Hi All
Please I need your advice
I got Visa denied for a master's degree in Public administration at Albany State University in Georgia using my aunt as sole sponsor also in Georgia.

Now I got a partial funding scholarship for a master's degree in Economics with a13k out of 58k total cost ( Tuition 30k, Cost of living and expenses 28k) at University of South Carolina.

I am planning to use m power loan of 45k to cover the deficit.

What do you guys advise?

Hey 🤠

1. USA visa Denial under section 214b will not tell you the specific reasons for denial because the embassy does not want to put herself into legal tussle , hence they leave you to reasonings.

2. Therefore , your next plans above is just a psychological reasonings . If you tell the general public your last interview transcripts then you can receive the best opinions from the experienced Nairalanders .

3. Dont use the EMPOWER loan. Student loans in the USA for international students are the worst for student visa issuance because you have to pay back that loan in a timeframe of about triple the years of your education.

4. Therefore , the USA consular will assume that you will stay behind to work after your study in order to offset your debt or abscond the USA leaving debts behind.

Bro, as per your 5th point here, I needed to let you know that you’re the one that disappeared not me and I’m not a gang member please 🙏

Please see my response posted again for your attention.

The point I was trying to make here is that “one should know when to pass because it’s okay not to know”

Bro, I’m not perfect and you know this, please don’t go that route. I was just making an harmless clarification and that’s why I didn’t go deeper into other issues raised. I’ve seen that similar point of “2years home stay straight” in your remarks and thought to clarify at the second prompt.

To your second question, the answer is NO, this is not manouvering or impatient, it’s just the standard and that’s why I pointed out the clause of filing for a PR.

As per the third question, it’s a NO again. There’re exceptions and you may not have to return home if you can prove that you don’t feel safe returning. Plus host institution can make a case for you if they really “need” you.

Fourth point? You’re right, securing waiver can be tedious especially from countries whose governments don’t contribute any financial support toward the program, naija sits on this table comfortably in most of the exchange programs.

Lastly to your 5th question. I’m the source, I’ve held both J &F in the past. Not only that, I belong to a network of the largest J visa sponsor in the US and have friends across borders with similar or different J visa hurdles, so experiences and precedence plenty to draw from.

Again, I appreciate your efforts toward attending to folks businesses here, but there’s wisdom in knowing when to “pass” when situations call for such.

Best wishes🙏

@EmmyPers.

1. You are reasonable in your counter response and i accept some of your points . No one knows all. We are all will continue learning until death except if that individual is comparing him/herself with God (who knows all).

2. I am awfully sorry to have mixed you up with the cabals. Your points make senses.

DO NOT EVER QUOTE ME IN YOUR LIFE AGAIN with your ignorant advice. It seems like you sleep on this thread because it's super late for a busy person in Nigeria to be replying thread on Nairaland. Get busy with your life!

I completed my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering without a prior Master's degree as other thousands of students have done before me and many other thousands are presently doing the same.

@justwise, it is high time you took a step to address this person's situation.

Hey 🤠

@oluezekiel

1. Who the hell are you ? If you see me physically you dare not even say hi to me . Its not superlate for you to comb out old story that does not even concern you ?

2. You are not a PhD holder and if you are you are just keeping a ceremonial certificate because the omission of the Msc has actually cut out the maturity or adulthood part out of your educational life .

3. All my businesses life is online 24/7. I am replying more than 20 email correspondence as i am typing both home and abroad likewise skyping and online studies . I don't juggle browsing or Internet data's like most of you kids.

4. Your bigmanism and fake profiles should be kept in your room and Nairaland is mare 5% of my online activities out of 100.

5. If you jumped the fence by missing Msc out of your educational life as a result of lack of financial ability that is your life. Don't teach younger generation how to jump fence or cut corners.

It is okay and normal to say "I don't know the answer to your question." No one expects you to always have answers to their questions.

This is way, I mean, way way out of point.

Hey 🤠

@oluezekiel

1. Why don you guys leave me alone ? Where were you when the OP asked the question and have you given your own correct version of the answer ?

2. The clause that says a J1 visa holder should go and use 2 years straight In his or her country of origin after the program is way way out of point ?

3. You are actually a retrogresive adviser who does not follow the rules of anything as it shows in your comment below . In terms of USA visas , from F1 to other types , I will lecture most of you like a primary school pupils .

4. Are you guys not ashame? Upon your seniority and superman and super woman claims on Nairaland , you guys keep failing every year.

5. I asked one of your gangs to come and say yes or no to my question but he disappeared, I did not see him again. Focus on how we are going to achieve at least 60% visa success transcripts on Nairaland . Stop focusing on me . If i write 1+1 equals 10. Leave me alone , write your own 1+1 equals 2. The general public are not fools. They will follow the right answer .

Hi Guys
Good morning

Please still on this visiting visa stuff, I'm meant to know that it has a validity of 5 years with multiple entries of 6 months each.

1) So if I go for a 1 week conference and stay for maybe 5 months then return back to Nigeria. I hope I'm still safe and it's not a red flag for next time

2) Since it has multiple entries, 6 months each for a period of 5 years, does it mean next time I want to use the visa I don't need to go to the embassy for a visa approval again. I just need to book my flight and go?

Please I need honest answers from people that know well about it

Hey 🤠

**Yes. If you have 5 years visa today and you travelled to the USA and stayed let's say 1 month and return back to Nigeria. You won't need to go back to the USA embassy again let's say next year 2025 if you want to attend a wedding in the USA. All you have to do is pick up your passport and buy flight ticket. The 5 years you got in 2024 will last you till 2029.

1. Focus on securing your B1/B2 visa first. When you are able to secure your visa , the United States embassy will issue 5-yrs tourist/visiting visa to you .

2. Effective from last year (2023), people
holding business and tourist visas (B1/B2) can now apply for new jobs in the USA. Ipso facto, with your B1/B2 visa you can appear for job interviews for prospective employment .

3. However, the USA Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) stipulated that your employer (s) must change your B1/B2 visa status before you resume the job.

4. If you go for 1 week conference and after the conference you find a vacancy you can go and apply with your B1/B2 and if they gave you the job your employer will work out how to change your B1/B2 to a relevant work visa and there you go, you can then start your job without coming back to Nigeria.

5. Focus on securing your B1/B2 visa first and attend your conference. ** However, if you cannot find employment on time do not stay longer than 6 weeks if you enter the USA on business purpose. You can always return back to the USA as many time as you want within those 5 years .

Best Wishes 🙏.

Hello, I intend to pursue my master degree program in civil engineering at the florida atlantic university boca raton. My interview date is May 13th. I'm concerned about self sponsorship. I'm a full time car dealer in Abuja and I've been able to raise enough money from my business over the years to able to sponsor this visa. Do I have a good chance of getting my visa approved or is this a concern for me? Almost every applicant I've met is being sponsored by someone. I need answers pls. 07067314629

Hey 🤠

1. Yes, generally it does not sound well for a student to sponsor him/herself. The notion is that a student is not working and must collect school fees and feedings from someone...* But that notion is from creche to Secondary school levels. However, the beliefs still follows all levels of studentship.

2. If you are from age 35 and above, you can actually sponsor yourself as a CEO of a running and reputable Building Construction / Civil Engineering company in Nigeria . You are married with kids and your company is expanding beyond your expectations and you needed modern /advanced technology skills to keep up with the pace.

3. Don't tell the story of that car dealership to the USA consular .

Hi there,

I have a question about getting a new I-20 form and sevis id if one decides to attend a different school than the one he originally got admitted to.

He is currently admitted to a US school and has already received an I-20 form with a sevis id number. However, he recently got an offer from another school that he would prefer to attend.

Is it possible to get a new I-20 form with a different sevis id number for the new school? If yes, could you please provide guidance through the process and what needs to be done to make the change between schools?

Thank you for your help thus far! I really appreciate it.

Hey 🤠

1. If you have not paid SEVIS fee then your situation is easy . You can apply to 20 schools and pick any one that interest you . Any school you finally picked would be the school that you will submit her (the University) SEVIS code when filling the SEVIS payment coupon online .

2. If you have paid SEVIS fee on a particular school , i will advice that you wait till you receive your F1 visa and after that you can transfer your SEVIS record to the school of your choice after arrival (on USA campus).

3. He should follow the same process he used in getting the 1st Form I 20 with the second school . Once he received the new Form I 20, then the next thing is to fill another DS 160 and pay MRV (Visa fee).

3. It's not a hard situation . Let me know your exact standings .

I need advice pleaseeeeeeeee, even though I work as an executive trainee with a tier 1 bank I'm tired and want to change my career path.

Please...

Hey 🤠

1. I like your thinking. M Power loan will make the consular thinks that you do not have any hope of repaying your loan except you started working and how many years of work will you do to make up with approximately NGN 75. M ?

2. Let's leave it that way. Your best option is to use a 3rd party employer in the medical field (ie LASUTH, OOUTH, IGBOBI, LUTH etc) as your sponsor .

Guy afternoon ooo.

Please sir/ma, don't be offended ooo. I what to ask. Do you know anything about traveling to USA via sport particularly Judo? One of my brother was told he may travel through that route. He has started committing money in this journey already. Please if you do, how genuine is that?

Hey 🤠

1. There are many Avenues (Visa types) you can use to secure United States visa but the most common two are F-1 (study) and B-1/B-2 (visiting &Tourism) visas.

2. In the case of your brother , the kind of visa that sport men/women usually use to secure US visa is P-1 (entertainment) visa and if at all the Judo visa stuff is genuine, then your brother should be process along with Judo team. Anything sport should not be an individual process.

3. If the person that is processing the visa is transparent to your brother in the process , eg your brother knows the team or club he is going with , your brother have access to email correspondence and your brother can verify his invitation letter to attend the sporting event then you should be fine .

4. The last aspect is that your brother must attend a visa interview physically at the United States embassy. If the agent says otherwise and only demanded your brother's travel passport then you should be careful . 90% of all kinds of United States visa needs physical appearances inside the USA embassy for 1st timers.

5. Just be careful and be certain that the agent carries you along.

Hello house , please my friend applied for F1 visa but unfortunately she used the old DS-160 number instead of the new one. What can she do please ?

Hey 🤠

1. If your friend is about to attend her F1 interview and she still has 1 week interval. Then let her quickly fill another DS 160 form and discard the old one .

2. After the filling , log in to her cgi portal and click on update-profile, clears off the old Ds 160 number and type the new number and save then log out of the cgi.

3. Afte 3 days , log in back to her cgi portal and click on Appointment, she should download and print another appointment letter .

4. The new printed appointment letter will contain (automatic update after 3 days) the new DS 160 numbers .

5. She should attend her F1 visa with the new appointment letter and the new ds 160 printout . By this , her appointment letter and ds 160 carries same information. DS 160 is of utmost important , she should go fill another one . Don't wait for embassy !

I may need to point out that you don’t need to stay back home for two years straight upon the expiration of your J visa, in fact you can be going in and out visiting and studying to maintain status for as long as you want. What you can’t do is to secure a fulltime job, file for PR or being filed for.

Hey 🤠

1. Your approach of input or additional info is acceptable as a perfect human being. I actually thought the OP wrote that his J2 visa had expired over the past 48 months (nevertheless, i still pointed out some J2 expiration truths).

2. I accept your point that anyone can try to manoeuvre or be impatient towards various types of USA visa rules , but i want to personally challenge you to answer YES or NO for the general public to read ;

3. 90% Of J1 (J2) visa policies States that ;

“…. you must be physically present in your country of nationality or last legal permanent residence for an aggregate of at least two years after departing the US at the end of your J-1 program. “ Immigration and Nationality Act, Section 212(e). YES OR NO ?

4. But the section also states ; If you cannot return home for two years, you must apply for a waiver (which is a tedious work).

5. I understand what you claimed above but in all honesty. Will you kindly post that section that states that you don't need to stay in your country for straight 2 years ? I can't know everything. Just post your source , i may be using it for future references.

Hey 🤠

1. The major option for B1/B2 to get your desired date if there is a targeted time frame for you to be in the USA is to apply for emergency appointment if you qualify .

2. You must apply for EA under 3 categories , viz ; A. medical emergency. B. student emergency. C. business emergency.

Hello guys, please is there anyother way to get interview dates if you get the 221g slip?
My mom applied for interview waiver back in 2022 and she got the 221g slip, we weren’t able to get dates until I saw for this May. They have now resheduled it to November. She overstayed in 2020 because of the COVID-19 shut down. Has anybody faced this before.
Thank you

Hey 🤠

1. You cannot expedite (fast track / request for emergency) anything when you are placed on 221g (Administrative processing) because the embassy herself is waiting on further information or instruction as regarding your mum's visa decision .

2. Your mum's overstayed back in 2020 might have been given another meaning (not covid related) by the embassy , thereby trying to see if they should impose the 181 days unlawful presence (overstayed) attracts 3 yrs visa ban.

4. Another angle is that if your mum has visited one or two of her children , then the embassy might be doing background checks on the children (s) as well as your mum's activities while in the USA.

5. In all, providing the correct and required items / information (s) required according to the 221g slip promptly and accurately can speed up your mum's administrative processing.

6. Keep eyes on your mum's email and usually check spam mails because you should not miss any correspondence at this time . Your only option is to keep praying and wait till November . 221g administrative process can be indefinite but the embassy is working on it.

I'll keep trying. I knew someone with understanding of the situation would reply.
Yeah, we should get the new DS-2019 in the coming days as ECFMG already stated that it has been issued. So, it's just for the programe to send it and like you mentioned i do plan to get it before leaving here. Like you correctly stated, the current one expires at the end of June and she already has her offer letter which I didn't think i would need but would make a copy of based on your suggestion.
I actually thought about that and i seem to still be interested in life in Nigeria against my wife's wishes just in the event anything goes wrong. I studied engineering and my COREN still dey intact.
Once again, thank you.

PS; the other ITK guy, i worked out of state for many months last year as an independent adjuster. Pay was about $3k weekly after tax ( not too bad for a puppet like me to climb roofs for). So, it's not a must you live with your wife all year round.
OGA! Visa did not expire more than 40 months ago, we haven't even spent 36months here. They gave 1 year visa and we renew DS-2019, EAD and drivers licenses yearly.
My son is in school and my wife doesn't need to travel to Nigeria with me. She sef get her work nau? So, as my Papa die make all of us just carry our kaya dey go Naija?

3. I see. Your 48 months was quoting drop-box eligibility. Anyways , a king was once killed by his chiefs as a result of his inability to expound on his directives (words).

Hi, I suggest that you ignore the last poster. He is well-known here for these types of antics. He does not realize that international medical graduates (IMGs) doing a US residency can do their residency on a J1 or H1B. He also does not know that IMG residents can get a Conrad waiver to waive the 2yr home residency requirement. It is very easy for anyone to copy and paste from a website onto Nairaland and sound like they know what they are talking about. It is harder to understand the nuances of the visa information that is contained on those websites. This is often where the last poster gets stuck.

I was never on a J2 but I did my masters and PhD on F1 and residency and a fellowship on J1.

Regarding availability of dates in Nigeria, this issue seems to be common. If you read some pages back, folks have discussed this and how they eventually got over this. It seems it takes a couple of days to a few weeks to get a date confirmation. You may also want to email the consulate in Abuja or Lagos and inform them of your situation and see if they can help expedite this.

Since it appears that you qualify for an IW in Nigeria, you may not need any docs but I suggest that you have your DS2019 that shows you are in valid status as a dependent of a J1 holder and preferably a letter from your wife’s program director showing that she is still in residency (similar to an employment verification letter), and her paystubs may be helpful. Since you have an EAD, I presume that you are working. If you are working, you should have proof of your employment, SSN, and paystubs.

I never renewed in Nigeria. I always renewed in Canada or Mexico. Those are alternative locations.

My only concern is that since you wife is about to start a fellowship, It probably means that her residency finishes on 6/30. If your interview is between now and 6/30, a VO reviewing a renewal application with a DS2019 that shows an end date of 6/30 (2 months away) may find this problematic. Does she have a DS2019 from the fellowship program? If she has the new DS2019 from the new program, then make sure you take that along with her appointment letter showing a start date of 7/1 (the date most fellowships start). and the new end date (probably 6/30/26)

Also, since your visa expired less than 48 months ago but your wife is on a J1 which was for three years, it means you were probably on another visa before the J2 or your wife was on a J1 in another program before residency and you were her J2 dependent then. Either way, just make sure that you have the right immigration paperwork to account for the visa and period before residency. Those are the kinds of things that may lead an applicant to be called in for a 221g interview.

Lastly, visa renewals are never guaranteed. Although renewals are likely to be approved, especially if there is nothing adverse in your immigration history, there is always a non-zero percentage that your application will be rejected. Nobody wants to hear this but consider what you will do if your renewal application is rejected and you can’t go back to the US immediately. Good luck!

Hey 🤠

@Johnsick

1. Stop advertising counterfeit profiles . In your own views, does your write up connote or denote of that of a PhD holder ?

2. PhD holder from the USA who has not contributed any meaningful progress to Nairaland . PhD holder who has not even initiate publicly on Nairaland any major development and human communication research on NL.

3. Bunkum grammars and fake achievement is the hallmark of all of you , easier said than done . When last did we read visa success transcripts on Nairaland ? Upon all your WhatsApp, Facebook and hiding groups which you and your cabals have created ?

4. Cover your face with both hands . Most of what you wrote there are from my piece . You together with the OP are pupils mixing up F1 /F2 visa procedures with J1/J2.

You are just a funny human being, I have never mentioned anything about F1 in any of my posts.
You don’t need to argue or be abusive, I just wanted to know if there’s any reason I am seeing appointments not available and I believe I am eligible for a Dropbox in Nigeria because I left just about 3 years ago in fact less than 3 years ago
Nothing contradictory!
What’s the problem Sir?
Residency in IM is 3 years and Nephrology fellowship is 2 years starting from July 1.
What’s the issue? I have my EAD and I work here so? It’s my family and I’m fine with whatever comes out of it.

Hey 🤠

*** You just registered your account today. Its either you want an exigency way out for your situation or you have a negative mission .

1. You as a J2 visa holder is subject to your wife as the principal applicant on J1.

2. You together with your wife must be living together in the USA as J1/J2 couples (a must).

3. What happens to your wife's J1 visa automatically happens to your J2 visa (both visa is like a woman with pregnancy - unborn baby).

4. You wrote that your J2 visa expires less than 48 months ago ( let's say 40 months ) which means your wife's J1 visa has expired from the same period .

5. You and your wife have been living illegally out of status for the past let's say 3 years .

6. 90% of J1/J2 visas stipulates that you must go back to your country immediately upon the expiration of your program (30 days of grace) and must reside in your country for straight 2 years b4 you can make attempt to reapply for J1 or J2 or any other visa like B1/B2.

7. Did she process the Havard fellowship before the expiration of her J1 visa ? If yes , then you are the unborn-baby in your wife's belly. The visa she is going to use for Havard will automatically applies to you or too easy for you to change to because havard University and the US government knows that she brought you into the USA and you must be cohabiting (living) together as J2 rules stipulates.

7. But I am 100% doubting her possibility of Havard fellowship if her J1 visa expires 40 months ago. Let's assume its true , why do you need Nigeria drop box ? Don't you get? Definitely your wife on Harvard fellowship also needs renewal . Mennnn. Your story is not straight .

@oyotunjiUSA, I don’t know you Sir and I wonder how you can authoritatively tell me of my case.
Like I requested, people who are in the know of my situation can please help when they are ready.
You having a J2 doesn’t in any way mean you can’t travel without your J1 spouse.
Being in the US for 3 years under J2 status is not illegal in any way. My spouse is about to finish the first 3 years of residency next month and has been admitted into Harvard for another 2years of fellowship.
I have a DS-2019 and EAD that are both valid. It is renewed every year right here in the US.
If you can’t contribute positively pls just skip the question.
For your information, people renew J1/J2 visas anywhere outside of the US and they usually use Mexico and Canada. I only decided to use Nigeria because I have a valid reason to be in Nigeria and didn’t want to go through the stress of going to Canada or Mexico and the fact that my Dad’s death was sudden.

Hey 🤠

** You came to ask questions but you have turned to expert overnight . You are a traveling agent who is on a brick wall . Don't push those clients into the pit.

OR

** You went as a handbag / J2- dependent visa under your wife and things did not go well and you went your way until you are out of status .

1. For trainees, J1 visa is 18 months.

2. For interns and Exchange Visitors in the hospitality field, it's 12 months.

3. For professors and research scholars, J-1 visas maximum is 5 years.

4. Which one did your wife fall into ? ?

AND

5. IF your wife J1-visa is subject to the 2-year home residency requirement (which is usually 80% ) then your wife cannot do a Change of Status to F1 inside the US and your Havard fellowship story is fake .

5. Your story is 100% contradictory .Acceptance rate for Havard fellowship is 3%. People should beware of your stories.

Hey 🤠

1. You posted question in a public forum which i responded to as my right . Even if your wife got admitted into Cambride i can still teach both of you various visa rules . You are just a student in the United States.

2. J1 visa is a USA government exclusively initiated visas with strong rules . Why are you asking about drop-boxing when you have successfully being renewing your J2 cripple visa via DS- 2019 ?

3. Truth is bitter , let's wait and read from the experts who will come and write otherwise. Say the truth about your current illegal standings in the USA. You cannot renew or extend that your J2 in Nigeria .

4. As a J2-visa holder , you will continue as a puppet of your wife (on J1-visa) and if your new Harvard admission is genuine then her visa benefit also extends to you except if you are trying a trick that cannot work behind your wife.

Hi Guy's, Thanks to y’all that take time out to help people here.
I’m currently in the US on a J-2 and plan to come home for my Dad’s funeral, I filled my DS-160 some days ago but all I’ve been seeing is “there are currently no available appointments’.
Is there a way to get around that?
Also, I think I’m eligible for a Dropbox as my visa expired less than 48months ago but I also haven’t gotten any confirmation email based on what I’ve read that one will get that first if eligible.
Do you think changing the venue from Lagos to Abuja might be of any help?

Hey 🤠

1. You are not the real person in this situation , and if you are the person, then you don't understand the kind of visa you got .

2. USA J2 visa is a dependent of J1 visa holder and J1/J2 visa holders must return to their country of origin after the J1 (main applicant) program. Not only that, you must stay in your country of origin for straight 2 years without traveling abroad ( J1 visa holder and USA govt agreement) or applying for USA visa that can springboard you for PR.

3. Although, you can apply for the waiver of the compulsory 2 years - stay at home policy but you can only do that while in the USA or apply for extension of J2 visa if you can prove awaiting danger at home etc .

4. You are already illegal in the USA and i doubt if the USA embassy will take you serious again because you have only 30 days to stay behind after your J2 visa expiration.

5. Your question here is like trying to renew J2 visa in Nigeria via drop box while you are still in the USA . Pick your Nigerian P and come home , you don't need any visa for that. The main J1 visa holder can't even renew the J1 visa from Nigeria not to talk of J2. You are late my friend .

I applied with my family, wife and 2 kids 2017 with no travel experience we were all refused, I applied alone 2018, I was refused, the last question the consular asked was have u travel outside your country and i said Dubai, she said no and refuse, then i build my travel history, 2022 traveled alot to many countries including 4 schengen countries and some others, and she asked same question that have i traveled before which i listed 6 counties for her, but one thing that struct me, she asked for my wife twice and i told her i couldn't secure appointment for her, but we both travel to those countries. and she said congratulation am approving ur visa and gave me collection slip. so was surprise to see a reschedule appointment

Hey 🤠

** Personally Deduced .

1. In summary. Your previous visa refusals were kind of based on lack of travel experiences and the USA embassy has kept that record .

** After the above , 2 scenarios might have happened.

A. The last consular who interviewed you this year (2024) had actually interviewed you b4 (which is against USA consular policy - hence, your 221g re- appointment) and gave you pass mark based on your (refusal records) ability to have broken the travel history .

B. The last consular who interviewed you this year is a fresh consular but he/she only checked your (refusal) record and gave you pass mark based on your ability to have traveled to 6 countries.

2. Now, the consular who gave you the pass mark needed to write a rationale for your approval which must be reviewed by their supervisors.

3. The supervisor (s) reluctantly agreed that "Okay you have traveled to 6 countries which is fine but " Come and tell me again, what are you actually going to do in the USA ? Do you have enough funds because we have recalculated your possible expenditures ? Where are your nuclear-family (one of your top home-ties) ? Are they still in Nigeria ?

4. Work on the number 3 above, that's what the next consular will ask you and by God's grace you will have your visa stamping (if there is no other hiding stuffs).

5. You owe me a bottle of ROMANÉE-CONTI
