DMerciful: Irish have Ireland, English have England! UK is a lose confederation.
Yoruba needs Yoruba nation for exclusivity. As long as you're in a country, all citizens have equal right to vote and be voted for anywhere in Nigeria I never said all citizens don't have rights but they aren't the same as indigenes. Benjamin Kalu's Bill try aim at 'making non-indigenes to become indigenes' This is very laughable. Suppose ,Ikemefuna and Umar Aldo who have lived in Benue State since 2010, without becoming Tiv or Idoma, want to become indigenes of Benue State, who will confer indigenship on them? 1) President 2) Governor of Benue State 3) Local Government chairman of their place of residence 4) Traditional Rulers of the towns they live in 5) Benjamin Kalu Indigenship ,just as love or unity can NOT be created by legislation. |

Nefort: Granting political rights to people who have resided in particular state for some years doesn't in any way translate to ethnic cleansing or genocide. Those examples you mentioned are something entirely different from the subject matter. The constitution of Nigeria already grant citizenship rights to ALL Nigerians. You only need to be citizens to run for elections. However, indigenship of a town or kingdom is by ancestries and cultural identities. If you want to become indigene of Ilesha, you become an Ilesha person by adoption of their language, culture and ways of life. You can NOT retain your ethnic identity and still want to be regarded as indigenes of other peoples ancestral homelands. This is fraudulent. |

DMerciful: Unfortunately, you are either in a country or you're not. If Yorubas want exclusivity, they have to do it in Yoruba nation You are fixated on Yorubas, instead of try to read and comprehend the issues raised. Look at UK, despite 800 years of colonialism, coexistence, subjugation and inter-marriages, the Irish people haven't become English. Yoruba is NOT the only people in Nigeria. As a matter of fact, it would favour the Yoruba but ,by nature ,Yoruba aren't interested in becoming indigenes of other States. It would put so many minority tribes in serious jeopardy. In short, this law is dead on arrival. Apart from Igbos and may be Fulanis, over 70% of Nigerians would oppose it. |

MattChidi: This is a welcome development. It will increase integration and development of host communities even better because they will feel more connected to it. Anything that would bring about a progressive Nigeria, i am open for it. It would cause greater problems than solutions. Few large tribes, who obviously would be the ones controlling the FG could use it to strategically position their people across Nigeria both geographically and politically. Read how Hausa-Fulanis settlers in Jos used the influence of their people in the FG to create Jos North LGA, which is predominantly for themselves. They now use slots of Plateau State to gain employment and even political appointments. In 2009, President Yar'Adua appointed a Kano man as a Minister from Plateau State. Indigenes of Plateau protested but all their protests fell to deaf ears. In 2011, GEJ appointed Olusegun Aganga (originally from Edo State) a Minister from Lagos. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila moved a motion that he isn't an indigene of Lagos State but nobody listened to him. |

You mean Yorubas will go and wipe out the Igbos in the east and the Igbos will go and wipe out the Yorubas in the west? Does that make sense to you? Some of you just talk without using your brains. OMEGA009: A “UK parliamentarian” is talking about indigenship? Isn’t that funny? Holding a piece of govt in a foreign land but stopping other foreigners from holding one in yours? Please define hypocrisy again? The bill goes beyond holding political posts. . The real reason for recurring crisis in Southern Kaduna and the Middle Belt is the attempts by the Hausa-Fulanis to become indigenes of these places and enjoy rights and privileges of indigenes including ancestral claims to lands. If you tell the Berom, Ngas or Anaguta, Agatu or Tiv that you want the Fulanis to become indigenes of their States, you would be beaten mercilessly. |

DMerciful: You cannot want Nigeria to remain as one country without wanting one Nigeria. They're not mutually exclusive!
Yoruba ronus, it's either Nigeria stay as one country where every citizen has equal rights or Nigeria disintegrate and every go to their ethnic nationality as a small independent country You people don't think DEEPLY about major moves. You wrongly assume that this would be restricted to Lagos and other Yoruba States but you are dead wrong. By the time, you start seeing Justice Tajudeen Ishola, Justice Ibrahim Mukthair and Justice Binta Aminu representing Anambra, Imo and Abia States in the Supreme Court or Chief Denis Obahiagbon appointed as Minister to represent Ebonyi, it would be too late to shout marginalisation since, everybody would now be equal and they can claim indigenship of these States, having lived there for ten years. Indigenship evolve through ancestries and cultural assimilation, not legislation. For instance, Sen Fatai Buhari (APC, Oyo North) is an illustrious indigene of Ogbomosho BUT he is a descendant of 18th century Fulani settler in Ogbomosho. Today he is a proud Yoruba man. Gov Umar Bago is a Nupe indigene but his family is originally from Fulani Jihardists that settled and assimilated into Nupe society. |

jidemilo: Politics aside the bill make a lot sense It does NOT make any sense because; 1) Nobody can grant indigenship, FG or National Assembly can NOT grant indigenship . . . it is natural. Indigenship cab NOT be enforced just as love and unity can NOT be enforced. 2) Citizenship is not the same thing ad indigenship. Sodiq Khan (Long term Mayor of London), Rishi Sunak (Former Prime Minister) and Kemi Badenoch (Leader of Tory Party) became British citizens because they were born in the UK but they never became indigenes of England . Only English peoples are indigenes of England. |

iLegendd: List a few things you think will happen to Nigerians when APC is done.
Below are mine.
1. Number of obese and diabetic patients will reduce to just 3% in Nigeria. No be who see excess enjoyment like Cubana Chief Priest dey get those ones?
2. Number of hypertensive patients (young and old) will shoot up to 90%. And some of them will be fed up and commit suicide without a suicide note to justify their reasons. We know it's depression. No need for note.
3. Everyone will finally know that having a large farm is better than having a large degree, but despite this, they'll be afraid to be farmers because that is where they'll probably meet their untimely death from the hands of Fulani herdsmen and nothing will happen. Dead, gone and forgotten.
4. Most Nigerian women will be infection bank of the world because frustration will lead most to sleeping with anything, including dogs, as long as money is involved. If you increase the price, they'll do crazier sh!ts and skin-to-skin. They no longer care. They're frustrated enough already and think life isn't even worth living again.
5. Most men like us, who always preach against fraud and advise others not to do it will no longer preach against it neither will we support it. We'll just say, "Do what favours you and puts food on your table."
6. Cultism will reduce because na who him belle full na him dey scream aro mate.
7. Kidnapping, organ harvesting, armed robbery, dishonesty, evil, and all sorts of crimes will be a normal thing — religious leaders will be involved and even straight men sleeping with gay men for money will become normalized and trendy.
8. Most women won't be married even at age 38 because the 40 year old man that is supposed to marry them can't even feed himself properly. Hence, these women will go into beer parlour business and end up sleeping with all her customers praying for one of them to marry her.
9. Naira will still fall and fuel will still rise — it's just a matter of time and this will make billionaires holding dollars or the country in hostage become richer and the poor poorer and susceptible to manipulation by the rich in exchange for token or to commit a crime for them.
10. Frustration will pile up and one day, the underpaid military who love to obey the last command will disobey their bosses and start shooting at politicians and everyone.
It'll become a pandemic and politicians will now become scared of men in military and police uniform because they don't know the one of their bodyguards that'll open fire on them. Nigeria will become so chaotic and the pandemonium will become a full blown revolution pioneered my the military. (It's just a matter of time). Nigeria is just waiting for Burkina Faso to succeed so that we can use them as reference to the kind of life and leadership we want.
List yours... There would be increase in EXPORT trade ,which would trickle down to the masses. |

franchasng: This sums up why African nations will never catch up with the level of developments we see in western countries and even Asian countries today.
The only leaders that have the capacity to develop their nation to a world-class standard are Dictators, Emperors, Kings and Queens.
Democracy is not meant for nations still struggling with development, it is meant for nations that have achieved national development and now looking for ways to rotate the leadership for the sake of equity and inclusiveness.
And African nations missed that era we had Military Dictators who were supposed to develop African nations to global standard.
Democracy is not the best system of government for Nigeria. If Tinubu was a sensible man with good intention for all Nigerians, he would have been a good Emperor to rule Nigeria for like 30 years, but the man is so unfortunate, so bias, so tribalistic and so greedy that he hardly gets satisfied with stealing public funds Development of NATIONS requires *Discipline *Knowledge a.k.a Technical man-power * Unity of purpose. It is far easier to achieve these objectives in countries where most peoples share common ancestries, world views, value systems and speak similar or related languages or practice similar religions. African countries that are close to this stage (Burundi, Rwanda, Senegal, Eritrea and Somalia) can become great if they have strong leaders . No individual political party or tribes can rule Nigeria for a very long time because of the complex heterogeneity nature of the country. If colonialism hasn't distrupted African political systems, we ought to just improve and modernize our Kingdoms into modern nations and we would have developed faster. This was what happened in Morocco, Libya, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and many other Arab countries that simply transformed their Kingdoms into modern nations. The next best alternative was what the British did : Indirect Rule followed by Self-Goverents and finally Independence based on PARLIAMENTARY democracy and True Federalism but the Military struck on Jan-15, 1966 and abolished this system. |

How did they manage to still build this brand new city ..? Why can't a Nigerian city be like this even after billions allocated to governors ND fct minister.. for decades we are still talking about roads... You under-estimate the resilience power of the human minds to solve problems that they truly want to solve. First, North Korea (just like Communist China) is not a democratic nation and never pretend to observe human rights. The Supreme Leader, announce tasks to be done (e.g construction of 100km roads or 20 sky scrappers along a boulevard) and everybody key into this. 1) They don't award contracts: the citizens build their towns/cities themselves. This build capacity, Foster sense of patriotism and reduce corruption. 2) There is no opposition and/elections: the divisiveness of elections and opposition politics are eliminated. All hands must be on deck to achieve the set goals and anyone that tries to deviate from it are treated as traitors ,with punishments that can range from death sentence or imprisonment with hard labour. 3) There is no term limits: The leaders aren't distracted by 'how to win the next elections or the temptations to embezzle money to be able to live comfortably after office' 4) The heavy sanctions make it very difficult for North Korea to import things, so they they look inwards to find ways they can use what is avaliable in their country to solve their problems. In the long run, this 'punishment' is a blessing in disguise for North Korea, though it can also make things very difficult for them e.g North Korea resorted to collection of human excreta of their citizens to be processed into organic manure because they couldn't access fertiliser. This may seem disgusting and even expose some people to health hazards but it worked. It boosted the Country's food production in the face of almost total isolation. |

Why must it be Lagos or Port Harcourt? Is there not already a refinery in Kaduna? How did crude oil get there Can we not build another refinery ? Or refineries How long did it take to build a refinery in Lagos The Kaduna Refiner is presently NOT functioning. The Refinery in Niger Republic was built and ran by the Chinese. The Niger Republic Military Junta borrowed about $450 million from China, using their future crude oil sale to the Chinese Refinery as a collateral. However, they couldn't raise any money to repay the loan, so they resorted to 'Area Boys' Tactics by slaming the Chinese Refinery company a $80billion Tax. When the Refinery didn't pay this outrageous tax, the Military Rulers seized the company and expelled the Chinese Expariates from Niger Republic. However, they have no experience or technical know how to run the Refinery, leading to fuel scarcity . They had to swallow their pride and beg Nigeria to sell 300 Trucks of petrol to them. Niger Republic ,just like other African countries are very poor because they don't have the knowledge to add values to their resources to produce what they want. |

My point is very clear: if you Yorubas want all igboid groups to be seen as distinct ethnicities, then all yoruboid groups should be categorised as such too. Simplicita..
You can not be jumping up and down from the southwest, as you desperately try to define groups you don't share broders with. You uave been on this mission for purely selfish pecuniary interests for eons.. It has cost lives and destroyed businesses. And you don't care..
There is no igbo agenda to separate yoruboid groups from mainstream Yorubas. So you guys in the southwest who use the media, government agencies and political posturing to introduce a "divide and rule" regime between the south-east and her southsouth igboid groups since 1966, may want to back off...
And yes, ikwerre is more igbo than Awori is Yoruba.. You probably think Ikwere are like Pry -2 pupils that can't think for themselves and Yorubas can easily dictate for them on how to see themselves. |
