opportunities to overcome the consolidated air defense of the US and Israel, while without the US, Israel's air defense is weak against spam attacks and the use of hypersonic missiles.

🇮🇷🇮🇱Israeli air defenses are proving to be utterly useless against Iranian missiles — and I suspect most or all of the ballistic strikes have been older generation Iranian missiles. They will save the newer ones for subsequent strikes against US bases if the US gets involved.
