I ain’t a Republican and/or Trump supporter, but the reality is that even if you confiscate the entire wealth of billionaires and multimillionaires, and zero out the entire Pentagon budget, the federal deficit would still be in the trillions of dollars (or at best, hover around $800 billion) annually.

The big elephant in the room is the “entitlement” spending, which makes up the majority of federal spending.

So, unfortunately, if this country is serious about greatly reducing the deficit, then cuts to the entitlement programs would be needed. Of course, there won’t be wholesale cuts due to the political fallout that would ensue. The political environment only permits a president and Congress to make relatively piece-meal cuts to those programs.
