Though i also feel the writers shouldn't have made Killmonger challenge for the Throne, but they wanted to make him a total villain.

(We all grew up watching Hollywood and feel the joy when Actor prevails over the Boss which is equal to happy ending for the movie, movie critiques and our increase in knowledge due to internet now see most of us root for villains in movies)

This is a guy with a family connection to his Wakander origin, and it was clear his father taught him a lot.
He referred to Queen mother as 'Aunty', called Zuri 'Uncle James', T'Challa he called 'cousin'.

The boy had a rough childhood, and you know how all these 'tokunbo' children behave as if they are better than children back home, because they were born abroad.

He just wanted a family.

The elders in the throne room should have calmed him down when he challenged to take the throne. Try and make him feel welcome, while T'Challa also will apologize on behalf of his father, since he also know that what his father did was bad.

Then bring Killmonger into the fold, so that him and T'Challa will join forces together to defeat the villain.

Now, they need a villain to sacrifice, and the villain should have been Klaue. They should have made Klaue all powerful and defeat him in the end.

Finally finished watching Black Panther.

There is a saying in my place: Don't look too closely at the anus, otherwise you will see a lot of rubbish. grin

That said, I will not come down too hard at the movie for the simple reason that for once, Africa is not depicted as a starving, corruption ridden continent at war with itself. Like someone pointed out, it is movie that gives a middle finger to racists like that Professor Hugh Trevor-Roper, who infamously described African history as 'darkness'- the "...unrewarding gyrations of barbarous tribes in picturesque but irrelevant corners of the globe..."

This is a Hollywood production, and the past years have seen producers doffing their hats to minorities in productions Coco that saw an all Latino cast for the first time ever, and Black Panther is one of these bold forays into uncharted Hollywood territory.

While it is flawed in many aspects (let's not even go there), the saving grace of the movie is the depiction of Africa and Africans, although it is even faulty in that aspect. Seriously, most African societies have a system of checks and balances that can prevent even the most autocratic leaders from completely destroying age old traditions. Even if he succeeds, it can't be done overnight. A stranger cannot ascend the throne and in a blink of an eye destroy a kingmaking practice that has been on ground for centuries. The movie producers got it wrong there.

Be that as it may, I love the music and some of the action sequences. The acting is average and the gaddem fake accents distracted me from the dialogue, but I simply enjoyed feasting my eyes on that eye candy, Chad Bosewick. Chocolate! Meooooow wink grin

My favourite line in the movie is..."don't scare me so much, colonizer!" cheesy

7/10 is my verdict, and I'm sticking to it angry
Your favorite line was condemned by foreign blogs.

Just like you talk about check and balances.

America never colonized any country, and the techy Shuri must've known that.

So why call an American man a colonizer? Because he is white? Now that's just racism.

He seems to have watched that movie with emotions. Oh!! This is an oyinbo movie showcasing the African culture, let me just overlook the nollywood-like storyline, at least it's showcasing the Africa culture grin
It's not nollywood storyline.

The storyline might be a cliche, but that's because we have seen so many movies.

What's in Infinite war too?

We all know that all the Avengers are coming back, its like they split the movie into two.

I laughed when some people keep hailing Thanos, watch Part 2 and see how he will be useless.

What I meant by "with the exception of Lupita Nyngo'o" was, she's probably the only actress there that have had stints in African movies (she started out in nollywood as an amateur but got people's attention with her role in Shuga, an African series). Others like Chadwick and his sister, including Micheal B Jordan are just making their forays into African acts hence their difficulties in speaking African styled languages. Whittaker is not new into African acts because he acted as Idi Amin in of his past movies.
Ok, good.
Since you know that about Whittaker, why did you said they should have casted Edochie instead of him?

The use of Black Americans with the exception of Lupita N'yongo created that flaw in their language. Africans based actors would have voiced it well better than their Black American counterparts. Forest Whittaker priest role didn't impress me at all.
Lupita was the one that used fake accent pass.

She started with a bad African accent in sambisa, after that it was gburururu... fast English.

No, I didn't. I've not watched it before and never gave a review till today when I watched. I only said the storyline was not THAT great and I still think it isn't, but I never thought it was overhyped because I wasn't just looking at it from the storyline angle.

The African culture intonations, locations, languages, costumes were well represented. I love the fact they made it an African superhero movie and used Africa scenery and names. It's cultural significance for blacks who are fans of Hollywood. I also feel they'd have used at least one or two African actors who are not based in Hollywood. For example, I think Pete Edochie would have played the part of Forest Whittaker better than him. Pete is much more in tune with the African voodoo/priesthood ways and how to play it, it will come more naturally to him. They basically used only blacks in Hollywood to act an African-esque superhero movie while neglecting good African based actors, and it didn't seat well with me. But the movie is nice generally.
They used stars that are well known.

That's Hollywood.

Beorn:
Personally, I won't say Black Panther is overhyped because the actual hype is not about the great storyline of the movie, or because it's the best movie ever, the hype comes from its cultural significance, and what it means for the black people, having their own superhero, with our own African identity and roots clearly depicted in the movie. I still think the names you listed would have been better actors than the ones used who are just blacks but lack that African touch the likes of Chiwetel has.
You know i was surprised when i read your review, cos i respect your reviews but you jumped on the overrated bandwagon.

The title is 'Avicii True stories'.

I'm halfway through Black Panther ( laptop battery died). Nice movie, but not all its hyped to be. I found those really fake accents annoying. We have real African actors like Djimon Honsou, Akinnuoye Agbaje and Chiwetel Ejiofor with genuine accents who should have been given roles, but who do I see there?? Americans with their godawful fake accents.

Mscheeeeew. Let me finish the movie before I rate them.
Your rating will be low as seen by your comment.

Odin is a war god. I didnt mention anything about God of War. Vikings actually love to die in warfare so they can be raised by Odin and dine with him in Valhalla and also fight on his side when Ragnarok comes. Only those who die in warfare qualify for such glorious ressurection.

Loki is Shadow's cellmate in prison. He was the one who gave him the immortal advice: Do not piss off those bitches at the airport. His name in the movie will give u a hint he is Loki

I've heard so much about that show, is it worth giving a shot?
Yes, they are done with season 1.

It talks about how gods are loosing their relevance in this century because they are less talked about and worshipped by people. So they have to create a niche among their surviving worshippers to preserve their existence.

It also talks about how new gods like technology, media, social media are growing strong and emerging to take over from old gods like YHWH, Odin, Volkan, e.t.c because they are the gods people now talks about and worship.

Pretending to be Africans? Don't you think that should have cast Odunola Adekola as Black panther? And Funke Akindele as Nakia( I think so too.

Even a Nigeria movie director cast a British born as an African woman in half of a yellow sun.

UPDATE

Several people have reached out to hilda and she doesn't care

anyway sienna will read this so here it goes..

sienna you are going to destory someones life because you are a liar! i pay my taxes not for you to use it to lie

your wife has been emailing you for money and you have not replied.

you keep lying to social services and worse of all you are lying and getting the child tax credit money.

if you had a brain you will just release that money for their upkeep and move on. as you don't have a job child protection services can't get a cent off you so it shows that the kids money is what you are using on another woman.

anyway i am not utterly religious so i wont bring God into it but you know what..

the path you follow in life is what you will continue to follow..

yes i have been insulted here and told i am trying to ruin you or your reputation. but i am not.. but i cant be bothered to prove that to you or anyone ..

not only have you taken from the system for YEARS! you show off on here like you are not a scrounger.. you are a scrounger.. you are no different from a homeless benefit drainer.. my taxes oh! the taxes of people who work hard!!!

my hope is your wife is sorted and she will move on with her life. she is strong and she is powerful..

stay with hilda.. its not an issue afterall you can choose who you love.

lets hope you can stay away from the internet. because that where you find women

honestly its very hurtful that you became this person, begging for money from innocent people when you had already left and flew to meet your new woman.. so nairlanders and people would have given you money and for what? and yet many defend you..

you are a disgrace. you are your father! you are what he made you and you will remain that way. let people defend you. keep reading this and pretending not to know who i am.. i have told you to call me out.. i want you to because then everyone will know that the truth is so obvious.

you lied. you called the police on her you , made sure she was emotionally broken.. you made her sleep on the floor and you never paid a bill only letter her suffer... you gave the police her passport in the hope that they deport her..

if there is a God out there i hope he changes you.. i pray you find that wisdom to know your kids did not deserve this..

and yet you go to social services and keep lying to take more money? why ? sienna and it hurts to think people still support you and they say you can't speak for yourself.. what more do they need to see?

those kids will grow up and be successful.. they will rise and become great and you will only be the man that stole from them and nothing more.

all the abuse on your wife and kids and yet people support you...

the ugandan press are on this..

you see that wedding.. go and have it.. go and keep making babies..

remember its not one or tow marriages you had.. anyway thats gist for another day ..

at your age? at your age?

as for you hilda.. worry not my dear.. worry not.. do not come to me when your pain starts.. i wont even listen

and for all of you insulting me.. well its ok.. i can say i should not have posted here but my post brought out the ugandan woman and i had no idea she existed because he was dating someone else..

so madam uganda, you are not the only one.. enjoy yourself.. the other one will soon hear and she will come on here too..

to be honest the internet can do nothing.. i know that much.. however the truth is out..

keep lying siena.. keep lying and controlling that woman and replying all her messages..

why dont you face me directly.. ? you have my number? face me and stop hiding..
Sorry, i don't know any of you, but i have been following this saga.

I thought you said you are after the welfare of the kids?

But now you are veering towards destroying the man, and many people have told you that internet never forgets, he will always be the father of the children.

Let the mother of the kids move on.

The movie is ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT!!! .
This is coming from a hardcore cynic of movies especially comic book ones.

The plot,characters,social commentary,African language,African settings,African music,African accents,family drama,romance,combat scenes,politics,subtle humour.

Watching this movie gave me a warm feeling in my heart.
In my review, i said we should all be happy a movie like this was made in our lifetime. Many are ungrateful for saying that BP is overrated. It might be a cliche, but it's thrilling.
