Streetinvestor2: Jijo go reduce seriously unless u won't be pulling out the loot from the market And pulling out the loot for ‘portfolio rebalancing’ is the beauty of the whole thing. I was thinking there would be a timeframe for which one could hold a stock and then the CGT payable will drop substantially. Make we dey watch sha. |

GeneralDae: If you go to the president’s twitter page, you would see where he posted the formula for calculating tax under the new law a few days ago.
I inputed 840k as gross salary and it calculated the resulting tax as 6000 naira yearly which is 15% of 40k. This is about 33000 naira reduction from the 39,920 naira you currently pay if you earn 840k yearly.
It also gave me comparison of what obtains now and the new law, that is old vs new law for someone receiving 840k gross yearly. I wonder how this new capital gains tax will affect JIJO? |

Mpeace: I heard the insurance companies that have met or can easily meet the new recapitalisation requirement are Aiico, Mansard and Leadway for the composite Insurance . Then NEM, Cornerstone, Coronation(wapic) Custodian and Universal Insurance for the General insurance requirement. But lead way is not listed on the exchange.
Pls DYOR. But they had (maybe still have) an ~ 11% stake (as at 2020) in Prestige Assurance which is listed on the NGX. https://www.thisdaylive.com/2020/08/14/prestige-assurance-shops-for-n6-8bn-from-shareholders/ |

Muzil: Good morning everyone. I discovered today that the trading of stocks feature have been added to the Cowrywise app. I'd appreciate anyone that can help me with the stocks I can buy as a newbie. I'm not after excessive profit as I just want a way for my little savings to appreciate rather than just sitting idly in my account.
NB: I am a young guy currently undergoing apprenticeship so I'm not really buoyant. Let's just say I have about 20k for a start.
I'll really appreciate all help I can receive. Welcome to the NGX. You could start by reading posts over the past 3 - 6 months on this forum and you'll gain lots of insight into the good, bad and ugly sides of the market. You could also read some of the recommended books and/or watch some of the videos posted here. You will eventually move from an apprentice of the market to a 'master' of the market. However, 'school fees' will be paid in one way or the other because the market also has a mind of its own. All the best |

STNWAUME: Instead of focusing on your so called stagnant Access and Fcmb blue chip stocks. You are busying envying those making tonnes of money from rotten tomatoes stocks I suggest we follow Madam yMcy56's suggestion before we all start to sound like broken records and unnecessarily fill up our pages. I also sold Ellah way back at a gain to position in other stocks which have done fairly okay but not up to 400% like Ellah. Like Oga Nosa, it's better to be happy for those still in the boat. It's one thing to give advice to newbies, it's another thing to be obsessed about other people's success whether it's achieved by TA, FA or plain old good luck. Winners focus on winning and losers focus on winners. |

GeeKudi: I sold my initial holding at circa N70 after about 100% appreciation. I re-entered a few days ago at 79, now about 80% up. I want to leave it to see what the chinkos will do. It's only a few units anyway. You have gained though you lost some modest potential compounding profit. Without including fees and commissions, let's say you bought 10,000 units at N35 for N350,000 and sold all at N70 to make N700,000 (profit of N350,000) and assuming you sell now after it has risen from N79 to ~N150 (profit of 1.5m - 790k = 710k), your total profit will be 1.06m. If you had left it since then and decide to sell today at the current rate of ~ N150 you would have sold the same 10,000 for N1.5m making a profit of N1.15mTheoretically speaking you would have earned extra of ~ N100,000 + two dividend payments (depending on when you sold) Now scale that to tens of thousands of units. This is a classic example of timing vs time in or maybe a form of risk management |

yMcy56: Newbies, all these big big stock names wey the Ogas here are mentioning, ask well before buying at current price because in my opinion, they may have to wait for q2 results to know the next direction, may not have high upside from their current prices for now......
Names like WAPCO already factored in the good Q2 when it moved from 80/85 to current price...... Could see some Ogas throwing numbers upandan......with some kind of manipulations ongoing there.... Remember there's a price tag on majority shareholders stakes....
It still get some other ones that already did 100%, 200%, 300%......make una look before you leap....
My advice: Look for the ones with potential 50% or more upside, those that are battered, not yet feel the bull run as such, trading at discount, around their 52 weeks low, strong fundamentals, those still lagging behind in their sectors and some with potential upside...... Like O&O, VFD, PZ, LEGEND, DS, ELLAH, JP, ACCESS, FBN, LEARN, insurance, etc...... Na examples I give o 🙄
This is purely my opinion, make some marketers no come dey take you cash out anyhow...... 😁
Stage opened for bashing, defence etc 🤔 Madam, you can private chat me for free helmet |

mikeapollo: People have different preferences. Whether illiquid stocks are desirable or not depends on the investment strategy/goals of those buying/selling. The so called illiquid stocks may not be a problem for people who are only interested in preserving value and still earning consistent, reasonable dividends. A good example is Seplat. He qualified the illiquidity by adding the J-word |

Joyful365: Please house, how much in fees and other charges should I expect to pay if I sign up with Stanbic IBTC stockbrokers and buy stocks on ngx through them? I want to know what stanbic and ngx will charge for buying and selling. I want to start with 3m and I'm told I'll first lose like 4% in fees and charges before I see any benefit (dividend and price appreciation), if any. I'm a complete novice on this please just doing my research. You may need to call or send an email to their (Stanbic) information desk to get direct and accurate answers. |
