The Ikeja High Court Yesterday 8th March 2019 sentenced to death by hanging Lekan Shonde (52), a dock worker who killed his wife Ronke(36) a banker at their residence in Egbeda, Lagos, three years ago.
Justice Josephine Oyefeso while presenting the Judgement found him guilty of a one count charge brought against him by the Lagos State Government.

The case has been in court since 2016 and finally came to rest yesterday with the verdict of Justice Oyefeso which was captured thus, "the act was intentionally done. I find the defendant guilty". She further proclaimed from her legal high throne "In line with section 223 of Criminal law of Lagos 2015, this is the sentence of the court upon you, Olelekan Shonde, that you are to hang by the neck until you are dead. May the Lord have Mercy on you".

THE GENESIS
Mr and Mrs. Olelekan lived on Tiemo close, off Awori Street, in Egbeda Idimu area and their marriage of Eight years was blessed with a Boy(6) and a girl(4). They were a perfect happy contented couple, so was the picture that even Neighbors and Church members saw perfection in their union.
However, the Shonde's perfect bubble got busted on May 6th,2016 when their Nanny Sola Adamo lekan who normally came around to prepare their kids for school showed up at her normal time of 6am and pounded severally on the front door of the upstair flat of the couple and got no response. In an interview she claimed this was was strange because Madam normally opened the door for her with only a slight knock from her each time she came and she knew Oga was not around because he leaves by 5am every morning for his Dock work. On this fateful however she went downstairs to ask their neighbor about the Family as no one was responding to her loud knock, it was while she was speaking with the neighbor that the Oldest Child of the family called out to her and told her that his Mother refused to wake up.

THE REVELATION
The door was forced open by the Police who were contacted by the neighbors when it became obvious that all the mad pounding was not waking Ronke up, on entrance she was discovered face up and lifeless on the ground of their Living room.
Mr. Olelekan Shonde who later handed himself over to the police three days after the discovery of his wife's corpse confessed that he had only slapped Ronke from behind a day before her corpse was found, his confession went thus, "On May 5th,2016, I heard my wife speaking to someone on the telephone saying, 'Kayode you are sweet; what did you use in sleeping with me', I got furious and slapped her from behind, she fell as a result of the slap then later stood up and apologized to me before going into the bathroom to take her bath". Mr. Olelekan went on to say that he saw her on the couch with her phone beside her the next morning and just dropped her Transport money for her as usual then locked the door with his own key without suspecting anything was wrong.
In subsequent interviews, Olelekan revealed that he ran away upon hearing the news of his wife demise because his father had advised him to stay away for fear that people might attack him.

THE JUDGEMENT
Justice Josephine Oyefeso in sentencing Shonde to death took Judicial cognizance of the analysis of the Pathologist Dr. Shokunle Shoyemi, that examination revealed old and fresh injuries on Ronke. Justice Oyefeso affirmed that the bruises on the deceased cheeks, blood collection in her brain, swollen brain and other multiple injuries could not have been self inflicted injuries. In view of this, she stated that the defendant was very economical with the truth when he said that he only slapped her when he overheard her phone conversation with a lover, his claim does not match the degree of autopsy report.

It was in view of the above findings that Justice Oyefeso held that Section 223 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 prescribed that the person who commit murder shall be sentenced to Death.

What more can we say... We only wish that the good lord have Mercy on Olelekan Shonde and give the two kids of these tragic couple the stamina to confront society and the muscle to survive without the love and comfort of their parents...

The Automobile Industry is stepping technology up a notch with recent electric car inventions. These cars run on electricity generated by rechargeable batteries instead of petroleum and has friendly sound emissions instead of the angry revving, howling combustion engine sound that petroleum cars emit.

Automobile heavyweights like BMW, Mercedes - Benz, Audi, Mini and VW are warming up to launch these battery driven Vehicles into an already hungry market. Frank Welsch the head of Technical Development in Volkswagen told Reuters that "The Electric Vehicle sound is it's Identity. It can not be too intrusive or annoying. It has to be futuristic and it cannot sound like anything we had in the past. We can not simply add the sound of a combustion engine". He further added that these electric cars will have speakers designed to draw attention of pedestrians.

Mercedes-Benz on the other hand has developed an artificial humming sound for it's EQC model electric car, the sound is loud enough to warn pedestrians that the vehicle is approaching but not disturb its passengers.

Now while these automobile giants are wrapping up these electric cars with sounds that will be entertaining and warning, Ladies and Gentlemen take a field trip into the future with us.... A world where you just park your car after a stressful day at work then plug it into the Wall socket in your Garage, In the morning after a motivating breakfast all you have to do is unplug your car and zoom off without worries about the petroleum level... No quick drive in to the petrol station... No fear of long queue at fuel stations.... Sounds sweet right??

Except that in a country like Nigeria if you don't have Car Battery Power Banks which will be on sale very soon, you might just end up stranded in the middle of a "WaZoBia" rain forest with no electricity in sight.. The recent news on the deportation of about 723 Nigerians by the Ghana Immigration Service over the 2018/2019 period has gotten Nigerians screaming foul. According to the Nigerian High Commissioner to Ghana Mr. Abikoye Micheal in January 2019 alone, a total of 196 Nigerians have been deported, 81 individuals were deported for alleged cyber crime and illegal stay while 115 were deported on allegation of overstay and prostitution.

However before we start pointing accusing fingers, I will like to take us to a flash back scene from 1983 when Shehu Shagari was the then president of a better Nigeria. Then there was an executive order that immigrants especially Ghanaians without proper immigration documents should leave Nigeria immediately or get arrested , over 1 million Ghanaians were affected by this order and Nigerians chanted "Ghana Must Go" as these Ghanaians left frustrated with their large bags on their head and their little ones lined up behind them with wounded expression on their black faces.

Now, before you are quick to judge Nigeria it is good you bear in mind that in 1969, Ghana enacted the Aliens Compliance order in which hundreds of thousands of immigrants most of which were Nigerian were forcefully expelled from the country. So you see it's Ghana - 2 and Nigeria - 1, two goals to one..

Jussie Langston Mikha Smollet aged 36 and popularly known for his portrayal of musician Jamal Lyon in the Fox drama series 'Empire' has recently been on the trending mill for all the wrong reasons.
Jussie Smollet who is an American actor, singer, director and photographer was on January 29, 2019 attacked around 2:00am in the 300 block of East Lower North Water Street in Chicago's Streetville neighborhood by two men in ski masks who made racial and homophobic slurs as they hit him and finally poured bleach on him while tying a noose around his neck.

Initial speculations were that the attackers were white considering that Smollet alleged that they had said "This is MAGA country", MAGA being Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" 2016 campaign slogan hence the attackers were labeled Trump's supporters.

However the drama got twisted when on February 15th the Chicago police released a statement that Empire actor Jussie Smollet paid two men to orchestrate the assault on himself.

While we were still reeling from the implications of this accusation, the said fiasco got more confusing the two men were identified as two Nigerian brothers by name Olabinjo and Abimbola Osundairo.

With this new development some individuals that initially sympathized with Smollet started packing up their sympathy kit and some even went further to criticize him for playing on their emotion, anyways before we conclude our anti-sympathy campaign the Chicago Police Department on Sunday 17th February released a statement that the two Nigerian brothers who were being questioned in the Smollet attack have been released without any charges due to new evidence uncovered and claimed they needed to interrogate the actor for more details.

At this point we are left panting for breath, the race to catch up with the curves and sharp turns of this case is leg breaking. The question now running through our minds at this point is ' if Jussie Smollet is another victim of a system that is quick to judge coloured folks and put their actions under intensive scrutiny with an outcome that is often influenced by the sentiment that black is rough and evil?'

This and many other questions haunt our logical minds while we await yet another twist in this case that might answer our questions, we pray this is not a conspiracy game coupled up to make the victim become the villain.

One thing is certain though, it is not easy to be gay and black in a society that spits at the phrase 'sexual fluidity' or don't appreciate the philosophy of "We are one despite skin color or racial background".

DavidAdedeji Adeleke, better known by his stage name Davido has been trending on Twitter since Yesterday February 14th 2019 for two major reasons; First is his recent active involvement in politics and second is his 'smack ass' clip with Chioma his Lover.

Now, in view of the fact that Nigerians are about to decide their future barely 24hours from now it might interest you to understand why it is paramount to kill the debate on if Davido was right to smack his lovers ass in public view or not, rather our energy should be channeled to commending his bold stride into the Nigerian political landscape and his solid support for the PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar.

This move is uncommon in the Nigerian Entertainment industry where our celebrities are more focused on IPhone Tweeting about their latest personal achievements and latest song release, our malnourished democracy is not their headache because it doesn't affect their bookings and show schedules.

Another individual worth applauding is Olubankole Wellington popularly known by stage name Banky W, on November 11, 2018 he declared his intention to run for the Lagos state 'Eti Osa Federal Constituency seat in Nigeria' s House of Representatives on the platform of Modern Democratic Party. He is one of the few entertainers who has utilized their popularity to advocate for a better Nigeria.

With the clock gradually tick tocking to the judgement day, Nigerians especially our youths should embrace the example set by Davido and Banky W. It is not enough to tweet, Facebook and whatsapp your opinions from behind the safety of your Androids and IPhones, Action is required of you. Grab your PVC's and go contribute your own ink to history, it doesn't matter if you don't rewrite history but let it be on record that you made an attempt.
