When ICJ makes Britain and other colonial 'masters' pay Nigeria and other African countries in kind the over 400 years of slavery, colonization and the rest. Stop comparing Nigeria to the western world, they have their own lapses too |
We should also consider Deuteronomy 6:16 , which instructs the Israelites to be careful that they do not to tempt the Lord. Likewise, Malachi 3:15 refers to the wicked who tempt God with their evil lifestyles. Jesus even quoted the Old Testament Scriptures when He warned others not to tempt the Lord (e.g., Matthew 4:7 and Luke 4:12 ). Today we mostly use the term tempt specifically to mean to “solicit to do evil.” However, the term has not always been quite so narrowly interpreted. In the Bible this word conveys that idea at times, but at other times it means to “put to the test.” The context helps to determine which meaning is intended. James clearly stated, “God cannot be tempted by evil ” . The phrase “by evil” is important because it highlights the point James was trying to make. This clearly indicates that God cannot be enticed to commit evil. In the other passages above that referred to tempting God, the writers were using the term to mean we must not put God to the test. Here is the line of reasoning: 1. God has said He will judge sin. 2. When we sin, we are putting God to the test to see if He will respond to our sin by doing what He has said He will do. 3. We must not “test” the extent of God’s grace but instead obey what He has told us to do. Now, along with this question of whether or not God can be tempted, another potential dilemma arises, which is often stated like this: 1. James 1:13 tells us God cannot be tempted by evil. 2. According to Luke 4, Matthew 4, and Hebrews 4:15 , Jesus was tempted by evil. 3. Therefore, Jesus was not God or this is a contradiction. There are two keys to understanding this mystery. First, we must keep in mind the hypostatic union of the two natures of Christ. That’s a pretty fancy way of saying that Jesus was fully man and fully God at the same time. Jesus had a fully human nature (but sinless), and He had the nature of God. Second, it is important to understand the difference between internal enticement and external enticement. When Jesus was tempted, His temptation came from an external source: Satan (Luke 4:2 ; Matthew 4:1 ). When we are tempted, this comes right from within our own hearts due to our own sinful natures, although the temptation to sin can be kindle by something external. James 1:14 tells us, “But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed.” So could Jesus sin or not? This question has been debated by theologians for centuries, and although all true Christians agree that Jesus did not sin, they do not agree on whether or not He could have sinned. Other than agreeing that Jesus did not sin, Answers in Genesis does not hold a position on this debate. We would urge you to carefully and prayerfully study Scripture and consult with your local church on this subject. There are three common views on the subject. Some hold the impeccability position (Latin non posse peccare ). This view states that Christ could not have sinned, and thus was not even tempted, during the “temptations.” Others hold the peccability view (posse non peccare ), meaning that He could have sinned. A third position attempts to find middle ground and is based on Christ having both a human nature and divine nature. This view says that in His human nature, He could have sinned, but in His divine nature, He could not. |
3 PIECES OF ADVICE OR 20 YEARS OF SALARY
A very poor newly wedded, young couple lived in a
small farm. One day the husband made the
following proposal to his wife:
- Honey, I will leave the house: I will travel
faraway, get a job and work hard in order to come
back and give you the comfortable life that you
deserve. I do not know how long I will stay away,
I only ask one thing, please wait for me, and
while
I am away, you should be faithful to me, bcoz I
will be faithful to you.
So the young man left. He walked many days
until he found a farmer who was in need of
someone to help him. The young man offered his
services. He was accepted. Therefore he
discussed the terms with his boss: - Let me work
for as long as I want and when I
think I should go home, please relieve me of my
duties. I do not want to receive my salary. I ask
you to save it for me, until the day I leave. The
day I decide to go, please give me the money and
I will go my way.
They agreed on that. So, the young man worked
for twenty years without holiday and without rest.
After twenty years, he came to his boss and said:
- Boss, I want my money, because I am returning
to my home.
The boss replied:- All right, after all, I made a
deal with you and I
will stick to it. However, before you go I want to
offer you something new: I will give you all your
money and send you away; or I will give you 3
pieces of advice and send you away. If I give you
the money, I do not give you the 3 pieces of
advice. And if I give you the 3 pieces of advice, I
will not give you the money. Now, go to your
room and think about your answer.
He thought for two days. Then he went to the
boss and told him:
- I want the 3 pieces of advice. The boss stressed
again:- If I give you the 3 pieces of advice, I will
not
give you the money.
And the man replied:
- I want the 3 pieces of advice. The boss then
told him:-
1: Never take shortcuts in your life, shorter
and unknown paths can cost your life.
2: Never be too curious, for curiosity
towards evil can be deadly.
3: Never make decisions in moments of anger or
pain, bcoz when you repent, it could be too late.
After giving these 3 pieces of advice, the boss
said to him:
- Here, you have 3 loaves of bread, 2 are for you
to eat during the journey and the last is for you
to eat with your wife when you get home.
So, the man went his way, after twenty years
away from home and from his wife, whom he
loved so much. After the first day of travel, he
found a man who
greeted him and asked:- Where are you going? He
replied:- To a distant place which is about 20
days away
if I continue walking.
The man said to him:
- O boy, this path is too long! I know a shortcut
that is very safe and you will arrive in 5 days
only.
The man began to follow the path suggested until
he remembered the first piece of advice. Then, he
returned and followed the long path. Days later he
learned that the shortcut led to an ambush.
After a few more days of travel, he found an inn
by the roadside, where he could rest. He paid for
a room and after taking a bath he lay down to
sleep.
During the night he woke up as he heard a
terrifying scream. He rose to his feet and went to
the door to check what happened. As he was
opening the door, he remembered the second
piece of advice. Therefore he returned, lay down
again and slept.
At dawn, after breakfast, the owner of the lodging
asked him if he had not heard the scream at
night. He affirmed that he heard. Then, the host
said:
- Were you not curious to see what happened?
And he replied:
- No, I was not.
Then the host said:
- You are the first guest to leave this inn alive.
My neighbour is completely crazy. He usually
shouts at night to call someone’s attention. When
some of the guests come out, he kills them and
buries their bodies in the backyard.
The man continued his long journey, eager to
arrive soon. After many days and nights walking,
he was very tired, but he finally saw his house
far away.
It was night. He saw some light coming out of
the window of his house and was able to see the
silhouette of his wife. But he also saw that she
was not alone. He came closer and saw there
was a man with her. She softly caressed his hair.
When he saw that scene, his heart was filled with
hatred and bitterness. He decided to rush at and
kill them both mercilessly. However, he took a
deep breath and he remembered the third piece of
advice. Then he stopped, reflected and decided to
sleep
outside that night. He slept in the midst of the
bushes, determined to make a decision the next
day. At dawn, he was calmer and thought:
- I will not kill my wife and her lover. I am going
back to my boss to ask him to take me back. But
before I go, I want to tell my wife that I have
always been faithful to her.
He went to the front door and knocked.
When his wife opened the door & recognized him,
she cried and embraced him warmly. He tried to
push her away, but he was not able. Then, with
tears
in his eyes he told her:
- I was faithful to you but you betrayed me.
She was shocked, so she replied:
- How did I betray you? I have never betrayed
you. I waited patiently for you for twenty good
years.
Then he asked:
- How about the man that u were caressing
yesterday? And she said:- That man is your son.
When you left, I
discovered I was pregnant. Today he is twenty
years old.
Hearing that, the man asked her forgiveness. He
met and hugged his son. Then he told them all
the things he had experienced while away.
Meanwhile, his wife prepared some coffee for
them to eat together, the last bread given by his
boss.
After a prayer of thanksgiving, he broke the
bread. When he looked at it, he found all his
money inside. In fact, there was even more than
the right
payment for his twenty years of dedication and
hard work.
Friends, our God is like this boss. When he asks
us to make a sacrifice, he wants to give us more
than what we give Him. He wants us to have His
unique wisdom as well as the material blessings.
Someone sent this piece to me and it blessed me
and I copied it to you. Feel free to share it too |

I used to quote from the book of Chenethians until my kids caught on that there was no such book: "Heaven does for those who do their own dishes." Nice try, dad. There are many sayings that sound like they could have been pronounced by Charlton Heston in "The Ten Commandments" but aren't even close. Some have basis in holy writ but are more fable than actual scripture. Lets start with one that is an actual fable: ##God helps those who help themselves This is originally from a story told about Hercules, who was asked for help in a prayer given by a mere human. Hercules answered by saying that the man should "get up and help himself," or something equally as cheerful. Aesop was the writer -- he of fable fame. ##Cleanliness is next to godliness I personally have found that cleanliness is next to impossible and I think I am clever every time I say that. Neither one of these sayings is in the Bible. This super-squeaky quote was authored by evangelist John Wesley. ##Pride goes before a fall Makes sense. It's "the bigger they are the harder they crash" sort of thing. Proverbs 16:18 is as close as it gets, and it reads: "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall." You can see the correlation. Parenthetically, modern technology makes it just plain silly to get a quote wrong. Today, anyone can google search for accuracy or origination. People can't make up stuff and blame the Bible like they use to. It's too easy to conduct a simple etymology/phraseology check. So, when football great Mike Ditka quoted the Bible and said "this too shall pass" he should have been alluding to his offence. But no, he mistakenly referenced the Bible in a press conference that followed his being fired as head coach at Chicago. It did, indeed, pass. Often a verse is quoted from or attributed to the Apostles Peter or Paul, when it is instead more something Peter, Paul or Mary would have hummed. ##Hate the sin, but love the sinner This is a slight alteration of an idea of Mahatma Gandhi's, who said, "Hate the sin and not the sinner". I prefer "Love one another", which has a richer and deliberate biblical pedigree. ##Spare the rod, spoil the child This comes close to what is actually in the old testament. Proverbs 13:24: reads "The one who spareth the rod hateth his son." I do not hate my son. Neither, however, do I own a rod. Everyone's safe. Be in the world, but not of the world It's a shortened version of John 17:14-15. "I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world." ##God will not give you more than you can handle 1st Corinthians 10:13 reads "There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." This saying based on this scripture gets to the meat of the issue. ##Idle hands are the devil's workshop They may be, but not in the Bible. 1 Timothy 5:13 does refer to those that are idle, and not in a positive way. ##God works in mysterious ways Yes He does. " For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways" says Isaiah 55:8-9. But this quote is from 19th century poem by William Cowper. ##"The lion shall lay down with the lamb" comes really close. Isaiah 11:6 reads "And the wolf will dwell with the lamb, and the leopard will lie down with the young goat, and the calf and the young lion and the fat-ling together; and a little boy will lead them" "To thine own self be true " was said to Hamlet's friend Laertes by the latter's father Polonius. "This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man." ##"A fool and his money are soon parted" True – a lovely proverb that is not in the Book of Proverbs. ##"A roman coin saved is a roman coin earned" – OK, it's a penny, but it's still not in the bible -- though it's a saying that goes back to the 17th century. ##"Charity begins at home" was first found in the writings of 14th century Brit John Wycliffe and was originally in German. It translates as, "Charity begins with ones-self". Apparently, so do a lot of Biblical quotes. source: familyshare |
