CoronaVirusPro: I really respect your input and find it difficult to an extent even when I know you saying the truth.
He rode on the status quo. Did not create it but rode on it. You can’t tell me His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) created touts in Lagos. Marwa abolished it before Tinubu came into power.
I won’t exonerate His Excellency, President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) from the menace, but I would be considerate that being the first democratic rule in decades after military rule, he had a lot of challenges on his table. Made big wins and accomplishments.
My worry, let me call it problem, is that, After Fashola, all have just been none living things,. Lagosians know these people are not living, as they happen to be very enlightened. They voted JUST TO SPITE the minority. Meaning Nigerians use English words incorrectly. Touts : are PERSONS, 1) who buys tickets (e.g cinema tickets, tickets to horse-races or football matches ), horde them and re-sell later ,at higher rates to make profits. 2) who provide information about a winning formula e.g in gambling or betting at a race-course ,in order to share a percentage ,out of the winning prizes/money. Either case, neither Marwa nor Tinubu banned nor created touts. The correction interpretation of what happened: Gen Buba Marwa ,as a MILITARY Administrator of Lagos, instituted certain measures such as mass arrests and detention of certain youths who were considered Street Urchins ,thugs and banned the activities of NURTW,in attempts to improved security in the State ,between 1996-1999. Because, Nigeria was under MILITARY RULE at that time, these actions which obviously violated the rights of those individuals, couldn't be challenged in court. Tinubu: in the early days of his administration, tried to copied Marwa ,by banning NURTW but the members of this body ,went to court to challenge this order and the court ruled that the Governor has no right to ban any citizen or union in the State. On the issue of empowerment of touts: this is a grave ignorance ,which I will talk about later |

I regularly visit the Social Media sites of South Africa, US,UK, India,Morocco and several other countries. Facts were presented by both sides and a resolution was reached, a solution that has worked for 60years, if you want to change it, common sense dictates you should try something different from what took you to Aburi in the first place, stop thinking like a Nigerian politician. Use your own head because in the end, the politician will serve out his term and leave, while you become the victim. 1) There was no national debate at Aburi, Ghana but a Truce meeting, brokered by the Ghanian Head of State between the Federal Military Government and Government of Eastern Region and even at that, this was NOT about State Police. 2) Native Authority Police in 1960s were ran by Native Authority (Local Governments ) and they didn't carry arms but uses buttons. There were not issues in the national discourse then. 3) Nigeria is a Federation and in all Federations, each Federating unit manage it's internal affairs, including security. 4) State Police and Resource Control are two vital steps, Nigeria needs to move closer to True Federalism. |

nairalanda1: All of a sudden we have gone from state police that is statewide to 'special force to augument the federal police'
You state police people should make up your mind, what is it you want?
As for me, most, if not all states cannot fund a state police. I am not attacking your positions or saying that you are so wrong, I am just stating a fact. To maintain a state police, most states are going to have to tax the citizens of the state that are not taxed...and most of you guys don't like that.
I mean, look at Zamfara....even if we use your idea....the state police still has to be well equipped....because bandits and firepower....and at the end of the day, where are we gonna get the money? From a state that is as broke as 34 of the 36 states? From a federal government whose federal police use ancient guns and weaponry because funding issues ?
Even our federal police, government has issues funding it properly, ya think there will be money enough for state police?
Let's face reality o. State police on paper is a good idea, but in the Nigerian setting, where we all rely on limited money from oil, and where most states don't want to do proper igr, it's basically unrealistic. Unless you want guys in khaki shorts and shirts wielding sticks and batons like the old NA Police. States that afford State Police should have it. Even now, are the current FG Police everywhere? The answer is CAPITAL NO. There are many States in Nigeria that Police Stations are NOT available in rural areas. The FG maintain a special Road Police called FRSC, are they everywhere? |

Tinubu is the Oil minister, he has monopolized Oil wealth for himself, politicians and corrupt Supreme court judges.
Yet they still want to keep pushing their luck too far by dipping their hands into our pockets like Agberoes working for MC Oluomo under Oshodi bridge.
They are emboldened everyday because Nigerians have become docile and sedentary. Like thieves and rogues, their appetite for free money extorted from Nigerians keep growing because Nigerians have refused to push back. Now they ask for your blood.
Libya as an oil country under Ghadaffi was giving 100% free education, buying houses for citizens, free water pumped by government, free power. Almost 0% taxes. Same with many other Arab countries..
Why must Nigeria's own be different? You take the oil money, provide nothing for generality of the people, yet you ask for their blood in taxes? Wetin dey give Tinubu mind sef? IMF? World Bank? France?

Some folks breathing through the @rses of politicians will tell you, it will solve regional insecurity, thats a huge joke, look at herdsmen crisis the way we have politicised, tribalised the conflict even at central command level, do you expect an average hausa fellow heading Borno state police not to litter the place with his hausa brothers? do you expect him to send his Hausa brothers to die for the Kanuri boko haram? The only reason CJTF succeeded was because they were under a centralized military and they recruited mostly from the Kanuris, truth is: Tribalism is a very big issue in this country and anyone that chooses to ignore it with a state police proposal is super ignorant. You haven't proved anything wrong with State Police apart from the unfounded fear that non indigenes will not get Justice from it. jpphilips: During the Aburi Conference, Ojukwu accused the then IGP Salem of negligence, which led to the death of Igbos up North in a pogrom that claimed around 30,000 lives, a bitter precursor to the civil war. In his Defence, the IGP placed the blame on NAP, the Northern Authority police, the then regional police in the North, according to Salem, the National police did all it could but the regional police continued with the killings, in other to forestall any re-occurance, Ojukwu proposed the centralization of the armed forces, something in practice till date, first implemented in the Decree 8 of 1967.
By centralizing the armed forces, the Federal police became the sole law enforcer in the land, ever since, there has not been a repeat of 1966 pogrom, fast forward today, our irresponsible and ignorant politicians for their selfish reasons want to return us to pre-1966, it wasnt just the igbo pogrom that suffered under NAP, in the western region, after the 1964 elections, Awolowo lost seat majority to Akintola who was backed by the federal might, on the other hand, Awolowo was backed by the WRNAP the then western regional police, this misgivings gave rise to two years of bitter clashes and killings that forced the central government to carve out the Mid-western region from the Western region, through out the short period we practiced Regional police, nothing good came out of it, why would someone in his right senses today think state police will solve any problem, despite our ethnic biases?
Every African country with tribal sentiments breaks apart as soon as they establish state police, the case of the Tigray region and South Sudan comes to mind, even if we can't learn from our own experience, why can't we learn from other people's experience? Imagine a lagos state dominated by Yoruba state police, how do you expect an igbo man to get justice in Lagos under such arrangement? How do you expect igbos to feel safe when the Yoruba-dominated state police actors felt slighted that an igbo man has won a state or federal election in Lagos state?
A wise man once said, “The surest way to solve a crisis is never to create it.” State police will be the final nail in the coffin of this nation. This write up is filled with inaccuracies and conjectures. 1) There was no organisation called Northern Authority Police (NAP) or WNRAP in the First Republic. 2) There were Native Authority (NA) Police and they weren't carrying arms but only used battons (kendo/Opa). The local names for Police in many parts of Nigeria has connections with this instrument e.g Olopa (The one with stick) in the South. 3) Only few officers (not the rank and files) of the Federal Police carried arms before ,1966. The insinuation, that the program in the North were carried out by Northern Police is a blatant lie. 4) Every State has the God-given right to protect their people and secure their properties. 5) There are already elements of State Police in Nigeria e.g LATSMA in Lagos , OYES in Osun, HISBAH in Kano etc |

The hallmark of an educated mind is the ability to learn, unlearn and re-learn. Because, Seaports aren't just infrastructure but have serious economic and SECURITY implications, for the whole country, the constitution vested the powers for regulatory controls in the FG. However, this is not limited to seaport but also true for university, education, airports and so many other aspect of our national life. In this dispensation, the FG is more of a regulator than active player in many sectors. 1) Lagos State through PPP built Lekki Deepsea Port and is currently building Badagry Deep Sea-Port. 2) A-Ibom State has started building Ibaka Deep Port for years 3) In 2023 , Ondo State got approval from the FG to build her own Seaport

I will use airline industry to giv u an example...airbus 380 planes which are most owned by emirates airlines do not land in nigeria becos our runway cannot handle that particular class of plane.instead they use older substandard planes to convey passenger to Nigeria bt abroad they use airbus 380 for long haul flights.so who do u blame now for that?ofcourse nigerian government who hav refused to improve along wit d rest of d world You are still living in the past (most probably born and grew up under the Military Rule, where FG was in-charge of virtually every aspect of Nigeria's economy). Seaports, Airports, Railways and Electricity have been taken off from the exclusive list in the constitution and taken to concurrent list (meaning both FG and States can legislate on these items). Lagos State ,through PPP built Lekki Deep Sea Port (more sophisticated than the old ports at Apapa and Tin Can) and currently building Badagry Deep-Sea Port. Dangote is building Dangote Port for COMMERCIAL purposes in Ogun State. Ibaka DEEP Seaport ,would have been completed if A/Ibom State Government is not doing it as a typical Government Project but do it via Public-Private Partnership, in conjunction with Chinese or Indian Business Corporations. The roles of the FG is now more of a regulator rather than active players in these industries. |

Thereby spreading development to Akwa Ibom and Lagos port was a par with it. The same Tinubu colluded with OBJ and said the needed dredging and Uzondinma was awarded the project yet nothing happened till date. Lagos became the sole active port in the country,so why wouldn't the develop better than other regions. The claim big ships can't come to calabar port yet is it canoe that supplies tankers of fuel, diesel, kerosene and bitumen to depot's at calabar.
