Crime / Re: EFCC To Rehabilitate Convicted ‘Yahoo Boys’ – Chairman by panpan(m): 9:44am On Mar 23
The Supreme Court has held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) does not have the powers to prosecute offenses that are not corruption cases and that the only corruption cases it can investigate are cases involving the movement of cash from Nigeria to foreign countries and corruption cases involving federal finances, being a creation of federal law.

EFCC should leave "yahoo boys" alone, for the alleged activities of "yahoo boys" are not within EFCC's powers to investigate and prosecute.

EFCC should focus on allegations about "illicit financial outflow from Nigeria", or "corruption cases involving federal finances".

As some have said on this thread, perhaps EFCC just wants to use this rehabilitation issue as an excuse to cash out or pad their budget.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Govt Eyes Fresh $1bn World Bank Loan For IDPs by panpan(m): 11:41am On Mar 19
These foreign loans should stop.

Whenever the federal government takes external loans, they indirectly take money from the Nigerian population through naira devaluation, increase in the price of petroleum products, and general inflation.

Australia is the most venomous continent.
No matter how many years of experience a person may have with venomous snakes, it takes just one snake bite to reset that person's life.

Crime / Re: U.S., Others Offer To Assist In Combating Kidnapping by panpan(m): 1:41pm On Mar 14
The federal government should not accept any offer from the United States to combat kidnapping.
If the Nigerian armed forces and police cannot, or will not combat kidnapping, then mercenaries or a foreign security group, with a proven track record, should be employed.

Politics / Re: Only Foreign Borrowing Can Save Naira, Clear CBN Debts – EIU by panpan(m): 11:08am On Mar 11
One of the major causes of the fall of the naira is foreign borrowing.

When the federal government takes foreign loans, they are indirectly taking money from the Nigerian population through naira devaluation, increase in the price of petroleum products, and general inflation.
Politics / Re: Nigerian Government Owes N100 Billion In Electricity Bills – Distributors by panpan(m): 10:54am On Mar 11
The Ministries, Agencies, and Departments (MDAs) have annual budgets, which includes payment of electricity bills; and funds have been allocated for such each year.
So what has been going on?

EFCC should not arrest anybody unless the allegation is about "illicit financial outflow from Nigeria", or "corruption cases involving federal finances".

EFCC should stop harassing a particular group of young men just because they appear to be doing well financially.

It warns the country could lose a total of $3.8bn (£3bn) in World Bank funding over the next five to six years.

What the Finance Ministry of Ghana should say is that "The World would not offer loans of a total of $3.8bn to the country".
The World Bank does not "fund".
The World Bank gives loans.

Phones / Re: NCC To Telecom Operators: All SIMs not linked To NIN Must Be Blocked Today by panpan(m): 8:22pm On Feb 28
The purpose of National Identification Number (NIN) linkage to sims is not to track terrorists and kidnappers, even though it can be used for that.

The purpose for the NIN linkage to sims is for control. The NIN issue was imposed by an international gruop for the purpose of control, with Nigeria being used as a test case.

Has the World Bank played a role in funding the NIN project?
Well, the World Bank has provided loans to the federal government for the NIN project.

Crime / Re: EFCC Arrests 115 Abokis In Enugu And Collects N110m, $8368 by panpan(m): 11:11pm On Feb 22
What was the purpose of the Economic And Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) going after bureau de change (BDC) operators?

The law of demand and supply will always take its course.
The fundamental question is this: Who is expected to be the primary source of foreign currency transactions to the public?
It is the banks.

The Central Bank sells dollars in bulk to the commercial banks. However, the foreign currency transactions are not provided directly by the banks. A bank customer has to purchase foreign currency from outside the bank, before he can make a deposit for an international transaction.

As for the allegations of currency speculation, the federal government previously made a decision to float the naira. They have got their wish.
