Kalusam:
Great work and your soil is indeed suitable for this. How much did you get the hybrid seeds?
It's actually a mix of sandy loamy soil, water retention is very low.
Hybrid seeds' costs: F1 Koloss....N1,600.00 per can of 50 gramms. Kaolack....N4,000 per can of 500 gramms.

Day 21: This is F1 Koloss variety, fruit can weigh as high as 10-12Kg. It's one of the biggest hybrid varieties around.

@ Magnam, great work, keep it up.
18-10-14... It rained heavily today, but I transplanted some water melon seedlings (F1 Koloss) and planted some seeds(Kaolack). I couldn't spray the grown ones with the Cypeforce 'cos of heavy downpour. Today's weather is favourable for transplanted ones, thank God.

Confusion over release of audit report of 14 banks
The release of the audited report of the remaining 14 banks is now an issue of controversy within the rank of top management of  Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN. While some move for a similar treatment with the first five bank chief executives, others kick against it.

But Daily Sun’s source revealed that the CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi,  is now cautious of his actions following the uproar that greeted his sacking of the five bank chief executives and the injection of N420 billion into the ailing banks.

According to the source, although the remaining 14 banks are not terminally ill like the first five, large volumes of non-performing loans were discovered.

The 14 banks whose audited accounts are now awaiting publication include,   Skye Bank, PHB, Ecobank, Zenith Bank, First City Merchant Bank (FCMB), Fidelity Bank, IBTC, Unity Bank, Citi Bank, Standard Chartered Bank, Spring Bank, Access Bank, Wema Bank and Equatorial Trust Bank.

Sanusi had, at the last 210 Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting  two weeks ago announced that the auditing of 11 banks had been concluded. But last week, Daily Sun’s  source revealed  that the auditing of the remaining  two banks had been done, wondering why the delay in publishing the names of the banks with large volumes of non-performing loans.

The hurried sacking of the chief executives of five banks and the injection of N420 billion in the economy  attracted some bashings from stakeholders in the industry who suggested that the powers of the apex bank be whittled down.

But CBN had argued that any move to amend the CBN Act would  prevent the CBN from playing its role as lender of last resort.

Besides, he said not only would it be counter-productive, it will also be  unprecedented in the history of central banking in the world as this would simply make it difficult for the Central Bank of Nigeria to perform its vital role of ensuring the safety and soundness of the financial system.

The CBN Act empowers the CBN to manage money supply in the economy through different mechanisms.  The CBN, as banker to other banks, has been increasing money supply by lending money to the banks through the Expanded Discount Window (EDW) and the injection of the N420b into the five banks is similar to that function.

The money is not from the government treasury and the CBN does not require any appropriation by the National Assembly in order to perform this function which in any event, is not often foreseeable,” CBN insisted.

Sacked Bank Chiefs Arraigned
August 31, 2009 15:18 (49 minutes ago), 139 views

By Akin Kuponiyi & Henry Ojelu

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has filed charges against 16 bank chiefs arrested for incurring N2.1 trillion in bad loans for five ailing banks.

They were charged this afternoon, at about 2.pm at  the Federal High Court in Ikoyi, with many lawyers and journalists crowding the premises.

“The cases have been filed. All the bankers are already in court,” said Femi Babafemi in an interview with P.M News today.

“We got the approval of the attorney-general of the federation to file the charges’’, Babafemi told the AFP in an interview earlier today.

The bank bosses were arraigned following the completion of investigation into their activities by the EFCC.

As at the time of going to press, the charges were being read in the court.

The Head of EFCC’s Legal Department, Mr Hassan had earlier filed charges against the banks’ chiefs. However, he refused to disclose details of the charges.

The CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi announced the sack of five banks executives and their management on friday,14 August, this year. The affected banks are: Oceanic Bank, Intercontinental Bank, Union Bank, Afri Bank and FinBank Plc.

The apex bank also appointed a new management for the five banks, which according to the apex bank, were on the brink of collapse.

While some of the debtors disputed the loans credited against their names in the CBN list, a few have been paying back in bits.

The EFCC has so far arrested over 100 debtors of the troubled banks. Some of the bank executives including Erastus Akingbola of Intercontinental Bank were said to have escaped overseas. But EFCC chairman, Mrs. Farida Waziri said in Lagos last week at a press briefing that the banks’ management and debtors who escaped overseas will be tracked down by International Police (Interpol).

AC wishes me dead — Aondoakaa [Read Article]

Ihuoma Chiedozie, Abuja

Of what benefit are you to Nigeria? Is it not even better if the likes of you vanish from limelight in Nigeria.Of what importance is a man that has become a liability to Nigeria and has turned himself to a defender of corrupt public officials and politicians. If u said that they wish u dead,so be it.

Nigerians deserves an apology and a change of purpose from the AGF for the many deliberately bungled corruption cases under your watch, your continued liasons with indicted corrupt ex-govt officials, your brief takings on behalf of those officials.EFFC was a vibrant corruption fighting agency until your advents as AGF when you clipped it`s wing, took brief for it`s clients instead of for the agency. It is we,the people, that deserves an apology from you and not you from the AC.

It is an understatement that the AC wish you dead, in fact every Nigerian wish you were dead long ago because from all indication, it's only death that can stop you from waging war against anti-corruption by using your so-called office to shield corrupt public officials both past and present from being prosecuted.

The continue staying alive of people like you, Ibori, Tinubu, Obj, IBB, David mark, and co is inimical to the development of Nigeria and dangerous for the unborn generations. So you don’t even want to die. I bet all of you revolution is coming that will see all of you dead. Thunder fire all of una from National Assembly to Aso Rock, to the LGs looters.

I would want to state that while it's alright to criticize Aondoakaa the matter of deliberate shielding of corrupt government officials has gone way beyond Aondoakaa himself. For Chirst sake the man reports to and gets his instructions from somebody in Aso Rock and it's safe to assmue that he's under direct or indirect instructions to shield certain corrupt government officials from prosecution. That Yar'Adua has bluntly refused to fire him speaks volumes as to who is actuall calling the shots.
