BREAKING: Nigeria's headline inflation rises to 13.7 in April, latest @nigerianstat report shows @channelstv
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2016-05-16/nigeria-inflation-quickens-to-highest-pace-in-almost-six-years

Nigerian inflation accelerated for a sixth consecutive month in April and at the highest pace since August 2010, after an increase in gasoline and electricity prices in Africa’s largest economy.

The inflation rate rose to 13.7 percent from 12.8 percent the month before, the Abuja-based National Bureau of Statistics said in an e-mailed statement, the same median estimate of 14 economists surveyed by Bloomberg. Prices rose 1.6 percent in the month.

Rising fuel and electricity prices “were the largest contributors,” the statistics agency said on Monday. “These items as well as other imported items continued to have ripple effects across many divisions.” Food inflation rose to an annualized 13.2 percent from 12.7 percent in March.

Dubai Banks order Closure of Nigerians Bank Account
Oga hope you're watching your back o
All legal Nigerians living and working in Dubai are not affected except students.

Those mainly affected are politicians and others who launder money to dubai under the pretext of paying children school fees,

So students are affected too.

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/05/15/oil-prices-rise-on-nigeria-venezuela-disruptions.html

Oil prices edged up in early trading on Monday as output falls in Nigeria and worries about political instability in Venezuela tightened the market, although rising OPEC output and a stronger dollar capped gains.

International Brent crude futures were trading at $48.11 per barrel at 0148 GMT, up 28 cents, or 0.6 percent, from their last settlement.

U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude futures were up 25 cents, or 0.5 percent, at $46.46 a barrel.

In Nigeria, oil major Exxon Mobil suspended exports from the country's biggest crude stream, Qua Iboe, and other producers like Royal Dutch Shell and Chevron have also suffered disruptions following acts of sabotage, cutting output to its lowest in decades of around 1.65 million barrels per day (bpd).

The sharp depreciation of the naira in the parallel market triggered by the deregulation of petrol importation continued yesterday, with the naira depreciating to N370 per dollar. The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA on Wednesday said that, with the deregulation of petrol importation, importers will henceforth be permitted to source for their foreign exchange requirements from secondary sources. smiley smiley smiley

The fact remains that with the gradual rebound in the price of crude oil in the international market and the weak economy of the country, Nigerians are yet to see the end to the hike in the price of PMS, as Nigerians should be prepared to pay between N250 and N300 for a litre of the commodity.

Oil slips as dollar strengthens but traders eye Nigerian outages
http://mobile.reuters.com/article/idUSKCN0Y4024

Oil prices slipped on Friday, ending a three-day rally, as a strong dollar weighed and investors cashed in on recent gains, but losses were cushioned by outages in Nigeria that have slashed output to the lowest in over two decades.

Nigeria's naira extended its losses against the greenback on Friday amid a jump in demand for dollars by oil importers and speculation of central bank moves to make the exchange rate more flexible, traders said.
The local currency slipped to 345 to the dollar on the parallel market in early trade, down 1.2 percent compared with the previous day's closed.
"More speculators are taking a position in the market, causing dollar scarcity and fall in the value of the local currency," said Aminu Gwadabe, head of the bureaux de change operators association.

On Wednesday, the Nigerian government said fuel importers were allowed from how on to get dollars from the parallel market to help ease acute shortages - likely to result in increased demand for dollars, and more pressure on the naira, as importers increased their orders. smiley

Nigeria is losing over N5.4 billion per day due to loss of over 600,000 barrels per day of crude oil production due to militant attacks on oil and gas infrastructures.

“Apart from the immediate cost of the assets and the production losses to operators, it has the capacity to lower the overall investment attractiveness of the country. Something Nigeria doesn’t need at this point,” said Chijioke Mama, energy research analyst

The Nigerian naira suffered a setback on Thursday, crashing to N345 against the dollar, following the federal government’s decision to liberalise sales of petrol.
The naira also exchanged at 475 to pounds less than 24 hours after the announcement was made by Ibe Kachikwu, minister of state for petroleum.
