Car TalkRe: Why Do Nigerians Avoid Diesel Cars When Buying A Vehicle? by peterjero(m): 8:10pm On Sep 22, 2013
Good day all , I wanna say a big thank you to the op: this has been an argument I've been having with all my uncle because I come from a car enthusiast family but I think I beat them all because of book and magazines I've read about car(from-suspensions,carburettion system, mechatronic et al) I respect Siena, ikenna, cooldun etal they've further improved and inspire me and also making my dreaM of owning the first car restoration/pimping garage in Nigeria still be a reality. I stand to be corrected but I support nigerian on their stand for petrol over diesel reasons:
1: 85% of nigerians buy used cars and since we buy used cars d diesel variant available for such cars are no go area because of emissions, cold start issues, poor acceleration and co. For me I can drive any car because I know much about cars I service all cars I use and do minor repair because I know about cars , but what about others.
2: I'm a team Toyota, VW and MB. Why nigerians pick is simple, I want to end this talk on why people like toyota to others today by giving the best reason possible- of all 3 cars I love MB win my heart the most but that hasn't stop me from giving my respect for toyota. Toyota make cars knowing fully well man isn't a perfect being and are prone to mistakes so ðêý make dis cars easy and understandable to a lay man to understand(that doesn't mean they don't make luxury) after all they are the largest car maker in the world. Since the are the most popular brand in nigeria their diesel variants are noisy hence the shift to the petrol variant.
3: Diesel in Nigeria stinks and put permanent stains in surfaces and metals. So we are just comfortable with it in our generators and trucks and not cars we use everyday.
4: Diesel price isn't regulated in nigeria so we must always put our environment in consideration, the govt don't consider her citizens so we help ourselves so we go for the regulated petrol.
Summary Oga Siena , Ikenna, cooldun, etc I'm like you people who have studied cars I can maintain diesel, petrol cars well to even last 30yrs that's me because I love cars . I REST MY CASE

Car TalkRe: Honda Ball Joints And Upper Arms Problem by peterjero(m): 8:29pm On Sep 20, 2013
IdaraCHODB: Buy OEM replacement parts for your Honda and you won't have a problem.

If you buy chinese look-alikes which have flooded the Nigerian market, because Honda is extremely popular, then that is when you have that problem.

The difference in price between an original and a look-alike can be pretty large but the price is peace of mind which money cannot buy

Problem not peculiar to Honda but honestly, I would not bet my life on chinese axles or ball joints or upper arms.

And personally I intend to replaced all my axles and arms and shafts at somewhere between 100,000 miles and 150,000 miles with new OEM specs parts for the sake of my peace of mind
i dont agree with you because it doesnt happen to toyota cars so why only honda and again toyota is very popular which make chinese part very popular too so why dont we get d same issues with then. honda front tyres keep pulling off you see them on d highway, i guess its only the Pilot that isnt affected

its a simple management gimmick, afterall apple said categorically said the time for plastic on iphone is not close only to see the iphone 5c 3months later. Blackberry will want to safeguard company secret first to make the consumers around d globe react to see whether their legendary app will be accepted or not. So, starting with a small(samsung)

Mine is equally 1989 Toyota Camry with 67,000 km when bought almost 3 years ago,and 172,749 km as at this moment ....very strong and good ...it has a power steering oil leakage since last year but 4months ago I met my mechanic and has fix it ,now the oil is still at the top and I don't use to refill every week as I always did before. The only problem I have now is some strange noise from the steering while turning on the local street but perfect and noiseless on main and express roads...have not work on d engine before but have worked on the AC
You bought it at 172,749km how come its 67000km or does ur car count backWards or what? As for the steering its typical for the car because of the age.
Car TalkRe: Why Do German And American Cars Have Low Resale Values? by peterjero(m): 12:24am On Sep 13, 2013
you are correct German cars are serious problems when they age , i have a 24yr old camry with a/c still steaming yet i haven't topped the gas once , no smoke from the exhaust. A lot of nigerians mistake speed and handling for reliability and durability. i put d key and start once all buttons still work. though i like german cars for their power and aesthetics but japs will always win thats y their cars are found everywhere in the world.

Car TalkRe: Why Are Nigerians Scared Of VOLVO by peterjero(m): 8:14pm On Sep 07, 2013
Volvo Used to be strong, but as the year went by people started looking for fueL efficient and user-friendly cars , people weren't complaining and showing statistics of petrol pump price across opec countries, rather they were innovating and before the European and American Cars could catch up the Japs have gone far. I've noticed Nlanders always complain of jap mobiles . Toyotas and Hondas rule the world . Toyota sell more the GM or FORD in their home market. Is this not because they make good cars?
Volvo are good but our environment don't favour them , so go for what favOurs you environment, unless you are rich. As for me I love TOYOTAS they make the best cars, people. Don't even know toyotas that's why they complain(they make the highest variety of brands you can choose from) check out the Toyota Century and respect them.

Car TalkRe: Fastest Speed You Have Ever Driven: Car, Place, Time? by peterjero(m): 12:27pm On Aug 31, 2013
Siena: Any proof bro? Or just mere assumption? And please, don't mention Youtube.

As for the GTR, you're comparing a 2012 car with one that was first produced in 2002. I would use a current Audi model. The current Audi RS3 which is based upon a humble Audi A3 is quicker than the GTR, despite having less power. Audi have quoted 4.9 for the 0-62 mph dash, but so far, those figures are conservative. Because times of 3.9 - 4.2 seconds have been achieved by Topgear, Driven, 5th Gear and a whole bunch of motoring magazines.

Besides the Nissan GTR, Mitsubishi Evo, Older Supra there aren't any seriously quick Japmobiles, definitely none in the Superminin, medium to large family sedan range. Unlike Audi who produce seriously fast cars, from the smallest hatch to the full-size family sedan, then of course the Supercars - Audi R8, which I wouldn't class as slow.

Gosh - this thread has changed direction.
NISSAN GTR is faster than any production BMW even the M5, look for any online to know what I'm talking about.

german007: "Most German cars will exceed 500,000 miles"

Well said sienna. This is something Iv been preaching and laying emphasis on. Have I ever seen a toyota reach 220k miles?.Dont think so.

I have driven litterally every series of bmw, even back to the 1995 BMW 850CSi coupe (which perhaps a lot of people dont know of), but it was of the most powerful bmw's ever made.

I drove a Le mans blue bmw x5 4.6 for two years, Yes you heard right sienna"BMW X5 4.6 ", lol . A huge gas guzzler I must say, but was a pleasurable driving experience. Gave me the best euphoric and exciting feeling ever. Mileage reached 220k miles when I sold it off and it still drove like brand new.
My toyota camry (1989)is 293412km as at today , toyota is largest car company today isn't by design but their quality speaks volume of their demand. I drove bmw for two years and was shouting this car is awesome until I started the toyota thing and my views changed about automobiles completely. Toyota is a utility car that get the job done tell me any house that uses cars that don't know toyotas are every where from buses, to trucks , sedans, suvs, crossovers you name it and they are all reliable where is bmw in d picture. They are good to drive but its that all.

lagcity: 1987 Toyota Camry. mehn that car strong die. when i dey use that car, even BMW go dey stuggle to pass me for I-495. there was a time that i went for oil change and the mechanic looked at me shockingly and said "there's no freaking oil in this thing grin grin." if it were another car, the engine would have packed up long ago.
But i am not totally surprised at the toyota's performance becos i learnt that the japanese were on their A game during the 80s and that American carmakers dismantled toyota cars to find out the secret of the japanese. that's how reliable and strong those japanese cars were back then, i don't know about now since things have gone electrical and mechanics are nolstagic about the old days.
That's the same car I own but mine is 1989 I think its the best toyota ever made, I've used mine for 9 years and I've added 202,000km on it . I won't sell that car for 3m very reliable and easy to fix.

Car TalkRe: What does the Mileage On Your Car Read.??? by peterjero(m): 12:47pm On Aug 23, 2013
Siena: You haven't replaced your spark plugs in 11 years? You've used them for 202,000 kms (126,000 miles)? Please don't take this the wrong way, but that's plain daft.

Spark plugs should be replaced annually, or every 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Longlife or platinum plugs will be fine for 20,000 miles, but 126,000? Plugs are service items, unless you're saying your car hasn't been serviced in all that time...

...Or I've read your post wrong.

As per your leaking power steering fluid, I would the find the source of the leak, and get it fixed. That's a poor way to run a car, just because it still drives doesn't mean all's well. And oil spraying onto a red hot exhaust manifold WILL cause an engine fire.
Thanks for your observation but
1. I bought a new power steering box all to no avail, it didn't stop the leak. I serviced it no way.
2. I bought plugs for it and it misfired so I put the old ones back, surprisingly I placed an order for thru my brother in Germany to get a platinum plugs for me.
3. I do routine service every 3000km because of its age and I use TOTAL 5000 oil.
Please you need to see my car a/c still steams , though I rarely use d a/c. I won't sell that car for 3m and its the truth, lovely ride

Car TalkRe: Murano/mdx Touring by peterjero(m): 12:52am On Aug 23, 2013
The murano is better for 3 reasons
1. The suspension of the MDX is as weak as those found on honda cars, not good for nigerian roads.
2. The engine is efficient but complicated making our mechanic goofing with its repairs. My uncles MDX 2005 knocked engine twice.
3. The gearbox/transmission is not good at all.
I will prefer you go for the murano or better still rav4 or mercedes ml they are more rugged and suit our terrain and mechanic.
Don't buy cars because they are flashy and others Are buying them please.

Superbrain: I wonder what the hell is wrong with MTN Nigeria angry angry. BIS has been unavailable for over twelve (12) hours and yet MTN has not deemed it fit to send an apology to subscribers on why the service is down or when it would be fixed. huh

All the customer care agents keep saying is "We apologize...bla bla...kindly perform a hard reset and...bla bla bla". Hey, that is stale news! We are sick and tired of apologies.

Even when the service is back up, one would still not get any compensation for the time lost.

This is complete fraud angry. It's high-time we subscribers start getting value for paid services.

MODs, please move to front page. I need this message to get out to them. We've had enough of this shit!

MTN Nigeria, fix your service issues and show some genuine concern for your customers OR lose them. angry angry angry

Seriously considering legal action....
the services have been restored and they extended my BIS with 3days and with apologies! Bros no vex for wetin i wan talk o , MTN is still d best in all ramification, if na lie wetin we dey use our other sims do maybe calls or data but not both.
