There’s nothing that can justify the nonsense she did. Desecrating the flag of your country. She may get away with it in nigeria but I know people kill for their flags in most other countries.

If anyone wants to destroy her career, it’s just a matter of submitting the picture to whatever agency she signs up with either now or in the future. Even if no one submits the picture, the agency can stumble on it and they’d definitely dismiss her or trash her contract. They will dismiss her without thinking twice.

It’s only in nigeria that we allow all sorts. Most countries don’t take likely to such behavior.

If the abusive social media publication was indeed derogatory, then the school reserves the right to act. A University is not just a place for learning and reading books. It is also a place for moulding character.

Thus, a student must be fit in learning and in character to qualify for the award of a degree. Democracy is not a recipe for social media madness.

However, in determining the fate of such a student and the punishment thereof, the student must be accorded the right to a fair hearing.

If the school breached the right to a fair hearing, whether expressly or impliedly, then whatever punishment or sanctions imposed on the student is null, void and of no effect. After all, God gave Adam the right to defend himself and his wife before imposing sanctions on them.

For the umpteenth time, let me admonish us to be careful of what we post on social media. We have a fundamental right to criticize public servants, but we do not have the right to dishonour or use derogatory words on them in their official capacity.
