@spade spade:If it took 9hours you'll need to check your system. my vb2003 took about 30min(or there about). @tonyblu Whichever you choose of java, C++, VB2005 will be worth your while. VB2005 enble you to develop apps. very rapidly but only for windows platform (?for now). It is easy to learn. VB2005 compiler is not free (but for the express edition) http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/install/ , though somehow our people get by. Java and C++ is easily portable to other O/S but learning curve may be a bit steeper. and development may not be as rapid as for vb2005. You'll get their compilers free. |
Go back there and buy the right one from someone trustworthy, insist on testing it before paying. There is a very big difference between VB2005 and VB.Net 2003. The .NET framework they were built for is different. Else download the express edition, free from microsoft: http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/install/ Though some features are missing which you may not miss untill you get to a certain level, it's almost like the real thing Or Get a reputable store to buy the genuine CD, you'll surely pay through your nose |
@adewaleafolabi There is a lot of difference in VB6 and VB.NET(VB2005), as much different as 6 is to 2005 ![]() In fact VB 2005 is a language that only support VB6 just for backward compatibility and probably to ease the pain of migrating from VB6. Microsoft is no longer interested in VB6, So depending on what you're looking for choose just one of them(I advise VB2005) I noticed people start teaching a programming language in this forum and later abandon it, so I wonder if I won't get tired if I start. You can ask questions for people to answer. To wet your appetite for VB2005 I'll try and post a write up on what .NET framework is all about by the end of the week. Sure we'll get many people to put in their contributions |
Rush for it www.java.sun.com Though there are other programming languages, java seems to have a lot of hype surrounding it (not fluke though). It's easy to learn, though you'll never stop learning, your apps can be easily proted across platforms with little or no alteration in your code etc. Other languages worth considering are VB2005, C#(both restrict you to windows), C++,C, |
You got into trap on a railway for an on coming train to ?run into you (or grind you). What caused your death? For stupid people, it's the train. They could have jumped into a well anyway. Pneumonia has a definite cure and would not ordinarily kill. Tuberculosis was on it's way to extinction until the advent of HIV. There are drugs that takes good care of ordinary Tb effectively. When it concerns HIV, let's get serious and pass real, plain, "unsarcastic" message. Internet is the only place some people consult for information. |
Guys, the first reported case dated back to 1986 in the US. Whether it is a product of biological/genetic engineering or any other form of human scientific endeavour or whether HIV originated from Africa or not is not really too important now. Dollars in no small amount has been sinked into getting a cure (which is still elusive) for this condition. Even if it is meant to depopulate Africa you almost can choose not to be a victim. Most of the "suffering millions" had the choice but they were not wise with it (excuse me regarding those unfortunate few who got it through no fault of theirs, and dependants of PLWH/A). This is largely because the people of Africa (largest number of affected population) hold this notion expressed by walaty and ememJU above, so they didn't heed all the warnings being given. Let's spread the word. There's no cure yet. The most common means of contacting the virus is by sexual intercourse. So zip up, or stay faithful to your patner (whichever applies to you). Stop discrimination against people living with AIDS/HIV. AIDS no dey show for face |
@dakmanzero There is nothing wrong in katherinae's opinion. A doctor explains all options available to the patient, help in guiding his choice, but the ultimate decision is taken by the patient. If your patient takes an option you don't agree with, you can always decline him your services. |
@andor Get yourself on the move. Once you installed VB.NET (VB2005 better) let's know and tell us what you know so far so that. You'll see the extent people will go here to teach you. |
@andor Let me save you having to wait for response to your thread. The cheapest place (probably will be free) is at your computer. Get and install at least the vb2005 Express edition (it's free) from http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/install/ Get free ebooks scattered all over the internet and read. Try http://www.xpressionsz.com/archives/category/programming/page/1/ You probably can ask someone to give you a computer for free( or lend you) Get yourself some free time. Mandatory. Post problems and questions on nairaland forum for answers (No charges yet) Make friends with someone who knows better than you are (and poke him for ideas). How freer can it get? Definitely cheaper than you thought! Unfortunately there may be no fast way as you'll forever be learning new things. Microsoft may bring another "groundbreaking" technology in 2 years, you'll have to join the train. VB is the only language that can set you on your programming feet in shortest time possible. Arguably? |
Can someone help me out here, the links in those post is suppose to be naijamatters but nairaland keep coming out when I posted them. I tried modifying but did not work. |
Sure we all remember sometimes ago someone littered nairaland withplea to join his forum at nairaland.com . NOt that anything is wrong with thatm, so out of curiosity I checked the site and alas what I saw,- verbatim copying of nairaland thread without giving any credit, he even pretend like he and some other fictitious individuals wrote those contributions. Most painful is the "Learning java without tears" initiated by mimoh_mi. you can check these threads lifted from nairaland's programming forum, who knows how much he'd have copied from other forums. http://www.naijamatters.com/viewtopic.php?t=400 http://www.naijamatters.com/viewtopic.php?t=396 http://www.naijamatters.com/viewtopic.php?t=392 http://www.naijamatters.com/viewtopic.php?t=388 http://www.naijamatters.com/viewtopic.php?t=384 I think it is not right, or maybe Seun gave the permission. No matter what, lifting of someone else's intellectual work without permission and giving credit is piracy, robbery (and any other such names). Is the guy just showing the nigerianness in him? I pity those people who strive to meet his condition to get the free website, this is a shrewd, yet to be re-birthed Nigerian( if he really is). |

@skima Thanks I just saw them. I'll get back to you regarding them. |
@skima sorry please, it is supposed to be parosky1@yahoo.com I'd want the ubuntu but I'm in Abuja and you are probably in Lag. I have version 5.12 yours should be 6.06 (Dapper Drake) since you just got it. Can you tell me some of the differences you've seen? I hope to be able to get it elsewhere. |
@Skima, Rock2 You guys have it now. Skima you can please send the c, c++ books to me maybe one day I'll think it's time for them. I only do vb & java for now |
@ajiboyet Yes I write vb6 and now vb.net. All those flavours are basic but if you try vb.net you'll be in for a wonderful surprise Bad I've not tried any other flavour of basic, but I intend making out a weekend out to check Liberty basic. I've been hearing about it. |
@ajiboyet You are in to a good place. There will be sure many people to tutor you here. You should decide which flavour of vb you want, the classic vb6 or vb2005 which is the in-thing. Then get the studio for whichever you want and let's know. If you want to go with vb2005 (which I will advice) you can download the vbexpress studio (the watered down version of the real thing though, works beautifully well, a learner won't know the difference, until he starts reaching for bigger fish.) free from here http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/support/install/ vb6 studio is not free, microsoft doesn't support it again, VB2005 is built on .NET framework which is microsoft's latest technology (and for the future!). Somewhere down the line vb2005 makes your job easier, writting comparatively fewer lines of codes (if you will be able to compare both). But then vb6 is arguably easier to learn. Lets know what your decision is. |
Which BASIC? Sure not QBasic, turbo basic and the likes. You'll be lucky to see one person that will do serious work with them. But talk about visual basic and similar flavour, you'll find many in a short time. I am one. Wait for more. |
@riana, sent yours twice again today and was returned twice. Give a yahoo or hotmail or "whoever" else will let you recieve an attachment of at least 8.71MB or wait for pfowighz who promised to send it to you in bits and pieces. If you get no response from him by 4-5 days I'll send them in bits to you. Sorry. |
@fokosky, you should have it by now. @riana, if you don't have it now, supply another email adress that is not gmail, maybe yahoo. The first one I sent to you was returned undelivered |
@fokosky, you should have it by now. |
@fokosky you've got no email address |
@ riana33, yours was returned undelivered. Is 8.71MB attachment beyond what gmail allowed? |
@riana, @ahtasham82, @pfowighz you should have the file by now in your email. if you don't get it, indicate here |
Start teaching it now or why else are you asking. |
@sbucareer, I know this thread is your bride now and you'll definitely come here today, but you have an unfinished business here https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-18462.0.html Waiting for you there. Just put anything there. Thanks. |
sbuCareer you started this business(thread), you must continue and finish it. pls. |
Your question has been discussed before elsewhere in nairaland. mySql is one of the many relational database management system (RDBMS) in exisitence. Oracle, MS Server are others. MS access alos qualifies. sql is like a language by which you interact with such RDBMS. mySql is a database system. It speaks and understand sql Visit https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-15100.0.html Download mysql here http://dev.mysql.com/downloads/index.html you have many options for php, check them on google. |
Seun do you think the file in question can be uploaded into this forum. Guys just wait I'll send it to you (your email) both soon (I'm at a cybercafe and I don't have the file around here.) I think guys can write their email address in the usual notation @ ahtasham82, I hope your email address is ahtasham82 @TheRateOf hotmail . com |
Seems this thread does not interest sbucareer, or anybody at all. Sbucareer continue o pls. I already made a GUI based on the diagram you gave. What else need to be in the menus. |
Can't wait for this to get started. It probably can be extended to cover as many format as it possibly can. @diddy, just get your jdk(Version1.5.0 possibly) and a text editor and you are ready to roll. Or what else do you want to know? |
Java is very much alive. I ran EXACTLY the same code on both Windows and Linux and there is not much difference. Just a very little variation in the dimensions of the swing (GUI) components which should not take long to adjust to make it look exactly like it was on WIndows. This gladdens the heart. Doesn't it? Write once, Run anywhere (even on the race track ) |
