PREMIER LEAGUE DERBY COUNTY The former Blues midfielder leaves Derby County after one year in charge to succeed Maurizio Sarri in the dugout at Stamford Bridge Frank Lampard has been confirmed as the new Chelsea manager, returning to the club where he became a legend as a player. The Blues agreed a deal with Derby County worth £4 million to cover the final two years of Lampard's contract at Pride Park after a week's worth of talks with the 41-year-old. He has signed a three-year deal upon his return to Stamford Bridge to succeed Maurizio Sarri, who departed the club after a single season in charge to take over at Juventus. Afcon 2019: Nigeria against Cameroon is always a war - Mutiu Adepoju Lampard spent 13 years as a player in west London, scoring 211 goals in 649 games to become Chelsea's all-time top goalscorer. He won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, four FA Cups, two League Cups and the Europa League while also finishing second to Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldinho in 2005. It is understood that Lampard will bring staff from Derby with him, with ex-Blues midfielder Jody Morris expected to join as his assistant manager after working with him at the Rams. Former Blues coach Chris Jones will also return, while head of performance analysis Steve Rands is believed to be another of the six to eight backroom staff that have spoken to the west London side. Chelsea's Development Squad manager, Joe Edwards, will also be promoted in line with Lampard's arrival, with the highly-rated young coach boasting a close relationship with Morris from his time in the academy. Over to you, boss! #WelcomeHomeFrank pic.twitter.com/vPGpCUSsMX — Chelsea FC (@ChelseaFC) July 4, 2019 Lampard spoke of his delight at re-joining the club where he is regarded as a legend upon the announcement, saying: "I am immensely proud to be returning to Chelsea as head coach. "Everyone knows my love for this club and the history we have shared, however, my sole focus is on the job in hand and preparing for the season ahead. "I am here to work hard, bring further success to the club and I cannot wait to get started." Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia added on the club's official website : "It gives us great pleasure to welcome Frank back to Chelsea as head coach. "Frank possesses fantastic knowledge and understanding of the club and, last season, he demonstrated he is one of the most talented young coaches in the game. "After 13 years with us as a player, where he became a club legend and our record goalscorer, we believe this is the perfect time for him to return and are delighted he has done so. "We will do everything we can to ensure he has all the support required to be a huge success." Lampard will now lead Chelsea into seven pre-season matches in Dublin, Japan, Germany and Austria before opening the season against Manchester United at Old Trafford on August 11. He will not, though, be able to request new signings due to a two-window transfer ban imposed by FIFA. The arrival of Christian Pulisic, whose move from Borussia Dortmund was completed in January, will help ease the load on Lampard's squad while Mateo Kovacic has seen his loan move from Real Madrid turned into a permanent deal. https://www.goal.com/en-ng/news/lampard-confirmed-as-new-chelsea-manager-on-three-year-deal/159rqp4e9o2261ijn3znfxtcsu |

The Curious Case Of Victor Moses And Tiemoue Bakayoko. Victor Moses and Tiemoue Bakayoko spent last season on loan away from Stamford Bridge, and one could wonder whether the duo will be at the club next season or will move on loan deals or permanent deals away from the club. Moses joined Chelsea in 2012, and was an important first team player that year, and he played a key role as Chelsea went on to win the Europa League. For the next three years, Moses was out on loan as he played for Liverpool, Stoke City and West Ham for the next three seasons. Surprisingly, Moses was a key player for Chelsea under Antonio Conte for two seasons as he held the right wing-back position, and was one of the best players in the Premier League as Chelsea won the league in Conte’s first season. However, Moses failed to make the team under Maurizio Sarri as the Italian lined the team in a 4-3-3 position, and the competition was too much for Moses to break into the team, as he’s found himself behind Eden Hazard, Pedro and Willian in the pecking order. After finding it hard to break into Sarri’s side, Moses left for Fenerbahce on an 18-month loan deal. Since teaming up with the Turkish Super Lig side, the 28-year-old winger scored three goals in 15 appearances. Despite relishing his time with the Yellow Canaries, the Chelsea loanee announced that he won’t be playing for the Turkish side next season. “I had a very enjoyable experience, but I won’t be here next season,” Moses was quoted by Football Italia. “I am leaving Fenerbahce. I want a new adventure in my career.” Moses is being linked with Inter Milan as former Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is keen on reuniting with his former wing-back. For Tiemoue Bakayoko, he spent last season on loan with AC Milan, and his loan spell with AC Milan was one of downwards, upwards and then downwards again. Bakayoko struggled at first to do well at Milan and his performances were so poor that AC Milan boss Gennaro Gattuso was frustrated with him and wanted to return him back to Chelsea. Fortunately, Bakayoko’s performance improved afterwards and Milan decided to keep him. There were even talks of Milan buying Bakayoko but he fell out with his manager towards the end of the season, and Milan decided that he returned back to Chelsea. For Chelsea fans, they don’t really have a good memory about Bakayoko as he struggled in his first season at the club after a £40m move from Monaco. Bakayoko was one of the stars of that Monaco side that had the likes of Kylian Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Fabian, Mendy and a host of stars that won the French league and reached the semi-final of the Champions League. If Bakayoko returns to his form he showed at Monaco and his hay days at AC Milan, he could be like a new signing for Chelsea this summer. The Frenchman struggled with the intensity of the Premier League in his first year, but one could wonder whether he would meet up to standard next season. The case around Bakayoko is very curious as no one knows the kind of player he’d be next season, but if the 25-year-old can play to his potential, Chelsea will have a gem that could be like a new signing next season. So what do you think? |
