THE Nigeria Police, yesterday, dismissed claims by Boko Haram terrorists that they were holding some policewoman in their custody.

The police, through its Borno State command, insisted that contrary to claims by the terrorists group, non of its officers was with the group. The police reaction came 24 hours after leader of Boko Haram Islamist sect, Abubakar Shekau, released a video claiming his organisation was not only responsible for last week’s attack on military convoy along Maiduguri/Damboa highway but also abducted 16 policewoman in the attack.

The text which was signed by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Isuku Victor, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, read in full:” The attention of Borno State Police Command has been drawn to media reports over the attack by Boko Haram terrorists on Military/Police escorted convoy at Abari/Dalwa village Maiduguri/Damboa highway on June 20, 2017, at about 1130hrs.

“According to one of these reports, 16 female passengers in the bus trailing the ambulance carrying late Sgt Rahila’s corpse were Police women and wives of Policemen asked to accompany the burial party. And all of them were taken away by BHT”.

“In another recently released video on You-Tube where Boko Haram claims responsibility for the attack on military convoy, its leader Abubakar Shekau, claims to have women Police personnel and wives of Senior Police officers in the custody of the Boko Haram. “For avoidance of doubts, and to put records straight, there are no Police women under Boko Haram terrorist’s captivity as claimed by the sect leader. The Command wishes to reiterate as contained in an earlier Press Briefing by the Commissioner of Police, CP Damian A. Chukwu, on 20/06/2017 that:

“Police lorry with Reg. No. NPF 2677 D was carted away. Occupants comprise personnel, relations and burial party for late Sgt Rahila Antikirya. Driver of the Police lorry, Sgt Kubura Mwada, was shot and injured on his back. He was able to jump down from the lorry and escaped. “Personnel missing are Inspr Fatsuma Sale and Cpl Abubakar Haruna. There is no evidence in the video clip indicating that they are in the captivity of the sect.

“Other occupants of the lorry are either relations or sympathizers of the deceased, and were all reported missing in the earlier press briefing. They took advantage of the space in the lorry conveying personal effects of the deceased Police woman and joined the burial party. “The Command therefore wishes to advise media organisations and the general public to disregard the claim(s) in the video, as well as social media reports as they are not a true representation of that unfortunate incident.”

Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, popularly known as Evans has filed a suit against the Inspector General of Police, and three others at a Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged illegal detention.
The plaintiffs are the Nigeria Police Force, Commissioner of Police Lagos State, and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, Lagos State Police Command.

The suspected billionaire kidnapper’s lawyer, Mr Olukoya Ogungbeje, is seeking a court’s order directing the plaintiffs to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him.

In the suit marked, FHC/L/CS/1012/2017, Evans prayed the court to compel the plaintiffs to immediately release him unconditionally in the absence of any charge.

He is of the view that his continued detention by the plaintiffs since June 10, without a charge, or release on bail is an infringement on his fundamental rights.

Cristiano Ronaldo is "angry" but Real Madrid president Florentino Perez says he expects him to stay at the Bernabeu.

Ronaldo has been summoned to a hearing next month into accusations of tax fraud - allegations his representatives have denied - and was reported to be so outraged over perceived unfair treatment by the Spanish authorities that he was considering leaving the country.

The 32-year-old, who is under contract until 2021, has been linked with a return to Manchester United but while Perez has spoken openly about the Portugal star's outrage, he has played down talk of a summer exit.
"He has a contract with Real Madrid and, when he stops playing at the Confederations Cup, we will talk," Perez said on esRadio's El Primer Palo.
"He's angry, that's for sure, because he is an honest person who fulfils his obligations.
"I have not talked to him but we are delighted that he is in Madrid. I think he will continue in Madrid."

The French government has said that it has set aside about one billion Euros to be invested in the Nigeria oil and gas industry, stating that Nigeria remains her first economic trading partner in Africa.

The French Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency, Mr. Denys Gauer, declared this when the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division (GPAD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, led a delegation to his office in Abuja.

Mr. Gauer said that the French Development Agency has put in place about one billion Euros to encourage French investors to invest in the Nigeria oil and gas sector, adding that the French government is also cooperating with the Federal Government in the fight against Boko Haram insurgency.

The French Ambassador commended the Federal Government for stemming the Niger Delta insecurity situation noting that Total, a French multinational oil and gas company, had significant investment equity in the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas Limited (NLNG) and Egina project.

He, however, expressed concern that some other French companies were having challenges with the unclear Nigeria’s fiscal policies in the oil and gas sector revealing that some French investors were currently developing wind energy and solar energy in Katsina State.

Earlier, the Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division of NNPC, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, said the corporation under the current management led by the Group Managing Director, Dr. Maikanti Baru, was well positioned and open to investment opportunities from the French government and investors.

Mr. Ughamadu noted that with the significant scale down in pipeline vandalism and insecurity which has boosted oil production, global investors such as the French government can now invest in renewable energy, gas and power infrastructural development, pipeline construction, storage facility and the direct sales and direct purchase of Nigeria crude oil grades.

He said the NNPC, as the state owned oil and gas corporation, had global operations and called for closer collaboration between the French government and the corporation especially in the area of consular services in order to enable NNPC top executives and staff meet their global engagements.

Footage from the clash against Guangzhou R&F on Monday (June 19) shows the midfielder charging for a loose ball in the centre of the pitch.

As he gets there first, he boots the ball directly at an opposition player.

Not content with that, as it drops at his feet he smashes it again at another player. Furious at his behaviour, several of the opposition team run up to him before one shoves him to the ground.

Suddenly players, substitutes and coaches all plough onto the pitch as a mass brawl breaks out. There’s plenty of shoving and pushing as officials arrive to try to separate the teams.

But players continue to grapple with each other as team-mates try to drag them away. Two players were sent off following the fight while the ill-tempered match ended 1-1.

Reports suggest the CFA were initially unsure as to how to punish Oscar and wrote to FIFA asking for advice following a disciplinary hearing on Wednesday (June 21).

His ban now sees him unable to play in the Chinese Super League until August 13. He has also been ordered to pay a fine of $5,000.

In a surprise reshuffle at the top of Saudi Arabia's royal hierarchy, the country's king has removed his nephew as crown prince in favor of his son, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz.

Mohammed bin Salman will now be first in line to succeed his father King Salman as ruler of the key US ally.
The 31-year-old has been appointed deputy prime minister and will continue in his role as defense minister, according to a royal decree cited by state media.
Despite his youth, Mohammed bin Salman has long had a visible role in the government, and has spearheaded the kingdom's attempts to wean itself off oil as part of an economic strategy announced last year.
Key reform policies currently in place -- such as the Vision 2030 plan and a planned IPO by Saudi oil giant Aramco -- were already being driven by him.
As defense minister, he has overseen the Saudi-led military campaign against Yemen's Houthi rebels, which has caused the deaths of thousands of civilians since 2015 and left the country spiraling towards "total social, economic and institutional collapse," according to the United Nations.

The wife of billionaire kidnapping kingpin, Mrs Uchenna Onwuamadike, who is finding it very difficult to keep quiet since her husband was arrested, shared a photo of herself and her four children with Evans crying as they pleaded with Nigerians to have mercy on their father. She said in an interview;
Our children could not believe what they were reading about their father. They are saying that he cannot do all the things they said he did. In fact, while we were in Nigeria, he had never slept outside our house.
My children were crying when they saw his bloody eyes and swollen face. Our condition was worsened when I saw my picture with him and our children on the face book. I don’t know where they got it. I have not been receiving money from him, I have never seen his money.

I feel very bad because I did not know if he was doing all these or not. Even if he was into all these, why did he not stop because of me and his children? All the time when we pray, he used to promise God that he would tell Him his story later in life. He reads psalm 23 a lot.

Even his phone, he sets alarm for 12 noon to read psalm 23. He took part in our daily prayers in the morning, evening and night. He used to lead us in prayers.

I am appealing to the powers that be to spare his life (crying), as I speak now, I am kneeling down with my children, crying and begging for forgiveness. Have mercy on us.

He did not know what he was doing. He did not know what came over him. I am ready to come back to Nigeria and plead on his behalf. What I am reading in the news is shocking.

Though, I have not heard that he killed anybody but all those he injured or took their money should please forgive him because of me and my children. They should kindly forgive him, he will repent. God knows I will not be alive and see my husband doing bad thing and keep quiet.

This is the current deplorable state of the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Obubra Local Government Area of Cross River State. Meanwhile, the Orientation exercise was moved temporarily to Cross River State College of Education (COE), Akampka to give way for the renovation and rehabilitation of the Permanent camp.

However, the Cross River State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Board Chairman of Cross River State, Hon Asu Okang said the move is only temporary as the state government has no intention to move the camp from Obubra LGA.

Comr Okang made this known through a media chat held on Wednesday in Calabar with the Leadership of Obubra Local Government Area.

Billionaire kidnapper, Chukwudemeje George Onwuamadike alias Evans, who was arrested last weekend, has been weeping uncontrollably in a maximum police cell where he is now being held with other common criminals. Police sources say Evans who has been accustomed to a lavish lifestyle, is finding it had to adjust to the harsh environmental conditions within the police cell.

Speaking to The Nation, a police source said
“He has been weeping uncontrollably because he is in a cell with common poor criminals despite all the wealth and mansions he owned. He has started talking. He has given us locations of other detention camps he had in Lagos. Aside Igando, he had two others and detectives would visit the place. He also said that his very first robbery was in Sokoto State and that they killed the victim. He is still being interrogated and more details would come out after the camps have been visited.”
Evans was excommunicated from Nnewi for over five years because of the atrocities he committed in the community. He has confessed to collecting huge sums of money as ransom from his victims, some of them paying as much as $1 million.

Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Ezike, has announced plans by the state command to confer posthumous promotion on the two officers, Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko and Sergeant Sunday Agbo, killed during a bank robbery in Owerri, the state capital in February this year.

This awards come as Zenith bank where the police officers were stationed, also released funds as compensation to the deceased families.

The CCTV footage of the bank robbery went viral last week with many Nigerians calling for the families of the brave mobile police officers to be adequately compensated.

Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko was the officer who ran out of the security post during the robbery attack. He succeeded in killing one of the robbers before running out of the security post.

Many Nigerians have applauded him for the bravery he displayed during the attack.

The NERC has ​declared that electricity consumers ​that were ​not provided with prepaid meters ​as at​ March 1 should stop paying electricity bills presented by DISCOs on the basis of estimated billing methodology. The commission also ordered the DISCOs not to disconnect any such customer that refuses to pay the bills and further advised such customers to report to the commission if disconnected. The NERC said​ the new directive is in line with its mandate of protecting the rights of customers.

Part of the statement read:​ ​
“A directive was issued to distribution companies by the commission in June 2016 for all MD customers to be metered by 30 November 2016. “The commission received appeals on compliance deadline from distribution companies prior to the expiration of the 30 November 2016 deadline. The deadline was extended to 1 March 2017 after consideration of appeals received from distribution companies. “Upon due consideration of facts above and the expiration of the compliance deadline granted to distribution companies on the metering of MD customers; the commission hereby directs as follows;

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Tuesday ordered the final forfeiture of about N13 billion found in Flat 7B, Osborne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos.

Justice Muslim Hassan ordered that the money be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government since nobody has claimed its ownership.

The judge, however, refused to grant the application of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) counsel, I. A. Mohammed, asking the court to award N5million as costs against a lawyer and rights activist, Olukoya Ogungbeje.

Ogungbeje had filed an application for stay of proceedings pending when Acting President Yemi Osinbajo –led probe panel will submit its report on the matter.

Justice Hassan said: “By any standard this huge sum of money is not expected to be kept without going through the designated financial institution.

“Also, nobody has shown cause why the money should not be forfeited to the Federal Government.”
