One of the lesson i learned is that one should endeavour to have a very big farm. This will assist in easy transportation to market. For example, my first harvest was 5 bags. It was difficult to get transportation to farm because I can not chatter a vehicle/car for just 5 bags. But if the farm is very big, the first and second harvest will be much.
It's true. Wisdom.

Agriculture / Re: Your Questions And Challenges About Farmlands by Pappyshoes(m): 9:46am On Nov 17, 2014
bamiwale:
Question: How many plots of land are in an acre?

This depends on how the so called plot is measured in your area.

For a 50ft by 100ft plot, there are about 8.7 plots.
For a 50ft by 120ft plot, there are about 6 plots.
For a 100ft by 100ft plot, there are about 4.3 plots.

I hope this helps.
Thank you.

Pls, do you have land for rentage in Ogun? In case you don't, can you connect one to someone that has?

Agriculture / Re: Your Questions And Challenges About Farmlands by Pappyshoes(m): 8:04pm On Nov 11, 2014
bamiwale:

The issue of collecting money before taking people to inspect land is a way of mitigating cost of transportation on the part of the land sellers.
Some of the land sellers take tens of people for inspection every week. Imagine the accumulated cost of taking even 10 people to inspect land every week. However some sellers are more farmer friendly and charge for nothing more than the transportation cost of going for the inspection.

It takes understanding on the part of land sellers to minimize the burden on farmers. But I advise that prospective land buyers should be careful before giving out ones hard earned money to anyone in the name of land agent.
Thanks for your response. Regards.

Akinyele and Egbeda local governments in Oyo; Ayedaade, Irewole and Isokan in Osun.

Thanks bro.
An issue I will like you to address is the issue of someone demanding huge amount of money from you before you can check the location of the land to rent/lease(as much as #10,000). I'm not advocating for charity but won't that be a discouraging factor for pursuance of a dream considering the fact that many people are still finding it hard to save money to buy land permanently?

Sure you must pay a fee of N10k to visit it is not a voluntry services.
Fertile soil with very few trees
Bro, we are not saying it's a voluntary service or charity, neither are we questioning your charges, but honestly this your 10k for visit is like a chasing monster for upcoming farmers. That 10k is even enough to rent about 7 acres. Why don't you make it more attractive so as not to fence would-be farmers out of the opportunity. Just my opinion.

We also have 300 acres for lease good for agriculture @N1500 per acre per year minimum lease year is 3yrs ..Call me on 08136650972

How fertile is the land for agricultural purposes? Can we visit before venturing into it? Hope we won't have to pay to check this since it's to be rented. I have friends that want to rent land for planting purpose but when they hear of payment to check, they get discouraged. Your quick response will be appreciated, thanks.

About the land purchase, there are places I can suggest to you in Oyo and Osun states but for the distance from your location. Coming to farm in Oyo or Osun state is complete relocation and demands a lot from someone that is a bit far like you. I hope people that are closer to you who know places that does not have the issues you have raised above would kindly suggest such to you on this thread.
All the best.
Like where in Oyo or Osun? Thanks.

thanks for your input never knew they were Technisem's seed.. have been finding a way to get some seeds (Paw Paw and others) from them..
would i have to be buying the seeds every year from them or can i use the ones i get from the first harvest for onward planting?
I think I ve answered your question. If you are dealing with high volume of seeds, you may have to be buying. Others that have successfully planted seeds from their harvest can throw more light by sharing their experience anyway.

Animal Science will also expose you to knowledge of poultry management, how to manage your stock for effective egg production, what to give per time and per stage, the vaccinations to give at particular age, when to vaccinate, when to cage and when to cull.
If you are versatile in all these areas, you can get a very good job from various egg producing poultry farms. A lot of people are failing in poultry business today 'cos their staff do not have meaningful knowledge about poultry management. You can also own your farm and become the CEO.
More to come, it's quite more than poultry.....

Do one still have to buy another seed for next year planting (Can I save some seeds from the harvest for replanting)?

Let me try to answer your question. I will advise you go for buying of the seed. It pays off at the end 'cos the seed would have been specially treated to be resistant or tolerant to some diseases. Technisem usually coat their seeds with fosin which is an antifungal substance, everyone you plant germinates(my experience ). I believe others will have ways of protecting their seeds too. Make enquiry and get best variety based on your purpose of planting.

y dnt u guys jst visit Aso rock and ask the Zoologist occupant from otuoke, he is in best positio to answer dis.
Guy, Zoology is not Animal Science, don't get it mixed up. Animal science is more about livestock animals, chicken, turkeys, quails, broilers, even fish etc. With Animal science, you can formulate or produce Feed for different categories of birds, this means you can be employed by livestock feed producing companies like Animal Care, Top feed, Hybrid feed, Ace feed, OFN. etc. But, you must be good at your field in order to survive the interview. More to come....

Son, you will need a doctor like once in three months,
A lawyer, once in about 10years,
A mechanical engineer only if ur car breaks down,
A pharmacist only when sick.
But a farmer, at least thrice a day, sick or healthy, happy or sad.

One funny thing about farming, what we plant grows daily and mature to harvest,.and our care determines the harvest. But if you don't plant today, what do we care for, and what do we harvest later? ....This is the reason for the bushes around your houses and along our express roads. Oil price is falling, agriculture is the way out. How was your night?
