I notice the overhoverheating whenever I get to my destination, and off the engine, the coolant will just pour out . It is usually worse when I use the a.c. I think it is related to a.c operation

What are the likely causes of overheating on a second generation Xterra (05+)? Does the cooling system need bleeding when you add coolant ? How do I know if the water pump is working or not?

Hoses not leaking
Coolant filled to normal level
No thermostat
Radiator cold after long drive but the other plastic boils and throws water away when I park
Fan working well

You just need to work on the governor any engine can be used to generate electricity after all all it needs to produce is torque.

which one is governor again? Na only state governor I know o!

Electrical Generating set, is simply the coupling together of two main units, (1) the prime mover =diesel or petrol engines (mechanical). (2)electrical part which is the alternator. the alternator comes with it's power ratings, voltage types i.e 3phase=380-415v or single phase=220-240v.,rotating speed (rpm),power inVA or KVA,power factor cos phi,etc.in the case of vehicles engine conversion,JUST MAKE SURE OF THE FOLLOWINGS .
-rotational speed rpm of the engine correlate with that of the alternator's.
-the power rating of the engine in W or KW is slightly MORE than that of the alternator's VA or KVA .
-equip the engine with an automatic fuel actuator or governor.
-equip the alternator with an automatic voltage regulator AVR
YOU WILL SEE ALL THE ENGINE & ALTERNATOR'S RATINGS ON THEIR NAME PLATES .

TCM is Transmission Control Module. You could call it the "brain box" of the transmission. Just keep us posted. Happy motoring.

It's an interesting experiment. You'd have to keep us posted on your experience. I guess the surgery was accompanied with a tcm. Yes, keep your scanner handy.

The surgery was rather direct. I don't know what tcm is, but it was just the aluminium head (locally called Agbada) that was changed. If that is the tcm, then yes. Otherwise, nothing more was changed.
Other than driving the car from Lagos to my location, I haven't really rocked the vehicle that much. But from my first experience, I expected a 4.0 ltr engine to be like jet, which by my assessment, this is not.

I think it's a general problem (factory design defect) with the model years of your Xterra as well as it's sister the Pathfinder. Radiator fluid percolates into transmission and ruins the tcm inside it. But I guess a bypass is now common knowledge to address the issue. Perhaps not being aware of that your mechanics suggested instead that you should throw away the baby with the dirty water. We can only hope that the new baby is not congenitally challenged.

Is there any way of knowing if there are any issues with the tranny? I have a scanner if it can help in the diagnosis.

Apologies for the late response.

I bought the vehicle with a faulty tranny unknowingly. After efforts to fix the original tranny failed, I had to change it. It was at that point that I was advised by the local mechanics that the RE4R01A tranny is stronger and more rugged than the 5 speed tranny.

So basically, local mechanics advise.

I'm unfamiliar with the terminology "electric transmission" in this context, but I presume what you're proposing is replacing the 5-speed transmission (RE5R05A) that comes with your Xterra of 4.0L engine (VQ40) with the 4-speed transmission (RE4R01A) available in the Pathfinder/QX4 with VQ35 engine. The RE4F01A is used also for the Xterra (VG33E/VG33ER) before 2005. I wouldn't agree that the RE5R05A is less "rugged and durable." That's the transmission you have in every Infiniti that's 5-speed. An important fact to note is that the transmission control module (TCM) and the park/neutral position (PNP) switch are integral parts of the valve body inside the transmission of the RE5R05A. That's not the case for the RE4R01A. Grafting the TCM and the PNP switch into your car system would certainly involve electrical issues. Maybe the Ladipo guys have found a way around it. The decision is yours.

Thanks for the insight, boss. Those terms were as used by the mechanics. They have replaced it with the RE4R01A tranny, but I think the vehicle is not as fast as it used to be again.
Aside speed, is there any other implication of the replacement?
