25th May, 2018 The Muslim Congress (TMC) Press Release We condemn CAN's advice to FG and other countries to relocate their embassies to Jerusalem The Muslim Congress condemns in the strongest terms the advice of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) to the Federal Government of Nigeria to relocate Nigeria's embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem as done by the United States of America - a move that has attracted global condemnation from countries with conscience and integrity. The ill-informed advice is akin to asking the Federal Government to relocate its capital from Abuja to the disputed Bakassi region between Nigeria and Cameroon. It is obvious that CAN, as presently constituted, does not like Muslims and the development of Islam locally and internationally. This unfortunate comment is shameful and inimical to global and local cooperation and solidarity. Instead of this misguided religious organisation to address the lingering allegation of the N40 million “transport money” collected by its leaders from President Buhari during their visit to him, the group diverted attention by issuing an unsolicited advice to the Federal Government. We have said severally in our timely press releases that the present CAN is a political association with selfish interests. It does not represent the best interests of peace loving Christians in Nigeria. Ignorantly and shamelessly, the group asserted that the declaration made by President Donald Trump on December 6, 2017 was a fulfilment of a Biblical prophecy. On what basis did CAN make this assertion? Is Trump a Crusader or another King David? Worse still, CAN stated that “It is our prayers that other countries including Nigeria will relocate their embassies from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem”, thereby taking a position different from the position of Nigeria. Is this patriotism? While many freedom-loving people and countries are angry and upset that Palestinians are being killed on their land and denied human dignity, the leadership of CAN was unfortunately affirming that “We are happy that countries such as the United States of America, Guatemala, Honduras, Romania and Paraguay have relocated their embassies from Tel Aviv.’’ Who elected these hate mongers and uninformed theologians who lack empathy, solidarity and conscience to run the affairs of Christians in Nigeria? Can't they emulate their counterparts in South Africa, the Vatican, Britain and other upright nations? Finally, TMC counsels the Federal Government to maintain its rational and thoughtful posture on the Israeli - Palestinian conflict. President Buhari and the foreign policy leaders of government should disregard the misguided barking of CAN. The issues of concern are the Christian and Muslim Palestinians who are being killed by Zionist Israel. Must these inhuman atrocities be allowed to continue because America is involved? We should remember that Rome, Greece and many other civilisations in the world collapsed on the crucibles of injustice and impunity. Long live Palestine! Long live the Federal Republic of Nigeria! The issue of herdsmen killing in benue is another evil ways by CAN and it's political associates to malign Islam and also a means to get themselves back to power. As we all knw, those free money are no more flowing the way it flows before. Nigerians should plead to CAN to stop sponsoring the killings benue. We still remember those behind maitatsine saga in Kano just to malign Islam |

The rich CV of Magu that give National Assembly sleepless night: THE MAN: #IBRAHIM #MUSTAFA #MAGU. THEY FEAR HIM MORE THAN THEIR DEATH. Ibrahim Mustafa Magu, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, was on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, screened by the Senate for the position of the Executive Chairman, EFCC. Magu, a Deputy Commissioner of Police is an indigene of Borno State. He attended the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, Zaria, where he obtained a degree in Accountancy and a Masters Degree in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice. He also holds a Post Graduate Certificate in World Corruption Studies from the University of Hong Kong. A certified accountant, trained as financial crimes investigator with a background in forensic accounting, Magu has been exposed to training from the United State Federal Bureau of Investigation, FBI, and the London Metropolitan Police institute. He is one of the founding staff of the EFCC who served as Head of the Commission’s Economic Governance Unit, EGU, during the tenure of Nuhu Ribadu. In that position, he led many high profile investigations against former governors including James Ibori of Delta State. The EFCC Boss is a member of the investigative committee convened by National Security Adviser (NSA), Babagana Monguno on the orders of President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the procurement of arms in the Armed Forces from 2007 till date. No doubt, Magu is a professional by all standards, a courageous investigator and strongly views corruption as a crime against humanity. He said his mission in the EFCC is to ginger up the anti-corruption campaign. His words: “there is the need to make sure that whatever is gotten for common use did not end up in private pockets,” he has said repeatedly. “I am ready and willing to work with everybody without any primordial concerns, I will discharge my duties as the Chairman, EFCC, guided by the fear of God, the overriding interest of Nigeria and the rule of law”, he promised. The acting Chairman who was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in acting capacity on November 9, 2015, has recorded unprecedented achievements in the history of the Commission. Amongst the over 200 convictions he recorded in a period of about one year is the convictions of the final forfeiture of N34 Billion which was traced to the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Deziani Allison Maduekwe; Interim forfeiture order of the sum of $9.8 Million Dollars and 74, 000 Pounds Recovered From Ex-NNPC GMD, Andrew Yakubu, following a raid in one of his houses in a slum in Kaduna. Others are the sentencing of former governor of Adamawa State, Bala Ngilari to five years in jail for procurement fraud; sentencing of former Director General of NIMASA, Temisan Omatseye to five years in prison for fraud and sentencing of former Local Government Chairman in Kogi State, Gabriel Daudu to five years in jail for money laundering; recovery of 17 vehicles from Ex- Comptroller-General of Customs, Abdullahi Dikko Inde; uncovering of Diezani's $37.5million Mansion and the securing of Interim Forfeiture Order of N50 million on Former Enugu CJ'S Bank Accounts, the list is unending. Only yesterday, operatives of the Commission, Kaduna zonal office, intercepted a sum of N49million in five large black 150kg coloured sacks following a tip off. Judge for yourself why he is a nightmares to the National Assembly senothieves...(BALA UMAR) |

THE CUSTOM UNIFORM SAGA BY THE NIGERIAN SENATE. . I wish to refer all those who have been commenting on the Custom Uniform debate to take time out to read Sections 1-4 of the Nigerian Customs Service Board Act which creates the Nigerian Customs Service Board and the constitution thereof as well as the Customs and Excise Management Act to appreciate the time wasting exercise of the Senate that has unfortunately distracted itself from the main substance of the issue which is the retroactive policy on payment of duties on vehicles and has concentrated on a time wasting , pedestrian and non issue of wearing uniforms by the CG. I am still waiting for anyone including the Senate to refer us to any general policy guidelines made by the Nigerian Customs Service Board that prescribes that the CG must wear uniforms. In fact by the provisions of Section 2 of the Act, anybody can be appointed as CG including a person seconded from any arm of the Civil Service . It doesn't have to be a career officer. And do our Senators and all know that the duties of the Board under the Customs and Excise Act are in two parts? Do they know what the Excise duties entail? Do they know that border and port control and duties assessment and collection are only an integral part of the functions of the service? Do they know that it also has inspectorate responsibilities over factories and industrial complexes? Do they know it has powers over some elements of aviation with powers to even impound ships and aircrafts? Do they know that it also must grant licences for the production of spirits and beers? Do they know that No brewery or distillery can manufacture beer or spirits in Nigeria without licence from the Board of Customs? Are they aware that It also has powers to make regulations regulating the manufacture of Tobacco .? And above all, about half of its work force doesn't even wear uniforms especially those on Excise duties. The CG is therefore not an enforcement officer alone, but also a regulator and licencing body. He is not obliged by law to wear uniform. Please let us support our assertions with the law setting up the Customs and Excise and its functions. Which law prescribes that anybody in the Customs should wear uniforms. As Comptroller General, he is the Vice Chairman of the Board and Finance Minister is the Chairman. Would she also wear uniform? He is not obliged to wear uniform because his schedule of duties does not require him to so do. Neither can he be compelled to do so. The Senate is misdirected in this case. Instead of facing the real issue of the retroactive directive on duty payment for imported cars, they are here busy chasing inanities and leaving the substance. They will come out bruised. Dr Olu Agunloye was Corp Marshal of FRSC, he didn't wear uniform to work. Roli Bode George as DG of NDLEA and her Executive Chairman don't wear uniform to work. She adorned it only occasionally out of choice and not because she was compelled or obliged to so do and for ceremonials. Lanre Ipinmisho was DG of NDLEA and didn't wear uniform. Retired AIG Oyakhilome was DG of NDLEA and he never wear their uniform. General Bamaiyi was Chairman of NDLEA, he didn't wear their uniform either. Neither did AIG Fulani Kwajafa. The current DG too doesn't wear any uniform. The pioneer Director of Customs, Mr Diyan and his predecessor didn't wear uniform too. It was Dr Bello who was a Veterinary Surgeon before his appointment as DG who first wore the uniform . He was never in the Customs before his appointment. They were all political appointees to the offices. So why the hullabaloo about a non issue as pedestrian by the Senate. The Senate promulgated the laws under which he operates, why is it so difficult for them to invoke their own law setting up the Customs to deal with the issue rather than all the playing to the gallery as we have so far seen. I have not heard any of the throats bursting senators make any reference to any law or guidelines that the DG of Customs has flouted by his refusal to wear uniform I believe that is not too much for them to refer themselves and the citizens to the relevant laws or regulations. They should invoke the law rather than distracting the Customs from doing its work. Enough of the comedy. |

amebo101:EXCELLENT. Trump just got his first lesson on separation of powers. Federal court halts Trump's #MuslimBan. "The federal court for the Eastern District of New York issued an emergency stay halting President Donald Trump’s executive order banning entry to the US from seven majority-Muslim countries tonight, following widespread protests at airports around the country. The court ruled on a habeas corpus petition filed by the ACLU on behalf of Hameed Khalid Darweesh and Sameer Abdulkhaleq Alshawi, who were denied entry to the US upon landing at JFK airport in New York City and detained indefinitely by Customs and Border Patrol. Darweesh spent a decade working for the United States military in Iraq as an interpreter and engineer and had been granted an entry visa after background checks; Alshawi had been granted a visa in order to join his wife and son who are already permanent residents of the US after their similar service with the US military." http://www.theverge.com/…/federal-court-halts-trumps-immigr… |
nlsmd:Godwin Amadi wrote THIS IS THE “CHANGE” WE VOTED FOR! Some people glamourize regret as if regret is a virtue or an endowment. All some posers need to do to remain relevant on social media is to say they regret voting Buhari. Others less imaginative ask, “Is this the change we voted for?” Whenever I hear these, I am reminded that loyalty is a high-price commodity. What are you regretting? IF you really voted “Change”, what did you have in mind? Instead of reveling in your ignorance, should you not be ashamed that you lacked the basic understanding of what you espoused? At your age and with your level of education you still dance to every beat? Shame! This is the “Change” I campaigned and voted for. From inception, I know real, lasting change comes at a high cost and discomfort. Have you ever attempted to change your life, weight, values or complexion? Did it come cheap or easy? Why do many people fail to live up to their New Year resolutions? Genuine change at any level is tough and cruel at first. Nigeria will not be an exception. What happens when corporate organizations decide to change processes and procedures in the workplace? It is usually resisted because most people prefer the status quo. Corporate changes like mergers, acquisitions and reconstructions create imbalance and uncertainties in the concerned entities. I know a man whose workforce reduced by 75% when he restructured (or effected change in) his company. Today, the same man is shouting his voice hoarse that Buhari’s change is draconian and insensitive. Hypocrite! How do we become self-sufficient in food production? The answer is simple: make heavy investments in agriculture and ban importation of foods that deplete our foreign reserve. Take rice for instance. As long as there are no restrictions on the importation of rice, local farmers will not grow rice and our exotic taste buds will not be retrained. If I were Buhari, I would put a total ban on the importation of rice. Take cars, fabrics and wines (and spirits) for another instance. Something drastic needed to be done about our appetite for cars, clothes and wines. The cumulative costs of importing this trio into Nigeria consumed a substantial share of our foreign reserve. Buhari says NO. He argues that if you must use these imports, then be ready to pay a premium price for them. This is simple logic and economics. This is especially so since global oil price has dwindled and tempers are high in the Niger Delta. Goods are more expensive in Nigeria today because Buhari insists that most of the products we import can and should be produced locally. By so doing, he has flung open unending investment and job opportunities for Nigerians especially. While reserving limited foreign exchange for some critical sectors of the economy, Buhari is urging them to make hay while the sun shines. Buhari is CHANGING the way we live, and the pains we now experience are his instruments of CHANGE. You can only take it, but you can’t reject it. Why is Buhari putting these strategic restrictions on our consumption patterns? If you are PDP or a hater, these restrictions are to punish Nigerians. But to the dispassionate observer, Buhari’s stance is the most effective route to Nigeria’s escape from economic doldrums festered by inordinate importation of all and every product. Some countries in Asia, Africa and North America have provided infallible precedents to what Buhari has set out to do. What has happened so far? Buhari is in a mad hurry to fix the refineries. About 6 states are now producing rice in commercial quantities. Cross River state has almost completed what is arguably the largest textile mill in Africa. Buhari is challenging Nigerians to introspect and unleash their creative geniuses. Unfortunately, politics is providing a distracting counter-intuition to these breath-taking developments. Where will Nigeria be in 10 years if we continue (or forced to continue) to look inwards? Imagine what will happen if we continue to produce a larger chunk of what we eat, wear and drink. Imagine when Aba, Sokoto, Nnewi, Kano, Ondo, Osun, Benue and Nasarawa turn natural endowments into skills. Imagine when our universities and polytechnics wake up. Imagine when our industries and blue-chip companies begin to produce. Only a bold step like Buhari’s CHANGE will give form to these imaginations. If you did not understand Buhari’s change, it is not Buhari’s fault. Regretting voting Buhari says so much about your character. Asking “Is this the change we voted for?” is the clearest indication that you must never be taken seriously again. You are a plastic supporter, and we will not need you in 2019 |
