When everyone took a sip of their wine, I knew it was time to talk.

Me: Uhm. First of all, let me start by apologising to everyone here for the bad blood hanging in the air.

They all stared at me and I knew I got them where I wanted.

Me: It's nobody's fault that things got this bad between us, I'll say that God has a reason for planting what happened a couple of years ago. If we had been close, maybe we all wouldn't be this successful, maybe we would have been facing lots of difficulties now and we may still end up splitting. What am I saying? Let's stop this quarrels, please, it's not helping us. We're all adults now and we should stop the fights. I know whatever happened was really bad but then, how long would we fight ourselves over what happened years ago?

I stopped and allowed my words sink in. I looked at Lois and she had her head bent.

Me: Bestie?

Lois looked up at me.

Me: I know you're looking out for me, you want the best for me, I know. But please, let bygones be bygones. Isn't it wonderful that luck gave us an opportunity to meet again? Why? So we can make amends. Please my love, I .......

Lois: Hey! Don't you think you're talking too much already?

I frowned and noticed Amber stare at Lois in shock. Franca's face wasn't readable because she had her head bent.

Lois: Calling me your love is totally not acceptable because that is meant for William.

I hissed and wanted to throw my pillow at her but I decided against it, so as to hear the rest of what she had to say.

Amber: Babe eh!

Lois: I'm serious o. She left her love at the party and she's here to baptise me. Anyways, Franca?

Franca looked up, tears running down her cheeks like a runway.
What she did next surprised me because she knelt down and began to cry loudly.

Franca: Forgive me. I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to ....

Lois: What is she saying? Stand up joor.

Amber: Babe, it's okay. I really don't know you but no matter what it is, so long as this two angels have said it's cool, then, it's cool. Stop embarrassing us

Lois: Right. She doesn't know I'm allergic to tears.

Lois stood up and pulled her up, then embraced her warmly.

Lois: If Pamela says it's fine, then it's fine. I'm only trying to protect the interest of this fine girl here.

Franca: I'm sorry. So sorry.

Before we know it, we were all in a hug, promising heaven and earth and all good promises. That's what friends do right?

I looked at the time and it was past 1am. But the girls didn't look like they were ready to sleep yet. We settled to watch a movie on Africa Magic which featured Mercy Johnson and Ini Edo. And that was how we slept.



The next morning, I was woken up by the smell of something nice. I stretched and realised that I was still on the couch. I looked around and Lois was sleeping on the cushion next to mine. Amber and Franca were nowhere to be found. The smell hit me again and I stood up, unzipped the zip of the gown I had worn to the party, then took slow steps to the kitchen. They were busy, very busy. Amber was using the deep frier, while Franca was chopping cabbage. She had changed into a white singlet that stopped on her knee. Guessed it belonged to Amber. I cleared my throat and they looked at me with smiles on their faces.

Me: Morning chefs.

They giggled and replied my greeting then I went in fully.

Me: What's for breakfast?

Amber: Fried rice, salad and chicken.

Me: Hmmm. FranC suggested that right?

They giggled again and I smiled.

Me: I'll go freshen up, then come down and help you guys. Lois is still sleeping.

Lois: Says who? With all the nice smells coming from here, who wouldn't wake up?

We all laughed and did another round of greetings.

Lois: We'll join you guys soon.

She pulled me and we left the kitchen and made for the stairs.

Lois: Why don't you call Leonard? We'll all have breakfast here and go to the hospital together. What do you think?

Me: I think that you're in love with Leonard and you ....

Lois: Hey. Is it that obvious?

Me: Oops. Thank God you're not even denying it. So, does he know?

Lois: Nah. I haven't told him yet.

Me: Then I've got an assignment. Operation make Leonard fall for Lois.

She spanked my butt and I winced.

Me: I won't call him again.

Lois: Oh no. Please. Bestie please?

Me: Lemme think, you'll buy me a blue boot.

Lois: Done.

I laughed and started going to the sitting room to retrieve my purse which housed my phone. I picked it up and dialled Leonard's number. He picked it up immediately.

I got down from the car and went to her side, opened the door and asked her to come down. Without arguing, she came down.

Me: Now, let's talk.

I looked at my wristwatch, it was 11;05pm. The road was empty except for a few cars that sped by once in a while.

Me: Why are you ranting? I didn't tell you he's dead, did I?

Franca: But, what happened to him? Who shot him?

Me: His wife did.

Franca: He's married?

Me: Remember Claire?

Franca: He got married to her? How come?

Me: Let's just say, we fell out of love and then he fell with Claire. Things got cool for them and then, they decided to make the vows.

Franca: Then why shoot him?

Me: You know, she was a cultist and maybe she still is, I stopped talking to her after she started dating Tobe. Last week, Tobe came to visit a friend who lives in my estate, he was running from his wife you know. This friend of his, happens to be my neighbour so we all met, forgave ourselves and that was it. Claire came to see her husband, then she saw Lois and myself, maybe she felt threatened by my presence so she decided to do away with me for good. But her hubby took the bullet instead.

Franca: Oh my God!

Me: And now, we're going to my house, you'll meet Lois there, I'm sure you'll meet Leonard before you leave, he's William's best friend and roommate back then. Just try to forget everything that happened and let's all move on.

She was crying now and I don't even know what's the cause of her tears.

Me: We'll take you to see Tobe later. Get a hold on yourself.

Franca; I ......

Me: Just get in the car let's go.

I helped her get in before going over to my side of the car. I drove off with her sobbing beside me.

We got to the estate and it was in its usual quiet state. I drove to my zone and killed my engine in front of my house. We got down and I rang the door bell. Amber opened the door.

Amber; Hey.

We shared a quick hug before we got in. I'm sure she must be wondering why Franca's make up is in trouble or even, why I came with her because she just stared at her.

Me: Please sit down. I'll .....

Lois: What is she doing here?

She was at the stairs, coming down. Her face didn't look friendly at all. Her eyes were fixed on Franca as she gracefully came down the stairs. Franca herself got rooted on the spot she was standing.

Me; Lois

Lois: Pamela please. What is she doing here?

She marched straight to us and stood between Franca and I. Amber was still at the entrance, wondering what drama we were about playing out. She came closer after bolting the door and stood behind a couch.

Lois: Pamela, I don't know how many wrongs it will take for you to realise that you don't just trust people anyhow. After all the bad things this girl did to you, you still have the mind to bring her here?

Me: Lois, please not now.

Lois: When? This girl opened the door that brought Claire into your life. She opened the door of pains you passed through over the years. Did you tell her? Does she know how many years you had to live without a phone? Just because of the ill luck she brought to you?

Me: Maybe you're right. But then, remember, if there's no sin, there won't be any forgiveness.

Lois: Simple. You've forgiven her right? Now, ask her to get out.

Amber: Lois, calm down please. Don't take rash decisions when you're angry. Besides, it's late already. Few minutes to mid night, where will she go?

Lois: Anywhere. I don't care. Amber, you don't know how poisonous this lady is. You're only being compassionate because you believe she's stranded. But trust me, she always has a plan B. The same way her plan B was one sweet cute guy who fell into her traps.

Me: Flord. And he's late now.

Lois: Exactly my point you see? She's bad luck. She better leaves now or I'll leave.

Franca turned to me with misty eyes.

Franca: Is there any hotel around? I'll spend the night there then maybe tomorrow, you can take me to see Tobe.

Me: Please sit down, we'll trash this issue here once and for all. I'm not letting you leave this house. Amber, Lois, you all should sit please.

Lois: Not in this world am I sitting with this woman.

Me: You'll have to, for me please.

She looked at me and slumped on a couch. Amber followed, then Franca. I smiled. Who says things won't be better tonight? I left for the mini bar and got a bottle of wine and four glasses.

I found myself kissing him back until that inner conscious being brought me out from the emotional bliss I was having. I withdrew and heard something that looked like a sob. I looked at William but he had his head bent. The sobbing sound came again but this time, from behind me. I turned and it was Anna. She was crying.
I opened my mouth to speak but words failed me. I just stood there, looking at her. She walked closer to me and slapped me. It wasn't a violent slap or an angry one. It was a slap that showed her weakness, her vulnerability.

Anna: You're quiet? Say something. Advice me now. You would have just told me you wanted him. Now I see you kissing him? Pamela I hate you so much. Every atom of respect I had for you has vanished this minute. You .....

Me: What are you ........

Anna: I'm talking.

I was taken aback. I looked at William and he had a smirk on his face, like the drama going on was interesting to him.

Anna: I respected you. I broke rules because of you. I.....

Me: Shut up. Broke what rules? Rules made by this sex god of yours? This man who only sees you as a puppet? Anna ......

Anna: I know. And I love him that way. But you, you were only making plans to seduce .......

And I had to return that slap. She was talking too much now and I had to shut her up.

Me: Look at me, do I look that cheap before you? Your god here, initiated the kiss. It was only natural that I had to kiss back because of the chemistry we once had. I can't see myself falling for this cheap excuse of a guy who ......

William: Hey ....

Me; William just shut up. What am I even doing here? And listen, I only came here to tell you that Claire shot Tobe. The bullet was actually meant for either Lois or myself but I don't know how Tobe took it. He's in the hospital now, fighting for his life. And you're throwing parties. Shame unto you William.

I walked out without looking back. Thank God the papers has being signed. At least, I'll never get to see him again, at least, for a very long time. I went back upstairs to the Hall and Franca was exactly where I had left her.

Franca: You're back?

Me: Yes. Can we go now?

Franca: Sure.

We rode downstairs in silence. I don't know what was running through her mind. But for me, I was going through all that had happened back in William's room. What will Anna be doing now? And William?

We got into my car and I began the slow drive home. I didn't want to rush back because I wanted to dwell more on the incidents of tonight. At a point, I remembered I had company in the car. I looked at her and her eyes were closed.

Me: Sleeping?

She opened her eyes and smiled.

Me: Tobe was shot.

She sat up and looked at me, then she started laughing.
I was confused. Why that kind of reaction over an issue that was a matter of life and death?

Franca; Which Tobe?

Me: Tobechukwu Onuoha nau.

Franca: You're not serious. What do you mean by he was shot? How did you get the info? Where did you see him?

I parked at the side of the road and heaved a sigh. I would have just waited to get home before telling her about it
She was screaming now. Asking lots of questions that I couldn't even answer.

The elevator took me down to where I wanted to be but then, the huge question came, his room number.
I got my phone out from my purse and dialled his number. He didn't pick but he sent me a message immediately, "room no 317".
I began to walk down the hallway, looking at doors till I got to the extreme and the room was by my right. I tapped on the door and he opened it, turning back immediately. I walked in, leaving the door open. The room looked more like a honeymoon suite turned into a bachelor's lounge. He was sitting at the bar, drinking from a glass.

Me: If someone had told me that one day, I'll meet you in life and get ashamed for ever being your friend, I'll refuse that claim. William, I'm ashamed to call you my friend.

William: But we're not even friends.

He dropped his glass and stood up, then started walking towards me.

William: Look at you, all dressed up in this gown. What was the plan? To get me to notice you and get seduced? Or to show everyone here the kind of loose woman you've become over the years?

I shook my head, fighting the urge to slap him and slam a bottle on his head. He smiled and began to run his little finger on my arm. He walked behind me and stopped, then ran that same little finger on my exposed back, stopping on top of my ass where the line stopped.

William: But, I don't get all worked up for nothing. Your cheap self won't arouse me. I know your kind.

Then he came to face me again.

William: You try to use sex to cover up your wrongs but.....

Me: But I'm not like you that run after little girls who are barely of age. I'm not like you who turned into a beast just because he couldn't handle a heart break.

William: The heartbreak you caused me. And you stand there to rub my sins to my face. You caused them all.

Me: No I did not.

Our voices were now raised, each person trying hard to be heard, trying to imprint his or her words in the mind of the other.

Me: I did not turn you to all the things you are. I did not make you a sadist. I did not turn you to a love peddler. I did not make you forget the importance of friendship.

He turned away from me and sat down.

Me: I was going through hell.

William: But it didn't stop you from having sex with me

Me: We were both drunk. I came to you for company and its not my fault things ended up the way it did.

William: Yes. Including deleting all forms of communications you had.

Me: Listen, you were not expecting me to still stay in that house and wait for Claire and Tobe to return and be rubbing their relationship in my face. I had to leave. My keeping away from you guys is because I didn't want Claire or Tobe to find out where and how I'm faring. You don't expect also that I stay with you in a relationship. I won't put in my best, I won't love you in return. I'll cheat on you and you'll end up giving up on love. That is why I left. Why can't you understand that?

Every angry word I wanted to say got washed away in my quest to explain why I left. He sat there, looking at me, tongue tied I guess.

Me: Anyways, I didn't come here for this.

His gaze dropped and he stood up. He walked to me and held my arms.

William: What then?

Me: Did Leonard not tell you that Tobe was shot?

William: What?

Me: Don't give me that please. I'm sure Leonard told you about it. When I got your text about the message, we were all angry. How can you put party before your friends? William, you ......

And then, he claimed my mouth with his

Me: I welcome you all to this gathering. Lincoln Dayzee has been a great company, one I'm proud to associate with. My prayer is that we'll all keep gathering to celebrate our different successes. Cheers.

There was an applause. They couldn't expect much because I didn't prepare for any speech. I stepped aside and the lawyer spoke, asking me to read through the documents before signing them. Of course I did. i never make such mistakes. I read through and passed to my board of executives. They went through it and gave it back to me, nodding their heads like agama lizard.
I fished out my fountain pen and signed, passed to my manager and he did. My lawyer also signed before William and his crew signed. We took pictures and William and myself had to stand beside each other. The moment the picture taking ended, I slipped to the backstage immediately I saw William going towards the direction.
There were a lot of people in the back stage but I had to get him to talk privately.

Me: Excuse me?

William; Yes?

He turned to me and I noted the smile that was forming at the corner of his lips. I gave him my worst stare and his smile quickly disappeared.

Me: I want us to talk, right now.

William: Oh! I'm sorry but ......

Me: I need us to talk now. Quit this attitude of yours.

William: Let's see who's preaching attitude now.

Me: William, please I would like us to talk.

William: Better. My room is on the sixth floor. Meet me there in five.

I walked away, back to the hall, using my eyes to search for Franca. I found her just where I had left her. she was drinking from a glass and looking around. I walked to her and her eyes lit up.

Franca: What history is that which didn't permit you to hug him, despite his outstretched hands. It was obvious, very obvious.

Me: I'll explain later but now, I want to tell you something.

Franca: Go on.

Me: It's about Tobe.

She almost screamed, then got hold of herself and began to sob, the tears following immediately.

Me: Hey! What do you think you're doing?

I pulled her into the restroom and helped her with a wiper. She blew her nose and dabbed at her face.

Franca: I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. I ruined our friendship because of my silly infatuations. It took Flord's death to bring me back to my senses.

Me: Flord is dead?

She nodded and started crying all over again. I pulled her into a warm hug and tried my best to console her.
She calmed down after a bit and looked at me with questioning eyes.

Franca: What about Tobe?

Me; Wait for me in the hall. I'll join you soon. We'll crash at my house and I'll tell you everything.

She nodded. I watched her redo her makeup and we went back to the hall. I excused myself and walked out, entered the elevator and pressed 6.

The MC spoke into the microphone, his voice blasting through the hidden speakers, welcoming everyone to the party. I looked at Franca and we both stood up and began to walk to the large hall that was beautifully decorated. We stood just beside the entrance, like, we were almost the last people in the hall. The MC ushered William in and he came up to the stage, neatly dressed in a white suit and blue shirt inside. He had a new haircut, bottom line, he was his usual cute guy. I heard someone beside me gasp and I turned to see two girls. They were both fair and beautiful. They began to speak to themselves

G1: You're right. He's really cute. So finally, he fell for you

G2: I won't say that. I actually fell for him but now, I have him in my webs. He's all mine.

G1: Then, how come he didn't invite you?

G2: Well, he's a lot busy. Planning an event as big as this can make you forgetful a times.

G1: You're right. But I'm sure you noticed the little girl that was with him when we got here. I believe this guy just used you and has dumped you. Sorry

G2: You know what, I regret bringing you here. You're the worst kind of friend there is.

MC: .................. beautiful, hardworking, cute, CEO of De Bernards, Miss Pamel Bernards.

I snapped out from eavesdropping on the two girls. I had used their discussion to block out William's welcome speech. I don't even know why I'm been called. I looked at Franca as everyone turned to look for me, she hugged me and gestured for me to walk.
Over the years, I've appeared before lots and lots of crowd. My mother, my mentor, had taught me to walk with my head up. Then Lois, had taught me the catwalk that made me a figure in the business world.
Before I could put up my business smile, a path had being cleared for me to the front.

I began my graceful walk to the stage, waving at the faces I recognised like I was in a fashion show abi beauty pageant. I got to a point and stopped waving. I had seen his face. He was staring at me with surprise and fascination. I remembered why I had come, to vent my anger on him, that is, after signing the papers.

I got to the stage and ignored his outstretched hands which I'm sure he had stretched, expecting a hug.
My board of executives were already on stage and someone I guessed to be William's company lawyer was also there with files in his hands.

I had gotten an applause from the audience and it was just right to speak to them

Me: Good evening you all.......

I wanted to go to her and say hi but on a second thought, I turned and made way to where the important guests were. I greeted as I walked cause I knew most of the people there. The people I didn't know, were introduced to me and we always ended up with the phrase, "I hope we work together soon".
I would smile and move on to the next person, using my eyes to search the area for William.
Someone tapped my shoulder and immediately I turned, she enveloped me in her arms. Her small figure told me who it was and I smiled.

Anna: Good evening. You look very beautiful.

I smiled and looked at her. She was dressed in a black flowing gown. Her low cut hair had a golden spray by the side. Her make up wasn't heavy as usual and she looked young and beautiful.

Me: You're looking beautiful yourself.

She giggled and I hugged her again. She held my hand immediately and began to take me back the same way I had come.

Me: Hey. Wait.

She stopped and turned to me, her eyes, bright with excitement.

Me: I'm on heels.

Anna: I know. I want you to meet my cousin. I've told her a lot about you and she's been dying to see you. Thank God you're here.

Me: And I hope they're good things you've been saying?

Anna: Of course. You're good so why won't I speak goof of you anywhere? Come, I saw her around this place.

I followed her and yes, you're right. She took me straight to Franca. She was with some guys and they were laughing hysterically.

Anna: Hi sis.

Franca turned to us and her eyes settled on me. She looked surprised.
I waved at the guys with a smile and I could notice them stare shamelessly at me.

Anna: Sis, meet my friend, Pamela, the one I've being telling you of. Pamel, meet my cousin sis, Franca.

I didn't know how to take that introduction. But one thing was clear, she wasn't angry and I was surprised. She was either going to snub me or become a friend again.

Me: Hi

She enveloped me in a hug and my eyes became misty. I held her, prolonging the hug until Anna cleared her throat.
We disengaged from each other and Franca wiped her tear while I struggled with mine.

Franca: Anna, actually, this is Kaima. The girl that used to visit our home when you were little, when you normally came during the long vacation. I know you won't remember her. We ended up being roommates until we got separated.

Anna: Wow. This world is really a small place.

Franca: True.

Anna: Alright. I'll leave you two together now so that William doesn't start looking for me.

Franca: Anna, I've told you about this relationship with........

Anna: See you later Sis.

And she was off. Franca hissed and turned to the guys. She excused herself and led me to a quiet lobby where we sat down. A waitress was passing by so we picked a glass of wine each.

Franca: You're looking very beautiful.

Me: Thanks. You too ain't looking bad.

She smiled and sipped from her glass. She looked very slim but also beautiful, like she was now into modelling. I don't know why people will put themselves through lots of troubles all in the name of modelling.

Franca: How has it been for you? You look like you've achieved a lot for yourself.

Me: All thanks to God. I manage my dad's business empire now. What about you?

Franca: I'm into modelling now. The ambassador of DeLegit women clothing line.

Me: Never heard of that but I'm happy for you. You know, Lois also has a clothing line.

Franca: Lois. That name rings a bell. Right. My replacement right?

I smiled at her use of words. Replacement. Glad she knew that word existed. Not when she replaced me with some silly girl, mixed with alcohol and cigarette.

Me: And you know, this William, he was the neighbour we never got to meet.

Franca: Serious?

Me: Yes. He lived with his best friend. We only got talking after you left.

Franca: Wow. Then I missed out on a lot. Actually, I'm also here because I'll be endorsed as the face of his hair cream company next week. All thanks to Anna that got me the connection.

Me: Wow. She and William must be very serious then

Franca: Not true. He's just using her. And she knows that. I've talked and talked but she is so stubborn.

I was tempted to ask her about Anna's parents then I remembered her own parents. They had moved out of the estate after that misunderstanding I had with Franca.

Franca: Tell me, what do you think?

Me: My dear, I wouldn't ask u to bother her over this issue hastily. Talk to her about......

Franca: Help me. She sees you as a better friend. Please will you talk to her for me?

Me: I don't know. I have history with William so......

As I stepped into the popular hotel delincoln, I was calculating the time I was going to spend there. First, I'm here to sign those freaking papers, then secondly, I'll talk heavy sense into that rich, bossy, arrogant William. I recalled the incident that happened three hours ago at my apartment and smiled.

Me:....................... ........ I need your help.

Lois: With what?

Me: What to wear.

Lois: You have a perfect mentor for that.

We walked through the stairs to my room and Lois flung my wardrobe door open.

Me: Something simple and nice.

Lois: I'll prefer something hot and classy. A little sultry look tonight won't cause any harm.

Me: But,.........

Lois: You may just sit down and watch me or get out from this room. I was on my own when you asked for help, and help you shall get.

I threw myself on the bed without saying another word. She began to go through my clothes until she got out a blue gown she had sent me once. As usual, I had never worn it. It was still in it's nylon transparent bag. She tore the bag and brought out the gown, giving me a frown.

Lois: Looks like I'll stop sending you clothes.

Me: Those kind of clothes are for special occasions.

Lois: My foot. We only live once.

Me: I know.

She flapped the gown and smiled.

Lois: With nothing much being said, I've seen the right outfit for tonight.

I opened my mouth to argue and she shut me up with her eyes immediately.

Lois: We'll see what heels you have.

She looked through my shoe rack and selected a black stiletto heel that has diamond(fake o) on it.

Lois: Yes. Since it's a peep toe, I'll have to repaint your toes.

She went out and came back immediately with her cutex bag, I refused to argue, I just gave her my feet and allowed her do the job, all the while, thinking of what I would look like in that gown.

Now I'm here, in an off shoulder gown that stopped just on my knee. The v line that should have rested on my back stopped just above my ass, leaving my back on display. She had applied my makeup like I was going for my wedding, then parked my hair in a messy bun.
My toes had being painted blue by this same friend of mine and I must confess, I looked like an updated version of Pamela.

I walked into the reception and I can swear that every head turned towards my direction. I clutched my Gucci black purse very tight and went straight to the receptionist who was staring shamelessly at me.

Receptionist: Good evening ma, how may we help?

Me: Good evening my dear. Please where is the party taking place?

Receptionist: Oh! Take the elevator to the seventh floor. You're welcome madam.

Me: Thanks.

I dipped my hand into my purse and brought out two #1000 notes. I placed it on the counter and walked out. I could hear her excited chattering but I couldn't look back. I found the elevator and got in, checking my purse to be sure that my phone and car key were in good condition.

The ride up was smooth since I was uninterrupted till I got to the seventh floor. I stepped out from the elevator and my ears smiled to my brain as I heard the soft music playing in the background. I planted my "formal" smile and began walking down the hallway. I saw my employees and they all waved at me with smiles on their faces. I was about turning to a corner when I heard a familiar voice. I don't know why my ears are so sharp to things that end up ruining me. I turned to make sure that the voice I heard was right. Yes. I was right.
She's here, flesh and blood.

The rest of the week saw us going and coming from the hospital to the police station. Claire was taken to court on the charge of attempted murder and several unidentified killings which was done a couple of years back. Surprising, she had pleaded guilty but it got her nothing lenient. The last hearing would be in a week time and only then will I breathe out properly. Tobe on the other hand, kept on fighting for his life. The bullet was successfully removed but then, thanks to the low medical facilities, he had been in coma since then. I kept praying for his quick recovery like he was my husband and Harry had said it in court that if Tobe doesn't get conscious before that week, Claire would have to be given a lifetime punishment.

One evening, while I was checking my schedule for the office the next day that I got a text message. I had not gone to work since Tobe got shot and I didn't care. I had dropped my leave ever since the William's issue and dad had been more than happy to know my reason involved William.

"to remind you of the party tonight, remember, we get to sign the papers today"

I quickly checked the date and realised it was the 10th. Anger quickly washed over me. I was not angry at myself for forgetting the party, but my anger was at Williams, who had never stepped foot to visit Tobe ever since the accident but he had the mind to think about a party. I was sure Leonard had told him but he had chosen to pretend not to know. I went down the stairs to meet Lois watching a soap opera.
She turned to me with a smile.

Lois: Babe.....

Me: Can you imagine this fool?

Her smile quickly disappeared and I gave her my phone, to see the text message. She frowned immediately.

Lois: Isn't this guy too much? We're bothering over out friend who's in the hospital and he has the guts to invite you to a party? Can't the signing wait?

I took my phone from her and called my PA.

Me: Oma?

Oma: Good evening ma.

Me: Thank you. How come I didn't get notified of the party with Lincoln Dayzee?

Oma: But ma, the manager said you won't make it because of your friend's health condition.

I breathed a sigh, thanking God for giving me workers who weren't as selfish as William.

Me: Hope everyone will be there? The board?

Oma: Yes ma. We've got everything under control. How's your friend?

Me: He's fine Oma. I'll be at the party but once I sign the documents, I'll leave.

Oma: Alright ma. I'll inform the others.

I hung up and turned to Lois who I'm sure is wondering what's wrong with me.

Me: I'll go there, but it's just to put him in his place once and for all.

Lois: Do I come with you?

Me: Don't worry my dear. I think it's in my place to fix this once and for all.

Lois: You'll be fine on your own?

Me: Yes but right now, I need your help

Me: Oh Jesus! Did you hear that?

Lois: I think someone has been shot

Me: Shot? How?

Lois: No no. It better not be what I'm thinking.

She searched round the sitting room and saw her phone lying on the table beside mine. She made for it but my phone started ringing immediately so she picked mine instead.

Lois: yes hello......yes, I mean....what? we're coming right away.

She dropped my phone and looked at me while my eyes begged for answers.

Lois: Tobe. He's been shot.

Me: How? why?

She practically dragged me out of the house and locked up. A little crowd was already formed in front of Harry's house. We ran to the house and the little crowd made way for us. Tobe was lying on the ground while another guy used a cloth to press on to his wound which was on the lower abdomen. Harry was holding Claire, not pleadingly or emotionally but as a hostage. Leonard was kneeling beside the guy who was pressing onto Tobe's wounds.
Claire saw us and was about attacking us when Harry gave her a deafening slap, sending her back to the floor. That was when I noticed the gun which was by the corner, at Harry's feet.

Me: Someone call an ambulance please.

Leonard: I've don't that. They'll be here soon.

Lois: And the police?

Leonard: Coming too. We don't know how long they.....

A siren interrupted and we all looked up, it was an ambulance. The guys around quickly helped in putting Tobe into the ambulance. Leonard and the other guy went with them while the rest of the crowd left, leaving Harry, the crazy Claire, myself and Lois.

Lois: How long before the police gets here?

Harry: Very soon.

Lois: Right. We need to get this filthy thing out of our lives for good. And hey, pray nothing happens to Tobe if not, I'll so make life a living hell for you.

Me: How did this happen?

Harry: I think she wanted to leave the house with the gun and Eddy tried to stop her. I was coming to know what the noise was all about when she pulled the trigger and that was it.

I looked at Lois and she was already looking at me, probably thinking same thing with me.

Lois: You wanted to come kill us? Is that how shameless you are?

Me: What are you saying Lois? She stooped to that level years ago. A cultist is a killer and she's not far from one. I'm glad that finally, something can be used to tame you. Let's see how far your mother's influence will take you.

Claire: You dare not call my late mother. She's not the one who tried to kill your lover.

I felt bad. A lot has happened during my phoneless years. May she rest in peace. The silence reigned till the police came. While they took custody of Claire and the weapon, Harry gave them a piece of his mind.

Harry: It took you guys more than an hour to get here. What if she were a man, a violent one, what would we have done? So disappointing that you guys don't know your job

Officer: I'm sorry sir. We got delayed and........

Harry: Just take her away. We'll come to the station and give our report.

Officer: Thank you sir.

They zoomed off and we entered Harry's car, heading to the hospital.
Harry: I can't believe what just happened. How can Eddy be living with that devil for a year and counting now?

Lois: At least, there will be a good reason for them to separate now.

Harry: I've refused to believe that desperate women can do anything. I'm glad I'm his lawyer. I pray nothing happens to him so I can give him divorce papers to end this nonsense he calls marriage.

We were doing the dishes when the doorbell rang.

Lois: Must be Leonard.

Me: Hmmm. Is that love I'm seeing in your eyes?

The bell rang again and I took fast steps to the sitting room and then the door. I didn't bother to check who since I was all ready to meet Leonard. But was I wrong?

I went in and told her how everything had happened and i had to listen to her, shouting at me for not putting the fool in her right place.

Her laughter filled the sitting room and i quickly ran up to my room. i took time to shower and dress in a shirt gown that stopped in my mid thigh, the intention was to look hot, now that Claire was around, i knew the competition to showcase who was successful would be on the high. i applied a little make up, of course i was going to take selfies later in the day
I went downstairs and Lois was on a call which she ended shortly.

Lois; my top model will be getting married in a week, i showcased the vacancy and i've being getting countless calls, emails and text messages from this white kids.

He had shock and surprise written all over his face. He placed a hand on his head and stared at me open mouthed.

I went into my room and locked the door, slamming it in his face and smiling at my victory. At least, next time, he will have no reason to talk to me anyhow. And that was it. Our discussion went deep into the night. All about his wife and how he got inspired to do something natural with the money his dad had willed him. I freed up, comfortable enough to also tell him what i've been doing all these years and again, he kept on apologising, asking that i forgave him.

Tobe; And there is no chance for the both of us anymore? We were very happy together you know, we can always do better now that we've had better experience. I will never hurt you again. I promise.

He started to walk away and was almost in front of the fourth door after mine when I got hold of myself.

I walked into the room and sat down, using the big bedspread to cover my bosoms. I don't believe in the so called "he had seen it before so why cover up". He entered the room and locked the door.

He lowered himself on the single sofa in the room.

There was a five seconds silence in the room but that five seconds looked like forever. Our eyes were both locked and I was feeling the tears forming a knot on my throat.

Then he knelt down and began to kneel walk to me. The tears fell and by the time he was beside me, we were both crying.

But his only response were his tears and sobs. I knew I forgave him the moment he placed his head on my laps and I held it in place, we both crying like the world was about to collapse on us.

After what seemed like ages, we brought ourselves together and started having that inevitable talk.

Luckily for me, I had concluded plans on how to leave the country. I eventually left and was free, except for the fact that I almost tore every social media platform in my search for you. I thought everything was over and I came back two years ago after the death of my father but was I wrong, Claire found me and caused chaos with her girls the day my dad was buried. She insisted that the only way out was marriage, Pamel, I had no choice. I had to save my head. Fortunately for me, my dad had left a lot of things for me so I had to build hotels and resorts, found myself a job and had to marry her. Someone held me from behind. The touch was gentle and without looking, I allowed him pull me out from where I was standing, ready to dash more slaps to William. I turned to see who it was and it was Tobe, I quickly slapped his hands out from my shoulders and stuck out a finger at him.

Me: Hey! You don't touch me again.

Everyone was looking at me like I was crazy but I didn't care. I pulled out a chair and sat down, ignoring their stares but they didn't stop looking so I picked my handbag and walked out, determined to go back home. I had barely walked out of the resort when Lois ran up to me. She was with Leonard.

Lois: Babe, what's the matter? What's wrong with you?

Me: Are you asking me that? You didn't hear him commit that blunder back there?

Lois: You would have simply ignored him. That's the best treatment for his kind. It's obvious he's a sadist and all we can do is ignore him

Me: I can't. He needs to be taught how to interact with people. He can't just pop back into our lives and try to change us with his stupid quest for vengeance.

Leonard: Pamela is right. William has gone beyond ignoring. He needs to learn that his old life was far more gracious than this.

Lois: Then, what do we do?

Leonard: Let's go back. I'll handle everything. Let's have our fun and go home. There are plenty of things to do in this resort.

Lois: You better be right. Pamel?

Me: Alright. I must carve an award for both of you. You two are always there to change my mind at all times.

Leonard: Leo and Lois, always saving lives.

We laughed and started heading back to the resort. They were already in another table, William had changed into another black suit and they were chatting. We joined them but I paid less attention. Then Lois spoke up;

Lois: Let me start by apologising for what happened back there. We're all adults so let's try to act like one. This outing was supposed to be a welcome back thing for me, but since it's now more of a get together, let's do something that will make it a memorable one for all of us, suggestions please.

Harry: Yea. I support you on that one. But first, let's take a look around this beautiful place. What do you say? Eddy, you're free to take us around right?

Tobe: Why not?

Leonard: Fine then, let's go.

Everyone stood up except me. It took Leonard's hard stare to get my ass up and join them. I decided to stick with myself since Amber paired with Harry, Leonard and Lois were together, Tobe led the way while William walked by Leonard's side, with his hand in his pocket. I brought out my earpiece from my handbag, plugged it into my phone and started listening to music, the sound drowning every other word from my ear. Tobe was busy, pointing out places and saying things I didn't hear. All I knew was, if they stopped, I stop, if they continue walking, I follow. Music, my life.

We got to something that looked like a hill and I was marvelled at what I saw, the beauty of nature, water was running out from a stone and some people were swimming down where it met the pool. It took this sight to make me pull the earpiece out of my ear.

Me: Wow.

Tobe: It's beautiful right?

Me: Yes. Tell me, how did this come about? It's just like that passage of the bible where Moses made water to start coming out from a rock. Don't tell me it's this place.

Everyone laughed and we started taking pictures. To my own surprise, I started having an open conversation with Tobe, we even snapped pictures together. Leonard once gave me a thumbs up and I replied with a smile. The resort was very beautiful and big. By the time we went back to our starting point, it was already past 8pm.

Leonard: We better get going now.

Tobe: I won't let you guys leave this place by this time of the night. I'll order dinner for you guys and then get rooms available for everyone.

Me; No. We've already taken much and you didn't charge us. It won't be fair if we let you do this one again.

He gave me a smile and I returned it.

Tobe: Anything for my friends.

William: You can get rooms for the girls, the guys can pay for ours.

Amber: Ladies not girls please.

William: Whatever. Guys, I'm speaking sense right?

Harry: Eddy, get rooms for all of us, the guys will pay for theirs.

Leonard: And dinner,......

Lois: I'll pay for appetiser and desert.

Leonard; You like food eh.

Lois: I know. You also love food.

Me: Let me see to the main course.

Harry: Is there a competition going on here? Guys, how can we let the girls beat......

Amber: I'll handle the drinks. You guys can do the serving if you really want to do something.

This drew a laugh from everyone. I saw a small smile on William's face and I looked away immediately.

Tobe; Let me be the one to decide on who pays and who serves. But the room issue, the guys will pay while the ladies get to sleep comfortably.

Lois: Right.

Tobe: I'll be right back

I looked from Tobe to Leonard, then I became like, who cares by the way?

Everyone said something congratulatory except for me. I gulped down my glass and excused myself. Like I knew I was going to be having a competition, I had dressed in a pink Ankara top (more like a baggy top that stopped in my mid thigh), a little black short and my pink boot. With my phone in hand, I left the little gathering and made for the parking lot. I got there fortunately and leaned on Leonard's car. I breathed out and sank into deep thoughts, wondering the direction my life was going to. Who was writing my destiny now and why is this writer making my life complicated?
I was brought out from my thoughts by the little slut William now carried around.
She tapped me and I looked at her. Behind the huge make up, I saw an innocent girl and anger tightened in my throat. Not against the little girl but against William, who was turning this girl into a sex worker.

Anna: You're beautiful.

Her voice was angelic, and it rang in my head like a church bell.
Goose bumps appeared on my skin and my ear itched, begging to release the tears through my eyes.

Anna: My name's Anna and it's clear you are not happy, that's why I decided to follow you.

Me: How old are you?

Don't blame me. That was the first question my brain decided to register to my lips. She stared at me, then gave out that smile she gave me at the office.

Anna: Nice. So tell me, why are you not happy? i was told we were coming here to have fun.

Me: Is that what your boyfriend told you?

Anna: Yes. And is that jealousy I smell?

My world. What insolence. A girl, who I'm sure is just 17-18 years, speaking in such manner. I shook my head and stared at her, she still had that smile.

Anna: I'm kidding. Don't take it personal.

Me: It's cool.

Anna: So tell me why you're not happy. You just left everyone of us there, it's not polite.

Me: I'm sorry but I wanted to be alone. You see, I've got history with everyone there and most of them are not pleasant to remember. Seeing there faces got me confused to an extent.

Anna: Hmmm. You're just like my sister.

Me: How?

Anna: You don't even know me, yet you're saying those things to me. Come, let's go inside. If they were your friends and you enjoyed company with them a couple of years ago, I believe, if you give them a chance into your life, they will make life much more interesting for you.

I looked at her again and a smile quickly appeared on my face. That instant, we both started laughing.

Me: And I ask again, how old are you?

Anna: I'm 18. I clocked 18 last month.

I held her shoulders and we started walking back to the resort.

Anna: You enjoy wearing shorts don't you?

Me: Yes dear.

Anna: Why?

Me: Because of the same reason you enjoy wearing them.

Anna: Cause I've got straight legs.

Me: Same here. It's either skirts or shorts.

Anna: You don't wear trousers at all?

Me: Nope. I cut my jeans.........



........................and that was our discussion till we joined the group. They saw us and were surprised. Instead of going back to William's lap, she pulled a chair beside mine and sat down.

Lois: At least, we can now eat.

Me: Forgive us. We got carried away.

I looked at Anna and she shot me a smile. I could see William's mood change and I knew he didn't like my relationship with Anna.

William: Guys, excuse me. Anna, meet me outside now.

He left and Anna held my hands. I felt it shake but her face still wore that smile.

Anna: I may not come back. He doesn't like me associating with his friends.

Lois: He's sick. He doesn't have that right.

Anna looked at Lois and nodded, her smile not leaving her face.

Anna: I know, but that's what I get for going way beyond my league. It was nice meeting you all.

Me: At least, give me your number of have mine.

I fished through my handbag and got out my complementary card. I gave it to her and she stuffed it into her snicker and jogged away.

Leonard: How old is she?

Me: Just 18.

Amber: This William of a guy is something else. Though, he looks good but it's not a guarantee to act as he pleases.

Harry: I know you must get attracted to him. Don't forget I'm still here.

We used that to lighten the mood before our meal came and we started eating. That was when William came back and took a seat beside Leonard.

Harry: Where is your girlfriend?

William: Girlfriend? You mean Anna?

Harry: Of course. Or did you come with someone else?

William: Sent her home, so that some people won't use her as an excuse to get back into my life.

That was what it took to bring out the little demon in me. I pushed the table towards him and stood up. I walked towards him in angry steps. Not minding the table that compressed him or the meals that had splattered on him, I gave him a slap that made Lois gasp, then everyone stood up to stop the fight that never came.

I opened my eyes and they were chatting happily; Amber, Lois and Leonard. The sound of the door must have attracted their attention cause they turned in my direction immediately.

Lois: Hey.

We both were in each others arms the next second, we'll look at each other and fall back into our arms again.

Me: How I've so missed you Lois.

Lois: Come here.

And we hugged again. That was the routine till Leonard reminded us to sit down. We sat together with smiles on our face.

Me: Sorry I wasn't here to welcome you.

Lois: Leonard told me.

I looked at Leonard but he was busy with his phone, then he looked up immediately.

Leonard: Hey. Did you both have a fight?

Amber/Lois: Who?

I knew the question was for me so I explained to them what had transpired between William and myself, starting from the office sex, without missing or mincing words.

Lois: Right. I trust you. Who behaves that way to a friend? No matter what happened, he took it too far.

Leonard: He just sent me a text, complaining about your stubbornness and refusal to keep things official.

Me: Why will I keep things official when he's my friend? Does he want me to prostrate before him or call him sir? If he calls it stubbornness, then he's yet to see the real thing.

Amber: Forgive me if I'm intruding but Leonard, why not talk to him? I believe he'll listen or maybe Lois can do that.

Leonard: My dear, if words were a naira each, I would have been a billionaire with just talking to William. He believes all ladies deserve to be treated like dirt because Pamel played with his feelings.

Me: I did not. He knew I had relationship issues, he wasn't expecting me to jump into another one when I was yet to recover from the heartbreak of the previous one. I left to get my sanity back.

Leonard; I understand. I'm not trying to blame you or something but look at it this way, if you were in his shoes, what will you do?

Me: I don't know but I won't turn into a monster, I won't expose myself to the risk of sexually transmitted diseases just because my heart was broken. There are so many things he's doing that is not good for his health. He's risking his life........

Leonard: And why do you care?

Me: Because I......

Lois: Love him.

I stared at her in shock because I didn't expect that from her. But, was that really what I wanted to say?

Lois: Seeing him today brought back the feelings of five years ago, maybe you didn't know then, because Tobe was your top priority but it's obvious now. You care about him because you love him.

Leonard: Yes Pamela. It's possible that you're in love with William but even if you're not, ........


Imagine!!! How can they be discussing my emotional attachment in my present when I've not given them reason to think so? How can I be in love with a love peddler? Even if I do love him, it's because he's my friend. I know I should have informed him before leaving. I jerked out of my thoughts and their eyes were on me.

Amber: Did you just zone out on us?

I hissed lightly and relaxed on the cushion, closing my eyes and ignoring the three friends that matter to me now.

Lois: You're not saying anything.

Me: Cause there's nothing to say.

Leonard: Are we disturbing you?

I snapped my eyes open and looked at him. He had the look of a young boy who's being maltreated.
I sat up immediately.

Me: How can you say that? You all are just looking out for me......and, I'm not paying attention because I'm hungry.

Lois: Oh! Forgive us sweetheart. We actually ......

Me: I know. You guys have eaten right?

Leonard nodded.

Me: Alright then. I'll join you guys in a jiffy. Lemme refresh and get back to you guys.

Lois; Alright. And yes, Leonard was talking about taking us out tomorrow.

Me: Fine. We'll talk about it when I come down.

At the beginning, it was very annoying, not just did Tobe and Harry join us for breakfast, in my house, they also joined us as we went out to catch our innocent fun. We used Leonard's car and that of Harry. Tobe and Harry rode in Harry's car while the rest of us remained with Leonard. It was when we got to our destination that I realised we were in a resort. Leonard had made a reservation and we were attended to the very moment we got there.

We all settled in a table which made it look like we were in a conference and the orders started coming in.
We were served wine first and we started discussing over our different glasses.

Lois: This place is nice. Didn't know somewhere like this existed in this state.

Leonard: Yes. You'll be surprised if I tell you who owns this resort.

Me: Let me guess, you?

Leonard: Nope.

His no came with a smile. Harry was looking at me and the very moment I noticed him, he smiled.

Harry; You want your boyfriend to own every good thing.

Amber: Wait. Harry, you own this place?

Leonard: Nope.

Harry: Nope.

And then they laughed like two kids who were playing pranks on people.

Lois: Fine. Tell us and stop making fun of our......

She stopped speaking and focused her gaze behind Harry. We all followed her stare and my mouth dropped open.

Leonard; The last man on this crew is here.

He was with that same girl that had worked out of his office that morning. She was dressed more provocatively than yesterday. She had a black bum short on and a white crop top that stopped just below her breast, then she was putting on a white snicker. William himself was dressed in black throughout, looking more handsome than I can remember. It took Lois' tap to bring me back to the group, the same time William was shaking hands with the guys. He didn't say a word to any of us ladies. His babe just waved and sat her ass down on his laps.

Leonard: So we were saying, Tobe owns this place.

Me: What?

Chai. Love o, love o...... I'm "loving" the love you guys are showing me here. Please pardon my short updates, it's the little time I steal at work that I use to update. But no matter what, I'll keep giving it to you guys back to back.





I allowed my word sink in before I started walking close. I watched him fiddle with his zipper and he stood up just as I got to the edge of his table.

William: Don't let me call the security on you. Remember i still have the files to our contract and can still cancel it.

Me: Fine. Do whatever you want to do but first of all, I'll say what I want to say without batting an eyelid

William: Get out of here now Pamela. I don't want to talk to you.

Me: But I want to talk. And I'm glad you remember my name is not Miss.

We stared at each other for a while and he sat down on his office Bleep seat.

William: What do you want?

His voice was filled with disdain but I wouldn't let that bring me down. He spoke like I was disgusting but I'll let him tell me that before I leave.

Me: What you eat. That's what I'm here to talk about.

He slammed his fist on the table and stood up.

William: It's none of your business what i do with my life.

Me: The same way it's not my business what you eat. What were you thinking? That I'll allow your arrogance and self centered nature to bring me down or get me discouraged? You've got another thing coming William. You think this rubbish you're doing is one of a kind? No. Instead I see you as a weakling and dumbass who's so scared to express his hurt over the wrong done him. If I did something, speak it now than trying to be all rude and bossy. It doesn't work on Pamela Bernards.

I saw it clearly on his face, anger, shock, pain. But I also saw love in his eyes. A part of me wanted to pull him to me and console him, but the other part wants to hear him talk and i allowed that part win.

William: I'm.....I'm glad you know a wrong was done to me. But it's not in your power to tell me when I'm tired of punishing the female folk for all the pains I had passed through because of their kind.

His words hurt and I felt my throat twitch in tears.

Me: And you think it's the best?

William: When she left, she didn't bother about what was best or not. She was selfish and I took after her.

The "her" was me. A decision that changed my life and made me an island. I couldn't fight for my boyfriend but I was going to fight for my friend.

William: Now, get out of here. Though it'll give me great pleasure to watch the security manhandle you but I'm being considerate because of your dad.

Me: You lie. You don't wanna call the security because it'll hurt you to see them treat me harshly, you don't want to call them because you love that I'm here. Have you ever thought of your friends? There was a barbeque at Leonard's estate the other day and you were not there, did you even know about it? Someone who has been a part of your life for many years? Why? Because of this new you, your friends don't enjoy your company anymore because you're simply odd William.

William: You don't......

Me: I'm not done talking love peddler. You listen. Everyone is happy, Leonard, me, Lois, we still keep in touch and are together. Why are you different? Why are you killing yourself? Vent your anger directly on the person who hurt you and not on yourself. With your new attitude and all the bony things you eat, it's only taking you away from your real life and one day, you'll need your life back but you'll realise that those bones you've being eating has choked you to death.


I stormed out of the office and Jessica was just about to leave for lunch. She still had her smile plastered on her face.

Me: Hi Jess.

Jessica: Hi. I'm curious please, are you related to my boss?

Me: And why do you ask?

Jessica: Madam, if it were another girl that walked in and saw my boss that way, there would have been war here. You can't count the.....

Me: Now you're gossiping Jess. You were about going out.

Jessica: Yes madam. I want to go have lunch.

Me: Anywhere close?

Jessica: The next street.

Me: Alright. I'll buy you lunch.

She was so happy that she hugged me and I had no choice but to return her hug.
She was chatty in the elevator and I couldn't help but wonder if she was like that to every lady who visits William. i also found myself thinking about William and how I could get him out of the silly lifestyle he was living.
We got to my car and I realised my phone had missed calls, all from Amber and Lois' Nigerian number.

Me: Oh Jesus.

Jessica: Any problem ma'am?

Me: I actually forgot that some people are waiting for me at home.

Her smile slowly disappeared.

Jessica; It's okay ma'am. We can do this next time.

Me: No. Get in. I'll fulfill my word. And please call me Pamela.

She smiled and nodded before getting into the car. I drove her to "chitis restaurant" which was behind the company street. I opened my handbag and fished for my purse. I counted #7000 out of the #15,000 I had and gave it to her.

Me: Have this for lunch. I'm sorry I can't go in with you.

Jessica: Oh.

She hugged me before I could say a word and I was marvelled at her show of affection.

Jessica: We just met today and.....

Me: Now don't get too emotional on me. I'll see you some other time okay?

She wiped a tear and we exchanged numbers before she got down and I drove off. Putting my mind back to my best friend who's waiting at home, she'll kill me for keeping her waiting. I swerved into the express and pointed my ignition straight home.

I looked at the text message again and my heart sank. I quickly knew he has something up his sleeves and whatever it was, I'm ready to give him double of it. I drove to the estate and dialled Leonard's number.

Leonard: You're back already?

Me: Yes. What zone do you live in? I need to speak with you now.

Leonard: Wait wait. Are you okay?

Me: I'm not. Zone what is that?

Leonard: Zone q. Where are you now?

I hung up and drove to the said zone. It still had a lot of uncompleted houses but it all looked super classy. I didn't drive in for long before I Leonard stepped out from a gate. The mansion was gigantic and beautiful even from outside. But I was not here to admire his house. I parked and got down, leaving my heels in the car.

Leonard: You don't look good.

Me: Yes. Because I just met William.

Leonard: Where? Did he say anything to you? Did you meet him at your interview?

Me: Lincoln Dayzee. That's where I had the interview. And William.....

Leonard: Is the CEO, I know. But you didn't tell me the company you were going to. Was he harsh?

Me: He was more than harsh Leo. He talked to me like I was some random girl, like he had never met me before. He .......

He led me into his arms and I wept. I kept asking myself why I was crying.

Leonard: Come inside please.

I freed myself and wiped my tears. He was looking at me with so much love and concern that I was embarrassed.

Leonard: You need to relax. If you can remember what I told you, I told you that you need to be strong for what was to come. I knew that somehow, someday you were going to run into him and it won't be funny. I'm sorry but that's what William turned into after you left.

I looked up immediately and shame washed through me.

Leonard: He's become a monster that I don't enjoy his company anymore. All that matters to him now are money, girls and embarrassing people. William is no longer the same William we spent our time with and babe, it will take only you to bring him back to who he used to be.

Then it struck me, if he was doing all these because I had left, then it'll take my presence to change him. I had earlier agreed I won't be having anything to do with him again after the party but no, I'll use every opportunity I get to make him see my face. With that thought in my mind, a smile quickly appeared on my face.

Leonard: What?

Me: I'll be right back. I need to talk to that boy. And hey, Lois is in my house now.

Leonard: Our own Lois?

Me: Yes. I'll call you once I'm back.

I ran to my car, got in and drove off without waiting to hear from him. I responded to his innocent waves with the honk of my car before I drove off, determined to bring back my friend.


I got to the company and parked my car, put on my heels and stepped out. I didn't bother with my handbag or files because this was not a formal visit. I walked into the building and patiently waited as the elevator rode up. The elevator stopped me on the 6th floor and I walked in, straight to the reception who put up a smile immediately she saw me.

Jessica: Welcome back ma'am. I didn't notice when you left.

Me: Sorry Jess. Is your boss in?.

Jessica: Yes but.......

Me: I'll be right back.

I walked to the door, opened it and my jaw dropped. A young girl, of same age as the silly one I had met before was bouncing on his laps. The were both so carried away that they didn't know I was there till I startled them by shutting the door. The girl turned and stared daggers at me, while I stood there with my hands folded under my breasts. I couldn't see Williams face but one thing, he carried the girl up a little and fu'cked her for some seconds before I heard him grunt and they both fell back, then he pushed her off him and she fell off his laps.

William: Get out.

The girl stood up, dressed her gown, picked up her pant which was on the table and stuffed it into her handbag. She walked up to me and was about to speak when I opened the door for her and said it in my own words....

Me: Get out, little slut.

She was surprised but again, she stepped out and I locked the door.

William: Didn't I make it clear to you that our business was on the 10th?

Me: You might as well zip up so I can talk to you with my eyes open.

William: What do you want?

Me: My friend.
