Hello Pamdaniel.. cudos for the nice job you are doing here.. I'm really interested in this farming method.. I reside in Port Harcourt and I'm considering leasing a piece of land for this purpose.. pls I have a few questions.. (1) how much capital do I need to start something small? (2) What are the factors I need to consider when choosing the area of land? (3) what other crops can I combine with Cocumber using this method? (4) Do you think I can conbine this method of farming with my regular job?? Please I need all the advice.. I'm not an agriculturist nor an Agric student.. just want to try my hands on farming.. I've always loved it.
nice questions dear missoptimist... I would begin by answering your questions by letting u know that I am a graduate of philosophy and not a professor in agriculture... I read some where on internet that a professional journalist can be a specialist in agriculture so like wise your self... agriculture is mans treasure and a gift from God to enable him eat... dust to dust... and dust to mouth... so any person can farm irrespective of your profession... I encourage u...question 4... yes u can combine my method of farming with any other job. reasons: (a)u have lesser work to do (b) u have no reason to be seen in ur farm in the morn and afternoon after planting unless u just want to take a tour u would only water at evenings and spray chemicals at evening... why only at evening? pesticides would chase away pollinators from your farm as well as other pest and u know pollinators come at morning so praying chemicals is advised at evening... I can bet u that this method of farming is scientific and enjoyable... question 3... I don't see any reason why u would plant cucumber with any other crop on same spot but u could divide ur portion into two and use one for cucumber and use the other for ur desired crop...question 2... I Guess u want to use the method showcased con this thread right? then there is no choice of land or soil type... u can make use of slope areas, plant on main roads, on roof tops, and on tiles so far ur crops are exposed to sunlight... u can import food loam soil from any where to the your desired space.... so the only condition for choosing your desired space is that it must be exposed to sun... question 1... I would give u a rough estimate for one plot of land then u can multiply to your desired number of plots u intend farming on... my estimate would be on a 50ft by 100ft measurement land space... on a plot u would need 1200 bags at which you would be planting 3600 seeds... DAT is 72grams... let's say u have a plot of land and water source this is the estimate u would need... seeds = #10k
bags sold at 2naira per bag or u can get it for free= #2k4
fertilizer 4k
chemicals 10k
if u dont have soil u can get one trip of soil 8k
6k to fill it in and arrange it
6k for staking approximately 45k for aplot plus minus... and each 5grams can get u 2-3 bags... a bag could be 4k or 5k even more than... from that one plot u could get close to 30bags and u are making nothing less than 150k... sounds interesting right... we plant God gives the yield despite knowledge... missoptimist hope you are satisfied with my answers?

Where can such soil type be gotten from? 3. What are the irrigation procedures and methods/timing? 4. What type of fertilizer should be applied, when and how should it be applied? 5. How should weed be controlled on the plot of land where the sacks are kept?

Cassava seems to be his interest, and in ondo, there arent much cucumber farmer, didn't even know of any cucumber farm in ondo state, but he is surrounded by cassava far all around. So, its understandable what he chooses, and who told u cassava farming takes 2 years?

I have been thinking all this while of a way out, I have try so many things, some were successful and some were not. I realise after a lot of research and personal thinking that the only way out is to invest in agriculture, as much as I would love to start a large farming of cocoa, palm, rice and the like because of the profits level, I know it demand big start, thus I will like to settled for CASSAVA.

Am here once and am back no, as a novice, but interested farm, soliciting for help, assistance and more information to kick start. What can I do so as not to regret doing this.

Am in Akure, Ondo State capital, I will be ready to go any where not to far away to start, my hope for 2017 is on having a farm to start my agriculture investment. All sort of assistance, help and information will be welcome.
