1. Corruption - a money making virus which gives its host body an impeccable ability to consume financial and other related resources meant for the public. The Nigerian variant yet has no cure and is already an epidemic. 2. Democracy - government of some people, by some people, and for some people 3. Devil – the criminal’s best counsel, has one of the large workshops in the country and is one of the highest employers of labor. 4. First lady - a romantic political post saddled with the responsibility of dressing gorgeously, organizing phantom pet projects, and testing the anger limits of social critics. 5. God – someone Nigerians praise when happy, lament to when sad, blame when confused, and use when in need of an excuse. 6. Graduate job - an employment offer for the best dummies; they are now expected to learn in 6 months what they weren’t taught in 5 years. 7. Nigeria - one of the seven wonders of the 20th century. It is a Babel of ethnic groups, languages, aspiration and religion. 8. Pipeline – It is a vessel used by politicians to store promises made to the public. Ordinarily it is a network of pipes used to transport petroleum products and most times a victim of vandalisation. Example: The plan to build a pipeline from Lagos to Abuja is in the pipeline. 9. Politician - a psyche-artist who makes a living by manipulating public opinion. Sometimes He/she writes award winning prose called manifestos and holds intellectual circuses called campaigns and when successful undergoes a four year reality show sponsored by the masses 10. President - a person voted by Nigerians to be their problem in chief. They are usually rechristened by the public with creative and colloquial aliases which typifies their leadership style. They are never appreciated while in office. 11. Vision 202X - a mobile goal post used by political leaders to delay delivery of dividends of good governance under the vice of time. The vision is usually replete with ambitious promises and the year of its achievement most times are set several years from the present. Example: Vision 2020. more to come by Peinstein |
Good article from Segun Adeniyi. Unfortunately threads like this might not generate much interest since it is devoid of what normally generates debates on Nairaland - tribalism. |
![]() HNosegbe: But the topic says Umuahia and Owerri.Yeah T.A Orji switched to APC last night, everything was done online. ![]() On a serious note the article mentioned Umuahia and Owerri as the latest locations. Any development is a good development irrespective of our socio-political affiliation. |
Read a lot about it, love it |
Almost 10hrs in the last one week |
PrettyRita: Let's not forget that a United Nation body recently gave the same Jonathan award for reducing poverty and hunger. That MDG has also rated him high. Why are people not making reference to these. They associate themselves rather with negative reports cos they serve their interest. Not too good for people that are in dire need of development.Maybe it is the opposition forces at work My take is, as a leader be ready to take blames and credits and this is not limited to Jonathan. It is lame blaming ASUU strikes on APC |
I gues African Development bank was also sponsored by APC, while Amnesty International report was sponsored by PDP. I can't remember the time, but it has been quite long when I first read a foreign article where it asserted african leaders are always quick to blame the opposition for their failures. What surprises me is how this theory plays itself out all around african politics. If this is your own form of 'thinking outside the box', then you need to think deeper. |
Nice piece. However, chess offers you a lot more than total annihilation You can win or lose You can offer draw or decide to resign honorably In war you either win or lose; winning or losing doesn't depend on who is right or wrong. Man's best is used for man's worst, there is no draw in war once the battle lines are drawn. No victor, no vanquish is a war myth, the winner knows who won. You never get to resign honorably, retreat is an admittance of sore defeat Let's play chess, leave war for blood thirsy. |
I have experienced it, but over time I have learnt how to avoid it because I was able to know what caused it 1. When I sleep late into the night having worked and stressed myself mentally and physically I experienced it, especially when I also had to set an alarm to wake up in few hours time. As a result I try not to drain my mental or physical strength before I sleep. Stress seems to be a cause 2 I experienced it at times when I slept with my back on the mattress or mat. This scenario usually takes place when some of the other factors I have listed are combined with sleeping on my back. At times I found it better to change my sleep position. What I do at times during a paralysis is to move the lightest part of my body, mustering much strength to lift just that part of my body usually draws me out of the paralysis. The irony is that it takes mental strength to move just a finger rather than physical strength during a paralysis. 3 strangely but true, I experienced paralysis when I had engaged myself in checking websites, or read materials which were occultic. For this reason I usually mind the kind of websites or information in general I assimilate, such materials seem to pollute one psychologically. In such cases, saying a word of prayer with assurance in God's word has been the surest way out. For me sleep paralysis has no one cap fits it all, there is yet no silver bullet. Just try to know yourself and why it is happening to you, with time you will find a way out |

It appears the word "Intellectual" has taken a new meaning. I prefer the old meaning though, and Wole Soyinka epitomizes the adjective |
I can relate with most of these amendments and they are necessary. However, making laws isnt the end of a problem, it is just a means to an end. Good start |
Sincere 9gerian: Good we now know the Lagos state GDP in relation to the national GDP. But can we also know the contribution of Lagos state to national CORRUPTION? It will be good to also break down CORRUPTION on a state-by-state basis. The Lagos State Govt should help us calculate its CONTRIBUTION to corruption in Nigeria.maybe you should create a thread for that while we keep discussing on this thread. I like the breakdown as it puts things into perspective. What the government needs to do now is to enhance the salient sectors that define lagos' economy, bottlenecks notable in such sectors should be removed so that investors can focus on their business. For example since transport contributes so much, a lot needs to be done to improve roads and infrastructure for other existing forms of transport. |
emiye: Your long epistle lacks common sense. |
P.Stacks:There have been series of inter-tribal wars in Nigeria We can Abolish Tribes Yes we can.. There have been series of wars based on boundary disputes and land We can Abolish lands/boundaries Yes we can.. There have been wars fought out of friction due to difference in political idealogies We can Abolish political ideologies Yes we can.. we can go on and on and on. You dont throw away the baby and the dirty water, sure religion has brought its many problems but so have men and women, and we dont have any intention of abolishing humanity. we are the problem with religion, religion aint our problem |
Dont take it lightly guys, we just opened pandora's box by releasing this dude. Anything is possible in Nigeria |
measuring the future based on happenings in the last 50 years could be quite ambitious. Religion like culture is far stronger than what we think. Religion might be modified but it wouldnt go extinct globally |
ngozievergreen: But, Odumchi, how did u come about this title? That is the issue with Nigerians o. we dont check the size of our neighbors' farm, yet we yell ours is the largest. Not that his assertion couldnt be true, but Odumchi has only told us the Igbo side of Nigerian women. |
"I parades ? ". |
Sound opinion from Atiku, but OP ur title portrays him as someone initially hiding from the conversation ![]() |
stebell: Ways t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ resolve de crisis in PH city. (1). Recall de Obio/Akpor Chairman and his councillors cos some sections of de rules and order of de house of Assembly were not followed. (2). Acknowledge and recognise de PDP in de state led by Felix Obuah, cos yu too came in as Gov thro de court. Yu were not elected. τ̲̅ђe supreme court brought yu in as Gov in 2007. (3) recognise Evans Bipi as de new speaker of de house of Assembly. After doing de above, then call Pro n Anti Amaechi lawmakers and ♍åƙε̲̣̣̣̥ them settle immediately. I believe wen yu do d̶̲̥̅̊α̇̇̇̊τ̲̣̣̥ , then de kind of peace yu hv in ÿøu̶̲̥̅̊я 1st term will be available t̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊ yu again. Long live Rivers State. Long live #Team Fresh Air#. Long live Naija. You mean he should accept that Kangaroo elected speaker? I think we need to revise our mathematics curriculum sir. Sure it is to the good of all for Amaechi to give and take to ensure peace in Rivers, but not by legalising illegality. |
You are right Ikengawo, I at least expected the president's and governors first ladies would take the campaign for the ChildNotBride seriously. Maybe I haven't been listening but these are issues I expect them to take seriously. |
chidindufrank: Scrap NYSC ASAPWhat about ALUU, Rivers state assembly recent violence, and other social/youth vices. This isn't about NYSC, it is about the little regard we have for human lives. RIP to the dead. |
pro01: Yet it had to make front page that Patience Jonathan purportedly "breached protocol". . . .so that two-faced characters like you and your fellow oily hypocrites would gleefully abuse the woman. Now, when confronted with clear evidence that it is not unusual for a president's spouse to disembark from a plane first, you are deceitfully trying to exonerate Turai, and talking about how two "wrongs" supposedly don't make a right. Was it also "wrong" for Michelle Obama to disembark from Airforce One (and greet bystanders/dignitaries) before her husband? Some of you beasts deserve to be buried alive, including the biased, bribed, and jaundiced moderators that put some rubbish on the front page. Are you this insecure? You mean you can now tell people's ethnicity through a nairaland handle. You even called me a beast for asking OP information on presidential protocol? You are too emotional to be rational. not everyone comes to nairaland to start ethnic and political fights. |
If you have good information on official presidential protocol kindly share it, that would seem more logical. YarAdua was not the global epitome of presidential protocol and doesn't justify Goodluck's approach. Comparing two wrong people doesn't make any of them right. |
I can see you have created a truth for yourself and that bee wouldn't leave your bonnet soon. Enjoy. ![]() |
Virick: Factually, i cannot say i am completely informed about Hitler. BUT!, what is the premise of ur assumption where his 'evilness' is concerned, if i may ask?Read about the holocaust and how about 6 million jews and millions of other nationalities were killed during Hitler's rule."Evil" might be an understatement |
akpomeme: Can you open your mind and answer the simple question... Defend Patience for what? I am questioning the morality behind Soyinka referring to the office of the first lady as a mere domestic appendage. It can be any other woman tomorrow. Are you the first lady's nairaland publicist, all your recent threads have been mostly about Soyinka and Patience directly and indirectly. It's getting boring bro, you are getting predictable. |
