Yes, I'm aware of that. I even sent them a mail, and they said that Nigerians are not eligible to apply (for now), maybe because the JET application for 2020 has closed or they just don't accept Nigerians at all.
Which is weird because I've checked the embassy websites of some other African countries and the JET program wasn't advertised on their page, but it was on the Nigerian page.

Maybe I'll look at applying to schools directly.

What I read their website is you should apply or I should say ask? for embassy first.
And their recruiment schedule is around October to November.

Everything is embassy.
Have you ask them?

I'm sorry, I don't know that.
But I think Embassy of Japan in Nigeria introduce JET program, that mean you can apply from Nigeria.
I'm not sure.

JET program have 3 type of work.
1, ALT (Assistant Language Teacher)
2, CIR (Coordinator for International Relations)
3, SEA (Sports Exchange Advisor)

You can check it on their website.
And teaching English work, some English school can apply from abroad.
