Songs of my Country is an EP containing 7 songs which describe what it is like to be a Nigerian. I particularly like the tracks Long Road to Nowhere and Stomach Infrastructure. It was recorded by a group of young Nigerians caller Cactus Town Crew. You can listen on YouTube https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_krKobX8H8U5Q_DIAP2Su6Hbg_wRLfKBGo&si=GrIMM3TFTduvs2xt

Stephen0mozzy:
Even in analysis of earning power against purchasing power, the naira is STILL useless. Let's call a spade a spade. Make una no dey formm rubbhesh patriot.

The dollar you're talking about, at an average of $17/hr; that 17dollars can get you a decent lunch or some groceries ( so you can work one 8hr-day and and be able to feed yourself for almost 4 days - in Nigeria, at minimum wage of #70k (#2,500 per day, roughly #300 per hour - #300 can only buy you two coaster biscuits of 4pieces each).

So if you're calculating, be detailed.
$17 / hr is $11/hr in your pocket after tax so assuming you have no other deductibles eg health insurance. By the time you pay rent and transportation related costs you’ll find that the only place you can buy your groceries is Walmart. A decent lunch will certainly set you back more than $17 unless you going to McDonald for food I wouldn’t feed to my dog.

TravelRe: US Stops Green Card, Citizenship Applications For Nigerians by pafun(m): 3:54pm On Dec 20, 2025
miracle002:
The United States has placed a temporary halt on Green Card and citizenship applications linked to Nigerians.

This action follows a new expansion of Washington’s immigration restrictions and affects several other countries recently added to a broader travel control policy.

The suspension targets legal immigration filings, including applications for permanent residency and naturalisation.

Many of those affected are Nigerians already living in the United States who were in the process of adjusting their status or applying to become citizens.

Under the new directive, immigration authorities have stopped processing petitions from nationals of countries covered by the latest travel restrictions.

This includes both full bans and partial entry limits, depending on the country involved.

Nigeria is among the countries facing partial restrictions. As a result, immigration-related requests tied to Nigerian nationals are now subject to the pause, creating uncertainty for families, workers, and students awaiting decisions on their applications.

Other African countries impacted by the policy include Benin, Senegal, Ghana, Gambia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and Côte d’Ivoire, among others.

Some nations face complete entry bans, while others, like Nigeria, are under limited restrictions that still affect immigration processing.

The move is part of a wider immigration clampdown introduced in recent weeks. Authorities have also frozen asylum decisions and halted the processing of certain visa and immigration requests from specific nationalities.

US officials say the decision is linked to a security review of immigration systems.

According to the immigration agency, “USCIS is conducting a comprehensive review of anyone from anywhere who poses a threat to the US, including those identified in the President’s latest proclamation to restore law and order in our nation’s immigration system.”

Taken together, the latest policy changes affect a large portion of African countries and several nations in Asia and other regions. Analysts estimate that more than half of Africa is now impacted in one form or another.

The development has sparked strong reactions among Nigerians at home and abroad. Many have criticised the decision, describing it as unfair and damaging to long-standing diplomatic and people-to-people ties between Nigeria and the United States.

Concerns have also been raised about the economic and social impact of the suspension, especially for families separated by immigration delays and professionals whose careers depend on legal residency status.

Former senator, Shehu Sani, reacted to the development, describing it as “a clear signal that migrants from developing countries are no longer welcome.”

HealthRe: Why Do People Keep Smoking Even Though They Know It's Harmful? by pafun(m): 10:00pm On Sep 20, 2025
Professor007:
I don't smoke, but also I don't look down on people who smoke.

But still, I can't help but wonder: what's so addictive about smoking? And why do people still choose to smoke up on all the warnings and health risks?

Just the other day I came across an empty pack of cigarettes. Lo and behold, they've graduated from just writing "smokers are liable to die young" to know using graphic images of a severely cigarette-damaged lung. All this in a to dissuade people from smoking.

So, my question is, why do people still smoke when the disadvantages are so glaring?
You can never understand grin grin grin
PoliticsRe: Passport Fee Now Higher Than Minimum Wage – Peter Obi Blasts FG by pafun(m): 6:53pm On Aug 31, 2025
Brendaniel:
You are still mixing things up, whether by the hour or by the minute, the total monthly minimum wage if calculated by the hours worked in Nigeria daily from 9 to 5 is far more than the monthly minimum wage in Nigeria.

Why don't you come back to Nigeria and come and be earning the minimum wage, why did you run abroad ?

You guys are wicked and heartless...
Sorry if you feel that way. Regardless though, if it is anyone’s intention to go work abroad, the $65 cost of passport will be the least of their problems. Visas and air travel costs don’t fall from heaven. Have a great week.

It looks like you are mixing up issues here, what has intentions got to do with pay?

any person can decide what he wants to do with his money, the question is can his monthly do with he wants to do?

You cannot compare the monthly minimum pay of an average American to a Nigerian average worker, this is not about traveling out, I only used the illustration to show how far the disparity has become especially under Tinubu's government...
There is no such thing as monthly minimum pay. Everyone gets paid by the hour. If you worked 4 hours this month you get paid for 4 hours even if the reason is illness. You are in fact luckier in Nigeria because you will get paid your agreed monthly wages if got fall sick.

Some people work up to 3 jobs here in Nigeria and can't still afford local flight ticket, are you saying they are not hardworking enough?
I don’t know what you are talking about. What I am saying is , contrary to your belief the “average “ US worker cannot afford to travel anywhere even though he works 2 or 3 jobs just to be able to pay his bills . He doesn’t even have a passport and has no reason or desire to obtain one. It is us in Naija that make a big thing out of things that are not essential.
PoliticsRe: Passport Fee Now Higher Than Minimum Wage – Peter Obi Blasts FG by pafun(m): 9:39pm On Aug 29, 2025
Brendaniel:
An average worker in the U.S can travel out for holiday with just his salary, today a professor in Nigeria can't even purchase flight ticket with his salary for flight to travel out and there are people supporting this nonsense here because Tinubu is their man...

Tinubu's presidency really exposed a lot in Nigeria...
An average person working in the US works 2 jobs to be able to pay all his bills and has never in his life stepped outside his country . Shut your mouth from talking what you don’t know.

Calculate your minimum wage against your international passport and you'll see that your rulers are wicked people.
What does minimum wage have to do with this. If you are poor why do you need a passport since you don’t have money to travel anywhere?

You go wail tire. There's nothing pastors can do to please your type. So, wail on.
Bros take it easy , some of the comments are quite valid. My first encounter with Jerry Eze was just last Sunday after my Uber driver told me about how great he is. Interestingly I was on the way to church that morning. On that day I listened to 3 different pastors on the internet, and Eze was one of them. While two left me with a sense of hope and a feeling of renewed self-confidence, all I got from Eze's ministry was an incredible amount of noise - from the choir, the prayer minister and the chief pastor Eze himself. His was all so heavy on miracles preaching and lacking scriptures. The encounter left me feeling sad and violated. It is okay really, there must definitely be a lot of people out there, who love chasing miracles otherwise pastors such as this will not be doing well. Good luck to him, his investors and his followers.
