One day Nigerians will realise just how destructive to one's international image constant directives like these are. And maybe then they'd start demanding good governance from their leaders to avoid such global ridicule. But I mean, some of them still want to eat corn in the morning and evening and join the army and are planning to vote in that direction this Saturday so I'm not holding my breath.

Travel / Guzape, Abuja by Oysters(m): 12:47pm On Jan 29, 2023
I was in guzape, Abuja recently and one thing I noticed was the consistent terrible broadband internet connection in the area. For a place considered high value by Nigerian standards it'ss really shocking to see this level of poor internet connection. I've been told most of the residents living in the area only bother themselves with fibre optic internet and that's really saying something. For anyone living in that area please do you mind filling me in on why this is so?

Politics / PVC: INEC Projects 95million Voters For 2023 Elections by Oysters(m): 2:04pm On Jul 16, 2022
The ongoing Continuous Voters Registration would officially end on July 31, 2022, the Independent National Electoral Commission said on Friday.

The commission announced the extension after deliberations on some concerns around the exercise among other issues.

INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, announced in a statement in Abuja.

According to him, the commission projected 95 million voters for the 2023 poll.

Okoye said the commission decided against a judgment delivered by the Federal High Court on Wednesday, July 13, 2022, in which it dismissed the suit filed by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project which was seeking an extension of the exercise beyond June 2022.

The commission had previously extended the June 30 deadline but did not stipulate when the exercise would officially end.

Okoye however said the Court had now affirmed that INEC was at liberty to appoint a date of its choice to suspend the CVR provided it was not later than 90 days before the date fixed for the general election as provided in Section 9(6) of the Electoral Act 2022.

He said with the judgment of the Federal High Court, all legal encumbrances had been removed.

He said, “In compliance with the interim injunction of the court pending the determination of the substantive suit, and to enable more Nigerians to register, the commission continued with the CVR beyond June 30, 2022. For this reason, the CVR has already been extended beyond June 30, 2022, for 15 days.

‘’With the judgment of the Federal High Court, all legal encumbrances have now been removed. Accordingly, the Commission has taken the following decisions:

‘’The CVR is hereby extended for another two weeks until Sunday, July 31 2022, thereby bringing the total duration of the extension to 31 days (1st – 31st July 2022).

‘’The exercise has also been extended to eight hours daily from 9.00 am – 5.00 pm instead of the current duration of six hours (9.00 am – 3.00 pm) daily; the exercise is also extended to include weekends (Saturdays and Sundays) as against only weekdays.’’

Okoye said although the timeframe might be tight for many prospective registrants, there was a lot that the Commission was required to do under the electoral legal framework about voter registration and compilation of the register that will require time to accomplish.

He said the commission would undertake clean-up of the register to remove multiple registrants using the Automated Biometric Identification System.

Okoye added that the commission would also consolidate the national register of voters and display the same on a Polling Unit basis for each of the 8,809 Registration Areas (Wards) across the 774 Local Government Areas nationwide for public scrutiny.

Politics / APC Paid Me To Endorse Tinubu – Singer Portable by Oysters(m): 10:56pm On Jul 13, 2022
Street-pop artiste, Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, has revealed that he was paid to endorse the All Progressive Congress’ presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

Portable had come under fire on social media after declaring support for APC in the upcoming Osun State governorship election on his Instagram page.

In the video posted on Wednesday, he also asked Nigerians to vote for Tinubu in the 2023 presidential election.

Portable, however, fired back at his critics, saying he was only doing his job, as the ruling party had paid him to support its candidates.

In a new video posted on Wednesday, the Zazuu crooner who said he was once paid to insult Tinubu, revealed that he has changed his tune because he was paid by the APC.

“If they pay you money, you have to work. I was once paid to insult Tinubu during the protests. That was a long time ago. Now, APC has said Akoi Tinubu.

“If they pay you, do your job, no ripping. When I was asked to insult Tinubu, I collected my money and did my job. Now Tinubu is the next. They’re the ones that gave me money, and I must do the work for the money I collected. Akoi APC,” he said in Yoruba.
