Politics / Re: The Agony Of Nigeria's Unproductive Education by owo2390(m): 3:47pm On Jul 22, 2011
Nigeria does have a great destiny, Nigerians are the smartest and the most hardworking people i know, apart from Indians; they are nuts. But we need an outlet in Nigeria so that we can understand our potential and achieve our dreams. We need to change the educational system in Nigeria, instead of teaching the students to cram and regurgitate, we should teach them to think and innovate. Only then will Nigeria fulfill it's destiny. The secret to the success of most developed countries is freedom, freedom of thought, freedom of speech, freedom to think outside the box. We need that at Nigerian schools. We need it Fast!

Love is like any emotion in the array of emotions that humans possess, it's subjective, it's normal, and happens to everybody.

No one can force anyone to believe in love, but love is not an imbalance of chemicals in the brain, schizophrenia is.

People shouldn't blanket statement such as "love is a delusion" because statement like that are ignorant-they are just empty words.

wow this is still going on.

Let me jump in.

You incessantly speak about research and science hard facts like you did the studies yourself. You don't know how these scientists got their data, their subjects, their hypothesis, etc.

This debate is futile because we can't prove it. No one can.

It will go on forever and ever.

Science is a vehicle for people to explain the uncertain word they live in, so is love, religion, and magic. People need these things in order to better understand their world. You shouldn't call it delusions, because in other people's eye your "science" is a delusion. In addition, most scientific theories only make sense in ideal situations so sometimes they are irrelevant in the real world, since we live in a non-ideal world. For example, the duality of light as a particle (the photoelectric effect) or a wave (light comes in different wavelengths). Light can be a particle or a wave but never both at the same time. Because light is behaving as a wave at an instant, doesn't mean it can't behave as a particle in the next instant. Because love can't be scientifically proven now, doesn't mean it won't be proven later on in the future.

Have fate and open your heart to love.

Let's agree to disagree.

The fact that you call love a delusion is your opinion not a fact or a law. So follow your own advice and stop toting it around like its science.

Its disingenuous!!!

" what science cannot prove, does not exist."

You said that. You weren't specifically talking of love. But love is a disease to some people.
Romance / Re: Why Are Some People Afraid Of Falling In Love? by owo2390(m): 10:11pm On Jul 21, 2011
Hum, there are some things science can't explain. For example, the etiology of Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, (neurodegenerative disease), can not be explained scientifically. But about 100,000 people worldwide have the disease. Go tell them that there disease doesn't exist since science can't explain it.

we definitely need a science section !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

true story,  i want to add something.

Insecurity also kills love. In love you have to take a leap of faith and understand that your significant other loves you very much. And never allow low self-esteem or anything as such creep in, only then would love continue to grow longer, stronger.

I think people who confer science pompously upon others are missing something special in their life. Love exists, it has being scientifically proven. Accept it.

For example, there was a study where a man and a woman were asked to stare into one another eyes for 10 minutes, and a fMRI was taken, the scientist realized that the subject's Dopamine level increased. And the two research subject proclaimed that they felt like they were falling in love. Love is not hard science like chemistry or physics, so you just have to believe. Or not.

I'm a bio major and a psych minor in college so i love this stuff.

In economy its called the tragedy of the commons. A place that used by everyone will always have a tendency to get dirty. Since everyone feels the right to utilize it but no duty of cleaning it up. Most major cities are dirty like that, New York city is filthy, so is Newark, New Jersey. And Lagos, Nigeria.

In science its called entropy. It applies to everything

You might be thinking of Dopamine, it's involved in addiction. And love is a kind of addiction.

I didn't want this to happen: Scientific quantification of love!

The same thing is happening to the universe, because we possess the mental faculties to understand love doesn't mean we should desecrate it. Love is special, supernatural and infectious. When you feel love, genuine love, it transforms you and you transcend everything around you. You are no longer one person but 2 people in one. It's a really special feeling that science has no right of taking away from us. To scientists love might be just a myriad of action potentials going through dopaminergic ion channels, but to ordinary people it's butterflies in your stomach, a song in your heart, and a glint in your eye.

I'm not a big showy romantic but I think we need love in this world. Love can, literally, conquer all and bring peace to many.

We need that now more than ever.

Vasopressin is Anti-diuretic hormone. It has nothing to do with love.
Romance / Re: Why Are Some People Afraid Of Falling In Love? by owo2390(m): 8:36pm On Jul 21, 2011
Love is complex, so it's also difficult to quantify.

Subconsciously you choose to fall in love, but the process is not obvious to lay people. You have to understand the process. Love makes you vulnerable, love makes you weak, the act of deriving your happiness from someone else can be a daunting and debilitating task. So, the fear of falling in love comes from the fear of being weak and vulnerable. But in life most forms from happiness comes from vulnerability- from stepping outside your comfort zone. I think!!

i'm 21. My knowledge of love is kinda scanty, so bear with me.

Yup,

Science section would be great, but since science is so diverse there are going to be a plethora of topics and it might become too confusing.

Politics / Re: Who is Wrestling Corruption in Nigeria? by owo2390(m): 9:30pm On Jul 20, 2011
Not really. But its all semantics. And The average Nigerian puts him/herself forward first because no one else will. If we live a better society where Cops don't ask for N20 at every checkpoint, or the senators don't pay themselves $2 million/year, Nigerians would be less selfish. Just saying!!!!
