Federer overpowers Roddick 7-6, 7-6, 6-2 to book a place in the SF. Federer surprisingly out-aced Roddick 15-14!!!. He will face Davydenko, who is yet to drop a set in this tournament. The other men's SF will be between Djoko/Moya and Ferrer/Chela. Venus will seek to avenge her sister's loss to Henin when they meet. She outlasted the second Serbian in her path, Jankovic 4-6, 6-1, 7-6. Venus holds a 7-1 head to head career record against Henin. We shall have a Russian in the final as the two other semi-finalists are Russians - Chakvetadze and Kuznetsova. |

I'm glad Federer finally found a way to handle the monstrous serve taking the next two sets 6-4, 6-2. Federer will play Feliciano Lopez in the fourth round, the Spaniard beating Donald Young in four sets to book his own progression. Blake beat Koubek 6-4, 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 to progress to the next round. Unlike the Swiss Master, the female Swiss representatives could not go beyond the third round. Martina Hingis was beaten 6-3, 1-6, 0-6 by Azarenka while Schnyder was also beaten 6-4, 4-6, 6-7 by Paszek. Even though she she hit 36 winners compared with her opponent's 18, she made like more than twice unforced errors (48) than her opponent (23). Roddick is through to the round of 16. He beat Johansson is straight sets (6-3, 6-2, 6-0). Federer and Isner are playing at the moment. Isner has hit more aces (48) than anybody in this tournament so far, 30 more than Federer. |
Guess what guys! Defending Champ, Shriekapova has been ousted in the third round by polish number one, Radwanska!!! She was beaten 4-6, 6-1, 2-6. Another Russian also crashed out - Petrova was beaten 6-4, 6-4 by Szavay. Davydenko and Chakvetadze gave the russians something to smile about when Davy beat Almagro to advance to the next round. Chakvetadze crushed Indian number one, Mirza to go into the round of 16. |

Henman has finally retired. He was thrashed by Tsonga 7-6, 2-6, 7-5, 6-4. Tsonga will now meet Nadal, who advanced to the third round when Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic retired in the third set after receiving treatment for a rib injury. The Spaniard was leading 6-2 6-3 3-2 when Tipsarevic approached him during the changeover, shook his hand and announced he had to quit the match after one hour, 38 minutes. Hewitt was also thrashed by Calleri. He was beaten 4-6, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2. Calleri faces Juan Monaco next. Jankovic ultimately won her third round match by taking the next two sets. She said she under-estimated her opponent, Cornet in the first set. She faces Bammer in the round of 16; Bammer thrashed Dementieva 6-1, 6-2. Ivanovic and Venus will face off in the next round. They both eased into the round of 16 in straight sets. Venus has a 3-0 career record against Ivanovic. Serena meets Bartoli in the round of 16. The other eight female players, in the round of 16, will be known today. Schnyder, Hingis, Petrova, Vaidisova, Peer, Sharapova, Mirza, Chakvetadze, Kuznetsova, Vakulenko would be hoping to be among the players. |

American number one Andy Roddick, meanwhile, was leading Jose Acasuso 4-6 6-1 6-2 when the Argentine was forced to retire with a knee injury, allowing the fifth seed to move into the third round. French 13th seed Richard Gasquet has pulled out of the U.S. Open because of fever and a sore throat. The Wimbledon semi-finalist's withdrawal handed American Donald Young a walkover into the third round. Hingis, Chakvetadze, Peer, Kuznetsova, Schnyder, Mirza are all safely through to the next round.
