I see you everywhere, in the stars, in the river, to me you’re everything that exists; the reality of everything”- Virginia Woolf, “Night and day

Song – Again by Wande coal

The whole city of Abuja was illuminated. The dark heavy skies couldn’t take it anymore and decided to pour. The water in the pot holes shimmered under the dim yellow glow of the street lights. There were horns blaring everywhere and people running into each other on the sidewalks. A bunch of drunken people had begun a ruckus outside the karaoke bar across the street. One could hear the distant police siren approaching. It was a mad house down there. I had turned off the buzzing of my phone for the umpteenth time. Father wouldn’t just take no for an answer. Our family has been the biggest telecommunications tycoons for the past 10 years and today my father had decided to throw a party in commemoration of it. I just didn’t understand why I had to be there. Gbotemi, my younger brother had always been my father’s favorite and I couldn’t care less.
My phone rang again, this time it was my mother.
“Hello mum”
“Enitan Williams, where are you?” she asked worried.
“I’m busy mum”
“Of all days to be busy why today? Your father needs you here.” I grunted at her reply knowing it was just a way to get me out of bed.
“We both know he doesn’t need anyone. Mum I don’t understand why you still chose to stay with him after all he had done to us”
“Not today, Enitan.” She pleaded.
“Okay mum. I’m on my way.” I heard her release a breath she didn’t know she was holding. I tried paging Dele, my chauffeur before I remembered he didn’t work on weekends.

The streets had already become desolate and the street lights had begun to flicker. I hopped into my black SUV and drove to the party. As expected, Pearl arena was buzzing with socialites. The room was grand, gold chandeliers spiraled down from the tall ceiling and the floor was finely polished. The exotic aroma of spices combined with a fruity waft hit my nose. I wasn’t surprised, I knew my father all too well. At the side, there was a magnificent water fountain and a pedestrian bridge where pictures could be taken to capture the moment. I found my way through the line of busy people, exchanging pleasantries with those I could recognize.

I spotted my mother in the midst of her friends. She was a sight to behold and she stood out easily. She wore a long blue sequin dress with intricate diamond stones on the neck. Her makeup was finely sitting on her face and her poise screamed elegance, she moved around the room with grace. The plan was to drink the night away. I snatched a glass of champagne from a passing server.
“Enitan I’m glad you’re here. Dad would be so happy to see you”
“Evening, Gbotemi. I see you’ve been busy” Ignoring his comment, I sauntered over to where mum stood with Gbotemi falling in step with me.
“Gbotemi, have you seen your dad anywhere?”
“I saw him at the ice fountain minutes ago.”
“Okay boys, I’ll leave you to it,” she said walking off. I emptied the remaining champagne in my glass. The liquid ran down my throat creating a bubbling excitement in me.
“So have you heard about the new partners we just signed a deal with?” I chuckled. Gbotemi never ceased to amaze me.
“Gbotemi, you know that’s your thing. Why do I care?” I gave him a pat on his shoulder and walked towards a group of ladies at the far end of the room.

Can you predict what would happen next? grin

Always be Mine (1)

There is only one happiness in this life, to love and be loved.

“Ellaaaa”….my goodness, I thought sleepily who the hell calls someone so loudly while asleep. I wouldn’t answer was my initial thought until I heard it again this time louder.

“Ellaaaaa!” and then I knew it wasn’t a dream but my daylight nightmare in flesh my roommate also best friend, Momore. Mo for short.

Opening my eyes reluctantly and looking directly at her with my face scrunched up like I just got punched in the face choosing my words calmly before I burst with extreme anger.

“Mo my darling.”

I stated sarcastically.

“To what in the world do I owe this pleasure of you chanting my name in such manner.” I said glaring at her.

“Oh my god”

She gasped feigning her voice like that of a sweet angel she never was.

“Did I wake you up? I’m sorry, my bad.”

Then, she chuckled again causing me to roll my eyes at her. Mo ignored my mood and plopped down on my bed with a loud thud. Like good gracious me I thought, how insensitive Mo could get.

Anyways that aside I was fully awake now and really interested in knowing why she would decide to wake me up in such manner. Bouncing back and forth she whispered yelled.

“Well I just heard that Khalid has resumed and he looks way hotter than last session…ahhh!”

She screamed at the top of her lungs making my world turn. Seems like early resumption is taking a toll on Mo’s sanity. Its a new session the first semester in our final year and Mo as it is has began poke nosing and gossiping around.

No intention to offend, she is a very good friend of mine but I can’t just ignore the fact that she never tries to mind her own damn business. Jerking out of my reverie, I yelled.

“Would you stop screaming like a banchee already? Or do you plan to ruin my eardrums?”

“Don’t you seem much more excited than I am?” She replied tauntingly.

“OK fine” I admitted feeling defeated. “I do have a crush on him but that doesn’t imply you racing around like a demented goat.”

“Oh my goddess Ella you just broke my heart.” Mo dramatically sat on the floor and feigned tears.

Honestly, Mo has always been drama queen. So I wasn’t moved by her act. I thought of how I was going to put up with her for the next eight month just as I have always done since our first year. Cheers to being the best friend of all time. I thought frustrated.

“Are you really going to just stand there and not pacify me?” I sighed deeply and got down on my knees to pat her back.

“There, there.” I murmured. “Do you feel better now?”

“So much better!” She smiled widely and I rolled my eyes. This was going to be one long session. I was beginning to hate my life already.

Chapter 5

Five months later.

“I must really commend you, Miss Temi.”Muhammad said as he held the cup closer to his lips. “Your efforts have been exceptional and believe me you’ve done better than I expected.”

“Thank you.” She said smiling.

Muhammad had developed a strong likeness to her. He liked the way she carried herself. And how she was so at ease in her body. It was obvious she was clever and humble.

“Besides, that reminds me.” Muhammad added dropping the cup “You and I will be going to a conference in South Africa”.

“Wow!” She said as a mouth slacked in surprise.

“Wow?”,”I guess you never travelled out of this country” he asked smiling.

“No sir” she chuckled. “Uhm…is it just both of us?”

“Yes, do you have any problem with that?”

“N…no”

“Okay, we will be leaving three days from now, I have made arrangement for your visa.”

“Alright.” Temi said.

Temi got home feeling excited. For years she had been looking forward to travelling away from home – to having her freedom – but now, she only thought of how much she would miss her family and how frightening it would be to travel with her boss. Alone.

She went to her mother place to tell her about the forthcoming trip. Her mother was so excited. With tears in her eyes she prayed for temi.

“Good morning sir.” She said, stepping into the car parked in front of the office.

“Morning,” He replied briskly, then he revived the engine. “I can sense you are excited about this trip” Muhammad dragged his eyes lazily over her.

“I guess,” Temi said, feeling giddy. They both discussed as they drove to the airport

After boarding the plane, they arrived tired and went to the hotel he had booked for them.

“Here are your keys, sir,” The receptionist said. She looked at Temi then settled her eyes on Muhammad. “Alright.” He grabbed the keys from the front desk.

“Oh, sir.” She called out sweetly.

We both turned out necks, and this time Muhammad’s eyebrows were creased. Temi was sure it wasn’t just her who noticed the receptionist’s failed attempt at flirting.

“If you need anything, don’t hesitate to call room service.” She blinked furiously and smiled. Temi rolled her eyes and tailed Muhammad, who was already three strides ahead of her. He walked her to her room and stood at the doorway.

“Good night Miss Temi, be ready by 7:pm tomorrow. We will be leaving for Johannesburg. That’s where the conference will hold.”

“Alright,” She replied. Immediately she closed the door behind her she sunk into the bed, letting its warmth envelop her.

AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT

I always want to find you there

"Hello, good morning, Am I speaking with Miss Temitayo?" The voice over the phone asked.

"Ye...ee....sss this is Temitayo, how can I help you?"

"You have been selected for the post of the P.A to the C.E.O Adimbos reality.”

"P.A?" she asked and slowly placed her hand over a mouth.

Temitayo was bewildered. "Wow! really, thank you" she said in a soft shaky voice.

"You are to report to work on Monday Miss Temi. The caller said and hanged up immediately.

"Oh my goodness", temi said as she sat on her bed moving her hand down to her throat then chest.

"I thought I applied for a receptionist?" She thought trying to clarify what she had just heard.

"Phew. At least it’s better than nothing.” She said and rubbed her hand over the bed searching for her phone.

"Mama mi must hear this.”

"Hello Momma, finally I got a job" She told her mum excited.

"Wow! my child congratulation." Her mum said happily and in tears. Then she mumbled prayers on her daughter.

“Amen" Temi repeatedly said smiling.

*Monday morning*

Temi stood at the door with the words “C.E.O” She sighed heavily and knocked.

“You may come in.” His voice boomed.

“Good morning, sir.”

"Yes, morning.” He his eyes swept over her slowly and returned to his laptop. “I’m sure you’ve been briefed about your position?”

“Erm... not really. That wasn’t the post I applied for.”
He looked at me again and smirked.

“I’m aware of that. This is my company, and I felt that position would suit you better. If you aren’t interested, you’re free to leave."

"No...no...not that. I’ll take the job," she said. What a prude, she thought.

Temitayo plastered a fake smile on her face and looked around his office. This was the first time she was taking in his office. Most of his furniture was black. The room had a beautiful glass backdrop that overlooked the city. Every file on the shelves and his table were neatly stacked. At the corner of the room was a coffee machine. On it was some photo frames which were turned down. She wondered why anyone would choose not to stand a photo frame.

He coughed, and she immediately drew her eye back to him. Flexing his expensive watch, he stretched out some papers to her.

"Okay, so, in these documents are my schedule and everything your work entails. You will only report directly to me, and you will do whatever task I assign to you that is not in the documents, of course. I hope that’s clear?”

She nodded. “Yes, it is.”

“Good! Now, excuse me.”

AS FATE WOULD HAVE IT (Prologue)

Every love story is beautiful, but ours is my favourite
Muhammad Jabir was the C.E.O of Adimbos reality, Lagos, Nigeria. The most popular and prosperous rice_producing company in west Africa and Africa at large.

He was born to a family of five children and was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Jabir Adimbo, a known name in Nigeria. Mr. Jabir was the one-time Senate president of Nigeria. He was pampered since he was the only son.

Like several other children of interest, Muhammad Jabir was educated at one of the leading secondary schools in the nation, King's College, Lagos. Later he was sent to Epsom College, England, and then on to Lincoln College, University of Oxford. Muhammad never lacked anything while growing up.

He took up the family business after he came back from San Diego in the States. And ever since, the firm had grown beyond recognition. It had attracted investors from both here in Nigeria and the world at large. The company now exports rice to various parts of the world.

Indeed Muhammad is an exemplary leader and had made his family proud over the years.

Temitayo John was a 24 years old graduate of business management from the Lagos State University. With first-class, and ever since for three years, she had been job hunting, from one business firm to another.

ENITAN’s POV

When I saw that filth grinding against Ademidun, adrenaline pumped in me. And I was livid. What came over me? I held my head and stared at the floating bubbles on my laptop. It took every willpower in me not to break his bones. Ademidun was two rooms away from me. Her coordinator was getting worse than I actually expected but I was surprised at that she could control it quite well.

Parkinson’s was terrible and could do more damage if not checked. And in her first stage, Ademidun was doing fine accepting it. I was glad she didn’t bite on her lips earlier or I would have lost it. It would have taken the intervention of the mother of earth to not have bent her over my knees. I shifted in my chair adjusting the uncomfortable bulge that was beginning to grow in my pants.

Gbotemi had called me earlier about our stepsister. He spoke about her with so much enthusiasm that I could tell he was excited to have a sibling other than me. I couldn’t blame him. I would be excited to have someone else than me too. The company’s balance sheet still had a discrepancy. I scanned the balance over and over and I couldn’t place a finger on what went wrong with the numbers. A loud crash echoed from the next room. Without thinking I walked as fast as my feet could carry me to my room and there, my eyes fell on Ademidun who tossed in the bed.

No…Stop…I said no…” Beads of sweat formed on her fore head and a crease sat there. She had knocked the vase by the bed table down. My heart tugged painfully seeing her in fear.

Ademidun.” I padded to her side of the bed and held her. With force she jolted back in her sleep.

Ademidun!” this time I called out louder and her eyes flew opened. She scrambled up from the bed and threw her arms around me.

“Enitan don’t leave me. Stay with me.” She whimpered. I ran my fingers through her hair which she had surprisingly let down, and held her to my chest

I’m here. I’m here.” I whispered into her ear and the tension in her shoulders softened. Straightening the tangled sheets, I ran my fingers through her massaging her head. She held my shirt tight and I wrapped my hands around her. Placing my chin over her head, I caught a waft of my shampoo on her hair and smiled. Minutes later, her breathing had evened and she was fast asleep. I gently tucked her in and laid beside her.
